I could listen to him for hours. Irish accents and general manners of speaking are incredibly pleasing to the ear. I'd love to hear him read Joyce aloud.
The major difference in the Bedrock planes is the ability to adjust the frog forward or backward without having to remove the iron, chip breaker and lever cap which you can't do on the Bailey pattern planes.
highly recommend getting paste wax to coat your planes with helps with slowing the rust down a lot. I had 3 of mine that I treat with paste wax get rained on and left for a week and only had tiny spots of rust on them.
Thank you lad for sharing your woodworking knowledge. I truly appreciate your lectures. The information presented is unambiguous and extremely practical. Kudos! 🧐🤔👊👍🙏
I don't know much about all of the stones out there in the world but I have had one India stone for 10 years and used them 10 years previous. I've sharpened everything in the house and garage, lapped machine surfaces and have a 13 year old that has been sharpening since he was 7. I haven't had to lap any of that type yet.
I love this video. You're very humble and easy to listen to. Those handles are gorgeous. The Stanley Sweetheart decal on that tote is a huge bonus. I had a No 5 that had that on it still. I just picked up a No 3 that has about half of the decal. Oh, and you don't have to remove the pins on the 605 frog to adjust it. You loosen the screws in the back and it should allow the frog to slide forward or back. Keep up the great work! I've watched all of your shorts and now working on your videos. ☺️👍
May I ask what Grid of sandpaper you're using to restore the soles and the sides? I've one or two Metal Planes from my late father, I wouldn't wanna ruin them by going too rough on the surfaces😊
I can’t explain why I love watching this guy fix up hand planes so much, but I don’t care. The other stuff is cool, too, it’s just that I’d have expected to have been done with the plane thing, specifically 🤷
Hey Eoin, have you tried using Renaissance Wax on the steel of your plane? It's a crystalline wax and should cut down on your planes getting Rusty? You can get it quite cheap online! I study Luthiery in Glasgow and I find your work really interesting! Love your channel.

I was watching The Shawshank Redemption and noticed at the end Andy Dufresne was using what looked like a hand plane on a boat he was fixing up. I'm wondering what kind.
I've decided to restore my grandads old stanley Bailey no.5 1/2 plane and there's a couple of small pits on the base. Giw deep is too deep to sand flat?
I found my grandpa’s Stanley number 40 and it doesn’t have a frog you just need the thing that goes in front of the blade not the trip breaker but something else I don’t know what it’s called and then you need a blade I have the other part I just can’t find a blade for it but I can’t afford it There’s no way to attach a chip breaker last time I checked the blade didn’t know it was so I was young and I just started splitting wood with it.
hey lad, really appreciate you and your stuff a whole lot, and I know you had no ill intentions but please, don't say stuff like "I'm a bit OCD" when referring to cleanliness or messes. Lots of people struggle massively with this disorder and its unfortunately predominantly not only or just the "funny little organising compulsion" but also horrible intrusive thoughts and anxiety among other severe symptoms. Sadly, the condition's stereotype is usually the only thing people think of, and sayings like "everyone's a bit OCD" doesn't help it. This is not supposed to be an attack to you personally but rather a little heads up. Thank you!
Lovely video as always lad. Just don't forget to zip up your fly when you go on TV :'D
Lol I was going to say the same thing. On the other hand a nice breeze down there can be very soothing
Love how WD40 can do anything. You've inspired me to go and learn wood working with hand tools only, thanks.
It doesn't do everything.
@@nexusofice9135 No but its quite surprising how much it helps sometimes.
WD40 can degrade some plastics and rubbers. So beware in using for a one stop solution
@@peep3298 exactly. The formula is designed for "Water Displacement" hence "WD"
It can fix a marriage just oil the top of the stairs and let it do the work for you🤣🤣

No idea what any of this means but yeah 👍🏻
The name comes from the continuous support between the frog and the sole
I just recently finished restoring a relatives no. 4 and no. 5 planes. Your videos inspired me to do so, thanks Eoin!

A great way to start off 2023 - looking forward to seeing more.

Excellent content! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this! I hope your new year is going well!
Beautiful work!
I was just using my Bailey #5 this evening. Battle worn but brilliant.
Great restoration lad!
Happy new year, Eoin! Good to see you!

Ahh great video super satisfying
such great content man keep it up
being someone with no work working background in my family, this kinda makes me want wood working as a hobby
You’ve done some great tool videos but you have missed the 2 most important things in any workshop. What’s your Tea and music setup?

I can’t wait to be old enough and have enough space and have enough money and a whole host of other things to be able to do this myself

Do you have any suggestions for a diamond stone or sharpening kit?

I have a 605 1/2 Bedrock that I just inherited. Learning about my planes. What are your opinions on this size?
Best size and the 5 1/2 Bedrock is much more rare than the 5 .
How much would you charge to refurbish an old wooden level?
WD 40
