    The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and semiconductor chip shortages have wreaked havoc on the automotive industry. Car buying is more challenging than ever as supply dwindles and prices soar. Things are so out of whack, in fact, that in many cases, used cars now cost more than their new counterparts. That brings us to Toyota.
    One car manufacturer that has seen many of its used car prices soar past the MSRP for new vehicles is Toyota. In fact, five of the top 15 cars whose used prices are currently higher than their new prices are Toyotas, according to Nexstar.

    You are absolutely correct.
    I bought a new 2021 forerunner in November 2020. Drove it for a year and sold back to the same dealer I bought it from for $3000 more than I paid for it.
    Just sold my 2022 GR 86 with 2000 miles on it for 35,000 and found a brand new one, exact same car only different color for $32,000.
    I have seven new cars on order😀

    Just got into a new RAV4 Hybrid instead of buying the one I had off lease. The dealer actually bought out the lease and gave me a substantial credit on the new car so they could turn it around and sell it used at a profit. I ended up getting the new car slightly below MSRP with other incentives thrown in. Definitely agree you should buy new in this market.

    Here is the process I went through to get a new Tacoma. Put a 1k deposit down at a high volume dealer April 26 2022. Sales lady called me in early June and I approved the allocated truck she found. My Tacoma was built July 26th and I took delivery September 23. Worth the wait? Hell yes!

    Hi, I have been working on vehicles since about 1962 and owned an automotive air conditioning and radiator repair shop from 1973 to 2002. I drive a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L 4WD extended cab truck with 105,000 miles and my wife drives a 2015 Toyota Camry with 44,000 miles. I was ready to buy a new truck, even moved money for the purchase but the local GM dealers didn't have a new truck like mine because of computer chip shortage. So I decided to wait and now after hearing about car dealers charging over MSRP, I will wait until the market stabilizes. .

    And don't forget the mandatory "accessory" add-ons if you buy new in the Southeast Toyota Dealer network - those pesky port add-ons that get added to the Mulroney. That is before the extra ADM they've been charging lately. Southeast Toyota dealers have been screwing customers for decades.

    • @AllAboutPurple
      @AllAboutPurple 2 года назад +1

      It’s very predatory, with lots of other brands some of these “add-on” already included in certain trims.

    • @youcanrunnaked
      @youcanrunnaked 2 года назад

      Those are put in at the port in Jacksonville, after the vehicle is manufactured. If you are buying an incoming unit, the dealership can specify what gets put on. They are not mandatory. The trick is finding a dealer that has something coming in that you want, and will order it the way you want. Doral Toyota did that for us. They also ignored the $10,000 “market adjustment” SET put on a supplemental Munroney when our Tacoma came in.

    I understand the advice. Here’s the problem this could change anytime. Apparently the auto loan bubble is bursting and the presumption is that many will walk from their loans/cars and if that happens prices may drop like a rock.
    That said, if I had the money I’d still take a 2019 tundra over the new ones. Gas mileage is beyond horrible but that thing will last forever. The new hybrids will probably be ok but only time will tell.

    Dude. Do you ever go outside and look at a car lot inventory? Don’t know where you live but in a North Texas Toyota show room…non, notta, nothing…so yeah, used cars are sky high if you want another car/truck.

    Toyota has a past reputation for excellent quality control. However, I've heard about recent waste gate issues with the turbos on the V6 mated to the Tundra, which leads to question if the quality is waning a little. With staffing shortages in the USA and other countries, one would expect some defects to come from most vehicles manufactured in 2021 and 2022. Most manufacturers might cut a few corners when demand outweighs supply. Just saying, perhaps customers expect quality short comings with these newer models. I'm not sure I agree it's smarter to buy anything, vehicle or appliance brand new, given the current status of our supply chain. I'm keeping what I have. 2013 Toyota Tundra. Very reliable, and very powerful, time tested 5.7 liter at 382 horse power with 401 lbs of torque. Gas mileage is low, but that's one of the most reliable gasoline engines ever built, and no one could argue to the contrary.

      @@mudpuddle2658 can't be any worse than the pos ecoboost 4 cylinder's that ford uses in the maverick and other vehicles. at least the hyundai's has dual injection and won't have to worry about the valves getting coated in carbon. 10 yr 100k warranty on the engine is better than fords 3/36k mile warranty.

      That is a thought about those turbos. And stop and go switches. I bought a new 2021 Acura crossover from a friend who then wanted a bit larger SUV had 1,800 mi I turn off the stop and go every time I get in. Our Toyota van we still have has 175, 000. Mi. Still runs great. Kid down the street bought one same year 315,000 mi still ran.
