      @@TTM9691 Agreed. Weird though about Duvall/Great Santini. I barely remember that film except that it was overrated. Duvall had some sort of acting 'tic' in it, similar to Pacino's in Scent of a Woman (Whoo-ahh!)...but I can't remember what it was.

      @@DDumbrille I just tried to re-watch "Great Santini" a couple of months ago, hadn't seen it since it came out........I couldn't get through it, I shut it off after a half hour. I don't remember an acting "tic" bothering me, but I might not have made it far enough into the movie to notice.

      In any given year, the nominees are meant to be 'the cream of the crop'. The Oscar ratings did reach a low in 2021, but they were up again this year.

The biggest man in all of this is sylvester stallone: as much as I like him, I can only say... he tries to be the same he used to be in Rocky days, he just isn't... And it's sad.

      Wiizardii I know what you mean, they will never be as good as they were in taxi driver/ raging bull or godfather II/ scarface. But I think that under the direction of a proper director(i.e.Scorsese) and are given the correct roles for their personalities, then they can make one last great movie. I don't think al or bob have had a great role since heat, and a good role since.....im not so sure, but im sure they can.

    Still the greatest single screen performance I've ever seen by De Niro in Raging Bull. Pity for Peter O'Toole though not winning again, the Academy should be embarrassed never ever getting this magnificent actor over the line - but 1981 he didn't stand a chance. Sally Field was a total fox back then, gorgeous woman.

    Deserved, but I can't avoid not feeling a bit sad about John Hurt missing his chance. His performance in The Elephant Man was one for the ages and just as timeless as De Niro's. In my perfect world, both should have been recognized.
