I've seen the channel evolve from advanced level MacBook repairs to NYC real estate hunting and investigating to open sourcing your life to Koi pond equipment. Never fails to keep me entertained and learning.
This is common on industrial pumps. The manufacturer just swaps out impellors and impellor housings to give different pump characteristics but externally the pump looks the same.
Jebao looks to have slightly larger casing diameter than Anjon where motor sits, so maybe the pump motor is a bit stronger on Jebao. You can compare weight of both pumps.
It is funny you got into fish a few years ago and so did I. I keep marine fish and coral though! We use a ton of Jebao stuff and it has a good reputation in the marine world. You are right, the same pump will be sold under 5 different brands. Some of these companies will be American companies as well.
"That's all for today. I hope you learned something." Today I learned to never offer to be Louis's camera operator, while he powers up a water pump in a trash bin. 🤪
Replacing that junk bendy line will increase your available flow volume by 40% all by itself. Pressure being resistance to flow also prematurely burns out motors when trying to sustain max volume through too small of lines. Low stress, easy flow can help even a cheap harbor freight pump last a long time. Or you get lucky with a golden sample. Either way, PVC line will be a worthwhile upgrade. Add: By the by, I have that same APC UPS on my main workstation PC. I've gotten exceptional battery life out of the units they put it those, way past expected cycle life. 👍
I saw the hose kick back come and was giggling the whole time. 😂 In all seriousness they look identical except for the shroud/grate on the new one is flipped upside down. Hopefully it'll last for you bc if it does that's a hell of a deal to get a pump in the same form factor but moves more water. 👍👍
I have a hot air gun, soldering station, macbooks and a similar koi pond. 100% compatible content. Only thing I am missing is a random red pillow in the yard
Hi Louis, glad to see another koi video as a hobbyist myself. Ive been using a periha pump after seeing tons of other hobbyist use them. They seem to be way more power efficient, don’t quit hit the 9000gph mark though.
Louis, I used to sell pool pumps, and whether you had a 1/2 HP or a 3HP pool pump, they were identical in casing. I'm not surprised by the result, but was glad that you didn't get scammed.
The fact that I watched this in it's entirety speaks volumes about your entertainment factor. And yes, buying crap from big box stores or Scamazon is stooped to the max, this much is known.
Keep dry is usually there because normal cardboard starts to tear and breaks if getting wet. Not because of content. For goods actually requiring stauing dry they use plastic lined/infused cardboard and sealed plastic bags for goods.
a 600w load running 24/7 is a decent chunk of money! do you have to run any heating/cooling as well or are the fishies hardy enough to handle seasonal temperature differences?
Want to spend money buying cheap Chinese shit from a monopolistic, garbage online e-tailer? Click here: amzn.to/41LHty2 It is still working two months later, which is incredibly surprising. I gave it so much shit, but the jebao 9000 did do nearly twice the movement of the anjon monsoon 5200, at half the price. my old anjon monsoon 5200 also failed about 1 year in so it's not like those are bulletproof either. i get it, the artesian pro pumps are better, but they're $1000... I could buy 6 of these for the price of one of those, and there's something so pretentious about saying _"i have an AAHHHHHHTEEEEEEEEEEEZION performance PROOO pump."_ I looked into the claim of them being much more efficient with regards to electricity used/water moved, but the power ratings/flow/head pressure seemed almost the same. I'll report back when it dies.
The only experience I have with pumps is the fact that a cheapo chinese plastic water pump we use for irrigation has so far lasted 3x longer than the much more expensive one with a metal housing that shorted itself to death 2 months after warranty had ended because the rubber gasket (I believe that's the term? Not native speaker... Rubber part that gets squeezed together in between two metal parts of the housing to prevent water leaks) became leaky and poured water into the motor. And of course the pump that cooked itself didn't even have a user-intended method to replace the gasket without ruining some of the internals near the motor
Louis you are such a a tech nerd, and I caught that 9 sec comment lol. You sprayed your woman with pond water, yuck. Also why don't we get to see her on your streams, :(
Results are not very surprising. It's basically like with cars, 2 identical looking cars but internally they have different engines, drive trains etc. So yes, they will just feature different pump heads / impellors, motors, etc. and just re-use the housing. Btw. the keep dry on the box is because the cardbox would just collapse if it get's wet, the manual would be unreadable etc. and the moisture would creep down in the copper cable from the plug. But yes, you can submerse the pump safely. Just take the box off first. Cool video though and a really nice fish pond.
To be honest, it looks like maybe 1/3 more water with the second pump. They could have planned to underpower the first motor when they marketed these pumps, then up it to normal for the second version. Not unusual, but still not fair. You could probably replace a voltage regulator or use different coils on the motor of the first one to achieve the same result as the second. Please show us how it looks after you've beautified and rerouted all the wires and hoses. As far as what the first owner did, despite being a plumber, well, down here in Oklahoma (and most everywhere?) mechanics have the worst cars even though they work miracles with customers cars. Same with computer techs, me included LOL. If you' keep your tech stuff in top working order, consider yourself far above many, many of the rest of us! Thanks, Mr. Rossmann, for your vids! Edit - oops I wrote this before watching your last experiment. But it still appeared to me a little more powerful on the waterfall. But then again, I'm drinking vodka.
you know what you should do, open up the pumps and check if they are the same thing or same motors and if it is regulated to whatever voltage to pump whatever amount of water. I think that would be a great video after this one!!
Keep the receipt and box for the warranty claim. If it dies before the warranty ends simply return as defective, get a refund ( gift card is fine, and actually preferred) and go buy a new one with it, as that gives you the same warranty again. I got 7 years out of a cheap kettle that way, even though the actual units only lasted between 9 to 11 months before they went bang. first one was repaired, and died again before the 3 month repair warranty expired, and they simply gave a gift voucher, which gave a new unit, and a valid 1 year warranty on it, which, with a copy, went into the box, along with the loaner kettle. Kettle no 8 lasted 1 year 1 week before it died. Those 7 replacements cost me only $1, as the price went up in year 5, and the original store had closed up the branch. Just had a TV fixed under warranty, as it had a failed backlight, just 4 weeks short of the 3 year warranty expiring. The year after I got it, they had changed to a 1 year warranty, for some reason.
But you can see that the motor canister thing is bigger on the new one. Not saying you're wrong about anything just pointing out that the same factory changed at least that.
Need new sand for old filter - if it hasn't been backwashed in that long, just get a disposable coverall and rubber boots and gloves and a face shield and go at it.
I would suspect that the pump is completely identical and the only difference is the software on the controller inside the motor. You would not get this amount of power out of a mains powered asynchronous motor, this has to be a permanent magnet motor with higher power densitiy and electronics. And by just putting in a different software you get many models.
if you don't keep dry the box breaks, has nothing to do with the content. and the pumps are different, the plastic housing looks the same but you can tell the new one has a bigger motor.
Can I fish in your pond? Also they could be dumping significantly more voltage for only slightly more performance. I've learned from CPU overclocking 50% more powet for 10% more performance is a thing.
every creditable pump (or fan...) manufacturer gives you a pressure/flow and efficiency/power graphs, without those the specifications are meaningless...

Keep dry is to avoid the box to get damage
And to prevent the pump from getting mildew before installation.
It's all about the impeller. That and the motor power determine the pump output. They changed the impeller to get more flow.

Usualy when manufacturers make motors they use one size of case for a range of motors. The power diference comes from the leinght of the stator pack.
Half the price for double the performance not bad. Now just comes down to what type of warranty.
