As a 30 year old I was a little too young to be cognizant of SC back when they were playing late night shows in the 90s. I can finally say I stayed up and watched SC perform live on late night television. What a time to be alive.
It's difficult to overstate how impressive it is that a synth rig that's extremely faithful to the one that was originally built at pretty much the exact same moment that early dial-up internet became a thing retains so much of its original intrigue and mystery.
@@floydhopkins7901yes I have watched vids of this current tour and the challenge is Mike. I appreciate he is no longer drugged out of his mind like he was in the 90s but this version of Soul Coughing is like a coffee house version.
Forever grateful to the Cartoon Network for introducing me to this band! Rolling and Circles were staples on the "Groovies" shorts back in the late 90s / early 00s, bought their "Best Of" album the summer I went to college not realizing they had already broken up, but it's still one of my fav albums of all time.
They introduced my kids to this band. Honestly, the Cartoon Network vid for Rolling ought to be thought of as the _standard_ vid for that song, the folks at CN or hired by CN at that time were devilishly brilliant creatives.
I was a teenager back when this song first hit the airwaves... My first thought? "I've never heard anything like this before!". Such a cool and unique style. Good times great oldies!
Absolutely stunning!!!!! One of my favourite bands of all-time!!!!! They were so incredible at the two San Diego shows at the Belly Up Tavern. Soul Coughing are timeless.
Sooooo incredibly stoked they healed some old wounds and are giving life to their amazing music again! Looking forward to Boston in a couple weeks! 🙏🏻🙌🏻❤
For as much trouble as these guys had with each other, they sound better together than apart. I loved Doughty’s solo stuff, but when he’s with the rest of the band, the sound is unlike anything else. They need to make a real run at this reunion.
@@kaleidoscopesthirdeyevizions Saw them in NYC. Was fantastic man, dream come true for me since I only found out about the band when I was in high school, 10 years after they'd broken up. I do agree, I'd love to see Mike with that same pent-up youthful energy, but their sound is still so incredible. NO ONE can sound even close to Soul Coughing than themselves.
@@jeremyhighhouse6903i can’t tell if you’re joking or not since he has the look now. you could even say it’s rick rubin. if you think he actually is, you’re incorrect. he is sebastian steinberg, the original bassist of the band.
Such a great song. Played the albums 'Irresistible Bliss' and 'El Oso' constantly on repeat when they came out. Amazed to see these guys back together after reading Mike Doughty's brutally honest memoir 'The Book of Drugs' though. Apart from his horrific struggle with addiction during his Soul Coughing days he seemed to have nothing but absolute contempt for his fellow band members and the material they wrote together. Glad to see he appears to have found a path back and reclaimed some love for those old songs. Really hoping to catch them again live if they start touring once more.
The samples were so extravegantly weird and catchy that they had a musical narrative all their own. They were as integral to the music as the lyrics and voice. The band has this old school feel to them. That rhythmn section with that acoustic bass was so chill and vibey at the time. They reminded me of the Digable Planets. I played this cd a lot in the 90's.
Mike's had an impressive solo career over the years with some truly great original works. If you're a fan of Soul Coughing, I'd encourage you to check Mike's solo stuff out too.
Thank you for still existing, I dreamed, enjoyed and learned so much from your talent and listening to you again after so many years is a huge pleasure, you are the most innovative and original band of the last 30 years and this is told by someone who has made research his life, your music is in my veins
Ive never heard of this but this would have been my jam in ‘96.. it fits right in with Beck, The Eels and UNKLE in that period of time. Don’t know how I looked over this when I was 14 years old.

Wait….I’m not alone here???

Couldn't have said it better. I'm watching it, I'm hearing it, I'm loving it... but can't quite believe it.
OMG! They’re back! Greatest 90s band ever. Please new material and tour!
They're on tour right now. First time in 25 years! 🔥
I got tickets to the Philly show

greatest 90s band would be RATM! 😛
@@vincentvega5686They were already with ridiculous price for tickets
God, Mike's voice is as clear as the album. This is fantastic. 💙🤎💙

I'm so incredibly jealous rn
I'm going to see them in Seattele in a couple of days.
