thanks for showing how to make those cuts. I am going to Try to make a bowl like that. Not sure how soon I will get to it but I will. The bowl is very pretty.
Thank you Kimsey. That will be different for you not having a lot of rotten areas in the wood LOL. Just kidding as those turnings tou do are the coolest!
@@ThePapa1947 😄 Yep it is pretty fun working with some rotten stuff but it’s also very nice working on some good wood that doesn’t need some TLC also! We have been working on some wormy chestnut 🌰 cabinets at work, I’ve been thinking about glueing up a chop block chunk to turn something out of for the past month, only thing I know the glue is gonna go all through the worm 🐛 holes and dunno how it will look, would be good if they were a black wood glue them the glue wouldn’t look so bad. I think there is black ca glue but don’t know about titebond wood glue.
@@kimseyjustkimsey5256 well funny you you are talking about black glue. In my last video at about the 20:00 mark I talked about dying wood glue black. What I used was the original Titebond. Perhaps a white glue might take less dye but it did work and it might fill those worm holes. Worth a try! Take care, Gary
That is a great idea for my next few bowls. I think using a sharp bandsaw blade will give the smoothest cut for the best glue-up. Very good explanation of your technique. The variety of designs is endless.
Thank you Paul and for sure a sharp blade helps. I had a 10 tooth that I was going to use but tested a cut with the 8 and it cut very nicely. I would love to hear how it goes when you try it. Take care, Gary
So I have a question about the tool you used to cut the ring out of the your glue up. I was wondering if that's a tool you bought or made? Oh and that homemade jig for the top of your tool rest looks pretty outstanding too!
Thank you William. I am using a Robert Sorry parting tool. It is 1/4 inch tall and .07" thick. I have a video for what I think is a better ring cutting jig look in my videos for version 2.1. Thanks for watching. Gary
Hi Gary Your video is very interesting and informative. The concept is effective and provides a very good result. As always the finish is excellent👍👍 take care Morgan
Hi Gary, Fantastic video and something I will try, hopefully soon. I'll be watching this a few times more so I get it right. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Huw and there are so many options for this. No reason you have to use just 2 types of wood. It would be a great way to use up all the scraps we have. Hope to hear how yours goes and it will be fun seeing it. Take care buddy, Gary
Normally I draw a circle the same size as the glue block tenon then hot glued it in place. I think on this one I had a glue on the base piece I had and then cut a recess in it. Then glued it to to the piece and cut the rings. As I recall I needed the piece farther away from the chuck so I could finish it without flipping so I turned a glue block to fit in the recess. Hope that all makes sense. Gary
Awesome video Gary, very well explained and the application of the finish helped a lot! That little bowl is a beauty it shows you don't need exact cuts to get good joints! Well done and thanks! Cheers Al
Another great trick Gary! I don't have a bandsaw but if I did, I would certainly give this a try. No bandsaw (yet) but I just got notice that my coring tool is on its way.
Thanks Leo! A coring tool...sounds interesting. Seems that would be especially nice if you were selling your bowls. Not sure I would use one much except for a large burl maybe. Or those large pieces of English Walnut I ended up with. Sheesh now it sounds like I need one LOL. Which one did you order? Gary

I have 2 each of a some bigger machines and I could get some breathing room if I was to part with one of each. But I would just get something else to put in its place LOL
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Hey Radar...I think you can do it with a jigsaw or scroll saw also
@@RadioFaceWoodWorks yes you can but try not to pause much.
Thank-you for all your helpful hints and tips I'm having a go today so lm keeping my fingers crossed tried your other plain one's successfully thanks again
Thank you James, happy the other one worked for you and best of luck on this one.
Take care,
Gary
Thanks Gary. This way of working opens up many new possibilities.
Thanks for this explaining and making this video.
Take Care.
Frank.
Thank you Frank and I hope you find lots of ways to use it.
Take care,
Gary
I think I mentioned this befor. Your papa 47 because you were born I 1947? Me too. Anyway, very nice vido again. I'm going to make one.
Thank you very much Mike. Yes I recall you mentioning that. A good year I would say. My first car was a 1947 Dodge Coupe. I paid $25.00 for it.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
I love how you can still tell that all the walnut came from the same piece of wood and vice versa, beautiful.
Thank you Leslie very happy you liked it.
Take care,
Gary
You done it again, awesome job. Starting me that bacon 🥓 bowl. Lol thanks for sharing Gary.stay safe Buddy.
Thank you Tony and that is a good one Bacon Bowl LOL

Great explanation. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Doug and thanks for watching,
Gary
thanks for showing how to make those cuts. I am going to Try to make a bowl like that. Not sure how soon I will get to it but I will. The bowl is very pretty.
Thank you Joann and best of luck when you get to it.
Gary
Many thanks for this very informative video.
Thanks so much! I hope you get a lot of use out of it.
Gary
Enjoyed the video Gary👍 And Very Nice Neat looking Piece! I’ve never tried anything like that before I may have to give that a shot sometime.
Take care,
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 Thanks I’ll definitely give it a try! 😊🤝
Very clever Gary! Would love to see the finished bowl made from the randomly curved strips. Great vid.
Thank you Gil and I will work it in for sure.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
that was very interesting I may attempt this one soon
Thank you Garry, let me know how it goes.
Take care,
Gary
That’s pretty cool how you did that
Thank you Joseph, I appreciate your watching and commenting.
Gary
This looks like something that would really be fun to experiment with. Good job Gary!
Thank you Dana, it is lots of fun and easy to do.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
That is a great idea for my next few bowls. I think using a sharp bandsaw blade will give the smoothest cut for the best glue-up. Very good explanation of your technique. The variety of designs is endless.
Thank you Paul and for sure a sharp blade helps. I had a 10 tooth that I was going to use but tested a cut with the 8 and it cut very nicely.
I would love to hear how it goes when you try it.
Take care,
Gary
You have such an amazing eye for how pieces fit together! There's so many amazing things everyone can learn from watching your videos!
Thank you Kurt for your very kind comment, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.
Gary
definitely make the bowl out off the other weave piece u glued up. thanks.
Thank you Manjit and I probably will make something out of it down the road as they say.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Gary
So I have a question about the tool you used to cut the ring out of the your glue up. I was wondering if that's a tool you bought or made? Oh and that homemade jig for the top of your tool rest looks pretty outstanding too!
Thank you William. I am using a Robert Sorry parting tool. It is 1/4 inch tall and .07" thick.
I have a video for what I think is a better ring cutting jig look in my videos for version 2.1.
Thanks for watching.
Gary
Thanks, it is on my list to try.
Thank you Roger. Pretty easy to do and lots of fun.
Gary
This looks great I have to try
Thank you Bill and thanks for watching.
Gary
Hi Gary
Your video is very interesting and informative.
The concept is effective and provides a very good result.
As always the finish is excellent👍👍

Morgan
Thank you Morgan I appreciate your comments and thanks much for watching.
Take care my friend,
Gary
Yep. Winner
Thank you Stuart happy you liked it.

Take care buddy,
Gary
It looks like you added a glue block tenon to the bottom for chuck use. How do you get the glue block centered?
Normally I draw a circle the same size as the glue block tenon then hot glued it in place. I think on this one I had a glue on the base piece I had and then cut a recess in it. Then glued it to to the piece and cut the rings. As I recall I needed the piece farther away from the chuck so I could finish it without flipping so I turned a glue block to fit in the recess.
Hope that all makes sense.
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 Hot glue holds it sufficiently?
Beautiful piece. You explain the process so well.
Thank you Jim...happy you liked it.
Gary
Awesome video Gary, very well explained and the application of the finish helped a lot! That little bowl is a beauty it shows you don't need exact cuts to get good joints! Well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Thanks so much Al and that bandsaw blade was not all that sharp.
Take care,
Gary
Another great trick Gary! I don't have a bandsaw but if I did, I would certainly give this a try.
No bandsaw (yet) but I just got notice that my coring tool is on its way.
Thanks Leo! A coring tool...sounds interesting. Seems that would be especially nice if you were selling your bowls. Not sure I would use one much except for a large burl maybe.
Or those large pieces of English Walnut I ended up with. Sheesh now it sounds like I need one LOL.
Which one did you order?
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 I ordered the Oneway system.
