Review: 2024 Buick Envista - Unbeatable Value at $23,495?

- I review the 2024 Buick Envista which is Buick's new entry-level model that starts at a refreshingly low $23,495 starting price. For that money you get a lot of impressive standard equipment including an 11 inch touchscreen, digital gauges, tons of interior space, and a respectable amount of power for this segment as well. While higher trims of the Envista can get into some competitive territory, the base Preferred trim's value is unrivaled at that $23,495 price tag. What do you think about the Buick Envista? Thanks to Buick for providing this opportunity!

I really appreciate how you don’t expect everything to handle like a sports car. You mention the target audience of each car you review and state how it achieves or doesn’t achieve that goal.
It’s very clear that you have a lot of experience in this field. Well done, Matt!
Took the words out of my mouth, too many car reviewers have too high standards on the more "basic" cars, but Matt, sees cars from a logical POV, for the average consumer, who will probably buy this as a cheaper family car, etc.
Thanks man, I really appreciate that!
@@MattMaranMotoring Do you think the ST trim with Watts link is worth the upgrade? That still comes in a little under $26,800 -- about the same as a CX-30 Select.
@@brocklanders6969 I'd say it's a nice perk if you want the other things the ST provides, but at least from my experience, it doesn't make a huge different in the ride or handling, so I wouldn't go up to a higher trim if that's the only reason you're interested in it.
Love these reviews of sub-$30k multipurpose vehicles!
This is one of the best looking and best value in that market
Thanks Ted, glad you liked the video!
Not a huge fan of the engine but I really like the looks. Now to find a decent dealer.
Nice review. Nice vehicle. Even the lack of AWD is perfectly fine (just get snow tires). One thing I really dislike is the lack of color on the inside. The same interior design with a splash of color would really make the car look even more impressive than it already is.
Agreed. I'm so sick of all-black interiors. It's so dark, drab, and depressing. It reeks of cost-cutting.
Agreed. Yea the Envista Avenir with the lighter grayish tan color inside looks so much more upscale and airy inside.
Great review. This thing fits the bill for what it is replacing.
Great review. Thanks Matt.
Thanks for watching!
Any car under 30k seems like a really good value. I kinda like the front end styling... 😊Appreciate the reviews as always!
Great review! Looking forward to future reviews.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
@@MattMaranMotoring Matt, could you tell me if that car was more like a burgundy, or cranberry color, versus just a red color? I know that visuals, can look different, from screen to screen! We all set up our devices differently. Please let me know, at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
@@TheCatMamaChannel I'd call it closer to a cranberry or ruby color, not dark enough to be considered burgundy to me but darker than the average red. Buick calls this color Cinnabar Metallic. Hope that helps!
@@MattMaranMotoring Thank you so much for that info, and for replying so quickly. Have a great day, and be safe!
Great affordable car. This is what people will buy in 2024 when the recession hits.
Great review! Really love this sedan sport back styling. Honestly gives off Tesla vibes! For a little higher pricing, I’d like to see cold seats, and rear passenger air vents. Really interested in this new car.
Love the "Preferred" grill!
On one hand a lot of gloss black in there, on the other hand that steering wheel and dash looks really good. You’re really getting a lot for $23k in 2023.
You can change the odo look by holding down the button on the right side of steering
I honestly forgot Buick exists…. But a nice car for the price!
Thats cause u probably drive a Toyota😂
The Envista is a very compelling value and overall package, but there are a few points that bother me. That bezel around the screens is entirely too big. It makes it look cheaper than it needs to. Both screens seem to have noticeable lag. That might get worse over time. Lastly, the taillights and turn signals are mounted in small red housings way down low in the bumper. It makes no logical sense why they didn't just make the higher-mounted tail light housings the brake lights and turn signals.
Great looking vehicle
They have another trim level coming out soon that has chrome bumpers, a landau roof and wire wheels. It will be called the Boca del Vista.
This could a nice second car daily for an enthusiastic with the price tag but we will see if the price stays low when the dealerships gets hold of them 😏
I think the biggest concern has to be the 1.2-liter I-3 turbocharged engine. That engine will be stressed a *LOT* in American driving conditions (especially accelerating onto freeways), and that could result in a lot of potential reliability issues if the engine isn't designed properly.
GM has learned a lot from the previous 1.4L Ecotec engine in its last model of cars. This is a refined version of their e-Turbo, 8th Gen Ecotec engine. It's bulletproof as long as you religiously change the oil at 3000 miles not 5K and change the PCV valve at 50K. I've seen many korean Malibus with > 500k on this engine.
Good looking vehicle and you get a lot for your money!
I like the value, but we'll see how they do on reliability. Those little turbos that GM makes are known for being pretty trash. If anything, the car will probably depreciate quickly, so you might be able to pick one up in a few years with relatively low mileage for under ten k
I'm cautiously optimistic about the engine. In the Trax presentation they said that they've reinforced the internals on this one. Will it last as long as a naturally aspirated Toyota motor? Maybe not, but hopefully it'll last as long as the average new turbocharged engine.
@MattMaranMotoring Some of us look for above average engines and reliability. My prior Buick and Pontiac cured my buy America virus.
If they are above average for the next 5 years they've probably still lost me. I'm too old to buy more than 1or 2 more cars.
I've had a 2020 GX with the 1.3t for 3 years and 42k miles... Has yet to give me a single issue, I love that engine!
Rented a FORD BRONCO sport 1.5 3cy turbo in Mountain county impressive power.
Matt, nice review, I like how you showed all three trim levels next to each other to show some differences, and interior differences, nice sheet metal, nice look, I will say very silly no All Wheel Drive. A brand like Buick which GM does consider a luxury brand should offer all wheel drive, at least have it as an option. Also, I am not being a GM hater, I said the same thing about the Toyota GR Corolla. I really don't think turbo direct injection three cylinders will stand the test of time. Now don't get me wrong Toyota / The Japanese engineers and designers usually do a lot of in depth testing so maybe it will be fine, but GM and small turbo engines do not have a good track record at all. Ask any mechanic about the Chevy Cruze 1.4 liter turbo. So many problems and short cuts. I hope the engine does well and proves me wrong. Let's all be honest here, Really it is common sense, Your putting so much strain and force on a small tiny engine. Just think a 2 liter bottle of soda is bigger volume then these engines. I am a weirdo that keeps his cars forever, I will not be diving into any three cylinder turbos. I will say at least these look nice, and it won't bother me seeing them on the road.
Chevy Cruze 1.4 liter turbo came out 10+ years ago and this 24 Trax, 24 Envista, 23 Trailblazer all have the same engine/Turbo 1.2 and the trailblazer been using the 1.2 engine/Turbo since 2020 and no major recalls or issues. GM learned from their mistakes with the Cruze 1.4 Turbo.........
Good review. Let me just add that people nowadays only care about reliability, not style...
If that were the case everyone would buy a Toyota or Lexus lol.
@@MattMaranMotoring You are wrong in this case. Sorry. People (the 99 percent) cannot afford a Toyota or Lexus. Do some social reading.
@@MM-gi3qj Huh? You can get a Toyota for the same price as this car...
@@MattMaranMotoring Some Toyotas, yes--the Corolla, for example. The point is that Toyotas, Lexuses, and Hondas have become unaffordable. As a result, people have ineluctably turned to GM crap. Of course, reliability is more important than style. Producing stylish crap is "no art." Chrysler has done that a lot with its junk...
Pretty nice looking for a SUV or Crossover or whatever they call these common vehicles. Now if only they would come back with one of their top line big sedans.
Simply, the most beautiful vehicle under 25k
I just bought the related Chevy Trax 2RS with Sunroof and Convenience. Now the Envista has a nice interior, but Chevy did the dash nicer. That left of the instrument screen bezel is horrible. Use the Trax dash instead? Wireless Android Auto has been flawless for the few days I've had it. For the price these are great, just don't think of them as SUVs they're fun zippy cars.
It's nice that there is no CVT. Nice vehicle.
Great looking vehicle and great price but Id be worried about the longevity of that tiny engine for the size of the vehicle.
If your a heavy foot driver look elsewhere, but your an steady cruise driver you won't have issues if you change oil/filter as required via owners manual..........
Nice car great price good first car
Coupe/SUV, is it a Toyota Crown?
Which one is better option; this or the Mazda CX-30?
190 hp + proven reliability vs 130hp + unknown reliability
I prefer the trax over this but still both are an incredible value
Good price but I’m scared they cheaped out where it counts for reliability, great review as always!
Thanks! 👍
They cheaped out by off-shoring the manufacturing of these to Korea. Funny how GM (an American company) is shipping more jobs overseas whilst the Asian and European makers are bringing jobs to the US.
Looks very very stylish, kinda worried about 1.3 liter 3 cyl turbo engine…….
I like the looks of it and the price, but my guess is the weakest link to that car is going to be the engine. It's small and going to be strained, so a person may be lucky to get much north of 100,000 miles before major trouble. A Corolla is the same price and would be more likely to go 2 or 3 times as far before major issues. Of couse if thats true the Corolla would be a much better value. Just my take.
If that would've had an AWD option, I feel like that would've been a slam dunk.
AWD isn't super necessary with FWD and good snow tires, if you live in snow states.
You need to upgrade to the Encore GX for awd.
I wish we got the Ford Puma in the U.S. instead of this....specifically the ST version with the manual transmission and mechanical limited slip diff
Nice looking and competitive overall, but China gets a 1.5 with 180 hp and awd, DK why they wouldn’t make that an option here I’m pretty sure there’d by takers.
I just read the China press release for this. No mention of a non-turbo engine or AWD. Considering the flat rear floor I don’t think it’ll ever have AWD.
I mean it just hits practicality
Is there an awd version?
No..he said that in the video
Did you watch the video?
Encore GX offers AWD
@@bigmacdaddy1234 apparently not
I wouldn’t turn this down at the rental counter.
Mazda is where Buick should of been definitely if they were headed for affordable premium
Modern day Pontiac Aztek
Not the most exciting vehicle, but seem to be a pretty good value given the price range.
It turbocharged and GM engeneers gave the car a powerful engine.
The front is attractive, the rear is almost identical to the old Honda Crosstour.
Is it made in China or Korea?
Korea
Now I'm torn between this car and the Ford Maverick. 🤔lol😂
Really nice looking car but that little engine it’s something to worry about. :/
3 cylinder Daewoo what could possibly go wrong. lol
GM acquired Daewoo in 2004. It's made by GM Korea.
Nice looking , classy , but 137 hp. 3cyl. ....YIKES!
Definitely needs a hatch window wiper!
No visible exhaust is almost as bad a faux exhaust tips
It's got the Tesla frog face I'm not sure if I like it
Very beautiful but come on honestly put at least 155 HP
Once they are the lot there gone😊
2 inches narrower than the Trax!? lol.
The off brand of the Lamb Urus
Needs a LS swap
The styling is ok but that engine is malnourished. Just like the Trax. Inflation did us no favors
But.... it's a Buick.....😂
Kia Seltos starts at $24,390 and is arguably better than this Buick.
Stop praising this car! It's and insult to the car buying public. Buick, do you really want to suggest that we want a new car with the smallest motor you can design? We want and deserve more in our cars. Sure, it's a pretty car, and sure, it has a bunch of nice features. But it is an insult to suggest this is what we now deserve. This car will allow you to get up to the speed limit. Eventually. Buick used to represent a higher level of luxury, looks, and PERFORMANCE ! Now, they offer us this ? Shame on you Buick! You used to make awesome cars! Now, do you really think this is what we dream about? "HONEY, DON'T TRY PASSING THIS TRACTOR, YOU MIGHT NOT MAKE IT ! ! !
Front seats too narrow.
Very narrow front seats. Buyer beware!
I really don't like affordable coupe SUVs. It used to be that only the wealthy could show how little taste they have.
Just because you don't like coupe suvs and prefer boring mom mobiles doesn't mean that there are tasteless people... I happen love them because they do t look like every other boring SUV
@@adamnelson4814, the problem is that these are pointless vehicles. Less practicality and comfort than a wagon/estate with a higher center of gravity, more aerodynamic drag, and no offroad capability. These vehicles are pointless.
@@flyingphoenix113 to you... For me they differentiate from all of the grocery getting SUVs... They are sportier with a better center of gravity...
@@flyingphoenix113 You have it all wrong. Most people don't buy on practicality, center of gravity, aerodynamic drag and offroad capability. They buy on availability, looks, price, ease of financing, and warranty. For these reasons, it will sell.
If I want a Korean car I'll buy a Kia or Hyundai, not a GM.
I think my lawn mower has a bigger engine.
Does that make you feel better?
@@matty2time it's still not enough to compensate for my micro penis
@@matty2timeGo mow your lawn.
Your lawn mower doesn’t have this shape
And your refrigerator has a more powerful brain. Please go back on your meds.🇺🇸💀🧐
I feel like cars nowadays aren’t progressing. Reliability is down. No originality at all. I dunno.
Aren’t ALL Buicks built in China now??
No, this one's built in South Korea.
These engines must be absolute trash.
We'll find out in a few years time.
Hard pass.... Needs a much better competitive and fun drivetrain....
Drive one …its quicker than it sounds.
No it does not. This is for folks that just want to go to Walmart and work. Nothing more is needed.
Sure. But people should be clear how sluggish this will be. Especially on dangerous highways kanybwhich I have driven. Ie. Quick exits off five lane highways don't even bother. Why people buy underpowered cars makes me question peoples lack of intelligence for not putting safety first. Looks are superficial. Gm has made a habit of offering many many weak engines in their SUVs. They are the worst offender in the United States in this area. Just saying. Enjoy looking at it
The price is reflective of its country of manufacturing, which is China. Not too much of an issue, but I'm skeptical.
These are built in South Korea, not China.
Another underpowered suv by GM. Not in a million years would I go near this. Why would anyone in their right mind take this over a Corolla Cross Hybrid or Subaru Impreza rs
This is several thousand dollars cheaper…
@@MattMaranMotoring Right. But being underpowered it’s irrelevant as it’s just not a desirable car. The others are.
The huge majority of buyers in this segment do not care about power. This will be plenty powerful for the average buyer. Look how many Encores and Trax they've sold in the past 10 years, and those all had even less power.
It doesn't have a cvt
@@twotrackjack2260 so what. It’s still slow as a turtle. Small engine. 1.2 liter joke. Under 130hp. From the 1970s
For a new vehicle, it sure tons of scuff marks and scratches in the interior. Looked like a 5 year old car. 🙄
All that babbling and he couldn't do a 0-60 test? 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Yea, another throwaway shitbox
Dude you funny as he'll with that reply
Why the ST looks bigger 🧐
Appreciate the review as always. Front end looks good, but what a ugly side profile though 🫣
