That Red light creeping was really weird. I had a SINGLE instance of FSD beta creeping into an intersection like that after late stopping on a red light. But that was many, many versions back and none since.
I drive FSD in the Cleveland, Ohio area, and I'd agree with you about the CA drivers that post videos. It's clearly WAY better in handling CA roads (even very urban areas like SF), than it is in handling other parts of the country. Although it's clearly getting much better (overall), it is a VERY different driving experience than those on the West coast. I suppose this is to be expected. I wonder what percentage of FSD drivers are in CA versus the other states. I find that drivers in NE Ohio seem to be WAY less patient than those I see in other people's FSD videos (in other parts of the country). Maybe you are correct, and an external GoPro camera might clue other drivers into knowing that something unusual is going on. Maybe I'll give that a try. Thanks for posting the videos showing everybody the difference between CA FSD driving an another large metro area.
I have a 2023 M3P w/FSDBeta v11.3.6 and a week ago was heading from Indiana to Illinois on US30 engaged when I got a red steering wheel without a blue screen. This happen to me two times and I even pulled over and REBOOTED the screen. The visualization glitched out and only showed my car with no ego basically with no traffic. Very strange to me and this never happen before…. My Beta does really good over all but does have some bad days. A couple few days later while engaged and driving I reached my left hand in my front pant pocket to get my cash out and got a STRIKE on my perfect record. I think lifting up off the seat the car thought I was heading to the back seat. I disengaged with the steering wheel then the stock but it didn’t help.
One thing about Chicago is the signals are blocked intermittently by the tall buildings and the L tracks. I wonder how FSD would handle Lower Wacker Drive with all the concrete and steel overhead. When a human is looking at Google maps on two level roads like Wacker and part of Michigan Ave., Google maps often jumps to the wrong level which is frustrating when doing some armchair exploring.
Good video. Taxi improvising an opening in traffic is an interesting special case where big city driving creates new rules. I was wondering about a GPS quality indicator as well. I don't know if the GPS chip they use is able to calculate a precision value. When I've used precision GPS it could tell how good the lock was and it could vary from a few millimeters to 10s of meters. Just being next to a metal fence with open sky could freak it out. When I'm thinking about how I would design an autopilot, knowing the GPS confidence is fairly crucial. Without GPS it has to position itself by visual cues; lanes, curbs, stop lines and that will be particularly pronounced underground. The glitching might be related to many vehicles being in view and maybe fluctuating because they are in the distance. So numerous cars are foaming into existence. Maybe
Your car computer is not behaving like it should. I have a 2020 SR+ Atom computer with FSD Beta, and I am not experiencing such glitches.... and I do see dogs with the current version. I would recommend scheduling a service appointment and sending the part of this video when the software crashes. They may replace your computer with a new one. When I took delivery of my M3 in January 2020, I had the red steering wheel warning coming up multiple times during the first week. I brought it back to Tesla and they replace the whole FSD computer with a new one.
Hello there! It's still only the OG testers who have v11.4.1 right now. The only people getting Beta pushed to their cars are the people who didn't already have v11.3.6. When v11.4.x goes wide, if you're not receiving it, you can try toggling the switch in your car in the Software menu for the Software Update Preference from Advanced to Standard. Wait a little bit. Then toggle it back to Advanced. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.
Wow, the lake view is super cool, I thought Michigan Ave is beautiful, but that lakeside road is wonderful. I actually think the performance of FSD during rush hour is ok, still need improvement, but not too bad. The visualization issue is annoying, hopefully they could solve it. Is it only happending when there are a lot of traffic and pedestrian?
Yeah! Lake view is amazing. The visualization glitches seem to mainly happen when my car loses GPS connectivity. I don’t think it’s related to heavy traffic or “information overload”.
Which hardware version do you have? To me it looks like the processor is lagging. Be sure to verbally speak the issue when you submit a report. There is an issue when 2 lanes go into 1 without direction of which is primary. High buildings interfere with GPS, so system switches to "dead reckoning" which consumes more CPU cycles. Clean all of the camera lenses too. You are in the most challenging area.. the bridges over each other is a problem too.
FSD took a right turn and went straight into the bike lane and right before I was about to take over, I got a red steering wheel and take over warning, but I never got a strike message, and FSD was able to re-engage as soon as I left the bike lane. Im guessing this doesnt count as a strike?
No dogs probably translates to ... less resetting your screen issues (may be the hardware is dynamically adapting to computer power scenarios and sometimes this goes beyond the computed scope...) . Atom afaik in computer science means "=" less processing power and battery consumption for mobile computers.. (guessing you already know this)
As for what to test, I think its weaknesses will be in odd angle intersections, 5 or more legs, tiny semirural hilly roads, light rail in cities, certain railway crossings, maybe harbor/docks/industrial where stuff is improvised. Anything non standard would be my guess. Maybe a black neighborhood, see if it's bullet proof :) of course the underground you can test from time to time which is a unique special case but for now I'm guessing it just doesn't work. West Menomonee street is tight with parked cars on both sides after work in old town. Might be a challenge. North lincoln ave has a 6 way intersection. Cafe Brauer by the zoo has a little circle loop road. Might not be a challenge but maybe.
Definitely sure. Well, at least for me it got more strict when I got my 3rd and 4th strikes with v10.12.2. They came without any warning. The second the screen started flashing blue, I went to move the steering wheel and it gave me an instant strike. Same thing happened when I accidentally had the visor covering the camera. Instant strike!! I was so mad.
Unfortunate that you got your strike cause your screen was glitchy... Do you have insurance thru Tesla as well ? I have it thru Tesla and I am always wary of pressing on the brake hard or frequently as that causes your safety rating to go down and increasing premium.. Same thing for the FSD strike - they penalize u again on premiums...
I have a feeling that the screen glitches is because of the modified screen you have installed for screen capture. I’ve noticed the same behavior in other creator videos using the same setup as you and they have to reset the screen ever so often to fix it.
If I do get a Tesla next year - 2024- I don't know if I would ever get the FSD feature even if my ratings are high. It seems FSD strikes would be too nit picky for me and if I have to keep my hands on the wheel all the time, might as well just use the built in standard Cruise Control (if needed). I have standard Cruise Control in my Monte Carlo, but have not needed it for a long time. I think I would have FSD anxiety on whether the vehicle is going to do the right thing. Plus we have to keep our hands on the wheel anyway, so what is the point of having FSD???? If Tesla would put in an Alert Camera to watch your eyes while driving like GM does with Super Cruise, it might be a more viable feature. I am Retired, not handicapped in any way, I just drive around my town and never drive on the freeways anymore. Also would be doing all my charging at home. So even at subscribing for 200 dollars a month - 2,400 dollars a year, FSD is a waste money for me (it would be just a play toy to me). I can't think of a useful application and even get some money for using FSD. And at my age, no, I don't want to be a Taxi Driver or delivery person. Some may find this FSD useful, but not me. And I wouldn't buy FSD just to make You Tube videos. I would like to hear some videos on why you find FSD absolutely necessary for your driving (that you can't live without it)?????? I can't come up with any. End of my Rant. take care.
Thanks for your comment! It's not absolutely necessary. I would definitely try it out though. It's worth a shot for $200/month in my opinion. It depends on your roads and how often you would use it. There is a camera monitoring you at all times above the rearview mirror. It's rumored that the requirement to put force on the steering wheel will be replaced entirely by the DMS (driver monitoring system) in the future. Thanks for your suggestion - I would be happy to make a video on why it's absolutely (or not absolutely) necessary for your driving. But believe me, you can definitely live without it while it's still in Beta mode. =P
@@techgeektesla It will always be in Beta mode and therefore, as you say, you can definitely live without it. You could choose to pay for it and get your money back later by joining one of the inevitable class action lawsuits.
It is definitely worth it if you drive a good deal especially in traffic or on highways. I have only had a few strikes in over a year. Even though it’s beta, it navigates almost flawlessly on highways and two lanes. It saved me from a serious accident a few days ago as it saw a truck merge into my lane that I couldn’t see. I don’t know why he has so many issues in Chicago, but georgia it performs great. I would feel like it was a great loss without it.
Regarding your dog. Today I encountered a turkey crossing the road and FSD visualized the turkey as a dog and slowed down fairly abruptly which was ok. v11.4.2
I saw a dog show up w/ v11.4.2 recently as well!! For some reason, I couldn't get any dog visualizations when I was using v11.4.1.. thanks for letting me know. Very interesting that the turkey showed up as a dog. LOL
I'm not a Tesla FSD expert at all. But this iteration of FSD looks pretty terrible. You are risking a lot of legal liability getting into potential accidents for this testing and these videos could be used against you in court. I thank you for taking the risk. I certainly would not volunteer to test FSD this thoroughly.
@@techgeektesla I have an area by my home that has no cellular service. The car goes into this dark area with no issues on FSD. I can't turn it back on while out of service if I go manual driving.
