Around lvl 8-10 I was in Goldshire and some lvl 60's rode down from Stormwind to welcome a friend who had just started playing and one of them was a raid geared warlock on their epic mount. I started a warlock immediately and it's been my main class ever since. Great video :D I wish I knew half as much as I do now back then. You don't level a warlock as Demo... you go full Aff, it's much safer, more fun and you learn the class much better. If you want to play with a tank pet and autoattack the mob, go for a hunter.
Aff: CoA, Corr, Immolate, fear, next mob, repeat. You can easily do 3 or 4 mins at the same time with this. To be safe, wait till you get the (near) uninterupted Drain talents before you start taking on 4 or 5 mobs at the same time.

I used to do speed run Sunken Temple runs with a tank and 3 locks as a holy priest. Purpose was to deal with 3 locks life tapping while being able to manage my mana and heal. It helped me balance mana usage better than ever and these days I've had some tanks tell me in a dungeon run that they never played with a priest who barely needs to stop to drink. Sounds silly but if you get the chance try and practice speed running with multiple locks life tapping to work on your own balance of mana usage and heals. This was in the vanilla days.

My way of warlock leveling is affliction with drain tankink using voidwalker. That way u have defensive options, makes killing 2 target super efficient. 1 tanked by voidwalker 1 by you and gives access to dark pact. U just have to manually use torment (macro /autocasttoggle tornent makes it possible to use torment without targeting the off target) and only use it when multidoting. • @Ryan_hey
      @Ryan_hey Год назад +3

I'm not sure it's safer, but I definitely prefer it. You spend more time with lower levels of health, which is why it I feel it's less safe. It really starts to shine in the late 20s when you have 5/5 Fel Concentration to reduce drain cast interruptions. Before then, it's is quite risky, although the Succubus damage is truly insane early on. Even later, Succubus will consistently do 20-30% of your damage, which compares only with the mana-stricken, fragile Imp.
The reason I find it more fun is the utility. Succubus can cast 3-4 Seductions before going OOM. This is often seen as just a safe version of Fear (mob doesn't run) that can only be used against humanoids, but it can also be used as an interrupt. This makes for a very strong pet since you'll never need to pull out the Felhunter.

I honestly don't undertstand how people die so much with Warlock. I reached lvl 54 on my first try
Also I would recommand to get improved corruption + suppression, then improved voidwalke,r and then go affli. The extra damage is pretty neat. It's a more agressive "classic" warlock with voidwalker
Remember that compared to mage, warlocks are BEEFY. Especially with demonic embrace. Their health is their mana bar as compensation. But as a warlock, you are more tanky than you could expect. Since you will mostly dot, no pushback either. Don't be scared to take a few hit.
You said as some point "if you crit you may take aggro" how do you expect to crit ? Shadowbolt ? How dare you. With an affli spec you absolutely does not use shadowbolt, unless you have nightfall proc and you'll try to finish the mob with it.
Warlock is a very reliable class thanks to Voidwalker's tanking and mostly sacrifice. It's a get out of trouble card really. Do NOT let your voidwalker die without using it because you want him to take an extra hit, it's what killed me.
If shit hits the fan, use life tap. Do not be paralysed at the idea to use life tap => fear (or life tap => hellfire, which saved me once) instead of a wanding which could be too slow. Mana is survivability. It's an hard line to walk but your health is better spent on a spell saving you that taking one extra hit
If you are alliance, do NOT go fetch your succubus unless you want to play drain tanking. The quest is super far and super long for a pet you may not use. It has a soul bag but you'll have to make do. Do it with your felhunter
At lvl 31 you have a blood golden robe quest. DO IT. It has 10 stamina 17 intel, it will last you forever.
Warlock is a resillent class. A good warlock cannot be killed by his enemies, only by his own stupidity by over life taping or over fearing. And in duo, it is fantastic with a healer, since he can turn healing into damage. He's excellent with a druid (druide cast hot then go cat to fight) or priest. Best is palahael because with focus aura you could consider going destruction, intensity makes you immune to pus back and hellfire is devastating. You need a healer you can trust tho.
When you learn master summoner, make a macro with fel domination +> summon voidwalker, to summon one in 0.5s to instantly sacrifice him. Excellent panic button

Agreed - I play locks all the time. I play them different than most, I run down the affliction tree, but only use the imp. VW sucks at higher levels as I eventually out dps it. But with the imp they fall faster than they can kill me. Remember there are lots of classes that don't have pets, so I use the imp as a crazy dps buff. Anyways works for me. Using the VW takes longer to kill if he holds the aggro. Another note - get a wand at level 5, and you will rarely run out of mana.

Warlock has worst success rate because people keep using the demo build which is just straight up bad. And yet its presented first. I ve leveled HC warlock (first try HC char) easily with affli build. You just dont have fundamental abilities and talents if you dont spec into affli. Voidwalker will never be able to keep aggro consistently and basically every talent except instant pet cast is just useless. You need to be strong individually while having the pet as a support, not tank. Also agony in affli talent tree is bs because you will barely ever get full advantage of all ticks (also the dmg increase is shit). Nightfall can be life saver in some situations + very good in 1vX scenario due to multiple corruptions. What you wanna do is pull with pet and then to CoS + SL + corruption and spam drainlife, you will do at least two drainlifes before pulling threat. This way you will maximize your mana and hp efficiency and will never need food. You will also be ending fights will high mana and hp left. Immolate only when you dont have enough dmg. Also use void at all times as HC - aoe taunt and sac is great way for escape. Pet management is also important but this comment is getting too long.

I've played a warlock for what seems forever. From Vanilla to Classic Era, I can always say for vanilla-based warlocks, "Never ever use or train spellstone." It is a trap. You lose all of your buffs, everything. You might think it's a great shield but you risk dying from even using it. Consider it a super dispel where you immediately remove all of your buffs.
Back during Vanilla, I considered using the spellstone for lock tanking twins in AQ40. I asked some of my guildies to buff me so I could see what my stats and such would be. Then popped a spellstone and poof every buff I had was gone. The same case occurred in Classic Era when I slightly considered it again and was like, "oh yeah, that's why I never used it back then."
So for the sake of saving your buffs, save your gold and never train spellstone.
Firestone though, if you've got a 1h and the firestone is better than your OH, you might as well use it. But to be fair, there are many more staves that are better options than using any 1h and FS combinations. Edit: Plus you only have Immolate, Searing Pain, Rain of Fire, & Hellfire that would be buffed from Firestone. You'd be better off going strictly for shadow spell damage or straight spell damage gear as you have more shadow damage spells.
Plenty of good info in the video though! :)

Here's a followup to my original comment.
After a late start on HC I dinged 60 on my lock.
Out of all of that journey I only had 4 situations where I could have died.
      1) the first mine that you encounter in Elywn. I was killing those mobs on the outside of the mines to be safe. Then I went in to kill goldtooth or the named mob for the quest. Hyper spawns occurred after I looted and while I was killing a mob to get out. So I left my imp in there to die while I ran out and survived. I'd highly recommend not to do that quest. I got lucky with that misfortune.
      2) That tanaris chicken escort. It aggroed a croc that has a cone stun at the same time while the 3 mobs were spawned in. I managed to kill the croc and howl of terrored the others to the point where the chicken continued on moving. Definitely got lucky by running the same direction the chicken was going.
      3) had a disconnect with two mobs. Easy to tell when you DC since casts don't do anything and mobs stop following you. Alt-F4 and log in asap was what saved me in that situation.
      4) this one I wasn't really in danger of dieing but it is an easy mistake that could have been avoided. I was killing mobs and I went up a hill that I didn't see any of the usual mobs up there. Figured someone had killed them. So went up a little bit and had my back towards it, simple mistake that could have caused others to die. Since I didn't see mobs there I opted to fear my first mob and pull a second. The fear stayed on my screen and I referred it while getting ready to pull a 3rd mob, the first was getting close to dieing. It went up the hill and off my screen. I feared the newest mob and well, the first mob was followed by 2 more. Eventually I delayed enough to kill the original 3 mobs then escaped the extras. Did manage to get a recording of it because after that tanaris chicken I set up instant replay on GeForce experience if something else occurred.
Kinda surprised I've never used that before, quite handy without having to record everything then edit the clip out.
Anyways, greetings from Nerokos, 60 Human Warlock on Defias Pillager. Good luck my fellow shadowmages

Even rank 1 CoeX (Curse of Exhaustion) on affli locks is a must, with a macro using amplify curse + coex can be a lifesaver, and can be useful in dungeons or situations where you must outrun the followers. Hamstring and wing clip needs melee range, most slow has minimum range and cooldown, so even mages cant slow followers down for long, unless stopping to spam r1 frostbolts or r1 talented blizzard. Coex can be cast while running... on normal servers I usually picked it for PvP, was good against rogues AFTER they cast sprint, or against aspected hunters who tried to kite me.

Biggest note is Voidwalker, even with the +30% talents, is not a competent tank pet. It can barely hold threat from your DoTs, but what I found is that it barely does hold threat on 3 of your dots (possibly only 2 if you aren't demonology), allowing you to pull a 2nd mob to facetank yourself for double efficiency.
2nd note is voidwalker is also your best AoE pet. Use its sacrifice with Hellfire for big safe aoe, it also doesn't stress your healer as much, just stop when you start taking actual damage. (don't do this solo)

There are two different ramps. The first is a sure way to pull threat; immolate into corruption into agony . This ramp is probably what you have been doing, and it’s wrong for world content. The second is CoA into corruption into immolate. This way, you rarely ever pull threat even with wanding granted your micro is good . Chances are you don’t micro your pet, you have no idea how to fear juggle, and you don’t track your vw taunts. This is why warlock is hard, people have no idea how to play it, but still think they do. You’re wrong.

    @Liaxtube Год назад +2

I have always disagreed with the way a lot of people argue to level locks, based on Willie's description I basically do the drain tank spec...except I run with VW still. I also pick up nightfall. It's a great way to get aggro, but can still be helpful if used appropriately. You can 1v1 or even 1v2 a lot of mobs before 30 with proper fear juggling/aggro management, and once you get SL it becomes more comfortable. Amp curse really just makes full DoTs on a mob likely die. You send the VW in on a mob while you pick up your own with a shadowbolt into an immo, corr, agony, and fear. Then you put immo, corr, and agony up on your VWs and wand away with little fear (heh) of pulling threat; even if you do it'll be close to dead at that point. Watch your 2nd mob for the fear break and fear again as necessary. Rinse, repeat, victory.
Once you get SL I tend not to immo my VW's target as that'll probably pull aggro in addition to SL, but dive immediately into Demo to get ImpVW/Imp summoner/Fel Dom as early as possible as they are all critical survival talents later in leveling. If you have first aid, potions, and a healthstone available with two VW sacrifices up (via Fel Dom) you are borderline unkillable. Undead for cannibalize as an extra precaution/way to keep you going. Never even bothered with engineering for target dummies and I have stories of taking out 3-5 mobs in a chain.
Also really disagree that Consume Shadows is too costly. I've always used it on the regular and while it does keep his mana low(ish) plenty of mana for torment. Turn off AoE taunt by default, and you'll be fine. Really once you get comfortable with 1v2ing mobs it just gets easier and easier. The scary part with a warlock is definitely the early levels before you have access to all your abilities.
Anyways I feel like I am in the minority on this strategy, but it's always served me well. VW is definitely less damage though, but it's far more strategic from a defensive/recovery standpoint. He can easily grab and tank extra mobs for you that you ignore/grab with the AoE taunt while you focus down others, and if it goes really south a sacrifice and run away is very likely to save you, especially in late game with it being improved and having fel dom. And for reference leveled locks a lot, played one for TBC and WoTLK, and currently have a 36 HC one that admittedly I shelved for a while as I started working on a rogue.

It definitely makes the fight 100% undoubtedly easier, but unless I'm missing a piece of the puzzle, it would also take a long ass time and cost 2 soul shards per pull, so you wouldn't want to do it on every pull. And if you only do it in very rare situation, you can make the argument that it's not worth the gold to keep the spell leveled.

Having leveled like 15 different warlocks in WoW in a multitude of expansions, I never understood why people think it's easy. Sure it can be VERY easy IF you have every cooldown up and you start a fight at full hp full mana for both you and the demon. But that is the rarest case while leveling. Also when you reach around lvl15 in classic, it's almost like a hitting a brick wall. At that point your pet will take more damage per mob than they can heal back up passively but you don't yet have means to heal them back up, your spell costs get high but your self heal is still low so lifetap just kills you.. After you reach lvl40-45, it gets much better again but I really dread the lvl15-40 part of leveling a warlock.
