Parry haste is also a major factor why we want to kill enemies 3 levels below us, and highly avoid 3 levels above us. The chance to parry for a mob at 3 lvls higher (Generally) is roughly 12.5%. This is a whole 6% jump of parry chance compared to a mob that is 2 levels higher. I highly advise learning about the effects of Defense and Weapon Skill. It explains why humans are so good, why melees should always stick to green mobs, and why to be at the back of mobs ideally.
I have another tip: Get comfortable with items and spells you dont use often. How often do you need intimidating shout or sticky glue? If you play well, maybe once a week. Which means you have no mucscle memory. It got me killed when I asspulled a Stegodon in Ungoro. I had a break before playing again, so I wasnt too used to using Target Dummy and I had only used 3 glues until lvl 55 when I died. Substitue items which are consumables like the glue with a netomatic if you are a engineer to get into the habit of pressing that button and have the effect of the item mimicked. I use intimidating shout when fighting two mobs to hamstring + shout one and kill the other. Thats how I stay sharp, so Im not just to my 123 kill buttons but all of them.
This is a fantastic tip. If you very seldom use something, how are you supposed to remember to use it when your brain freezes, or you go into flight mode? This hasn't been upvoted nearly enough.
Coming back after finally hitting 60 on my Warlock this week. That unitscan list was pure gold. Saved me atleast twice and made some quests very clear. Thank you!
Leash range is also a factor - you cannot get a mob to drop aggro on you by simply running circles around it where you aggroed it, nether can you keep a mob leashed consistently by simply stopping for X amount of time while you are on a mount as an example, nor will a mob facilitate its own leash timer reset by forcing you to stand still, be that through a root or stun effect. i find it easier to think of mobs as extreme "stand your ground" enthusiasts, meaning they will fight you and beat you to death so long as they can justify self defense, but the moment you appear to flee from them for a long enough distance without posing a threat to them, they will return to their little "home base", waiting for another chance to "self defend".
thank you!!!! i played wow for years as a kid but im about to get back into it. i cant wait to re learn all this stuff as a hardcore, im ready for multiple attempts.
I always felt like mobs have such different leash timers. I've had a murloc chase me forever, or bandits that returns after only a few seconds. I never knew about the 9 second rule with it. It sounds about right.
There is an addon called bestiary that will show you what spells every mob has in the tooltip when you hover over them. Would highly recommend so you can see what your about to go up against. In particular watch out for mobs that can execute/stun/heal
SPLIT PULL??? WHAT? How have I never heard of this? Huge thumbs up to this video for that tip alone! It should be number one or at least be mentioned on the thumbnail or something - trust me, that will be the most valuable to most players.
genuinely useful tips. I paused this video a bunch to fix some stuff in my interface (interact + bigger font for parry floating text). thanks for the unitscan list also!
Split pulling and parry haste were 2 things i did not know, glad i watched the whole video. Parry haste explains why me and my duo partner get mobs damage patterns down and then they randomly have bursts of damage.
I was expecting your videos to be whatever, but honestly you have the best information out there about hardcore that I’ve saw so far. Really well done videos, thank you.
I started this video not expecting to learn anything. I was wrong. This is good stuff. I wasn't aware of split pull using an AOE opener. Another great reason to level engineering.
Nice tips, especially the leash. However, IIRC in WoW the Z-axis is the vertical position (up/down), Y is horizontal position (east/west) and X is depth position (north/south). Also it's impossible that the game only checks for the X axis otherwise any mob on the east or west axis could hit you, no matter their distance. I think you meant the game only checks your 2D position (X and Y axis) but not the Z axis. But your final explanation is correct. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't played WoW in ages)
Yeah I came here to add that - I think the idea she's trying to communicate is correct, just the exact explanation is a bit off. The horizontal plane is the X and Y axis, and Z is the vertical dimension. The game is checking distance across the XY plane and not the Z axis. And that's what the message was even if it was explained a little wrong. It's super helpful to be reminded that mobs can still hit you even if they're above you on a fucken staircase... Thanks for the reminder. That would be one hell of a way for a run to end.
thanks. I never knew about tips 5 and 6. Thinking back on my game play I never realized why sometimes mobs would break the leash resulting in a single pull and sometimes they wouldnt. Very useful.
nice ! After 3 hc tips video , you are only one who clearly state why you should left clic to interact ( may be i did not be aware enough with the oters ) thanks !
This video was very helpful. Back in the day we would say that the mobs that "cried for help" would "baf" or "briend a friend". Before voice chat was so common "oom", "baf", and the like were much more common
Great video, only other tip I'd offer is to remember to back jump to avoid the 50% daze chance if they hit your back. Seen too many death clips of people just trying to W key away
Thanks for sharing the info on leashing. I didn't know it was timer based. I've played a lot of classic, and I think I have a good feel for leashing, but I always imagined it was the distance not time that mattered. Also never knew about mobs benefitting from parry haste.
i just started playing HC classic yesterday, and its been fun. I will probably reroll today on an actual HC server because I didn't know which one to use previously. All around good tips thanks :)
I knew all the mechanics from just playing the game, but I never knew the names for these mechanics. I definetly learned wow the hard way, through trial and error. Now I am giving hardcore a go. This video however is also very helpful for new players who dont play hardcore as it gives great tips on how the game works.
I came to this video thinking I would know everything already and I can’t believe how wrong I was. Tip number 5 is specially useful not just for hardcore. Thanks!
Great video! Straight to the point and very informative. I didn't really know how leashing and splitpulling works, even though I thought I did. I was under the impression that any damage or healing done when leashed reset the distance, rather than time. Looking forward to an even more in-depth video on this topic!
Did you get Unitscan to work? I installed it and copied the list over, but the addon doesn't seem to do anything. I'm standing near Hogger trying to test if it does anything. Also typing /unitscan does nothing.
8:30 , you can fortunately run along the wall by the waterfall in the STV troll area and escape that way to the hill at the entrance. It’s an extremely tiny ledge, but very easy to do. It’s also a nifty way to save time getting the troll tablet quickly and safely
I have played since actual vanilla and I still somehow didn't fully understand how leashing works. Awesome tips. I will definitely be shying away from both caves and non-cave caves.
Yeah, that's why melee dps hit the boss in the back. I have seen bosses kill a tank in 1 second, because the rogue attacks are ALL PARRIED so the tank gets instakilled.
I always thought instinctively that leash timer was somehow related to how far the mob was from it’s original location factored by how far the mob was from my character (as passing by with a mount seemed to break the leash much faster) but this is an interesting info. Also i grew up moslty on Pserv mechanics which may not be the same
From my experience, one of the best way to runaway from mobs are running diagonally strafe+forward.. or forward+mouse-rightclick with a slight twist.. you can pretty much evade most of the melee attacks and wiil not be stunned. Used this technique since 2005 😅 about 95% times works like a charm. Also when passing by mobs (riding mount), its best to just go straight through instead of trying to go around. 😊
I never saw that Mural Pixel art close up before!! The Grays DI, the Stratholme Incident, and the HC Rag Triumph. That's fucking tight. Also my druid brain never realized that's how split pulling worked. Great vid!
Parry haste exists even in retail today and is how people like Rextroy have soloed current content raid bosses, by just agroing literally every trash mob in a raid and getting tons of parries, so he basically just has instant autos for the whole fight. I first learned about parry haste from him during either BFA or SL, don't quite remember. That unitscan thing is great btw, going to add that to my list of addons for sure.
Quite fun that i knew all this tips as a 11 years old kid when i got the game one year after release, but never learned how the AH worked as a child. i never used AH as a kid until Wrath came out. I did vendoring everyhing back then. One small note, eng is not my native language. heck i know more eng nowdays compare to my parents and future gens even know more eng than i will ever learn.
ed. after lfg system was implemented, somehow i became the silent type, since it destroyed the only way to learn to comunicate, im not the only one so im sorry the info has been lost.
Wow, as much as I've played this game I did not know that leash time was effect by level or about the difference between group pull and call for help on leash timer.
You really need to add the Coral Shark from Dustwallow Marsh on the dangerous mob list... Learned this the hard way on my level 38 warlock, was full hp, 1.7k. Noticed I was in combat with the shark and died 0.2 seconds later. - The shark killed me in one hit, even though I had 954 armor from demon skin and elixir of greater defense.
I'm pretty sure it's not just the time that's being considered into leashing but also the distance you kite the mob. I don't know. It just always felt like it's more of a distance issue than time.
Z axis sent me I could you laughing internally on that one like damn we out here making graphs and doing geometry to maximize our gameplay, gotta love it 😂
As playing as a Paladin, i'm glad that I now know about the parry haste lol. Also it's funny that you mention the Explosive rockets as i am currently level 55 and i still have 7 left :D Definitely going to use them on that dwarf quest in EPL
Unitscan addon is great, aswell as custom made list. But if you play horde you shouldn't relax alot as, i assume, this list is more alliance oriented. Very underrated tip. Having muscle memory for those get out of a sticky situation/trump cards is super good
This is a fantastic tip. If you very seldom use something, how are you supposed to remember to use it when your brain freezes, or you go into flight mode? This hasn't been upvoted nearly enough.
This is why you see people mouse-clicking things on their action bars in HC death videos.
WOW! The first person that explained split pulling perfectly. Thank you so much.
Finally a video that provides actual good tips that are not that well known/obvious and is not just trying to milk the HC hype. Keep it up
Glad you enjoyed!
Tip: don't let your HP drop to 0

Only 9 seconds If u don't hit it. A lot of people keep mobs in combat by hitting
