I don't use Cubase (I use logic) and I was that close to stopping the video, but he's actually very helpful and explains everything articulately but in a straight forward way. Great track too!
Wow. I pride myself upon my fade techniques but it never occurred to me to overlap the fades so there isn't a break between effected samples! Mind blown. LoL. Dope stuff.
I don't make drum and bass but the information in this video is so solid! I feel like a lot of young cats out there forget about the eqing! So clutch. Great tips on snare reinforcement. Props for that.
Hey C*ntFace, do you master your own stuff as you go? I see your levels are pushed pretty hard, and it goes against everything that people say about producing... My levels are high and I try to mix & master as I go... even though it conflicts with what everybody says.
Lol I've noticed Cubase users are very squirley and hyper with how they move around the daw... Virtual Riot is the same way zooming in and out and clicking and tapping quickly lol shoutout to yall
lol its a habit of older cubase users, its hilarious to see in person. they dont know that they can hold ctrl+scroll wheel to zoom. legends though, theyre stupid fast
could someone please tell me what Loopmasters sample pack he's talking about at 4:06? I couldn't get the name of the guy who made the pack, Smith or something?
mark boyle So just because the artist is from a certain part of the world, they have a different sounds? That might have applied 200 years ago, but since we now have internet that statement makes no sense.
This guys talking about making tracks sound natural right after he reveals he's making 10-12 boosts, and 0 cuts. Maybe he does later in the vid but I couldn't make it all the way through after the almost carnage esque misinformation
+Ghost in the Machine but he also mentions he makes those boosts either to add atmosphere to the track, or to add life into a flat sample that would probably sound less natural without the boosts and cuts
+Running Hedgehog his end goal is correct but the way he gets there is literally the opposite of any respectable engineer. When you want a frequency to stand out you have two options, boost or cut. Boostings inherent problem is that it distorts the track and can cause phase problems. And before I get the novice response of " some people like distortion" this isn't a desirable distortion I'm talking about. It would be the equivalent of digital clipping. However instead of boosting let's say 1k hz and causing the distortion and phase issues, you could STILL make the 1k region more impactful with your equalizer by cutting the frequencies that surround it. This technique is called subtractive eq. And it is the basis for all professional mixing engineers. Do an internship in any studio literally in any part of the world and no one, and I mean literally not a single person would say that adding a 12 db boost is ever something you wanna do. You'll ruin tracks in seconds thinking that way
+Ghost in the Machine Theres no difference wether you cut or boost. Both moves cause a phaseshift. If you want to bring out a specific harmonic, adding one boost is a lot better than a dozen cuts. A modern pro eq lile pro-q can handle the boosts with a smooth sound. Older eqs like on an SSL start to sound really bad with pretty much anything higher than a 4db cut/boost. But its all about knowing what the tools youre using sound like.
+icytux yeah your right man, Andy Wallace, Eddie Kramer, Chris lord alge, those guys have no idea what they are talking about right? They may be some of the top mixing engineers who have ever lived but you clearly know something they don't lmao....Saying boosting and cutting is then same is just mind blowing uninformed. Both cutting and boosting cause phase shifting true, but in layman's, the problem with boosting is the compounding frequencies you will inevitably end up with clash. Boosting itself is a great tool! But if ALL you do is boost like funtcase here, your just gong to be boosting more and more of your tracks to compensate for the giant eq hump you just threw on your other track, and eventually end up with an undefined, muddy, amateur mix. And just to clarify my original point, my problem with the moron on this video isn't that he boosts, it's that he almost EXCLUSIVELY boosts. And he's boosting 12 db nonetheless and calling moves like that natural sounding? Lol, just lmao
+Ghost in the Machine Another classic example of people thinking the engineering is more important than the actual music itself..... He's making lots of money out of his tracks AND playing lots of shows..... He even said that he isn't the best mixer or whatever it is that you would call it. He doesn't have an engineering title. Only a producer and DJ title. Give these producers some slack...its not like its the Carnage video... I can't believe you even compared the two.....
"the thinner the q and the wider the q..." DUDE IT'S CALLED BANDWIDTH. Geez I'm only in producing for like a few months and I know that already hehe... carnage
+Daniel Williams not everyone knows its called bandwidth, these videos aren't just for the experienced people so you have to explain and break it down simpler
Except for the fact you are wrong moron. The "Q" or Q factor, is the function that CONTROLS the bandwidth of an equalizer. The higher you set your Q factor the more narrow the bandwidth will be and vice verse. Learn your facts before you try and look knowledgeable
+kye903 it CAN.....but not the way hes doing it. If you dont no when you can clip and at what parts of your chain its best just not to clip....Ultimatley your doing it to push zero harder and push your master limiter less in contrast. how much you can get away with it and where just takes practice and learning where and how you can get your track louder without drastic shortcuts like extreme limiting
+Kirk Monteux Very true, i was quite nervous doing this so letting things play didn't actually cross my mind while making it. Apologies for that actually.
i've just done a cheeky little boost here
I don't use Cubase (I use logic) and I was that close to stopping the video, but he's actually very helpful and explains everything articulately but in a straight forward way.
Great track too!
"Shout out to carnage" LOL what a boss
FuntCaseUK what?
Jay what the fuck do mean?
THAT STUDIO LOOKS MONSTROUS!
And he's using samples and stems 😬
what a great guy!
Thanks so much for making this video! the track is sick and seeing how it was made is like a little miracle to me :)
big up funty. after working on drum tracks all weekend its nice to be reminded how much more work there is to do.
Thank you a lot, so informative!
And where we can take a look at EP01, where it supposed to be kicks, snares, bass ?!)
No fucking way! Big ups funtcase!
+K100 here you are again
*****
:)
Wow. I pride myself upon my fade techniques but it never occurred to me to overlap the fades so there isn't a break between effected samples! Mind blown. LoL. Dope stuff.
Finally someone I'm interested in! ;) FuntCase
I don't make drum and bass but the information in this video is so solid! I feel like a lot of young cats out there forget about the eqing! So clutch. Great tips on snare reinforcement. Props for that.
Super. Ich habe mir das GANZE Video angeschaut. einfacnice
Really enjoyed that. When's the second half of the video coming out?
Never expected this! Awesome! I'll give it a watch after college ^_^
Hey C*ntFace, do you master your own stuff as you go? I see your levels are pushed pretty hard, and it goes against everything that people say about producing... My levels are high and I try to mix & master as I go... even though it conflicts with what everybody says.
Super inspiring.
Ahhh! camera messed up around 34min and it doesn't show the EQ he's explaining:( juicy bit right there.
this is sick i love funtcase
Lol I've noticed Cubase users are very squirley and hyper with how they move around the daw... Virtual Riot is the same way zooming in and out and clicking and tapping quickly lol shoutout to yall
Cheers mate
lol its a habit of older cubase users, its hilarious to see in person. they dont know that they can hold ctrl+scroll wheel to zoom. legends though, theyre stupid fast
That setup looks expensive...
I think it's a fabfilter tutorial this video. :) by the way nice studio setup and this guy looks so calm and cool
+Onel Greece i cant lie, i use fabfilter for everything haha
Cool, but why FM didn't think to record the output is beyond me.
How is he moving around the arrangement screen with the hand that pops up. Is it a keyboard shortcut? I need to know this.
YES! i need to know it as well!!!! :o)
+Helmut Hirner using my mouse i press in the scroller, SO handy! :D
+FuntCaseUK < thx a lot, works perfect! ;D
+FuntCaseUK NIce one, cant believe i didn't know this.
very useful thanks!
could someone please tell me what Loopmasters sample pack he's talking about at 4:06? I couldn't get the name of the guy who made the pack, Smith or something?
+azfiu Drumsound & Bassline Smith
oh HELL YEAH!
you're here too🙆
thanks a bunch !!!
FUCKING LOVE FUNTCASE !!!! BIG UP TO ENGLISH DNB AND DUBSTEP!!!
who cares where the music is made??
um a lot of people
+mark boyle Can I please ask why?
they mite have a specific sound
mark boyle So just because the artist is from a certain part of the world, they have a different sounds? That might have applied 200 years ago, but since we now have internet that statement makes no sense.
Does anybody know which those monitor speakers are at the most right? With the triangle logo?
+Rick Versluis Trident HG3
Thanks for your reaction

I didn't know it had to be that specific. Thanks for the clarification. Sorry if I sounded like a smartass.
Does it matter that he's clipping a lot of these plugins..?
+kye903 nope
+kye903 only if there's audible distortion that sounds unsatisfactory
+kye903 it CAN.....but not the way hes doing it. why the hell he's without his mask? 😃
"Shouts to Carnage" 😂
Why am I just seeing this now WTF
Dat studio tho
What track is it?
Thanks :)
switch the f and c in his name
Funty
Why can't you play it for at least a couple of bars. Listening to those tiny fragments is f... annoying
+Kirk Monteux for real...
+Kirk Monteux Very true, i was quite nervous doing this so letting things play didn't actually cross my mind while making it. Apologies for that actually.
+FuntCaseUK Apology accepted
+Kirk Monteux do you even produce bro ?
+Yer Dah does that matter lol

+Alec Anderson why would you tho? i think vista isn't supported anymore and 7 is a minimum. dual boot with 10 will be alright
