  • This review is my experience with WOTANCRAFT's upgraded Pilot 7L shoulder bag. It's been a fantastic bag for my uses and has replaced my existing shoulder bags for most shoots.

    Been using this bag for several years as my travel camera bag. I shoot Fuji and love the compact size, light weight and versatility of Wotancraft bags (I also own the 3.5L and 2L).
    You did not mention one of the unique features of the 7L Pilot: The front zipper pocket is not inside the main compartment, but in a separate structure attached to the main body at top and bottom. The space between the two is a pass-through where you can carry items too long to fit inside the bag itself. You could carry a small tripod there, but I usually stuff a light jacket or raincoat through it. Furthermore, inside the pass-through is a hidden zipper compartment that is completely invisible from the outside where you can stash things like a passport or cash. No-one who is not familiar with the bag would ever find it.

    I have the 7L and the sling pouch and have been using them for quite a few years. I've actually had the 7L since they had the old shoulder pad, and I upgraded a few years ago. I love them both! I don't need any other bag unless it's a backpack.

    I’ll definitely check out Wotancraft now, hoping it’s not that expensive to ship to Mexico. At the very least, I’d like to get one of their straps to switch the one in my latest bag (a Bellroy Chimera sling). Glad I stumbled upon your video!

    Dylan,, this is very timely and a much appreciate review. I am starting to pick up photography again and despite switching from Nikon to a fuji system, I never took the time to update any of my lighting stuff.. I still have all of the Nikon speed lights and associate triggers I bought in Korea. I am looking for something that is compatible with my new gear and a simple bag to carry the gear with as I embark on my renewed interests in photography. I hope your amazon links are all affiliated links because I am going to start shopping soon.. Cheers to you for your efforts and your continued love for the photography profession.

      Hi! Thanks so much for your continued views! I don't know if you've seen my recent videos on my Tattoos of Asia project, but you'll get a fair idea of my love for the Godox AD200 in those... if that fits your needs, don't hesitate. It's a great light!

    My 3.5L has weathered a bit, the Cordura seems to suck dust and it becomes a bit greyish even with cleaning.
    I agree with your praise for the bag, the only issue I've had is the strap pad disintegrating and leaving black residue on my shirts. I got a replacement from their Taipei shop (which you should visit if you haven't, it's gorgeous and their stuff seems to be cheaper there), but the new one also started disintegrating after a few weeks. I've since replaced it with a Hakuba pad.

      That's a peril of black bags generally, I think. I haven't got a single bag that has remined black over the years. Everything from my FStop backpacks to my Think Tank Roller has taken on a grey tone after a while. As for the shoulder pad, I'm surprised to hear that. Six months of daily use and mine is still as good as new. Glad you found a solution, though.

    Can one of those extra optional pouches hold a water bottle? It would be great if rhey did. Been trying to find a small messenger that has soace fkrnanwatwr bottle with no luck yet. Could you clip one to the side rather than front?

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer
      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  10 дней назад

      You can only clip to the front, but they'd hold a smaller wateelr bottle, for sure.

    Hi Dylan, long time visitor. I'm almost considering this bag for my Fuji stuff. Question: I know the strap can be removed/reversed. I wear my shoulder/sling bags on my left hip, with the strap on my right shoulder, cross body. Will the strap length adjuster be functional or will it be upside down? Hard to visualize.

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer
      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  9 дней назад

      Hi! Thanks for watching. You'll have no issues at all wearing it cross body. The strap will work just as it otherwise would.

    Thanks Dylan. I typically carry a GFX100S, GF20-35 and GF35-70 as well as a small magnetic filter pouch and a spare card and battery. Would this work with the Wotancraft 7L? My current Lowepro shoulder bag is a bit too big and I'm looking for a replacement.

      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  12 дней назад +1

      Absolutely! I've had my GFX with the 110mm and 80mm in there just fine. It should be a good size for you.

    How do you clean the bag from dust and mud? I use regular cloth to clean Pilot but its fabric tend to attach to the bag.

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer
      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  5 дней назад +1

      Probably not the recommend way... I've just washed mine with the soft spray from a hose and let it dry in the sun. Might be worth reaching out to Wotancraft's tech support and seeing what they recommend.

    Isn't a shoulder bag harder on the body than a backpack? I've been using a small shoulder bag with added padding, but I realized that if I have it for a whole morning or afternoon, it just hurts.

    • @DylanGoldbyPhotographer
      @DylanGoldbyPhotographer  11 дней назад +2

      Potentially, but a whole lot more practical. Try walking through a corporate event with a backpack on or photographing a family and having to constantly take the bag off and put it on again. Backpacks are great for getting more weight to a specific spot and working out of there. They're not great when you need to have quick access to your gear and be on the move a lot. It's all about what your needs are.
