When I visited Singapore 20 years ago I met 2 people online when the internet was in its infancy, who went out of their way to be a host and take me around all over the place. One was a Malay woman the other was Chinese, both took time out of their day to hang with a foreigner, a black American. Nobody blinked an eye at me. Some children did stare, btw even small children take public transportation alone. There were Indian people I saw darker than any black person I’ve ever met so I don’t think skin color is the big deal people might imagine it to be in Singapore

I am so glad that I watched this video! The line, "never argue a person into a position that they didn't arrive to through reason", is a gem to survive a lifetime of lifetimes. Thank you!
I love Singapore! A country born out of racism (the Chinese driven from Malaysia), it has become a beautiful mosaic of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and many others. Much love and respect from someone who lived there for five years.
Delightful interview. Ranzo continues to shine a light on wonderful, educated, black people. It's been a while since I have been in Croydon. I heard Croydon is very hip now.
I love the environment where you do the interview, a nature where crickets chirp, birds singing and cars passing behind. Great combination of nature and modern.
Frederick Dorsey Probably with a brotha. I wonder how she would look with a Singaporean dude 😂. I can see her with a brotha though. If not, I won’t hate 🧔🏾.
I can say we are consider safe but doesn't mean no crimes. We are still improving as a country and still have lots of things to learn. Not perfect but we are trying hard. Everywhere you go,not only in Singapore,we will encounter friendly or nasty people. Relatively, I think my majority of Singaporeans are still friendly although we look busy and unfriendly in our appearance lol We welcome all foreigners or visitors to visit us!
Gurl, you need to meet more of the locals if you want critical debates and thinkings. And to all the blacks, just know that you’re more than welcome here in Singapore.
I am Singaporean & when I was in University in Australia, my best friends were Africans ...one from Zambia, one from Zimbabwe & one from Uganda. They were my sisters from another mother. So if any one from another race comes here, you will always be welcome. Singapore still has some people who are racists but that is why more races should come here to teach them that beyond the skin, we are all similar!
Another interesting interview...her experiences are a tad different then some of the others and gave me something to think about. Totally enjoyed meeting her. Thanks, Renzo.
Good to see my people have left London for Singapore, life is an adventure and we need to make the most of it. I left London in 1981 and haven't looked back since...life is short so make the most of it...This is a great interview and I am happy for this ambitious young lady and her husband.
DJ DreWills Nothing is wrong with london my friend, but sometimes you need a change in scenery; also America had better job opportunities and still does.
A fabulous interview about a city I've never considered until now. She was very transparent about her experiences as a black person in Singapore 🇸🇬. Love her hair.
Totally happy. It was so great to see her smile with delight and say "A dog" during the interview. You never see such lightness of heart here in America. Everyone is so weighed down by the necessity to keep on their "strong" armor that they seem to fear showing their soft, kind charming and human side.
I was surprised when she said people living in Singapore seem genuinely happy to be there. I know many people who are not absolutely happy but that also stems from so many just living in the bubble that Singapore provides. From my experience growing up in Singapore, there are pros and cons for sure. I used to not be as happy or appreciative of Singapore but now that I’m studying overseas, I do miss many aspects of Singapore.
NobleStar Lion Exactly, once I left Singapore, I realised I took so many things for granted 🤷🏻♀️ I never had to wait 20 minutes for a train before, and never had to put up with transport being delayed by more than 10 minutes (and this is happens almost weekly). Also, the fact that we don’t have to deal with natural disasters, riots of shootings. And how safe and clean Singapore is... also the cheaper hawker centre food. I often have to pay more than twice the price for a similar-sized meal. It’s sad that Singaporeans are unappreciative of Singapore 😔 and these people don’t deserve what our country is able to give us.
Just like the peoples who everyday complain and rant on the government, then end of day they voted for them instead. As a singaporean, you should be familiar with this trait .
These interviews are AWESOME!! Thank you. Roxie is AMAZING, her compasion, integrity and intuitiveness is a GIFT. The wisdom her husband shares with her is RIGHT ON and she shares it with us. Her proudest achievement starts around 12:39 and she states "It was more their achievement", yet using her GIFT helped them to achieve (against many odds). She is balanced - to understand that systematic oppression is universal, you can't change people but you can be HAPPY, walk in YOUR GIFT, and enjoy life. Beautiful story, keep living it well and THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
Hi there, stumbled onto this video by accident. Realised it was taken in June 2019, a few months before the world went into a Covid tailspin. It's two years on now, not sure if you're still here in SG, Roxie. But from us to you, here's wishing you well and thank you for walking part of your journey in life with us.
As always great work, however there is a noise in the video’s background that got a lot my attention between the 10:00 and the final minutes. .Did you notice? Maybe I am too sensitive...
I actually visited Singapore several times while I served in the U.S. Navy. As the young lady in the video stated, it is one of the cleanest places in the world. Little known fact, the Republic of Singapore is an island city-state in Southeast Asia. The food is delicious and diverse with dishes from India, Malaysia, China, etc. Laws can be very strict here and littering is definitely frowned upon. That said, I never noticed a lot of crime. Overall, it's a beautiful country and I would love to visit again in the future.
Almost forgot to give praise to you for another wonderful interview. Also the interviewee was very insightful and articulate, you could feel how much she enjoys living there. Well done!
Just wandered into this by accident, and I'm glad I did. It was illuminating and interestingly liberating listening to the pretty offer her genuine opinions about the Singapore culture and people. Love it.
Great interview I hope we continue to see people for the content of their character instead of the color of their skin and make judgements. Also getting to learn about the cultures around the world is the best thing we can do for growth as a human being.
Do it!!! The more black people move to foreign countries, the more black barbers are needed. I know here in Vietnam, every time a new black persons moved here, the first thing they ask is where is the black barber (or best barber for black hair) and black hairstylist.
I visited Singapore and enjoyed it. yes, it is expensive but i kept my belly full in Little India, Chinatown, and a few other places. Now I'm back in Korea to live and it is just so crazy how the number one thing other foreigners (especially black ones like myself) say that it is safer and they are happier. It is a very freeing feeling not to have to worry about the kinds of things I worried about back in New York
There are some cheaper alternatives when it comes to food. Anyway, glad that you enjoyed your stay here and we look forward to welcome you anytime to visit us again! Stay safe.
@John Buffalo I am 97Correction. Anglos colonised, enslaved nations, they did not gave freedom. The nations fought for their independence. And Anglos did not taught culture, the various ethnic groups retained their own culture. Anglos only taught their language and laws which helped those countries in laying the foundation for their development, and access to the Western world
@John Buffalo I am 97 you anglos have 0 culture but use black culture and appropriate it! We were all fine in Africa before you stole us and enslaved us bigot! So now were just claiming the freedom what you capped!Oh and if you dont have anything good to say, just be a silent fan..boy bye😏
I rrrrrrrrrrrrreally want to go to Singapore, I could imagine myself living there. This makes me feel more excited. Also I loved everything she had to say. I definitely appreciate the police in the UK, I know that racial profiling is a problem but I respect how they've tried to keep our country safe.
Dont come for long because Singapore is boring.... as fuck... but it is pretty safe. efficient, safe and boring.... visit Singapore for maybe 3 days at most and then hope onto Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia for a richer asian experience. I am Singaporean and a lot of our POI are very commercialized, i guess that is ok if you are into that sort of thing
I often see expat wives when I join volunteering projects in Singapore. It is good to know that many find meanings in contributing to the local communities even if they do not actually work here. It's great to find an expat group to talk about things that you are familiar with, but volunteering lets you see the underlying social issues in each city which you can even be part of the solution.
Welcome to Singapore! If you stay here longer, I am sure you will notice most of the people you meet wouldn’t ‘realize’ or ‘notice’ you are black. I think we are becoming color blind 😜
The police will only put a crime sign board when they need any witness that saw the incident or accident to come forward to assist the police with information.Overall Singapore police has done a great job as you know so many places are fitted with CCTV,it kinda help the police with their investigations.
Well done, Girl. I was once at ClayQuay and BoatQuay, and ate at Raffles......Thank you BEJ. Singapore is the best city that I have been to. The people are awesome, and cannot be compared to other people types.
The reason Singapore people do not complain about their government is that they like it. If you take a survey, will find that approx 98% are content with their life. Good health care, education, ability to buy a house/condo etc.
Don Riller The difference, to me, is that White Westerners don’t want to be called immigrants as it sounds like something ascribed to poor migrants or migrants of color who migrate to western countries. It’s a status thing. They like to change the meaning of words in order to affect perception and dissociate themselves from things they don’t want to unite with or be responsible for. That’s my take.
Sorry and sad to have a negative person replying you. Majority Singaporeans are friendly and welcoming foreigners and visitors coming in here. Peter Chew is just another negativity person.
@@peterchew4018 All heartlands got green areas, there are trees, parks, even reservoirs etc. Like in Punggol with their waterways. And they are clean even if there are still minority of people who litters the environment.
Regarding your hair question. That was funny and it remained me one time one of my ssupervior asked me why are people from Africa are fast runners? And I told him it is because we have to run away from lions. I thought he would figure out that it was just a joke, believe it or not 15 minutes later everyone at work started to sympathies to me and asking if it is that bad in africa? They thought I was a refugee free animals lol. I could never forget that. And by the way, he was from Chicago.
I used to tell the same lies especially as a Kenyan and I stopped because people legitimately believed that I could swim across the ocean to get to their country and not that we also have planes...
@@blessedcheflim8579 I may be out of my lane to speak on this issue but it's the internet and I'm doing so genuinely and I am not claiming to be right. The sprints are dominated by black people from Jamaica USA and to a lesser extent UK, Canada and other Carribean nations. Back in the colonial days, the strongest built were taken from their homes to be enslaved in the west. Those genes were of course passed down to generations to follow. Genetics alone does not make a champion automatically. Dedication and hardwork is required. Due to bias hiring practices, people of colour will have to work much harder for the same opportunities (IMO up to 90s before we saw improvement). Likewise to get into the best colleges, you need $$$. Since the black community did not have the same disposable income the ones who did have these genetic gifts used it to their advantage to get in and secure higher education. Not that they don't have the intellect to get in on their own merit, it was/is the crappy situation that the worse of humanity helped create. As for the long distances, Kenyans and Ethopians dominate I'm guessing have to due with climate and cuisine - this one I'm not as confident in my theory. Sorry to anyone who may be offended by this, it's not my intent and would like to be corrected if I'm way off.
Visited Singapore (and Malaysia) once with my ex who was a native Singaporean. She was mixed race (Malay/Indian) and identified as Malay but had a phenotype that would fit in many places. As I am West Indian most times she was mistaken for a Trinidadian dougla (Black/East Indian mix), Brazilian, Guyanese, etc. Anyhow She warned me that some Chinese people wouldn't know how to take me but Malays would be cool. We initially stayed at her uncle's flat in the Hougang area. I ate like a pig from the street hawkers: Roti prata every morning. After an extended trip to Johor Bahru, a small town named Kota Tinggi and then an even teenier town named Mersing, we ended up checking into the Grand Hyatt on Orchard Road. I was treated wonderfully there and the staff kissed my ass as if I were someone important, perhaps they thought I was a footballer or a cricketer. They apologized profusely on the lack of grand suites available (I never asked for one) and actually advised me which of the hotel restaurants to avoid so that I would not have to associate with the common riff raff. The g/f actually felt out of place there and said "that is not how we are treated". I told her , "It's because you're with Sooopa Doopa honey!" I didn't really get what she was saying until we were queuing up for a taxi out front. A Chinese taximan pulled up, took one look at me and then drove over to the other queue where a white couple was waiting. It was so blatant and so much like the US I was in shock. I heard a couple of gasps from the people behind me as well. The hotel staff member who was managing the taxis was a Malay guy turned and looked at me with a look of shock on his face, shook his head and said, "I'm so sorry sir. I'm so sorry. We cannot control these taxi drivers. I'm, so sorry". The look he gave me was the identical look that I might get from a black person who had just witnessed a racial incident. He then then physically directed another car to me. That is about the worst part of the trip. Other than that, great people, great nightlife, great food. I even did the obligatory Hainanese from the Mandarin Oriental but was steered away Geyland as well as the Orchard Towers and its 4 Floors of Whores. lol I could definitely live in Singapore. I sure as hell got used to Singaporean English and their excessive use of "la". It was endearing
Insightful video, however the part about where she talks about our political situation is not so. We don't discuss our political opinions so much with foreigners unless we get to know them better. Especially when our way of governance (although derived from colonial roots) is markedly different from that of the West. Again it is stereotypical to label our government as "oppressive" without living here for a long time. We do have more restrictions than the UK, but at least things work in our country and we are comfortable.
I'm totally agree with Roxie! Singapore is one of the few places where people of all races and colours can live happily together. Singapore is a melting pot of all major religions and languages that coexist with harmony. People are friendly and society is safe from crime. I'm glad to watch your RUclips channel. Singapore is a country that mainstream media of other countries did not cover story for viewers to show them there's a place where all races live happily together in harmony. You're doing the world a good deed. Please spread to the world there's a paradise tropical island called Singapore, invite them to experience.
I want to visit Singapore. Had no idea. So pretty, modern, clean streets seen from the drone videos on You Tube... beautiful. Chewing gum is out law there. Learned from a walking tour video of Singapore.
That's good to know. Singapore has a rep among asian countries as being cold and a robotic soceity. When i briefly went there, i noticed that the rules are strict, but the ppl are actually nice.
There is a very nice Vegan/ Vegetarian (not sure if it's the same) LAKSA. It's at Blk 22A Toa Payoh Lor 7 Kim Keat Palm Food Centre Singapore 310022. Go try it. It's really recommended. Cannot remember the stall no.

@@Jblah Let me guess, you're Malaysian.
@@TMYKStudio Malaysian Malay
Sorry to break it to you half of the movie was shot in Malaysia. Tell that to your mum.
@@Jblah tell that to the Orang Asli
The police will only put a crime sign board when they need any witness that saw the incident or accident to come forward to assist the police with information.Overall Singapore police has done a great job as you know so many places are fitted with CCTV,it kinda help the police with their investigations.
she has the most beautiful smooth skin
I think I would like to visit Singapore. I think it's a nice place.
Well done, Girl. I was once at ClayQuay and BoatQuay, and ate at Raffles......Thank you BEJ. Singapore is the best city that I have been to. The people are awesome, and cannot be compared to other people types.
Wow! This lady got features of a fashion model ! She oozes attraction.
The reason Singapore people do not complain about their government is that they like it. If you take a survey, will find that approx 98% are content with their life. Good health care, education, ability to buy a house/condo etc.
I love the part where you teased the Singaporean about your hair. So cute.
her speaking voice is very pleasant and very interesting to hear about singapore from a 6 month expat
Don Riller
The difference, to me, is that White Westerners don’t want to be called immigrants as it sounds like something ascribed to poor migrants or migrants of color who migrate to western countries. It’s a status thing. They like to change the meaning of words in order to affect perception and dissociate themselves from things they don’t want to unite with or be responsible for. That’s my take.
Great interview. Thanks for sharing.
I just love the sound of her voice.
Beautiful woman. Mesmerized. ❤
Your hair is beautiful, would love to visit Singapore one of these days.
Singapore was too nice lol I loved it
Sorry but most locals tend to disagree...stay longer & l am pretty sure you might want to change your thoughts
Peter Chew lol don’t change the fact that it was nice and I had a good time. There’s no reason to go longer than a week.
@@JayAgave dont worry, complaining is a Singaporean past time, especially with those sheltered ones who have never lived abroad.
Sorry and sad to have a negative person replying you.
Majority Singaporeans are friendly and welcoming foreigners and visitors coming in here.
Peter Chew is just another negativity person.
Glad that you had enjoyed your stay here.
❤❤❤❤❤❤ Amazing I love your interviews ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
God she's beautiful not just love her accent I can listen to her talk all day okay back to the video
I've never seen a cleaner/greener place during my visit years ago.
G.Warren...go to the heartlands & then tell us lf its cleaner/greener . Better still ask the folks living outside the City
@@peterchew4018 Like where?
Am fr Singapore. By the way, whats the reason that black ppl can run so fast ? DNA ? Tks
@@blessedcheflim8579 I think they train in the desert. Its hot like hell beneath the feet, so they run like hell Hahahahaha
OMG😃! Me too.
Very inspirational video :)
Amazing interview, and thank you for giving White Label Records a shout out :)
Just goofing love the video series!!
Shes beautiful
Great interview...very enlightening. Would have loved to hear more about what makes their housing so unique.
You are inspiring to fellow ladies! 💪
She is so beautiful and nonchalant
Off subject of the video but what color do you use on your hair? Your locs are beautiful.
I told her , "It's because you're with Sooopa Doopa honey!"
I didn't really get what she was saying until we were queuing up for a taxi out front. I even did the obligatory Hainanese from the Mandarin Oriental but was steered away Geyland as well as the Orchard Towers and its 4 Floors of Whores. lol
I could definitely live in Singapore. I sure as hell got used to Singaporean English and their excessive use of "la". It was endearing
@Akmal Ahmad Black
Good thing you stayed away from Orchard Towers. A murder just happened there a week ago, you can see it on RUclips actually
Stay out of Asia boy. You re not welcome.
BEJ Just Keeps Getting Better!
I want to visit Singapore. Had no idea. So pretty, modern, clean streets seen from the drone videos on You Tube... beautiful. Chewing gum is out law there. Learned from a walking tour video of Singapore.
Hi warm welcome!! Hugs, I am a Singaporean glad you like the stay.
That's good to know. Singapore has a rep among asian countries as being cold and a robotic soceity. When i briefly went there, i noticed that the rules are strict, but the ppl are actually nice.
She seems to be a person that has the skills to get things done. 😍
Great point made. If your joke doesn't come from experience, it's not funny.
Not really true. It is the perception of the audience. If what you say is true, yet the audience think otherwise, then it will fail miserably.
You can actually chew gum in Singapore or bring gum into Singapore but you are not allowed to sell it
Have you guy had the chance to travel around Easy Asia? Or is your show mainly focused on Japan?
Welcome to Singapore.
I'm curious. She studying law, so is English the main business language utilized in Singapore? I know they have several official languages.
English is widely used. It's one of the 4 official languages.
You are correct. English is the main business language in Singapore.
