I think it's kind of poetic. In the movie the matchmaker told her 'You may look like a bride but you will never bring your family honor!' while she was wearing that. Then she disguised herself as a man to join the army, was soon found out, and helped to defeat the Huns and also took down Shan yu. Not in her disguise as Ping, but as a girl. To me it seems right that she's shown the most often in that outfit because she proved not only the matchmaker wrong, but she also proved it to herself as well.
As a former Cast Member, a priceless piece of advice I can give for looking for rare characters is to check in at the International Gateway entrance to Epcot. It's an unofficial Meet And Greet location used somewhat infrequently for Cast Members in training to get comfortable with their characters and their interactions with guests. It can also be used as a testing ground for lesser known characters. Ive seen characters of all shapes and sizes. You'll never know who you can find!

The kingdom hearts part gave me the chills. Disney doesn’t embrace KH as much as they should!
I don't think it's so much that they don't embrace them as much as they technically need Square-Enix's permission to use non-Disney characters. Disney can use Donald and Goofy, since they own the characters, but Sora is owned by Square-Enix. So really you can blame Square-Enix for not seeing him or Riku or the others. Plus that Sora was a bit creepy and next time they should definitely go with a human in costume.
@@MajorTeag "The [Kingdom Hears] series' legal ownership has long been debated amongst fans; this is due to the fact that the game features Disney characters but is created and primarily promoted by Square Enix, as well as featuring cameos by characters from the latters own franchises.
Square Enix only takes credit for developing and publishing the games, not owning them. Following this will be a series of copyright laws containing SE's Ownership of the FF Characters and FF Music used in the games. Square Enix does not own the Kingdom Hearts games, nor its original characters. They take credit for making the games, and owning the Final Fantasy Characters/Music used in said games.
The definitive response is that Square Enix only takes credit for developing and co-publishing the Kingdom Hearts series (similar to that of Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse being developed by Sega and DuckTales being developed by Capcom), while Disney owns the series and all original characters and settings. Therefore, Sora, Riku, Kairi, Xehanort, Chirithy, the Organization XIII members, and so forth are solely owned by the Walt Disney Company.
This ownership is established in the title screen of each Kingdom Hearts entry. It has also been explained vocally by John Vignocchi, VP of Production for the Disney Infinity game series during an interview following D23 Expo 2015, in regards to Kingdom Hearts franchise characters' possible inclusion in Disney Infinity. He indicated that they consult Square Enix out of respect when considering using Kingdom Hearts elements. For instance, prior to the release of the King Mickey power-up disc, the Disney Infinity team had been in talks with Square Enix for 8 months, discussing ways to implement it while being "respectful to the brand".
All Square Enix characters and elements (i.e. Final Fantasy and The World Ends With You characters) are still the sole property of Square Enix.
Along with Sora and all original characters owned solely by Disney, this also classifies them as Disney characters, having been created for a Disney game/Disney product."
@@JSeedProductions Yeah, it is sorta sticky though as Square-Enix could claim ownership and take them to court. It really depends on who can actually claim to have created the actual character. No matter the result, it would cost tons of money and neither side wants to pay, so it's easier just to not use the character. Again, it may not happen that way, but Disney isn't willing to take that chance.
Hey, if the Kingdom Hearts Tv series is able take off the ground and be made for Diseny Plus and becomes more successful with non- rpg- gamers maybe diseny will be more willing.

I’ll never forget meeting Kida and Milo in California Adventure way back when. I adored Atlantis! I am still constantly wishing they’d make Esmeralda a more frequent face again. She’s one of my favorites, I miss her so much.😭
Very disappointing that Pacha is not featured among the rest of The Emperor’s New Groove characters.

Jim Hawkins from _Treasure Planet_ would be a welcome addition. He's been sighted a few times at Disneyland Paris (Fandaze), but I'd love to see him included at Disneyland CA. The _Atlantis_ crew as well!

I'm sure someone mentioned this but Pete, the character older than Mickey and has been his adversary for over 90 years, does not have a SINGLE costume.

He appears at the train station as you exit the Magic Kingdom on the Villains (read "pay for extra hard ticket event") nights right now...but he (and the other villains) don't do meet and greets. Instead, the face characters (I saw Gaston, Cinderella's stepmother and step sisters, as well as Cruella de Vil) make comments in character about the guests as they are leaving. Bowler Hat Guy, Captain Hook, and two other non-face characters I can't remember right now just move around and motion with their arms.

You should do a part 2 for Rare Disney Park Characters or even some that are retired. I remember Flower from Bambi used to meet guests at Walt Disney World and Disneyland between the early 1960's till the late 1970's along with Thumper. Luckily, Thumper was able to return to meeting guests along with his mate Miss Bunny around 2006. Sadly, Flower hasn't returned anywhere else.
I think Thumper comes out seasonally for Easter. I saw him at a Meet-And-Greet at Disneyland during Spring Break a few years ago.

With Gaston being as popular as he is at WDW (particularly with adults), I'm surprised he's not at Disneyland, too. Or Hercules for that matter.
Kinda wish they'd make his meet and greets longer or more frequent through the day.. it was 30 minutes once a day when I went and I never caught him!
Another tidbit about the Kingdom Hearts characters: a couple had gotten married aboard a disney cruise liner and were avid fans of kingdom hearts. A special thing the cruise lines do is fulfill a request made by the happy couple. The couple asked if any kingdom hearts characters could show up in celebration. And Low and behold, Donald and Goofy in their kingdom hearts outfits showed up.
But there was a bit of worrying info released around the same time. When Donald and Goofy were introduced, the announcer introducing them stated this would be the *last chance to meet these versions of the character*
Whether or not this means the kingdom hearts characters are retired or not is unknown, but if any more content from the franchise comes out, I wouldn't be surprised to see them again.

I saw Max at Plaza Inn in Disneyland. So hes quite common.

I would say the Hercules gang and Nemo + Marlin are definitely rare characters too.
I actually got the chance to see Nemo and Marlin in Disneyland's (now removed) Paint the Night parade!
I did not expect Kingdom Hearts, but am pleasantly delighted. ☺️

I would do literally anything to meet everyone from Emperor’s New Groove. SUCH an underrated movie ❤️
Idk why they just don’t keep every character? That way, employment will always be needed to expand more characters and the park will feel even more magical.
They can't. They cycle through characters so long as the franchise they're from is popular. The mains - Mickey & Friends, the Disney Princesses (and their Princes & corresponding villains) and the primary characters from the Disney Classic films, plus the characters tied to enduring popular attractions like PotC (Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow & Redd [also called Scarlett in one of the earlier movie homages to the source ride] of "We wants the redhead!" fame) & Haunted Mansion - stay because they have legacies that will never, ever be broken.
Otherwise, the other parts of the parks are being overtaken by PIXAR, Star Wars & Marvel. Those not part of the growing expansion of the theme parks are usually only there for a limited run just because their feature film just released (the majority of these "Long-Lost Friends" characters usually relate to a film put out during either Disney's Dark Age [the "Package" films, Wartime Propaganda cartoons, _The Aristocats_ , _Robin Hood_ , _The Rescuers_ , _The Black Cauldron_ & _Oliver and Company_ since Disney likes to say _The Little Mermaid_ capped off the Disney Renaissance in 1989 & only the _Winnie the Pooh_ characters came out of that time period relatively unharmed, thanks to the success of the various forms of programming & tie-in merchandise regarding Christopher Robin Milne's stuffed toys, the various proceeds for which not only go to Disney itself, but also go to assist the real life Christopher Robin's disabled daughter Clare Milne since she suffers from cerebral palsy, not to mention possibly covertly helping Sussex, England volunteers maintain the upkeep of Ashdown Forest aka the REAL 100 Acre Wood so it can remain a British national treasure for diehard Pooh fans worldwide] or during the 2000's when Disney was putting less focus on its theme parks & film divisions in favor of churning out unwatchable teenybopper drivel that older Disney fans lambasted at every turn because those shows suck to the point that even Uncle Walt's nephew Roy E. Disney himself hated The Disney Channel's forced reliance on that stuff, so much so that he quit the company his uncle & father began for the final time just ahead of both him & Wayne Allwine - Mickey's 3rd voice actor, who was also his longest running voice actor, too - both passing away seemingly within mere weeks or months of each other in 2009, never mind that the smarter ex-child stars emanating from this hot mess garbage removed themselves from the celebrity mainstream & rightfully so because the dark side of child star fame would take them & turn them into troubled cases like Britney Spears [particularly in 2007 when she became the paparazzi's favorite broken celebrity target], Lindsey Lohan [like Nickelodeon's Amanda Bynes, Lindsey Lohan was another redhead child star caught up with the seedy partying lifestyle of celebrity superstardom that nearly destroyed her entire livelihood], Justin Bieber [the high-pitched wannabe Aaron Carter is banned from the parks for life for hitting "the boss" Mickey Mouse below the belt like an idiotic doofus] & Miley Cyrus [her twerking "Wrecking Ball" phase with corresponding questionable concert outfits destroyed the very illusion Hannah Montana created, although to be fair, Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire did the whole "average teenager living a double life as a chart-topping musical pop sensation" shtick far better than Billy Ray Cyrus's rebellious daughter ever did, even though the Hannah Montana series on The Disney Channel did sort of rejuvenate his own one-hit-wonder "Achy Breaky" career to a degree by allowing him to essentially play himself on-screen] have all become following their times working for Disney) or just because their syndicated TV series is brief but successful on ABC, The Disney Channel, Disney XD, et al (meaning, anything from The Disney Afternoon, Disney's One Saturday Morning, ABC Kids & Jetix).

Id be too much. Also knowing a rare character might show up at a special event drives up sales. Like disney has so many characters and id would actually be difficult staff wise to have all those people employed. The break room would be hell. Youd get people complaining if the characters spread out to the starwars part and same with the pixar part

Hercules is my favorite movie and honestly Megara’s sassy self is just so fun to interact with
I remember a long time ago when my family and I visited Disneyland Paris, we saw the three hyenas there. This little kid was so determined to get an autograph from them but since they can’t write anything, due to the paws not being able to, they just kept swatting the book out of the kids’ hands while looking like they were laughing. The poor little kid kept picking the book back up and insisted on trying to get one from them, having no clue they couldn’t write. So they kept swatting the book out the kids’ hands until the parents either finally caught on or gave up. It was hilarious and kind of sad to see the kids’ sole determination for those autographs. (I can’t remember if it was a little boy or girl).

One character duo I'd love to meet would be Koda & Kenai from Brother Bear. They were at the Canada pavilion at Epcot for a long time but were taken away i think in 2016? Although i heard Koda was making appearances at a dance celebration in Adventure Land at Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

There was that one time, when I first visited Disneyland, where I stayed at the Grand Californian Hotel. On one of the mornings that I stayed, me and my mother went to the Chip and Dale-themed breakfast. Now, while one of the two chipmunks were not present that day, which managed to baffle me, as the themed breakfast CLEARLY showed both of them in the ads, I managed to see Meeko and Kenai. Whether or not Koda was present is something I don't know. Anyway, I wanted to get their autographs, but my mom thought they could only sign by using pawprints, which makes some sense if you think about it.
That, and, on my second trip, I learned how to properly salute like an American by Captain America himself, after kow-towing like a Japanese citizen by mistake, and I held up a proper conversation with Spider-Man about how Sony still has his movie rights, and why his portion of the Marvel-themed meet-and-greet stand is the way it is.
So, yeah, I heavily approve of sharing stories about seeing obscure walk-around Disney characters at the parks, purely from personal experiences.
When I was younger and I went to Disney World with my family there’s a picture of my brother and I with Koda.

@@InvaderDusk Well in that case I might have something else to look forward to when I eventually go on vacation there, lol. I looked it up on many websites and they all said he was a pretty rare character, or no longer doing meet and greets, so I assumed he was pretty rare
I was at California Adventure a week and a half ago (on July 20th), and asked (because we want to meet him too), and they said he'd been meeting people that morning. Going back in a couple of weeks, hope to meet him this time. He's my younger kid's favourite character too.
I wish they'd bring the 90's characters out more often, as a almost 26 yr old I know when we go to the parks these special characters from our childhood really make us feel like little kids again. :(
I mean, Everytime I go to Disney, I never see Dr Facilier and he's my favorite Disney villain (with the exception of Hades) so I kinda get super bummed Everytime I go. Dr Facilier is so underrated :(
Ursula is The Rarest Disneyland character I know. And she's not even Meet-and-greet. She was however in a Halloween Parade, probably as a parade float, and she waved to everyone with one hand and she had a golden rolled up contract in the other. 🐙
She walked around in some of the parades in the past though.

I feel like Ping making an appearance in the park makes more sense than Mulan in her matchmaker costume. Ping is the character I’d rather see, for sure, considering that disguising herself is what made her famous/inspirational.

Back in the early 2000’s Ping, Kronk and Yzma used to all have a regular meet and greet area over in California adventures near the animation academy. I miss seeing them at California adventures 😩
I would kill to see Max as Powerline. I thought that park character was just a myth until I watched this, and now, I need to see him in person. To say that A Goofy Movie holds a special place in our hearts is a huge understatement!

Last year, at the age of 21, I was finally able to go to Disney world. I had never expected Disney to be so giant and have so much land! Anything I had ever originally thought about Disney flew out the window the moment I stepped foot off the bus. I still don't even know where any of these places are and where most of these characters would pop up. The Kingdom Hearts costumes for Donald and Goofy look absolutely adorable. I'm glad they put effort into them!

They did a fun little festival with all of the Hunchback characters in Disneyland for a little while after the movie was released. I agree with a few other comments asking for more Disney Afternoon characters! Don Karnage is a personal favorite, and I know there were Gummi Bears characters there for a while too.

Song of the South won't happen for, well, obvious reasons. They try to distance the ride from that as much as they can.

Emperor’s new groove is one of the best Disney movies to me ever. I’ve gone back several times as an adult to rewatch and it’s one of the few Disney movies that has me cracking up the entire time lol
Loved this! There is a great parade video on youtube from an event at Disneyland Paris - all filled with rare characters. From Bolt to Treasure Planet to Meet the Robinsons etc. Really great to see some less used characters in a parade!

I rarely take pictures with characters anymore but if Disney made Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Mickey regulars then I'd be taking photos every visit. I still get upset knowing they were here in Orlando and I missed it.
