John A Macdonald gets memory-holed

  • Historica Canada, an organization once dedicated to documenting Canadian history, has quietly deleted its 'Heritage Minute' about John A Macdonald's role in Confederation, citing "feedback from educators" and his supposed "controversy" as an historical figure.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Conservatives were decimated in yesterday's election while President Joe Biden seems to mistake Independence Day for Christmas.
Plus, Justin Trudeau is skipping this year's Calgary Stampede - perhaps to avoid another pancake blunder like last year - and University of Toronto anti-Israel protesters cut and run before police had a chance to remove them.
These stories and more on Off the Record with Andrew Lawton, Harrison Faulkner and Rachel Parker!

Both sides are controlled by the blue bloods. Just study the history of the executive branch, attorney generals office, and judiciary. Add a Sir to the surnames and see the history we were not taught. Sir Sam Hughes, and"architect for a New world John Ewart" and "John Ewart, Eleven generations" for example. Post your research on the Internet Archive. Wake up people. They own and control the media and jnternet narrative, even school curriculum.

Rachel has it right, I wish Alberta had never joined confederation. Had Alberta and Saskatchewan remained independent and joined force, we would be a powerful, wealthy nation. Instead, we're dragged down by eastern elite who syphon everything out of the west to buy votes in central and eastern Canada and keep putting up road blocks to impede growth. I'm sure NFLD also wishes they had never joined Canada.

There was no mention, or as good as none, of the Russo-Ukrainian War in the discussion of the UK general election, although it was surely worth a mention. This was in striking contrast with the Daniel Davis / Deep Dive show, which had an entire episode yesterday devoted to it, “British Labour Party Wins BIG w/Ian Puddick in UK.” There is a long discussion of the Russo-Ukrainian War starting about the 20 minute mark of the episode:
    ruclips.net/video/h31cBZOZwh8/видео.html
In one sense, the right in the UK is much like the right in Canada on this issue. In the UK the Conservatives and the Labour Party are part of one big NATO warmongering Russophobic Uniparty while a new Conservative splinter party, the Reform Party, takes the position that NATO provoked Russia to invade Ukraine and that more effort must be made to negotiate a peace settlement. In Canada, the Liberal and Conservative Parties are part of one big NATO warmongering Russophobic Uniparty while a Conservative splinter party, the People’s Party of Canada, takes a much more robust anti-war stance than the UK Reform Party, calling for Canada to cease all of its military aid to Ukraine. Regrettably, while Reform has won five seats in the 2024 election, it seems unlikely based on current polling that the PPP will win any seats in the next federal election, partly due to the Canadian media, including True North, largely ignoring it.
Liz Truss, very briefly UK PM during the last five years of Conservative rule, lost her own seat of Norfolk South West by a narrow margin, a seat she had won by more than 26 thousand votes in the last election and that had been Conservative consistently from 1964 forward. It was the largest vote swing in an election loss in British history. No-one blames her stance on the Russo-Ukrainian War for her loss. Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Seymour Hersch did not implicate the UK government when he accused US President Joe Biden, not yet a vegetable at that point in his regime, along with the Norwegian government, of blowing up the Nordstream 1 and 2 pipelines. However, it seems that Truss, Prime Minister at the time, sent a message to unindicted war criminal Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, a minute after the explosions, with the question: “It’s done?” So one can take a certain Schadenfreude in her loss, the first ever for someone who had served as Prime Minister in the last Parliament in the UK since Labour MP Ramsay MacDonald in 1935. MacDonald lost his seat just months after resigning as Prime Minister.
The day before this episode, Russian forces seized part of the town of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk oblast, part of a general forward advance by Russian forces. Pace Nigel Farage, the Reform Party leader, there is no stalemate in the war. The Russians are definitely winning. The sneer that they annexed four oblasts in 2022 that they don’t fully control becomes less valid week by week, and it is really the Russian territorial gains in these oblasts that are relevant. They don’t aspire to occupy all of Ukraine. True North takes no interest in such events, and sadly probably never will do so.
