@@LukeParon hey I have a problem. I live in Latvia and there are no libraries anywhere in my country that support this app. Do you know any way of getting a library card from other countries without visiting them?
Thanks for this, Audible is really expensive and I am out of work right now so this is a great alternative for me and many others who are on a budget. Granted the selection is not as good, but it is a free service so that's to be expected. But there is still a ton of content available and it is all free. I found audio books at my library that were going for like 30-40 bucks on audible that I was able to listen to for free.
Hey, words aren’t enough to express my gratitude to you. Just discovered my library (New Zealand) has 22k audio books in there via libby. Although most of these are fiction, which I don’t read/listen but still there are hundreds of non-fiction books many of which, I’m sure, would be of my interest. Thanks man
Sometimes if you read a older fiction book it feels a lot like a historical non fiction book...in terms of feeling.. Because it may have a fictional plot, but the setting, attitude of society, the technology and the story, and the food they eat, it's like the this is how those historical figures we read about live their daily lives.. It's worth listening to just a couple of the classics. It's a lot different reading about the napoleonic wars when you can read the fiction and stories written by people who were living through that history
When I signed up for audible, (just to get one specific book), I didn't realize I wasn't going to be able to download it. ...so basically, always have to have internet access and always have to maintain a membership. I would not have joined if I had realized. My bad, I needed to research more, but honestly it never even occurred to me that I wasn't purchasing, just renting. Thanks for giving me the push I needed to cancel my membership.
I've been doing it for years. I used to live in America and got a library card. But 10 years on I can still use my American library card in Ireland so the great thing is it's not geoblocked if you use your American library card in Europe. I tend to buy audiobooks that are over 20 hours long from audible because it will just take me too long to get through the whole thing and it would mean I would have to constantly keep renewing the book and sometimes you have to wait to be able to get the book re assigned to you again as other people are waiting. The issue with Libby is that it only allows you to borrow for between 7 to 21 days and if the book is very long, that may not be enough time. That's when purchasing the book is better. But it is great for books that are around 10 hours long.
The Lord of the Rings he has reserved is an ebook. On Libby, audiobooks say ‘play sample’, his LOTR said ‘read sample’. It also does not have the same audiobooks as Audible, just a much smaller selection.
Thank you dear... I am not living in US. I created an online membership with Newyork Public Library in 2 minutes by giving US address, got a Library Card and registered in the app, all in 5 minutes. Edit:- The membership expired after 15 days for not producing necessary documents...😪
Thank you so much for showing me this, I survive on a low income right now and Audibles 15$/month plus the 20$ plus per book is a bridge too far for me right now, but this is perfect for me.
I really enjoy audiobooks at work, but I am wanting to move down to a dumb phone. I just bought a cat 22 flip phone, but already I can tell it might still be too advanced. I want a DUMB phone. Like no google bullshit. No apps. So I am wondering how I can get audiobooks without, needing to be plugged in to the matrix. I honestly wish they just had cds or casettes? I mean old cds had a way to go to different songs which is the same as a chapter? So if I had a cd of an audiobook surely I could still switch between chapters?
This is awsome, just signed up online and got my library eCard instantly. I've already started reading a book and have a few on hold. This is an awesome service. So glad I found your video.
I have a library card at Huntington beach library. Libby doesn't have this library but hoopla does. The problem with hoopla though is their selection is very limited.
Your awesome, been listening to free audio books for years, never a paid subscriber as too costly n not just right. Will be visiting my library ASAP n check out your sites, thanks again.... just hope they don't pump in lots commercials, will see....
Love your channel!!! ❤ bro you are super legit no sugar coating and you definitely are up front no extra talk you get right to the point im def telling all my friends and sharing you on my posts!!!! 😊 have a happy new year 🎉🎉
Thank you so much I am trying to get back into reading and this video help me in getting books for free because audible is so expensive it makes you not want to read but you help me continue wanting to read free is always better
Are you saying the audiobooks when searching are from audible and not the local library? Also, it takes me about 2 months to listen to an audiobook and I don't think they will allow me to take it on loan for that long. I thought this video was a way to download audible for free.
The library sucks half the books that you want they don't have the other half you wait 10 weeks for I want to read a book I want to read it now not 10 weeks from now. Plus the available audiobooks are very few.
How do I get an access to a library in India. And what if I do not have an access to a public library like at all!! Sadly, not all of us are from first world
Shoot I was hoping to be able to upload audiobooks from Liby or Hoopla to Audible, or at least into my own folder & I had thought this is where you were going, but where there is a will there is way lol .. Great post thank you!
We support the library through our taxes. So not really "totally" free but yes, the library is a great resource which we should leverage to its fullest, including of course, audio books. 🎉
This video’s title is misleading. It’s about borrowing audiobooks, not getting them to keep. Even audible without an app like Libation really doesn’t let you own books as they are tired to your account. To truly own audiobooks, you need to buy them on CD or download and decrypt them . Trust me, my Amazon account, which was linked to my audible account, was hacked. I lost access to all digital content on both platforms. Well, except for the ebooks and audiobooks that I de-drm’ed.
It depends on what you define as dramatic. I think in the Dune audiobook, it really helps that they have multiple actors to play the different roles. Especially in there massive dialogue scenes such as Paul sitting in on his fathers meeting. If it was just one performer I could see how it would get incredibly confusing.
Audible is literally highway robbery. Especially if you like books that happen to be kinda short. All the books are like 20 freaking dollars .. and the membership costs like 15 a month for the privilege of paying that 20 dollars per book.. but it's cool cuz you get 1 free book a month.. for 15 dollars.. how is this a business?
Dude! I almost was gonna cuss you out! Your Video simply starting talking about: ( Go To Library and Get A Card! ) " Serious? " That was false information to the tittle of your video! I was about to get really pist mad! Then you further explained, how I could tap into my local library thru this Libby App and retrieve reading books on my phone! Dude this made my day! Thank You! Forgive me for thinking stupid! Have a wonderful day!
Doesn't seem to work if a book is geo locked, which by they way is the most ridiculous thing to have geo locked, especially if people are willing to pay and if it's a self help book. I can't wait for the day we finally manage to sort out our copyright laws and copyright lawyers will be forced to find real jobs instead of being a bane to society.
Libby down side, NO MP3 PLAYERS ALLOWED. If you don’t have a smart phone you are out of luck and you only have 2 weeks to finish book. Yes, You can play on your computer but can’t take that on your walk.
Yeah that really isolates people who are trying to be not so online. The best part of reading/storytellng is you don't need to be so device reliant - so I imagine that's frustrating.
Damn, wonder if Utah will jeep the team as the Yotes. Love their jerseys! As An Avs fan, I don't want this to happen, mainly due to division realighnment :/ But even as a fan i feel bad for AZ fans :(

Pin this rn lmao
No, video started very nicely!
Don't worry.
Does this work for college libraries ? Or does it have to be public ?

I seriously thought he was sending us to the library when he said "get a library card"
I may as well have lmfao

I have a library card and I've used "Libby". The problem with this app is the desirable books are rarely available!
We just got this in South Africa! ❤❤I can't actually believe it😅 I'm going to help my elderly parents with these audio books.
My library doesn’t have many of the books I like to listen to.

So you’d have to do this every 2 weeks
On Audible you can also return the book you got with a credit and they'll give you your credit back and you can get another book with it
A classic maneuver
Thank you so much for showing me this, I survive on a low income right now and Audibles 15$/month plus the 20$ plus per book is a bridge too far for me right now, but this is perfect for me.
Just tested It, works for the UK, thanks!

Been doing that for 25 years, books through the library free.
This is awsome, just signed up online and got my library eCard instantly. I've already started reading a book and have a few on hold. This is an awesome service. So glad I found your video.
BOOM! This is what I love to hear
Where did you get it from?
Hi, my city in canada have a library but it's not in the list. what to do in this situation.
OMG you are a legend!!!!!! Love every second of this video from the first second to the last! Perfect.
Will this method work for people from other countries?

Haha I totally get it, thanks for clicking!
so.. basically, when i was about to do the card, i can't put any birthday in there
i love libraries - i believe they're so fundamental in a healthy society
So happy to have come across this!! Thank you! ❤️
So, then could we listen offline?? I have flight coming up.
I can't seem to find my library. How do I add a library? I'm looking for Hampton Public Library in Hampton, Virginia
Truly a blessing, thank you. I was literally just about to sign up to audible 😭
Audible had its perks but like....free is free

Incredible!!!! Thank you. Joined the NY Public Library. The Most Books Available
Wonderful!
If you can't find a book, ask your local library to go out of state to find it for you.
Thank you so much I am trying to get back into reading and this video help me in getting books for free because audible is so expensive it makes you not want to read but you help me continue wanting to read free is always better

Hoopla is also super useful and also uses your library card
When the book is there but no audio ;-;
I keep putting in my library but its NOT coming up. Do i have to use a libray that libby acknowledges?
Hmm, unfortunately I am unsure on this one.
@LukeParon I figured it out, u have to use a library that libby acknowledges in your area, then apply for that card, I did it & I'm in, thank u!! 🙏
The library sucks half the books that you want they don't have the other half you wait 10 weeks for I want to read a book I want to read it now not 10 weeks from now. Plus the available audiobooks are very few.
It Does NOT work with all libraries in all states in the United States… like Bull Shoals, Lakeview, Midway, etc, all in AR
tldr "dont use audible. go to your library"
Yeah
You could have mentioned in the beggining of the video that this is only for certain countries. I cannot add any library from the Czech Republic.
I was unaware of this, my apologies
Hey Can You Play The Audiobooks offline
Yep, libby lets you save to device
How do I get an access to a library in India. And what if I do not have an access to a public library like at all!!
Sadly, not all of us are from first world
What do you do if it doesn’t have an audio book version?
Doesn’t work for me only showing samples
Shoot I was hoping to be able to upload audiobooks from Liby or Hoopla to Audible, or at least into my own folder & I had thought this is where you were going, but where there is a will there is way lol .. Great post thank you!
I’m from Europe and it didn’t work for me
We support the library through our taxes. So not really "totally" free but yes, the library is a great resource which we should leverage to its fullest, including of course, audio books. 🎉
Love it. Works in Cardiff, Wales
You are a blessing! This video was awesome and so helpful! Thank you a ton 🥰🙏🏼🙏🏼!!!
Still looking for a way to do this on Brazil, but I don't think our libraries provide that kind of service. If anyone knows a way, do let me know
Does it work with iceland?
Sadly, in Italy it doesn't work.
Hoopla same thing. Limited selection of books though. But it’s free.

ALWAYS opt for a physical ownership when you can of course!
Can I transfer a 90 hour AUDIBLE book onto an a MP3? I'm about to travel to a place that has no electricity.
I’m sorry I don’t know. I hope you figured it out. Are you going on a missions trip?
Yes it can be done

Didn't work for me Couldn't even get the APP

:/ The closest library it recognises is 100 km away. Yet I work in the local library.
Does this work for college libraries ???
when you live in a small town in germany and the local library has no english books😔
I'm sorry to hear it :(
libby doesn’t have my book as an audiobook 😭😭
I'm from south africa and 😔 we don't have that service here.

Thanks I was spending a krazy amount of money on audio books and now I can get them for free!!!!?
It's crazy how long it took me to realize this life hack too haha. Library's are such a common part of our life and yet I always forget they exist lol
