I think it's also awesome for the viewers involved who are passionate but are only beginning at something like this. I personally got a lot of helpful information through this which I hope I can use someday.
+Ruairi Wright Agree! Though I personally don't have a passion for film-making and don't know much about it, it's still a nice thing to see Jack talking about it and in the process helping others who wanna more about it. (Like you do, I assumed.) :)
I love how you've taken different directing styles from a variety movies while still making the film completely your own. And I agree, classical music fits oddly well with comedy. You're a brilliant one Mr. Howard!!
I commented this before finishing the rest of the video, and you had touched upon this. Just goes to show that you applied different concepts perfectly without completely copying them. :)
I really love that you included a bit of thoughtful criticism in the BTS too when you mentioned the lack of a motive for Lucy stealing the vase. That really makes the whole video more obviously sincere.
I'm a film student so this BTS stuff is so cool to see! Did you use Avid to edit? Everyone tells me it's "Industry Standard" but my god, it crashes a lot. Thanks for talking so passionately about what you do/make Jack, it fulfils the film and tv nerd in me!
+Samantha Russell I'm a film student as well. Avid sucks imo, but a lot of post-houses (in Ireland anyway) seem to use it. Know Premiere or Final Cut and you'll be sorted.
This is the tightest thing GFC was so new but it's particularly cool to see you reapplying what works to your ideas and bringing your own originality to it
I think it's great at how you analyse your own film, explaining in detail why you chose that shot, and why you decided to use "2001" as a reference. Having done my own commentary in my first year of University, I felt rather nervous and I wasn't overly impressed with the finished product, after watching this, it's given me ideas on how to approach it next time, by learning how to be more critical and analysing my strengths and weaknesses. So thank you, I've learnt a lot :)
I love the way you've interpreted your influences and applied them to new things, just like you said you wanted to. I think it's really worked in your favor and the finished product is amazing! Well done!
I really like this because I know nothing about the finer points of filmmaking so I feel like it adds a lot to my appreciation for something when someone explains the thoughts behind it
When hearing all the thought that went into even the smallest parts of film making, I really don't feel like I'm getting as much out of movies as I should be.
Loved this! So great to hear both what you think went well but also referencing what could have been improved! Love hearing a transparent conversation about the film making process!
I'm studying filmmaking in London and we're heading to the BFI on Wednesday for a trip and then hopefully I'll get to book to see some of the film festival. So happy I moved here for these opportunities
I love listening to the creator's intentions regarding their work, because my interpretation was completely different in most ways. it's nice to compare how I found it to how you wanted us to find it, and judge how well you did it! ;)
This was really interesting and helpful, I just started film school and so seeing more BTS from people like you is really cool! This is also my first year at BFI LFF, it's so exciting! When it wraps up, it would be really cool for you to make a summarising video of your favourite films there
I'm starting college tomorrow and I'm going to major in film and for the past couple of days I've been super nervous about it. But after watching your videos I've regained that excitement for making films that I had in high school and I just wanted to say, thank you so much lol
I love what you said about taking inspiration but then acknowledging that that's where you got it from. I love seeing things that reference other things subtly (or even more obviously) when they're done well. and I like doing that myself, I did it a whole bunch with my webseries. I would realize that a scene was so similar to what I was inspired by that I would be like "well heck, might as well just reference it and acknowledge that's what I'm doing" your version is more subtle for sure haha but anyway yeah just wanted to say I liked that bit
Im making a short film for my Moving Images As level and hearing you talk about films like this and sharing your inspirations is so helpful to me Jack, so thank you so much!
I think you should do one of these for all your short films and even your Jack and Dean videos. As a lover of film making and viewing, I found this very enlightening, entertaining and educational (unintentional how many 'E' words there was there..) and I love seeing how passionate you get about films and how you incorporate other people's work into yours. Super helpful to watch and would love to see more editing break-downs of your films ((:
Its so great seeing someone speak so passionately about something. Also very very interesting to see the thought process behind something. Great stuff! :)
I learn a lot of new things from this video. Filmmaking is a new interest for me, I need to watch more videos like this. Thanks, Jack, you inspire me to do more. A shame I couldn't go to BFI because I live 7 hours earlier than you.
I really would love for you to cast Louise as a character in one of your series/films as you both work so well together anyway, and I think it would be amazing to see Louise in a new light. Can you ever imagine this happening?
I love that this behind the scenes video has more of an explanation of how it all happened and the thought processes rather than a long video with a bunch of actors and crew dicking around. Not that I don't love those videos too, just kinda wish they had more of the explanation part
"Blue Danube" is also used in one of my favorite movies--"Baby's Day Out" (it's like "Home Alone" but with a baby). Also, I really admire your passion for films; you are eager to learn everything you can and always do your best to make great content. I can't wait to see the next film/series you make! :)
this is so awesome. between you, Hazel, the Jacksgap crew I feel like I'm getting such a cool insight into how filmmakers think and create and it's helping me in my own creative pursuits! It's also just wicked cool to watch someone talk about what they're passionate about and what they're learning. keep doing these vids! :)
Tis was such a good video. It was really nice to see the thought process behind GFC and as a film maker it was really interesting to see how you can use inspiration from fantastic films in a different way. Thanks Jack :)
It's really inspiring how you speak about film! I never thought about film in that way and you made me think about it and understand it. I guess i have to thank you now. Thank you Jack for making me think and understand film !
Great video! Even though I know nothing about films and filmmaking this was really interesting and you should do something like this for all your future films and projects
The song in the beginning is officially called "An der schönen blauen Donau" which is a austrian walzer by Strauss (Au is pronounced like the typical ow)
This video really made my day, Jack. I've just started studying Film and TV at university and I haven't been coping to university life too well (just ask my Mum). I love watching the behind-the-scenes to almost anything, really - I like that you did the intro all in one take! I hope to achieve half as much as you and Dean have done at some point in my life! I'm struggling with writing at the moment, it's what I passionately want to do, but I'm afraid I'll lose momentum - anyway, I'll just keep practising at it! Also, if anyone scrolling through the comments is looking for a film recommendation, I recently watched True Romance. It's quickly become one of my favourites, but Tarantino's not for everyone. But, I just love the character interaction!
I wonder what the two people who thumbs-downed this video disliked? I think it's fantastic and I love that you're passionate about filmmaking, comedy, and peer education. You are the best @JackHoward!
This is actually really great for me to watch seeing as I'm taking A level media and stuff like this is really helpful when I'm making films to get graded. Thanks a lot! P.s this pilot was filmed soooo well and I loved the array of shots that you used :) really draws the audience in :) ty
First of: I loved that film and this was very interesting as well. I'm going to be in my first screenwriting class this semester and hearing something about the creative processes behind any part of film making always gives me joy. I wish you all the best in all your projects, you have been entertaining me for years now. The Blue Danube = An der schönen blauen Donau (original German title which translates to "By the beautiful blue Danube"). Danube as a word has got nothing on Donau though, the latter sounds much better^^
Thanks for making this video. I loved seeing the thought you put behind the music selection and the way the shots were structured. I'm definitely going to enjoy "GFC" a lot more now that I know it was influenced by "2001 Space Odyssey" The fact that you can creat such good content without a big budget inspires me like you can't imagine. I'm a Mexican student who aspires to become a film director some day and I'd love to be a part of something like Jack and Dean. Keep up the great job, I can't wait to see what you've been working on!
I love how much of a film nerd you are ahaha. This would have made such a great series man I wish there was more to watch!!!! Was awesome to see how you made it though, very inspirational for aspiring filmmakers like me :)))
If you had put other things next to The vas and showed Lucy stealing that first, then we would had understand it better, but I still think that we all got it. Loved The pilot! Especally The falling coffemug :)
This was such an interesting video!! So much better than your usual waffle. LOVE YOUUUUU!!! xxxx
+Sprinkleofglitter (not sexual)
Thanks bezzie
#friendshipgoals
+JackHoward your friendship is goals +Sprinkleofglitter
Please stay BFFL'S as long as I live
One of the greatest thing for me is to see someone passionately talk about the thing that he got a passion for. :)
(Like you do, I assumed.) :)
blue dan-oob...
Jack, its called the Blue Dan-yube, after the river Danube...
GCF was seriously fantastic. I loved every moment and I would not complain if it was made into a series!!!
I love hearing how passionate you are about film making, it's awesome!
Screw English homework, this is more important.
Oh no, that reminds me of my geometry homework pages...wonderful, just wonderful.
Actually have my half finished English homework on my lap
Still haven't finished it because I ended up watching more of Jack
+Yasmine Grace Trust me, go do your homework. Sincerely, a Uni student.
+Yasmine Grace geography hw for me
I could listen to you talk about this shit for hours.
Your admiration/obsession with 2001: A Space Odyssee is a really funny thing to witness
"There is never enough time" - I can't agree with you more.
I now have and urge to send them a bag of Monopoly money and write 'swag' on it
cool to hear about the process behind GFC! really enjoyed it, and really enjoyed this :)
I better watch a space odyssey then
+Victoria Howarth you seriously should, it is a fantastic cinematic experience
+Martin Hayfield I got to see it in the cinema i work in, it was fantastic
merlin1997ish no way! i'm jealous!
Martin Hayfield I know it's the best job i've ever had... it's the only job i've had but none the less it's gonna be difficult to top
I really love that you included a bit of thoughtful criticism in the BTS too when you mentioned the lack of a motive for Lucy stealing the vase. That really makes the whole video more obviously sincere.
This set up is *sweeeeet*, sir. Luvvlly commentary.
(...did Ciaran just shove all of the shit to the other side of the room tho!? :P )
+Jenni xo Byrne Fucking hell Jenni...
+TheElderberry (thanks someone else for saying it haha!)
I love these type of videos!
I love how you describe the film making process and which movie sequences you enjoy. And you're right about time. It is a hindrance when making film.
I've always preferred Premiere Pro, it's a much nicer software to use :) In Australia we're told to learn as many post softwares as possible.
This is the tightest thing GFC was so new but it's particularly cool to see you reapplying what works to your ideas and bringing your own originality to it
it's amazing how much thought gets put into things like this, you don't realise it until somebody points it out, thanks jack you've opened my eyes
I love it when you talk film. You've done great and I think you'll do even greater things. I'm a fan of Jack Howard!
I TOTALLY felt those vibes when I saw the film for the first time but couldn't put my finger on it. This was super insightful
Good job on GFC Jack! I really enjoyed it, well done!
I love spoilers
Said no one ever
+ECTV That guy did
+William Love well apart from them hehe
+ECTV I love Spoilers
oh look i just did too ;)
+Cerys M me too sometimes, I like being prepared emotionally... real life's enough of a thrill ride for me.
I really enjoyed this BTS perspective on the short film, also it's fascinating how passionate you sound when you talk about films and what you do.
Really awesome video! I loved seeing the take before and after special effects were added! And GFC is definitely in my top 100 favourite things 😉
I just watched it and holy shit it's so good Jack well done
i wondered why i loved the cinematography/editing so much in GFC, and now i know! 2001 is such a good movie!
I love the way you've interpreted your influences and applied them to new things, just like you said you wanted to. I think it's really worked in your favor and the finished product is amazing! Well done!
I really like this because I know nothing about the finer points of filmmaking so I feel like it adds a lot to my appreciation for something when someone explains the thoughts behind it
I really like how you explain films... I could watch movies with you Jack Howard
I've never seen this 2001 space odyssey film, I feel like I should, jack always talks about it so highly
When hearing all the thought that went into even the smallest parts of film making, I really don't feel like I'm getting as much out of movies as I should be.
Your passion for film and directing is very inspiring and amazing to see! Good job Jack!
"Hal is a all knowing, all seeing, technology being." Jack, I think you should become a rapper.
the idea to use fishing wire is so clever! i had no clue how you did it but know that youve explained it its so simple :
This is such a coincidence! I rewatched ghost fighting corporation last night! Love seeing how you took inspiration and made it into something new :)
please put the bloopers from this into the next gag reel I will love you for an extra 5 years
Gosh I love Jack Howard....
I love listening to the creator's intentions regarding their work, because my interpretation was completely different in most ways. it's nice to compare how I found it to how you wanted us to find it, and judge how well you did it! ;)
This is some great insight into your cinematography choices. Thanks for the BTS glimpse!
Finally ! I've been waiting for this ! :) TY

I'm going to the London Film Festival too, can't wait for Suffragette and The Walk
I enjoyed the short film so much and it was interesting to see the whereabouts of the ideas and the behind the scenes! Thank you :) x
I love your videos so much. The passion you have for films reinforces why I love them so much and you're honestly one of my favourite RUclipsrs
Im making a short film for my Moving Images As level and hearing you talk about films like this and sharing your inspirations is so helpful to me Jack, so thank you so much!
I'd love to see GFC made into a series! Also very interesting video, 10/10 😎

The song is called "An der schönen blauen Donau", it's a song by the Austrian composer Johann Strauss jr.
Danube is pronounced as something you could potentially yell at your flat mate when he does some thing that you can't even, DAN-YOUB...
"Blue Danube" is also used in one of my favorite movies--"Baby's Day Out" (it's like "Home Alone" but with a baby).
Also, I really admire your passion for films; you are eager to learn everything you can and always do your best to make great content. I can't wait to see the next film/series you make! :)
Wish I had the swag for you to make a lot more stuff. Love your work and it was cool to hear the creative behind the movie. Cheers and thanks Jack.
Thank you for uploading this Jack!! Love from Italy 💕

Love how passionate you are about film and what you do it makes me inspired as I want to make films xx
This video was way better than the videos you usually make on this channel. I would love to see more of this:)
As a creator, being able to see behind the scenes footage is always great for learning!
Tis was such a good video. It was really nice to see the thought process behind GFC and as a film maker it was really interesting to see how you can use inspiration from fantastic films in a different way. Thanks Jack :)

3:17 another name for that is parallel editing (i also freaking love when that happens, such suspense)

GFC is one of the funniest and best short film things I've seeeeeenn seriously Jack I love it :D
I wonder what the two people who thumbs-downed this video disliked? I think it's fantastic and I love that you're passionate about filmmaking, comedy, and peer education. You are the best @JackHoward!
an 8 minute jack howard video! perfect :D
I like the referencing back to 2001: A Space Odyssey - nicely done :)
Jack Howard - i am definitely a film director
I wish you could do more GFC! More GFC! More GFC! Loved that film!
This is actually really great for me to watch seeing as I'm taking A level media and stuff like this is really helpful when I'm making films to get graded. Thanks a lot! P.s this pilot was filmed soooo well and I loved the array of shots that you used :) really draws the audience in :) ty
can i just say jack you're the love child of steve rogers and tony stark
I loved it I feel like it doesn't get enough recognition tho, neither do you or dean you guys are so talented and funny
This is so helpful for my Media Studies A Level thank you!!
My swag bag wouldn't fit in an email.
Ugh I wish I lived in London because I'd totally go to the bfi film festival. Wow that's be amazing
Awesome to know how your put the influence in there
Some great films to be shown this year! Suffragette, High Rise, Black Mass, and Steve Jobs would be my top picks.
This was really interesting! I really wish I could go to the BFI film festival, have fun! :)

jack Howard was so good in Ghost fighting corporation ngl
I love how much of a film nerd you are ahaha. This would have made such a great series man I wish there was more to watch!!!! Was awesome to see how you made it though, very inspirational for aspiring filmmakers like me :)))
currently studying 2001: a space odyssey for film art class! thanks for all the points, jack! :-)))
but jack it WAS the best thing i've ever seen! it was awesome!
The passion is real
I'm really tempted now to send you a bag with 'swag' on it with nothing in it :D
You better have done it
Just started a film production course at uni - your short films are very inspirational :-)
If you had put other things next to The vas and showed Lucy stealing that first, then we would had understand it better, but I still think that we all got it. Loved The pilot! Especally The falling coffemug :)
