I remember when I bought my jeep grand Cherokee from the dealership it had so many problems I got it 50% off replace a throttle position sensor on it ran like a champion for five years and counting
Haha... Hey, bud! Had the pleasure of swapping a few messages with your son. He told me about your ZJ. Rock and roll man! I am not sure I was supposed to mention that on a video now that I think about it. Whoops!
I overpaid for my '01 TJ that I am still beating on to get it 100%. One of the absolutely most dramatic and easiest fixes was replacing the throttle position sensor. It went from running like a leaky tugboat to smooth powerful 4.0 perfection, a 5 minute fix that helped soften the blow of paying $5k for a TJ worth $4k!
Shortly after I bought my 03 Rubicon I was on a road trip and had the water got to my TPS problem. Unfortunately I was young and somewhat inexperienced and didn't know what I was dealing with sine I lost overdrive..etc. Couple hundred dollars at a Jeep Dealer out of state and I was back in business. I now own probably 5 "extra" TPS sensors so I feel this in my soul....
I think the "clever ways of opening a beer" is quickly morphing into "The most overkill tool for crackin' into a cold one"! LoL 😂. Chainsaw... Check! Big Freakin' Pipe Wrench... Check! But where do we go from there?? Air chisel, perhaps?? Love the content, boys! Also, just thought I'd let you know I ran into another fan of your fine channel here in the Seattle/Tacoma area. I happened to find some guy selling a set of WJ tow hooks locally on Craigslist, and we just started taking WJ's and I mentioned to him I knew his price was fair because it was about the same as this guy on a RUclips channel I watch that goes to his local u-pull and will occasionally find some to sell. He was like, "Lemme guess, D&E In The Garage?" and we ended talking about you guys and your shenanigans a bit! I also ended up mentioning I had been looking for a set of factory roof rack cross bars since I saw his WJ had some, and he actually ended up going back to the yard after we parted ways. He text me back and asked if I was really interested in a set of cross bars. Long story semi-short: I ended up meeting him again the next day and bought the cross bars and a passenger rear seat belt, since mine looked like one of the the ones from your wife's Compass! At this point, my wife was kinda giving me the ol' stare-down, and I reassured her that it's a good thing I found this guy that will go get stuff from the yard and sell it to me at a decent price... It keeps ME out of the yard! She was like, "True, if you went, you'd have been there for hours and come back with a Jeep full of parts and a wallet empty of cash!"
@@robtheroadie2240, you know, I think you're on to somethin'... I think I shall put it in my last will and testament that anyone paying their respects lay Jeep parts on my grave, rather than flowers! 😁
@Always tempted, you are 100% right ethanol gas is pretty much responsible for doing in sensors premature, also eats away insides of gas tanks and fuel lines over time.

but the tps doesn't come into contact with fuel, air, exhaust, or combustion. it is just attached to the exterior of the throttle body butterfly shaft. ethanol might mess with other sensors, but not tps
When the TPS fails on a 4L I6 I know the transmission is lost as to what its supposed to be doing. At first I was like well sh** the transmission just failed....no, it was that TPS's fault. It would shift erratically, or not at all, no overdrive at all, occasionally would start in 2nd gear, sometimes first. Going to pull some parts next time I am at the pick a part just to have on hand for future use.
Another Jersey guy here in Somerset just curious where are the u pull it yards you go to? I think there is a small one by me but not sure where else to go.
Hey neighbor! We go to Harry's across the boarder in PA. There is one in Allentown (maybe avoid this one, it is small and often over crowded), Pennsburg, and Hazleton (this one is the biggest and best, but also furthers from NJ)
I'm also in Somerset... I've been to Hazelton and it is nice...we also have Johnny's in Altoona and Marsh in Dawson (Uniontown) is pretty good... These ones he mentioned out east are about 4 hours from us
without telling me make a vacuum bank elimination. I can't find the correct part is the one like a plastic ball. Can I use the before one 91-96? In some forums says that work. Do you know that can work?
Have a 1991 Jeep Wrangler yj 4.0 . Starts good runs well about 2 miles then skips when i need power to get on freeway skips for about 2 miles then runs well when completely warm. Haha, yep. Pennsburg. We do not mention where in the vids as most of these yards would rather we did not film there. We will keep an eye out for ya! We usually go to Pennsburg, though Hazleton is our favorite
So I got a 98 xj was in the yard grabbed a tps off 2000 wj both 4.0 different connection ? I'd it a Cherokee grandcherokee thing that's different or did the sensora change at some point?
I replaced TPS and my scan tool still does not start at 0%... TPS in my Ford does the same, but all my GM cars always start at 0% unless there was a problem with TPS. Have you experienced this?
Was searching the ole Craigslist last week and ran across a late 90's Dodge Dakota 4x4 318 with selec-trac....damn I wish I had the $$$$ I would have grabbed it, they wanted $6800 for it, it was in really good condition too...kicking self in ass for being dumb for too many years screwing up my credit and wasting money...could have had a somewhat "rare" truck.

Here’s the problem… and this goes for the vast majority of parts you get from the junk yard… you’re pulling parts for spares, in case the one on your daily driver goes down… but how do you know the one you pulled isn’t near the end of it’s life too? Now, some parts it’s obvious… but sensors and such? Seems like a crapshoot to me.

When I owned my 97 Cherokee, I learned quickly to not use gas with any ethanol. That carbon buildup would kill the TPS
but the tps doesn't come into contact with fuel, air, exhaust, or combustion. it is just attached to the exterior of the throttle body butterfly shaft.
ethanol might mess with other sensors, but not tps

Why does that 4.0 have both the hood shocks AND a support bar holding the hood open? My 4.0 doesnt have the support bar🤔
