Saw Whitesnake from this era, and thought two things: that this is phenomenal, and, that this would last forever. Sadly, no one is producing music like this anymore. We knew we had it good, but we didn’t know how limited a time we would have it. What I wouldn’t pay for a time machine right now.
Thank god for bootleg video and recording, if these people hadn't got to sneak video camera and recorders into concerts, we would have the pleasure of viewing this wonderful music- no auto queue, no backing tapes, just pure talent stage presence 🙂
No John Sykes, he changed the sound of Whitesnake and was definitely responsible for the blockbuster 1987 album. Sadly he got fired. And Whitesnake didn't change their sound since. In those video cameras and cameras were not allowed in concerts, so fair play to the guy who got the VHS video camera in! Great concert at their peak here...
Cameras are still not allowed in but bizarrely mobiles are. I went to see Rammstein in 2022 and wasn't allowed in with my camera, so had to hide it. Sadly I didn't do a very good job because it wasn't there after the show. In hindsight, I should have offered the battery from the camera and perhaps that would've been acceptable. I'll never know.
Thanks for uploading this masterpiece. For all the youngsters, in 1987, there were no mobile phones. This dude took a camera equivalent in size of 2 6packs end on end to record this masterpiece in VHS glory for all of us to enjoy. Vandenberg & Campbell, Sarzo & Aldridge- OMMFG- insane. 80's legends all on one stage ripping it to shreds. Holy F**k!

It's always a trip for me to watch these videos from this tour. Their house engineer was a friend of mine and who taught me all I know about running live sound and how to be a recording engineer.
Early WS with Mickey Moody & Bernie Marsden was the best. I miss that British sound WS. However, Adrian Vandenberg is one of the best guitarists and one of my hero. so, I would not complain on this line up.- I just CAN'T stand Steve Vai in WS- without any doubt, Vai is one of the best guitarists. Idid not think his sound/style would fit in WS.
Saw them open for the Crue in '87. Vivian killing it on guitar and most vocal harmonies. Too bad it didn't work out with him & Vandenberg, but was still a great show.
I was born in 76 and didn't start going to concerts until the early 90s. Though I still saw the likes of Aerosmith, Van Halen, Leppard, Crue live in those years, I see footage like this and fantasize about getting in a time machine and seeing some of the shows from the 80s when everyone was still at their peak. Man, would have been epic.
It's been 35 plus years since I had the pleasure of these two playing right in front of my face, so I can't be 100% sure, but in Indy, Adrian spanked Vivian Campbell. I'm a HUGE Viv/Dio fan. I had just started playing hair guitar, myself in 1985. I haven't even seen Viv play yet, but I remember being so blown away by his unbelievable playing that night. Unreal.
I was there, even the 29th et 30th. What a surprise to discover this video. Such memories, great time, i'll never forget it. We where 4 young and beauty swiss girls in this journey. Had a lot of fun n' happiness.
Viv wanted to sing backup in Dio, but RJD said, "NO! Guitar players don't sing!" Viv thought, "Uh, Marc Bolan, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Stevie Ray Vaughan?" Since Dio, Viv has sung harmony in every band he's been in.

@@adamwood7597 If anything, Viv was a mismatch for Dio. He was in Dio for four years. He has been in Def Leppard for 34 years. Before that, he kicked around in Whitesnake, Riverdogs and Shadow Kings. The massive bulk of his career has been in non-metal bands.

it's wild cause this band was put together from scratch to support the album, they did not write or record the songs on the album . They all did a stand up job getting together and touring rather quickly .... however nobody does Whitesnake guitar like John Sykes what a fking boss guitarist! Thanks for sharing this magic with us ! I am a Coverdale fan from his Purple and earlier Whitesnake days…… Sykes killed it! Aldrich is the ultimate “cover” guitar player too. I think starting on this tour Coverdale became full of himself. But, we all sucked it up in the ‘80s. When I look at this today, in spite of the musicianship, it is cringe worthy.
Was at the NEC two or three nights later. Both guitarists were amazing and Coverdale’s voice spot on. He did have a disturbing amount of blusher on as I recall

I saw the Snakes with all sorts of lineups. My favourite was Donnington 1983 with Mickey Moody and the great Cozy Powell. But these shows at Wembley were a close second.

Yeah, I became a Tommy Aldridge fan when we saw him with Pat Travers in the 70s. Saw them at Cal Expo. After dropping a drum stick… then the other, he kept playing bare handed. One hand was bleeding pretty good but he finished the show, after he got sticks.
Because Adrian Vanderberg butchered nearly every Sykes solo in this recording. He doesn’t have the speed nor the fire of Sykes and was a poor replacement. Doug Aldrich was the only one that could nail the feel of the Sykes solos from the 87’ album.@@user-XXX21

Not only is Vivian not terrible he actually has much more raw GOD given talent than 98% of all the 80s rock and metal guitar players John Sykes was the inventor of Whitesnake 87 and that was just to much for poor old Davids over inflated ego to handle so after getting all of John guitar parts down on tape he took a page outta Sharon and Ozzys play book and fired the entire group and replaced them with the best touring rhythm section in the business with Rudy Sarso and Tommy Aldridge and then went out and got the best metal guitar player that wasn't already dead (in Rhoads) or playing in Van Halen .so yes Vivian Campbell was the next best thing he could have got besides Rhoads and Eddie and neither one of those were a option . but trust me David would have tried had they been .and yeah as one pointed out on here already he hired Adrian solely on looks just like Ozzy did with Jake E Lee
I wasn't at that gig but seen them a couple of nights before at Newcastle brilliant 👏👏 row 5 got some very plectrum from Vivian and Adrian wich I still have in the back of my cds 👍👍
Fun fact: as famous as these guitarists are for playing with Whitesnake, Vandenberg only ever recorded the solo on “Here I Go Again”, and Viv Campbell is only on the ‘88 remix of Give Me All Your Love.
I saw them six weeks later on 14 February 1988 in Louisville, KY. Can’t wait to watch this video as it is likely the closest I will get to the one I was at.
Having 2 killer lead guitars in the band make for some killer sonic possibilities. Super intricate, high velocity solos harmonized sounds amazing. Judas Priest is a great example. Never noticed it on any of their records, but live, it's unbelievable. A harmonizer effect on a single guitar player doesn't sound natural. If you don't play, it's like the acapella groups singing on Pitch Perfect, just with guitars.
I was privileged to see this tour in Birmingham on 2 January 1988. My jaw is still on the floor! This was the best Whitesnake lineup. What a gig! Thank you so much for this footage 🤘

Saw the boys on this tour in Indy at Market Square Arena. Thursday March 3, 1988. Tickets were a whopping $15.00 Great White opened, and showed em up. Great White isn't a band you'd want to follow.
Tickets were £10 I seem to remember! Can't imagine those ticket prices today! Saw Queen at Wembley stadium the previous year ticket price £14! Still got the ticket stubs somewhere!

I caught the Atlanta show from this tour. Great White and White Lion opening for Whitesnake. Hands down the whitest show I ever saw.
My ticket only mentions Great White. I think White Lion toured Atlanta in April that year with Aerosmith

People forget how good a singer Vivian is. Some great harmonies off DC and guitar work that can match anyone, including Sykes
Fun fact: as famous as these guitarists are for playing with Whitesnake, Vandenberg only ever recorded the solo on “Here I Go Again”, and Viv Campbell is only on the ‘88 remix of Give Me All Your Love.

Having 2 killer lead guitars in the band make for some killer sonic possibilities. Super intricate, high velocity solos harmonized sounds amazing. Judas Priest is a great example. Never noticed it on any of their records, but live, it's unbelievable. A harmonizer effect on a single guitar player doesn't sound natural. If you don't play, it's like the acapella groups singing on Pitch Perfect, just with guitars.

yes but these two guitarists were not the ones you hear in the studio record. Of them two, only Campbell maybe can be on the same level with Sykes.

Saw the boys on this tour in Indy at Market Square Arena. Thursday March 3, 1988. Tickets were a whopping $15.00
Great White opened, and showed em up. Great White isn't a band you'd want to follow.

Tickets were £10 I seem to remember! Can't imagine those ticket prices today! Saw Queen at Wembley stadium the previous year ticket price £14! Still got the ticket stubs somewhere!
