    I've seen this kind of wear, at one time or another, on every ETA caliber I've worked on. When I worked for Panerai, it was a particularly annoying problem. I'd get a watch in for its first service and the pallet for would be worn in this way (though maybe not this extreme). What was annoying was replacing the pallet fork sometimes didn't fix the problem. After running for 24-48 hours a fine red dust would build up in the fork slot and kill the performance of the movement. The only sure way to fix the problem in that case was to replace the balance complete. I believe in some instances, there is an imperfect polish on the impulse pin of the balance which contributes to the excessive wear of the fork slot. So you may want to let this watch sit in QC for a few extra days just to monitor the performance. Hopefully the new pallet fork fixes any performance problems. If not, check the impulse pin on the balance.
    PS- As a new-ish watchmaker (5 years at the bench), I think your videos are really great! It seems like I always learn something every time I watch one! So thanks for taking the time to make them.

      Could it be caused by the epilame-on-the-pallet-fork thing that some people claim is a Bad Idea?

    • @weekendatyodas8458
      @weekendatyodas8458 Год назад +2

      @@wilkosoft I would say no for a couple reasons. First, during a service, epilame is only applied to the pallet stones. Second, the two most common epilame treatments I'm aware of are Fix-o-drop and Episurf. Both of which are suspensions of Teflon-like chemicals. These chemicals are not at all abrasive. As for the idea that epilame treatments are a bad idea... If improperly applied, epilame could negatively affect the performance of a movement. But epilame should only be applied to two areas in a watch escapement: the teeth of the escape wheel and the pallet stones.

      Some sort of impulse jewel defect was my first guess too. I could maybe see some extra wear with a plating defect but that was brutal.

    Thanks for the heads-up, surprising wear!
    Luckily you knew the years of bad production of movement in question! 👌

    I was under the impression Selitta is the one who made the movements for Oris. In fact that's why they're a big deal right now. I suppose this was before all that.

    Man ohh man, I've never seen such wear. Please check the impulse jewel for possible damage, or inferior ruby material and possibly replace that as well. I would.

    Hi Kalle, many thanks for the update. I wondered that the escape wheel has not a good rhythm. See minute 20:25 in the live video. There is a short break in every second swing :-) I thought that was a youtube problem. Kind regards and Gelukkig nieuwjaar! Thomas

    Hello Kalle, never seen something like that ! interesting ! but I have another question , ! I have another question if you can help! I month ago , or more, you show a gadget that can verify a quartz movement for errors mechanical or electronic errors . I was searching that but I only found some Horotec and Bergeon but they are huge expensive , so if you can help with this info what brand and from where did you buy that (was about 20$ )? Thank you in advance and I hope to have a best New Year ! Health and best wishes! Or how we are saying in Romania = what you wish to me I hope to happen to you ! And thank you for all your knowledge !

    Just curious..... Does ETA warranty that because of the known problem? Also could other parts be worn because of that quality control issue? I was wondering if part like this are like automotive parts that get recalled. Thanks.
