- Jenny demonstrates how to make a stunning Bow Tie Party quilt using 2.5 inch strips of precut fabric (jelly roll). For this project, she chose "Idaho Prairie Star" 2.5" Strips by Kim Diehl for Henry Glass. You may recognize this easy jelly roll pattern from a 2014 issue of BLOCK Magazine. My mom made all us (4) girls hand piece this pattern together as our first quilt ever. Somewhat tedious but she would always say keep your hands busy. Today she’s in heaven and we her girls carry on the hand quilting tradition
❤️❤️
I thought the layout was going to be tricky then BAM, you turned the block! How fun. Thank you.
I just retired and have organizing my sewing area. I found a bunch of these blocks. Can't wait to put them together in a quilt. It is amazing what you find after 20 years. I started in one corner and have found all kinds of things that I don't remember. LOL
Love the pattern. I have my grandmothers traditional bow tie quilt. She did it all by hand. She was born in 1894 and got her first sewing machine at age 11. I have that machine and it still work. God bless. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
Beautiful and easier than I thought. Jenny, you are my quilting idol! And I associate "wonky" to you, whenever I say it I have to smile!
It's so simple, it would make a great leaders and enders project.
Sandi, that's exactly what I was thinking!
I love the fabric, but this quilt would drive me crazy with the optical illusion look!
The great thing about you setting seams is that you bring it up one in a while, do it about twice, and then immediately forget again. It's SO cute! Love your videos, they inspired me to start quilting and now I'm on my second quilt.
Thank you for giving us blocks and material that isn't always flowery as nd feminine. Alot of people I wish to make quilts for prefer a more geometric type dedign. Thanks to all your design team at MSQC 👍
Oh, what a stunning bow tie quilt! Thanks for updating this old favorite!
I have the book - had looked for the tutorial and was bummed - I’m a visual learner - now I’m SUPER happy! I need to make this in gray scale for my niece. Thank you!
I was thinking gray scale also
Thanks Jenny for another amazingly simple and beautiful quilt.
I made a bow tie quilt earlier this year. It was an enjoyable day fun quilt to make.
😲 Surprised me that it was so easy!!!
Love this! Imagine... making just enough blocks to make the X and O across the top, then an O underneath those. Cute baby quilt! Thanks Jenny and MSQC for all you do for us quilting ladies.
Very beautiful gorgeous cute pattern
This is one of the first quilts my mom helped me make about 20 years ago. We cut from yardage, this will be much easier! I love a bowtie quilt .💕
The bow tie pattern is one of my faves! 💕
My son would love this quilt with it's geometric style
The Bowtie quilt is a classic!
I love, love this fabric, and an Idaho native the name really speaks to me!
I love all of your tutorials. As I was watching you make this bow tie quilt I realize that I know what chain piecing is but a lot of people might not. And I I think I would love to see you just showing us a tutorial of you actually as if you were just making it at home. Chain piecing.
The bowtie was my first quilt I ever pieced, but I did it by hand, and used the old fashioned method of sewing four pentagons around a center square. This is MUCH easier!
I love how just turning the blocks made that great design! On my list to make
I love how Jenny is so surprised when her seams match up! It looks like she is losing some weight too! Looking good Jenny!
That's super pretty.
Another great tutorial. Thank you MSQC
Awesome! Love it - and how it comes together! You always make it so easy, Jenny - thank you!
Thought Iwould miss this video this morning as I had to be at work at 5:45. Watched it while I had breakfast, sold me and I ordered before I went to work. I have learned all my quilting from you Jenny and love your weekly videos. Always thought quilting was too difficult but you make each quilt look easy so I have to try!!!
I see X's and O's at the intersections of the large 16-patch blocks. Nice quilt. Beautiful fabric line!
I love the new layout. The lush autumn colors you used are wonderful . Thanks for sharing.
Psychedelic!
Another great job Jenny, BTW I must have missed along the way, but 1) you look great 2) whats going on with your hands? Did you have surgery? I see you cant get your wedding ring on-hope you are ok and are recovering/staying healthy! We Love Ya Jenny; You are a constant shining star to me over these very difficult months during the pandemic - when this pandemic gets me down, I turn to your videos and I'm up again with hope! Thank you very much :-)
I can see an amazing X’s and O’s quilt using this block!!!!
Psychedelic! Looks fun to make. Thanks Jenny. Quack! 😂
I love it!
So pretty. Love the colours🇦🇺
This would be a gorgeous "Scrappy" Quilt.
That is beautiful!!!!!!
Cute pattern.
Great quilt Jenny 😃 Could you just use one Jelly Roll and one Honey Bun and then the background for this instead of 2 Jelly Rolls?
good idea. Looks like it would take 2 jelly roll strips for each major block. But don't make any mistakes cutting if you get a 40 strip roll. Of course the honey bun will have some left over. Mathmatically it works.
The only thing would be finding the matching jelly roll sets and honey bun set. Or else the strip would be better off (with the leftover after the 2.5 squares) cut into 1.5 strips so you can have strings for string piecing 😃
That's such a little piece. It is cute 💕. So it's ok not to set your seam!? I learned how to quilt by watching "ALL" your videos...hours and hours and hours. I just thought it was important to set the seams.
Mary-Ann Z. Reynolds you don’t have to set your seams. But in my opinion it’s better to set them as it relaxes the thread a bit to make the piece lay flat.
I encourage you to set your seams
Hi Mary-Ann - I learned the same way! I've been watching Jenny for a while now! Even though she doesn't always do it, it IS better to set your seams. It makes the thread relax (like Lori Kalmeyer said) and it makes the whole quilt lay flat in the end. I have made quilts where you can actually SEE where I didn't set my seams on some blocks! Enjoy the quilt life!
These gals are right it is a good idea to set your seams...I just forget sometimes!
@@CaleanWsh Me too! I love watching Jenny! Yes seam setting is a good habit to get into, however, I have skipped a seam setting or 2 and its ok, just a good habit to get into especially when matching is an important part of your design :-)
Thank you
Oh my eyes!!! That’s a cute quilt, but I’m still recovering from eyelid surgery so this really played havoc with my eyes!!
Hope you are recovering well
I sympathize with you. I just had cataract surgery yesterday and the quilt is vibrating!
I had the cataract surgery earlier. Speedy recovery!
Hope you recover soon, Bonnie!
I tried it on a small doily
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I want the block to be bigger how do I figure the smaller block to cut???
Which Block Magazine has the Bow Tie Quilt?
if i wanted to use the precut white squares how many pack would i need to buy?
It’s interesting but it’s vibrant- does it shaking?
hahahaha
Quisiera que estas instrucciones fueran enespañol. Gracias.
I wanted bigger bow ties.... I am trying to figure out the math. Any suggestions? It looks like it is 1/4 the sizes of your block??
so when you say turn the block does that mean every block is turned when you putting the rows together or do you turn the row? I am sorry my brain doesn''t work right sometimes
Turn the block of the 16 little bowties to get the cool patterns. My brain doesn't work well either ;)
What sewing machine is Jenny using now? Jane?
Dog bones and antlers :)
Fix
A new nice quilt.
