Cynthia’s fight was straight plot armor. Not only does she not use a ground type move, but instead of Mega Evolving Garchomp she just tries to get a speed boosted Togekiss
Right on the money. She would have won had she mega evolved and it made no sense that Garchomp didn't have any ground type moves especially since it's used ground type moves before. Plot armor at its peak.
Garchomp took too much damage from Sirfetch'd. She made a decision based on how things were going....same as we woulda did in a competitive battle. Plus while watching the battle, Leon didn't seem surprised by the strategy....so it was possibly the same decision he may have made.
What annoys me is that Cynthia’s Togekiss used Zen Headbutt Earlier in the match, meaning that Cynthia could of used Max Mindstorm at least once, to set up a psychic terrain and stop Lucario from using his only super effective move that Lucario had, that being bullet punch, since you can’t you use priority moves like bullet punch when there is a psychic terrain on the field, but nope she had to use 3 Max Airstreams like a fool
Now we need to see who the 10 weakest trainers are in the anime. And no one-off characters, with the exception of Gym Leaders and Elite 4 members that only appeared in 1 episode.

Paul was fighting ash with new Pokemon as a "training match" and ended up Taking out his dtagonite who beat iris. If anything it was animes way of us telling us Paul deserves to be in top 10 plus he was going to be the new gym leader of vridian gym(just like blue who was the second strongest)
It's debatable Paul or Tobias could have replace either Iris or Alain in the M8. I mean most would agree they are the weakest members of the M8 in the group of best trainers in the world.

We saw them fight several legendaries and we have it confirmed they beat elite four and champions (Malva in Alains case and the enitirity for Iris since she's champ. We also know both of them beat or fought Ash to a standstill in official matches relatively recentely. Yes Paul has gotten stronger, but you cannot compare a gym leader to the Unova champion, as for Alain, yeah he got beaten by Leon, we have no clue how he would have performed against anyone else. I think Tobias here would be underwhelming, since all of the trainers are used to and have dealt with legendary pokemon before. Also Paul, as cool as he is, just lost his relevance, the one battle he had with Ash isn't enough to rank him higher than Alain and Iris. Alain recentely beat Ash and Iris fought him to a tie. Paul lost... I'd even give Gary a better chance, since we know he has battled legendary pokemon and still dominates at battling (battle royale trial mission)

Gym leaders are all not on the same level the anime shows that clearly. Yes Paul is a Gym Leader and it can be said he’s the strongest Gym leader. He beats all Gym Leaders of every region he’s number one. The only Gym leader that can oppose Paul being the strongest Gym leader is Raihan. If Paul and Raihan were to battle, Paul wins because he has the narrative on his side if he had participated in the PWC. I find it hard to believe Iris is stronger than Paul since she went from average trainer to Unova's Regional Champion all off-screen and We have seen more of Paul’s Growth on screen by the end of DP Paul is Elite Four level. If we were to take both their old versions DP Paul beats BW Iris every time. The things many say about Alain can be said for Paul fought against an elite four trainer, champions, and legendaries. The only differences I see is one won a league and other didn't. Defeated an elite four trainer (Malva) on screen Alain. Paul likely defeated Pyramid King Brandon offscreen; it's plausible for the showing he had in Journeys.

It's clear Cynthia saw high potential in Paul as a trainer. Cynthia Believed Paul could reach the highest level of competitive pokemon battling. @@Justin-pl3qx I simply disagree, it is alright to really like Paul. When Cynthia said what she said, she meant the champions league as in her Elite Four and her, not the PWCS. Also, Alain is a winner of that competition, Paul IS NOT. That is why he can be ranked alongside them. He is arguably the weakest and his achievements stack against Paul: winning a conference, defeating an elite four member, keeping up with a champion (Steven) and battling against Rayqueza and Zygarde. Paul just does not have these accomplishments. I am not saying there is no place on this list for him, just not above Iris and Alain, but this is my opinion.
The anime did Lance so dirty. They should have had Ash win a rematch against Alain, Cynthia beat Steven, Diantha lose to Leon, and Lance win an extremely close match against Iris in round 1. Would have been much better for each characters’ respective arcs
I think its worth noting that Ash won the tournament using Pikachu and a pokemon team that he had for only this series. He was going against people with Pokemon theyve trained for years+

Honestly alain is hard to judge because he unfortunately had to face Leon first round and got jobbered. I'm not an alain fan but I think he would of done alot better facing one of the other champions. Leon is completely cracked and seems to be leauges above the other champions, like you said, took ash multiple gimmicks to even face Leon as equals.
Remember Leon's Charizard hasn't shown feats compared to Ash's Charizard. Like ash's Charizard was able to beat a Articuno who i would remind you that Ash and a squad could not tke down in journeys, and somewhat made a difference against Entei

@HarmandeepSingh-fy5zt Charizard X was just hanging in there. Sure he got a couple attacks but those did like no damage really. He did do a great job avoiding most of the attacks though. But also basically got 1 shotted by Primal Groudon. I say basically because he didn't get KOed and was still in his mega form but took significant damage from just that 1 hit to the point where he was down for a bit and Alain had to go over to him and get the rubble off him. Also Charizard doesn't fight Primal Kyogre, that was Metagross. And Charizard also got smoked against Mega Rayquaza.
@@HarmandeepSingh-fy5ztAlso Charizard didn't *Defeat* 50% Zygarde. What actually happened was that he was holding it off until Team Flare intervened and zapped it, causing it to return back down to its Cell form. Prior to that Zygarde was still completely good enough still to continue fighting.

Diantha beat lance because 1: Fairy > Dragon 2: Set up light screen and reflect 3: plot made her win because it would be repetitive to have lance lose two leon twice
It was a battle of strategy. Diantha had an actual strategy whilst Lance's strategy was to use his sheer strength to overwhelm his opponent. Diantha knew how Lance battled and took advantage of that, and that's why she won
Honestly I’ve said this for awhile now, but I think Ash should of Battled Lance in the first round instead of Steven, in exchange that Steven battles Diantha instead, which would of been way more interesting to see unfold personally, since seeing Ash who is from Kanto Battling the Kanto/Jhoto Champion Instead would of been way better personally

Ok imagine if they made a game where it was semi turn-based, semi fighting game, just like in the anime, and with the moves there could be emergent gameplay like hurricane fizziling out energetic projectile attacks. Too bad we don't get Tears of the Kingdom level quality and thought put into the pokemon franchise.
I feel as though ash should still rank above leon, I've never liked how the rules for the masters 8 tournament said that only one gimmick was allowed as it just causes characters with multiple to hold back. If there's going to be a tournament that decides the strongest trainer in the world they should be allowed to use everything they have to win.

@@QJk682 it was always gonna be Leon. With how ham fisted Leon was SwSh as “the best champion” it was always gonna be Leon. Since this was Ash’s final season, the final battle had to be either really hard fight or a big narrative closure moment and unfortunately since Gen 4, Gary moved on from battling and grew as a person. He wasn’t as arrogant or pompous as he was starting so the Gary that would have been a nice to see as a final battle was no longer in the series. Paul would have been great, especially since Cynthia mentioned the master’s tournament at the end of the Gen 4 Anime, but my guess is that the writers scrapped Paul and put Alain in since he was Ash’s most recent rival that also beat Ash, so having Alain lose to Leon narratively sets up this “oh shit” moment. The only real choice was just putting in the champions of each region and making Leon the final one

I like Sun and Moon too, but Journeys had great battles too in my opinion. And Ash vs Leon was probably the best battle in the anime's history, from start to finish.

Lance's problem, much like Iris, is that he suffers from a sever lack of type diversity. Unlike the chamions from gen 3 onward lance specializes in Dragons and tldragon like pokemon. They are powerful but with the introduction of fairy in gen 6 they werd given a massice weakness that they can't damge easily. If we were ranking in game champs based on difficulty Diantha would be near the bottom just above Geta. Lance, Steven, and Cynthia pre fairy tyoe were some of the hardest battles in the games

Ash beat the battle frontier. That's a better feat than winning a league. Especially when you consider that he beat 2 legendaries to do it. So Ash has been close to Elite 4 level since gen 3. So with all the strong pokemon he has caught since then, some of them having elite 4/champion level feats of their own. He Definitely deserves to be on champion level with his base pokemon alone. Add mega evolution, dynamax and Z-Moves into his arsenal, he deserves the #2 spot in the anime verse. He didn't win the Sinnoh League cuz Tobais had two legendaries. He got soft reset in Unova And Alain was just stronger than his Kalos self.

I like they did Diantha justice (sans vs Leon) in the anime and the Masters' 8. Showed herself a competent trainer and a great strategist (particularly the Gourgeist Trick-Or-Treat move)
People be hating on these comments about Ash’s journeys team. Now altough some performed kinda mid, Sirferched was just him without using any battle gimmick. Truly one of Ash’s strongest Pokémon without gimmick. Pikachu, Lucario and Gengar had gimmicks so they were obviously great mons for his team. I guess his team might’ve been better if he replaced dracovish and dragonite with Infernape, Sceptile and/or Charizard (not counting in Greninja since he technically isn’t capable of being used by Ash at the moment or ever from now on and they also removed Ash-Greninja from the anime for no pretty much no reason). Overall his team was really strong and worthy of his world championship team
Ash should be number 1. He took FIVE rookies with minimal battling experience to the World Championship and won. Also, Ash wouldn’t struggle against Leon if he used his REAL strongest team. Ash getting a fourth gimmick was only due to Eternatus and therefore is unrealistic to have in an actual fair battle

Right on the money. She would have won had she mega evolved and it made no sense that Garchomp didn't have any ground type moves especially since it's used ground type moves before. Plot armor at its peak.
Garchomp took too much damage from Sirfetch'd. She made a decision based on how things were going....same as we woulda did in a competitive battle. Plus while watching the battle, Leon didn't seem surprised by the strategy....so it was possibly the same decision he may have made.
What annoys me is that Cynthia’s Togekiss used Zen Headbutt Earlier in the match, meaning that Cynthia could of used Max Mindstorm at least once, to set up a psychic terrain and stop Lucario from using his only super effective move that Lucario had, that being bullet punch, since you can’t you use priority moves like bullet punch when there is a psychic terrain on the field, but nope she had to use 3 Max Airstreams like a fool

We saw them fight several legendaries and we have it confirmed they beat elite four and champions (Malva in Alains case and the enitirity for Iris since she's champ. We also know both of them beat or fought Ash to a standstill in official matches relatively recentely. Yes Paul has gotten stronger, but you cannot compare a gym leader to the Unova champion, as for Alain, yeah he got beaten by Leon, we have no clue how he would have performed against anyone else. I think Tobias here would be underwhelming, since all of the trainers are used to and have dealt with legendary pokemon before. Also Paul, as cool as he is, just lost his relevance, the one battle he had with Ash isn't enough to rank him higher than Alain and Iris. Alain recentely beat Ash and Iris fought him to a tie. Paul lost... I'd even give Gary a better chance, since we know he has battled legendary pokemon and still dominates at battling (battle royale trial mission)

Gym leaders are all not on the same level the anime shows that clearly. Yes Paul is a Gym Leader and it can be said he’s the strongest Gym leader. He beats all Gym Leaders of every region he’s number one. The only Gym leader that can oppose Paul being the strongest Gym leader is Raihan. If Paul and Raihan were to battle, Paul wins because he has the narrative on his side if he had participated in the PWC.
I find it hard to believe Iris is stronger than Paul since she went from average trainer to Unova's Regional Champion all off-screen and We have seen more of Paul’s Growth on screen by the end of DP Paul is Elite Four level. If we were to take both their old versions DP Paul beats BW Iris every time.
The things many say about Alain can be said for Paul fought against an elite four trainer, champions, and legendaries. The only differences I see is one won a league and other didn't. Defeated an elite four trainer (Malva) on screen Alain. Paul likely defeated Pyramid King Brandon offscreen; it's plausible for the showing he had in Journeys.

Also, Alain is a winner of that competition, Paul IS NOT. That is why he can be ranked alongside them. He is arguably the weakest and his achievements stack against Paul: winning a conference, defeating an elite four member, keeping up with a champion (Steven) and battling against Rayqueza and Zygarde. The anime did Lance so dirty. They should have had Ash win a rematch against Alain, Cynthia beat Steven, Diantha lose to Leon, and Lance win an extremely close match against Iris in round 1. Would have been much better for each characters’ respective arcs

Honestly alain is hard to judge because he unfortunately had to face Leon first round and got jobbered. I'm not an alain fan but I think he would of done alot better facing one of the other champions. Leon is completely cracked and seems to be leauges above the other champions, like you said, took ash multiple gimmicks to even face Leon as equals.
Remember Leon's Charizard hasn't shown feats compared to Ash's Charizard. Like ash's Charizard was able to beat a Articuno who i would remind you that Ash and a squad could not tke down in journeys, and somewhat made a difference against Entei

@HarmandeepSingh-fy5zt Charizard X was just hanging in there. Sure he got a couple attacks but those did like no damage really. He did do a great job avoiding most of the attacks though. But also basically got 1 shotted by Primal Groudon. I say basically because he didn't get KOed and was still in his mega form but took significant damage from just that 1 hit to the point where he was down for a bit and Alain had to go over to him and get the rubble off him. Also Charizard doesn't fight Primal Kyogre, that was Metagross. And Charizard also got smoked against Mega Rayquaza.

It was a battle of strategy. Diantha had an actual strategy whilst Lance's strategy was to use his sheer strength to overwhelm his opponent. Diantha knew how Lance battled and took advantage of that, and that's why she won

@@QJk682 it was always gonna be Leon. With how ham fisted Leon was SwSh as “the best champion” it was always gonna be Leon. Since this was Ash’s final season, the final battle had to be either really hard fight or a big narrative closure moment and unfortunately since Gen 4, Gary moved on from battling and grew as a person. He wasn’t as arrogant or pompous as he was starting so the Gary that would have been a nice to see as a final battle was no longer in the series. Paul would have been great, especially since Cynthia mentioned the master’s tournament at the end of the Gen 4 Anime, but my guess is that the writers scrapped Paul and put Alain in since he was Ash’s most recent rival that also beat Ash, so having Alain lose to Leon narratively sets up this “oh shit” moment. The only real choice was just putting in the champions of each region and making Leon the final one

I like Sun and Moon too, but Journeys had great battles too in my opinion. And Ash vs Leon was probably the best battle in the anime's history, from start to finish.

Lance's problem, much like Iris, is that he suffers from a sever lack of type diversity. Unlike the chamions from gen 3 onward lance specializes in Dragons and tldragon like pokemon. They are powerful but with the introduction of fairy in gen 6 they werd given a massice weakness that they can't damge easily. If we were ranking in game champs based on difficulty Diantha would be near the bottom just above Geta. Lance, Steven, and Cynthia pre fairy tyoe were some of the hardest battles in the games

You are all a bunch of haters for thinking Ash is the strongest. Ash won the Alola League only a couple of years ago, and now you believe that Ash is the strongest just because he defeats a few League Champions? The story was rushed without any sense.
Ash beat the battle frontier. That's a better feat than winning a league. Especially when you consider that he beat 2 legendaries to do it. So Ash has been close to Elite 4 level since gen 3.
So with all the strong pokemon he has caught since then, some of them having elite 4/champion level feats of their own. He Definitely deserves to be on champion level with his base pokemon alone.
Add mega evolution, dynamax and Z-Moves into his arsenal, he deserves the #2 spot in the anime verse.
He didn't win the Sinnoh League cuz Tobais had two legendaries.
He got soft reset in Unova
And Alain was just stronger than his Kalos self.

I like they did Diantha justice (sans vs Leon) in the anime and the Masters' 8. Showed herself a competent trainer and a great strategist (particularly the Gourgeist Trick-Or-Treat move)
She was always brilliant and even her elite 4 is top tier and way stronger than steven’s and Lance’s which support her ranking 4th

People be hating on these comments about Ash’s journeys team. Now altough some performed kinda mid, Sirferched was just him without using any battle gimmick. Truly one of Ash’s strongest Pokémon without gimmick. Pikachu, Lucario and Gengar had gimmicks so they were obviously great mons for his team. I guess his team might’ve been better if he replaced dracovish and dragonite with Infernape, Sceptile and/or Charizard (not counting in Greninja since he technically isn’t capable of being used by Ash at the moment or ever from now on and they also removed Ash-Greninja from the anime for no pretty much no reason). Overall his team was really strong and worthy of his world championship team
