Hello Darren about 4 years ago on a visit to David Austin Roses couldn't resist Lady Emma Hamilton. Like you was completely attracted, 😊 back in my postage stamp garden cut bottom out of a big black plastic pot & filled with 2& half bags of compost and put in rose. First year it did well for flowers was about 3ft 6ins & every year a dead head,,,, it has
grown a foot or more has many clusters of beautiful buds & flowers, gorgeous scent. It does have the choice of rooting into clay soil, and loves the pellets of rose plant food.!! Hope this description of my crazy method isn't too ott!!! So love your garden. Thankyou for sharing

Fantastic vid 👌 First DA rose I bought ❤ Love her despite the fewer blooms and am a very proud owner of the same 😊

My Emma is in a pot, 4 years old, maybe that is indeed your solution? She blooms beautifully even though she doesn't grow as big as she would in the ground. Makes it a very floriferous bush. Would be my favorite rose if not for the persistent black spot. But it doesn't ruin the blooms, luckily! Your Emma still looks stunning, no matter what!

My LEH is vigorous and I have to prune it hard, plus my flowers are a coppery orange, eventually turning paler.
I moved mine from the front to the back garden 3 years ago and it didn't like it, sulking for a couple of years until this year when it burst back to it's former glory😊

Bought two of them years ago. After two years, they also didn’t look as exceptional as before. They have grown bigger. Should be stronger actually but not. After 2,5 years, one was dead…
It was my true love… the fragrance… the nice compact schrieb/neat growing habit, the beautiful flowers…. Everything… just not strong enough…

Such a lovely rose. Can it be grown in semi-shade?

Sounds similar to the issues I have had with my personal favourite, the discontinued Abraham Darby. However, my AD performed better when I took it out of the ground and put it in a pot - and a cutting from it, also potted, did very well. I confess I would like to have a Lady Emma too!

So disappointed when they fail, but the colour is beautiful. Wish I could get little ones I'm out of space from normal rose bush's 🌹 😪 😅

love my Emma Hamilton. I think it's the soil that messes up your Emma, Try to repot it in to a large pot with fresh soil, adding some mycorysa and see if ti's going to help. Also makes sense to prune her very low and harsh to allow for basal replacement canes to come out to the full length and vigor.

I wonder if you were to call David Austin and speak with one of their rose people, maybe there's something in particular this rose needs?
I have a Lady Emma arriving in Spring. Looking forward to it, and hoping it does well. :)

Have you thought about putting her in a pot for a season or two? Something might be eating her roots!
