    I have 2 Clairs and love them. Easy to row and smell great. Also have Wedgewood. Love it! Pretty, fragrant, and bloom through out the summer . Princess M doesn't give me much blooms though she's gorgeous. Gertrude gives a good show in early summer then take a long break lol. So fragrant though. Just acquired James G this year but so far easy to grow and not fussy. Thank you for the recommendation. Maybe I'll get Lady Shallot this fall bcz of blooming habit.

    This was a great analysis. Please recommend a climbing rose to grow on a fence for screen but also beauty.

    • @AmritaBhortake
      @AmritaBhortake  Месяц назад

      Constance spry by DA is a great option especially if you want to grow on a fence for screening. It has large leaves and lots of thorns so will be helpful for protection too. You just might want to be careful if you have kids. The only thing about it is that it blooms only once in summer and is not repeat flowering. This is their tallest climber.
      Malvern hills and The lady of the lake are two other options for Rambling roses that grow quite tall so will work well on a fence as long as you train them well.

    I'm glad you pointed out that The Pilgrim blooms on the bottom and not just the tips. I thought about getting James Galway for it's shade tolerance but knowing that it doesn't bloom from top to bottom crosses it off my list of wants. I have a small garden and I require color in shrubs that rebloom and are showy all around since I can't get away with filling a lot of gaps with annuals. That's a detail you don't find in many descriptions of most climbing roses. I just bought The Pilgrim because it's known to do well in shade and I put it on the north facing side of my garden and it gets about 4 hours of sunlight. I just put it in but it's growing well and already blooming. Zone 6b.

    I just got 5 of The Pilgrims for a total of 100$! Apparently they were last years stock, so I got a deal at the local nursery. Spaced them about 3 feet apart each on a north facing brick wall that gets a decent amount of sun in the summer but none in winter, so wish me luck. I spent all afternoon planting them yesterday and i am still tired today😂. They look great so far and these videos like this show the potential of these roses.
    I have about 10 other roses including Monrovia Nitty Gritty in white, Showbiz Floribund both of which were totally worth the 40-50$. I have a Duet Rose tree which is meh so far. And a few Knockouts which are ok to good. But I am most excited about these David Austin's. I'm worried i'm going to become addicted 😂

      Hi! They last for a long time on the plant. I have never counted the actual days, will do it this week for you. But they are always in different stages of bloom on the plant especially because she blooms so voraciously. I have her in kind of a wind tunnel and she is doing quite well. The only thing I would suggest doing in putting her on a trellis. Mine was growing like a shrub rose until last year when it started growing longer stems. Tbh, I don't grow any of my roses for rose hips as I want to maximize the flowers on my rose. I am quite diligent in dead heading the roses so that they don't form rose hips. Having said that, David Austin recommends Malvern Hills, The Lark Ascending and Tottering by Gently for rose hips. I have noticed that my James Galway roses also form rose hips quite easily. Hi Alina, all the names that you see in the video are the actual names of the David Austin roses. I have also included specific information about each of the rose so that should help you pick the right rose for your garden needs. Hope that helps. Cheers!

    The roses are the same it just depends how you grow it.

    • @AmritaBhortake
      @AmritaBhortake  Год назад

      Well, yes and no. That's only partially true as not many roses have the fragrances and petal structure like the David Austin roses. It is also important to look at the location and type of the rose to find the right match for your zone. But yes, it is important to know how to grow roses so you get a huge yield and flowers all year.

    You're doing yourself an injustice by not cutting off spent roses. Because when you cut them off it makes the plant push out more blooms.

      Hi Fia, I agree that you should definitely deadhead spent blooms. It always makes all my roses burst out in even more blooms. In fact here is a detailed video I made just about this topic: How To Deadhead Roses To Grow More Flowers: For Beginners

      @@AmritaBhortake I've been growing roses for most of my life. I recently moved to Fort Worth Texas and starting a whole back yard dedicated to mostly roses. I love hydrangea but they don't seem to do that well here. Do you know of any that I should try here ? Thanks

    I’ve been eyeing the James Galway which is actually still in stock at this point, but you just mentioned something that really makes me think twice about it. You said it didn’t bloom on the bottom like the Pilgrim. I was planning to grow it up a trellis or obelisk but I don’t want something that only blooms at the top! I’m so glad you shared that info! Thanks for such a detailed video
