Not even mentioning that you had a reasonable chance to hunt through and find silver. At least in the shillings and florins that were left in the mix of 5 and 10p coins. Well, a chance, considering the degrees of separation from silver. It surely shouldn't have been impossible. People circulate coins to this day here in America that are twice as expensive by silver value as a pre 1948 50% florin...
I just recently rediscovered your videos and im happy i did!Funny enough the large 50p coins were how I visualized the ones you searched for a while until I realized that the size switch was a thing and you were the one who made me realize.
Somewhere in my house I have the Kew 50p. I put it somewhere for safekeeping, and it's currently in hiding 🙄 Fortunately I live alone and I know I've not spent it, so it will be here! My plan is to hang on to it and sell it when I need the money, hopefully it won't go down in value. I only have it because I saw it when I was working in a shop and thought it looked interesting, so swapped it for some change and when I got home my boyfriend at the time googled it and suggested I hang on to it. Glad I did now!
The old, large, 50p coins have been demonetised. I don’t think that the Bank of England will exchange them. However, it will exchange old notes, even 10/- notes. You do need to explain how you come to have the notes though. Crown coins issued after 1971, either marked 25p, not marked at all, or marked “crown” are still legal tender at 25p, however, earlier crowns before that date, whether marked five shillings, crown or not marked are no longer legal tender.
I remember playing a fruit machine in 1997 when it paid out a new 50p coin. Never having seen one before I took it to the bar and complained that it looked fake. I felt a fight prat when the staff explained.
Hello. I just stumbled across your channel and enjoyed the video. Funny enough I picked up a King Charls the 3rd undated 50p today. It is in near mint condition. I will check out a few of your newest videos.
I like the old 50p’s (I need one or two for my daddy album) but I have to point out that cos they are bigger and heavier you only got 15 coins in the bag (7 old + 8 new) with a face value of £7.50 not £10 as should be in each bag. Even so they where still a cool find.
a couple of years ago at work heard the boss say thats not legal tender so of course i went for a look,,,, he said do you want it Pat so i said yes take it and i will pay for it ,, didnt know anything about big 50ps ,, so when i got home asked on a face book page only to be told it was the duel dated EEC coin ,, worth a bob or 2 ,,, was quite chuffed
My local corner shop always gave me 50ps in my change. Before I took an interest in collecting I TWICE had Kew Gardens and spent it! I was mortified when I realised 😭
Many years ago I had a student on my computer course from the Royal Mint. During the introductions, I enquired, if he'd brought any free samples, sadly he hadn't 😢
Since you dont have any eec 50p in the book… YOU SHOULD PUT THE FIRST ONE IT IN THE BOOK IF IT HAS ENOUGH SPACE!!! If its too big, print its design and put it in the book to show you got that 50p! Lucky for you to get an old 50p!
The 5p and 10p came into being earlier, in April 1968 as the shilling and Florin (2 shilling piece) were the same size as the coins they were replacing. Then, in October 1969 came the 50p (or ten bob bit) as my grandfather called it) with the paper ten shilling note being removed from circulation. Decimalisation Day (or the second D-day) came on 15 February 1971, I got a present of 68 1/2p one coin of every value which my dad had acquired through his boss.
@@ATurtle05 I remember the old 5 and 10p coins. Wonder when the 20p came into circulation and what it replaced? By the way,Im guessing you spent your 68 1/2p on sweets, or have you still got it? 😁
Are the old 50ps worth more than face value yet? I can imagine new collectors who are trying to go back to decimilisation for example paying over the odds
I just wonder if there still someone using the bigger 5p, 10p and 50p dates from 1968 to 1989 (for the 5 and 10p) and 1971 to 1996 (for 50p) in circulation or as form of payment ?
The new silver decimal coins went into circulation in 1969 and ran alongside the 1/- (5p) and 2/- (10p) coins and the 10/- note (50p), not only, as @davidmarchant so rightly says, to pre-empt the sheer volume of coins required to replace the pre-decimal coins in 1971, but also to allow businesses and the general public time to get used to the look and feel of the new coins.
The IRB Battle of Britain coin 2015, is it a 50p coin or not. It does not say it's a 50 pence coin, where the circulating JC does. What are your thoughts on this, or is it a mule error but not recognised by the Royal Mint.
I’m sure you would t have been bothered if there was a 1992 50p in there… 😁 It very unusual they slipped through as they shouldn’t have weighed correctly at the bank, 🤔
Hi I have two off 50 piece of Britannia 1997 and I have the 50p 2011 the running with the stopwatch and the 50p 70 E"R are these worth anything and where can I get Southam

with the younger cashiers in supermarkets if you pay with something that looks like a 50p they take it as 50p not knowing that the large ones were withdrawn, Dont know if the machines accept them, havent tried.
Technically any territory coins are also not legal tender in the UK and we shouldn't accept them. Of course I accept them and stick them straight in my pocket.
I miss the old 5p, 10p and 50p coins; you knew you had change in your pocket, unlike the 'shrapnel' we spend today.

Two very nice Olympics. Strange seeing that amount of of old 50p in the bag’s.👌👍
The chunky 50p's and the 1973 'EEC' are the star finds of the hunt.
just a man enjoying collecting 50p nothing to hate here!

I found an olympic weightlifting 50p coin at a pharmacy to
I have 2 of the large 50ps, D-day and the 1969 one. Nice finds. Also nice to know there were other designs for them.
Nice hunt very unusual that the old bigger 50ps are still out there and no one noticed,Star finds are the 2 Olympics all the best.
You were diddled by £2.50 with the weight of those old 50ps! The cheek!
I found an olympic fencing 50p coin at a pharmacy
Two Olympics and eight large 50p coins a good hunt today 😮

I collect coins too, I even have a bag of uncirculated half penny and pennies that are almost the size of 2p coin.
Oooh! You don't often come across the old large 50ps! Great video!
The 73 EEC gotta be rarer than a KEW in circulation
I love the old 50’s, I still collect them
Nice to see the old 50s. I love how heavy they are!
Interesting to note that the 1973 "EEC" coins were withdrawn early as they needed to get their fingernails cut....
Got a bunch of those old chunky 50p coins also a few £5 coins, something you just don’t see anymore !

The old larger 50ps have to be 🌟 Find. I used to get them in my pocket money when I was young. They made you feel rich 😁
I have an isle of man 50p coin with 2 motorbikes on the back. Not legal tender in England though.

Does the bank still accept the old 50p should you wish to return it?
I have a 2009 Kew gardens 50p and 5 different Olympic ones amongst my many 50ps I have collected over the years
Imagine finding a lines over face swimming. Only one is listed in past listings on eBay and it went for £3,700.

Great stuff Christopher 👍🏻
What is the name of the red mat you use for coin hunting? I'm looking for a similar one, thanks
Coronation 50p has entered circulation according to change checker 🙂
Something tells me that some of the King Charles ones will be worth a lot in the future as he hasn’t got long left.
Where do you get these bags from...post office....bank??
4:49 someone at the bank was being right sneeky to you lol
5:19 at least u didint wet urself lol

!969 50p? I thought we didn't go into decimalization until about 1971-72.
The 50p coin was introduced before decimalisation to replace to ten bob note.

Wow!!!! what a find old school brittainias..how is that possible?😊🤘
The old 50 pence with the hands is amazing design have they ever minted the new 50 pence in that design.
if i ordered a bag of £250 50ps now would they still have queen elizabeth 2nd on them or more likely to be king charles 3rd?
Only £ 7.50 in that mixed bag of new and old 50p's . How does he not notice that?
Notice what?
@@Neil2022£2.50 is missing
Each bag should contain £10 worth of coins. I guess the additional weight of the old 50p's has confused the coin counting machine
Is that not why he said these coins shouldn't be in circulation?
No, sorry, they are major old school coins... 😅 I've got loads...😒 probably worthless 🤷♂️@@williamallport7004
Lol two Diversity in one bag. I still haven't found that one yet 😅
I have a 50p with dolphins on, sort of like swimming in a circle. I don't know if it's a rare one or not though.
Looks like the carpet needs a clean 😊😊
great hunt 2 olympics like the large older 50 Ps
Hello ..in yorkshire call 50p ten bob
still have many old coins from the 70s & 80s like the old half penny
Are the old 50ps worth more than face value yet? I can imagine new collectors who are trying to go back to decimilisation for example paying over the odds
Yeah but not significantly except for the low circulation years.
Time for a towel change lol
I remember getting a Kew coin in my pay packet, thought it was nice then put it in a fruit machine...
Have to admit, I preferred the old ten bob note.
I just wonder if there still someone using the bigger 5p, 10p and 50p dates from 1968 to 1989 (for the 5 and 10p) and 1971 to 1996 (for 50p) in circulation or as form of payment ?
1969 50p New Pence? When was decimalisation, early 1970's I recall.
1971 was when decimalisation went live, but coins were minted in advance from 1969 due to the sheer number that was required.
