Thanks for doing this video I've been wanting to do this for some time now not only due to inflation but finances as well. I shop at both stores, I kinda saw a similarity in prices but not significantly. Both stores are close to me, it'll depend on what I'm shopping for that will determine which store I stop at, like if I need house essentials & such, one stop shop all. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you Jen, for checking out the prices. I like most of Aldi’s products, however, there is never a time when I can get all of my groceries at Aldi. Therefore, I always have to go to another store anyway. With the raising prices, we have to strongly consider what we are purchasing, but there are certain items, that we are brand loyal to. So, I will probably continue to pick up the items, that we like, in multiple stores. Unfortunately, with gas prices, and the closest Aldi and Walmart as well as other grocery stores, being at least 45 minutes away, that plays into my shopping considerations. It was very interesting, however, to see the variation on some items.
I do not have an Aldi where I live, but after watching this video I wish I did, sounds like my grocery budget would benefit from having an Aldi. Love watching your videos, so down to earth, real, informative and fun. Thanks for all your hard work 😊
In San Antonio not many grocery store options. Heb has the market. Closest Aldis in Austin to far away. My refrigerator is empty and I work daily at not minimum wage. Electric bill past due. So sad. Tough times for many. I hope we survive this.
Hi there. Have you applied for energy assistance? www.benefits.gov/benefit/1579 Once approved, you get a chunk of money added to your utility account (can also cover accounts in arrears) that you can use throughout the year. Even if you don't think you'll qualify, apply anyway.
I know it varies from store to store but we have found the produce from walmart to be of a lesser quality. It does not last as long for us. Please take that into consideration.
Great video Jen. I don’t shop at either of these stores. There is a new Aldi in my city, but Walmart is one city over. With gas prices so high I stay in my area . Thanks Jen for all you.do on your channel to help people.
Planted a garden this year but I am not sure how much this will save me due to watering and plants maybe not growing but I see it as learning a new skill just in case groceries become too expensive or not available. I would also like to learn canning (if I get enough produce from my garden). A new Aldi opened in my area and have been loving to shop there. I only have Walmart, Kroger and now Aldi in my small town.
8.9% higher for food, I definitely think it's way more then that. Eggs went from 99 cents to $2.49 at just Kwik trip and that's the "cheap" place, and just one item. Chicken breasts at Fareway here is $4.99lb. Bags of potatoes were 99-1.99 cents and now $2.99.
Thanks for the comparison video. Really informative. I think meal planning is key to saving money at the grocery store. Only buy what you plan on consuming that week as far as meat and produce so there’s no waste. Throwing away food is throwing away money.
Ever since this crazy inflation has been going on, I've been doing Walmart grocery pickup. Using my Walmart Capital One Rewards card, I get 5% cash back, plus since my husband works for Walmart, we get 10% off certain foods as well. It's ended up being cheaper than Aldi because of a) the rewards, and b) no browsing/impulse shopping. I love it.
I do the bulk of my shopping at WalMart and Sam's...only occasionally going in to Aldi. The main reason is the convenience of delivery and pickup without being charged alot more.
Thanks for the comparisons! I find it interesting the prices where you are compared to here. For example, milk is like $1.69 here and chicken breast is almost always cheaper at Aldi than anywhere else. I know it varies based upon where you live in the country.
I find that grocery prices at Aldi are comparable with other stores (in the UK) but they are much cheaper for household and personal care items. I tend to buy my grocery items from Tesco (one of the big 4 supermarket chains) and then head 2 minutes down the street to Aldi for everything else
Aldi prices has gone up the most. It used to give really significant savings. It's still cheaper than my local grocery stores but the price jumps have been drastic week to week. Pretzels went from 88 cents to $1.70 in like 2 weeks.
I have found target beats Walmart for most of my shopping, that surprised me. However both the closest stores are not the super stores. My Aldi is very small so hit or miss with products. I only hit up Hy-Vee for something on super sale.
We shop at Aldi pretty much exclusively for groceries. I was actually surprised by the produce that was cheaper at Walmart, but I also try to focus on buying veggies that are in the sales ad that week as much as possible. When the produce is on sale at Aldi it definitely beats Walmart!
Fun video! It's really interesting to see the price differences everywhrre. Where I live my aldi prices are way higher than yours. Aldi always used to be cheaper for me, but the huge increases have made walmart cheaper on almost everything. I appreciate you doing this video.
I wish I had an Aldi near me. I don't have a Walmart either, although I have a strong dislike for Walmart. I know pretty much everyone has been saying how high eggs have gone up but surprisingly I haven't seen a price change near me. Limes on the other hand gave me a huge sticker shock the other day. They went up from $0.66 each to $0.79 each.
I don't have Aldi, but I'm loving WinCo. Diet coke is still under $6 and they have some great reductions. They are different though. I think the carry the most common items, then they will get shipment the buyers likely find for a good price and the store will mark that stuff accordingly. You could pop in there randomly and find chicken breast for $1.79 lb or chuck roasts for under $4 lb.
This video was super helpful. Thanks! I shop at both stores and try to keep my budget lower by using what I already have to make my meal plan, and also keeping a backup of each item so I'm not running to the store multiple times for one thing.
In my area sams is the cheapest. Then walmart. Then a couple discount stores. Then aldi. We used to buy most of our groceries at aldi. Unfortunately, their prices are now higher than all other stores except 2 in my area. I hope it goes back the way it was before, there are aldi products that are favorites. I miss aldi.....
I always compare Kroger & Walmart cause I can do it on-line. Aldi’s on-line prices are geared for Instacart and are higher than what they are in the store. Our Kroger stores vary from store-to-store here in town, so you just have to pick the one you like & go with it. Thanks for this video. Great information!
Hey I was actually just looking in Aldi‘s walking around the store with the Walmart app. It seems to me that things are slightly very slightly cheaper at Aldie. But not significantly cheaper. Plus I can buy everything on the app and just pick it up rather than spend my time walking through Aldi. I understand that’s a convenience thing but when I did grocery shopping at Walmart and I bought approximately the same at Aldie it wasn’t significantly cheaper Unfortunately
Thank you for doing this. I've been wondering if I should make a special trip to Aldi, but the savings just aren't that much more to warrant a separate shopping trip.
My shopping habits haven’t really changed all that much. I shop ALDI and then my local Hy-Vee or Price Chopper. (Kansas) What I have done is make smaller meals. I cut recipes in half for my husband and I. Less leftover to toss on trash day
Love this video! I shop at Aldi but they don’t carry everything. I shop at Publix for convenience (right across the street) and more organic options. Thank you for doing this video!
The closest Aldi to me is around 30mi so I do most of my grocery shopping at HyVee and WalMart. But I do try to go Aldi when I'm in town & stock up! Thank you for sharing this, it's very helpful 🙂
The closest Aldi to me is about an hour away but luckily it’s the same town my sister lives in so I can go there fairly frequently. I spend way less at Aldi I feel like. Not just on food but then I’m not buying all the decor and clothes and toys etc that I would at Walmart.
We have 2 Walmarts and 2 Aldis in my town. I find Aldi less expensive if you’re good skipping name brands. Produce is hit or miss at both so I always end up at Vons or Ralphs for some things. Thx for comparison though, very interesting.
We're supposed to get a Lidl in my hometown in the next year or so. Can't wait bc I have heard some great things about their storey. Current Lidl is a bit of a drive so I haven't been to one yet.
Very interesting. I did a similar exercise online a couple of weeks ago but with online pick up orders between Walmart vs Kroger. I do buy diet soda, but at Kroger I always buy the 12 pack store brand canned diet soda. My Walmart didn't have the option for buying store brand diet soda, so I picked just diet coke. Without the soda, Walmart was $11 cheaper for my entire order of groceries for the week, but if you added the sodas back, they end up being about the same price total with Kroger's store branch soda versus buying diet Coke at Walmart. I found that to be very interesting.
I guess I could do this myself, but it would be interesting to see how far off the totals are for each store if you bought all the items. 28 items makes for a decent sample size
your deli meat comparison isn't accurate. The slide shows aldi 3.39/lb vs walmart 9.97/lb. Aldi packaging was only 8 oz so the Aldi price should be listed as 6.78/lb (16 oz)
Nice video ! Milk by me is $5-7 prices are way more being I shop local and I don’t have these two stores near me yet once a month I may need to drive out if it’s worth the savings !!!
Thanks for this comparison Jen, very nice. I had a sticker shock earlier today when in my local grocery in the neighborhood. 3 large chicken breasts were priced at over $20! I almost fell out in the store in shock! I am hoping the prices at Aldi haven't jumped that much since your video! It is quite the eye-opener and we just aren't used to that are we?
My food budget is thirty dollars a week for one person, sounds like a lot but I find myself having to choose between meat and fresh produce and the produce is winning. I bought no meat last month and won't buy any this month either and have been stocking up on dried beans....

If I store them in a freezer bag with a damp paper towel, they last for a long time. I find that Walmart has better quality foods. I don't buy any meat, poultry, or fish products from both. I only buy those at large supermarkets (Wegman's, Whole Foods, Giant etc.). Maybe you can do a comparison on that someday?
Thx Jen. Good to know. I especially love the quality and prices of Aldi produce.
Man, I wish we had an Aldi where I live (Hawaii).
I wish I had an Aldi near me. I'm near SLC, UT . The closest Aldi is in Phoenix.
Since Aldi is over a hour from me it’s cheaper to shop at Walmart. Especially since gas prices are out of control.
We don’t have a Walmart or Aldi in our area😥
I was surprised the cheese was as cheap as it was. Thanks! I appreciate your work.
I hope Aldi expands to more locations.
We have 2 Walmart stores and 0 Aldi. I do the majority of my grocery shopping at Dillon's (Kroger).
I just found out I live an hour away from alidi so it treat for my daughter to go there but we shop at our local winn Dixie
Thank you Jen I do shop at both we do try to get stuff that goes on sale that we like thank you for the video this help 🙂❤️❤️❤️
Love these comparison videos.
🌻I don’t shop at Aldi’s
I go to local food store or Walmart for groceries
I get meat from a butcher
I wouldn’t change where I shop
Thanks for doing this…..it was interesting
Excited for this video.
oh no u again
I love this video. I like the great value brand better than many Aldi brands but I still love the shopping experience at Aldi
I’m trying to only do Walmart delivery. I definitely impulse buy any time I go into an actual store. Especially Trader Joe’s lol
We use aldi every week! Love the produce quality!
Not surprised at all. I like Aldi. I don't mind Walmart Neighborhood stores, but hate going in the big stores.
Jen and family have a great week thanks from Oklahoma
Wow eggs at our Aldi was $3.99
Has anyone compared Trader Joe’s? Their prices have not seemed to have changed.
I love Aldi's!
Spend the three cents difference and splurge on the Walmart tortillas. Aldi tortillas are pretty unforgivable
I buy a majority of my groceries at Aldi. I do shop at other stores and have a Sam's Club memebership.
“Conflict” 😅
Your prices back east are a lot lower than here in California
Jill, do you have a Winco near you? Those bulk bins have me jealous!!!
@@CarFreeKC Nope. Never heard of that store. None around here.
@@jilll5014 Oh darn! Well if you're ever driving around California and you see one, worth stopping in! Christine from Frugal Fit Mom shops there a lot I think.
I'm just Thrilled Walmart and Target are losing money big time. They have been gouging us and a lot of people have been boycotting them....it's showing now 😃👍
Alot of people like aldi's. My kids went shopping and didn't like it.
Between groceries and gas....goodness gracious. Talk about having to be a savvy shopper now more than ever. 🤷♀️
Trader Joe's has bananas for 19 cents!
19 cents each though right? They don't weigh things there yeah?
@@CarFreeKC correct
JEN - I THINK SOMEONE IS PRETENDING TO BE YOU!!! SEE REPLIES TO MY OTHER POST. THEY'RE TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TO TEXT A NUMBER. DOESN'T SEEM LIKE SOMETHING YOU WOULD DO.
Wooo I was almost the first one to catch this video.
