@nativeoutdoors1780 that was mostly on the 1600s. Yamaha did recall and replace the transmissions on the affected bikes. They were really good about it.
It is gorgeous, especially at night. Unfortunately, that cluster is also the bike's Achilles heel. They did a bad job of sealing them and they often need replaced due to moisture damage. Costs a bit to replace, too, because the odometer needs to be set and authenticated. I keep a gallon ziploc bag with a magnet in each of its corner to cover the guages in case I get caught in the rain. My speedometer currently works intermittently so I'm having the shop add some silicone caulk to seal the new one before installation.

I am very lucky and I love it - I'm 6' and 255 lbs. so this bike fits me well. It does have lots of power but its smooth and I think pretty easy to drive but at slow speeds it can be hard to keep upright if not careful. I changed the oil myself this fall after watching some videos on it. It has 3 drain plugs. Since at 18K I needed to change the gear oil. This is not easy to do as you have to take off the pipes to get to the drain plug. I am in the process of doing that today. Granted I was in a 250 ninja and left in the dust as well lol. I purchased a Roadstar Silverado back in 2019. I love it. Like this bike it has great power at lower rpm. The price couldn’t be beat. I got mine for 3500 with 32k. All the Harley’s I was looking at made significantly less power and was still in the 6k range with double the miles. I’d love to get a stratoliner myself to have a bigger cruiser for even longer hauls. But the roadstar works well for my size as well being only 150lbs myself. I digress, great review on the bike was very nice to watch this. Very informative and as you said the bike is amazing in itself. Yamaha does a great thing with them and I’m glad they don’t hold a high value. Makes for a great inexpensive bike that will run flawless for long periods of time with little to no maintenance. I just sold my Roadstar to move on to a Stratoliner or Roadliner. Yamaha makes some of the most enduring motors in production. I have had Harleys and would never own another with bikes like this available at very resonable prices. Yamaha Rocks!!
Awesome bike that was grossly underated, pushrod setup looks like a Crocker. The bike unfortunately did not sell well but I always thought it was so cool!
This bikes are amazing! I’m on my second Stratoliner same color but single tone. You’ll never change. This thing has it all looks, speed, and comfort! Really hope to see an update on your bike!
I have this bike... my first cruiser...I haven't had a second of doubt. Engineered low and long which gives it a low center of gravity. Can crank the handlebars all the way for low-speed maneuvering. This thing sails on the hwy, and holds its own past semi winds and gusts! I ride without the windshield too...Wind in my FACE!.... and the bugs too🤣... Reminds me of something I heard once... "Sometimes you're the bug, and sometimes you're the windshield.
Been off my ‘08 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1600 now for 3 years now. Best bike I ever own, and that’s after 45 years of riding. Yep, knees couldn’t take it anymore. You done well.
I have an 06 nomad and it replaced a road king. Much more comfortable and a lot more reliable. I was always a Harley man and never thought at the age of 65 I’d have anything other than a Harley. I’d never go back to that now.
I bought a Stratoliner S when the first came out. I still have it and ride it. I love it and never regretted buying it. It has 55,000 miles now and still runs like new. I don't plan on ever selling it as long as I can ride, then I will go to my son.
What a great bike! I miss riding. A few years back I had several close calls caused by cell phone distracted drivers and got to the point where I was spending way too much time looking for them and not enough time just enjoying the ride. Then I saw one of those ER shows where a rider was cut off by just such a driver, laid his bike down and slid about 100 feet into a gas station sign. His injuries caused the amputation of both his hands and feet, and a week later he had a stroke which complicated his recovery to the point of "why even bother". Add the fact that I'm quite a bit older than when I started riding, and I adhere to the Bonnie Raitt song line "Life gets mighty precious when there's less of it to waste", and that was the final decider. But I sure do miss it. Enjoy it while you are still young, Wizard.
I’ve had some close calls on my motorcycle also, but at the age of 65 I’ve come to the conclusion I’m going to get in all the living I can in the time I have left.
Get a microphone, man. A lot more people will watch if you have a cheap mic instead of voice to text. The headphones that come along with any modern phone would work fine. Also, when you get images for your vids, try to find some in higher resolution. The smaller resolution makes them look fuzzy and hard to look at. You've got more balls than me for actually starting a channel, though! Keep improving!
I have always liked the Star Yamaha Stratoliner. I like the fluting on the tank, although I want a windshield and the darker color, I agree the Art Deco style is sharp...👍
I'll second that, I've ridden Harleys for 25 years and l learned on one. I bought a Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe. A much better bike than any of the HDs I've had. Glad I switched.
I bought a new Strat S on Christmas Eve 2005 . Still going strong. Tires wear out about 5K miles. I’m keeping it as long as possible. It’s advisable to replace the quick disconnects for the saddle bags with clip mount bolt fasteners as some people had them fly off.
I still remember how underwhelmed I was when I rode my buddy's (then new) 1996 Fat Boy for the first time. I owned a 1996 Kawa VN800 at the time (excellent bike - think it was called Vulcan in the States) and that thing felt like a space-age sports-bike compared to the H-D. I also remember being quite scared when I had to brake the Fat Boy for the first time and that I instantly decided that I had done the right thing in getting the Kawasaki and not an 883 Hugger I could've gotten for similar money.
Sweet strato brother! I've got a 14 Raider with the same 1900. I can pull away from all but highly modded harleys and mine cost me just over half of any close to similar power/year of hd. I like harley's too, but pretty hard to justify more power/long term reliability for nearly half the cost. I LOVE all the quick release stuff too. I have the windshield, bags and passenger backrest all quick release on mine. Take it all off in 2 min to cruise town and load it up for trips. Best of both worlds.
I just bought my first bike. 2004 yamaha v star 650 with 8k miles already had cobra pipes. Love this bike. The seating position and power are great for my first bike. The weight worried me at first now I whip it easily. I will upgrade to a larger v star at some point though. The 1900 would be amazing to ride. These are so comfy.
Beautiful Strat Wizard! I started riding 11 years ago. Started on an 04' Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic, then moved up to a 2012 Yamaha V-Star 950 Tourer which I've had from new and still currently ride today. Just like your Strat, it has the factory touring package so it came with the windscreen, back rest and leather saddle bags. It's fuel injected, air cooled and belt driven. I taught my wife to ride around 2012 and she too started out on a Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic which she still rides today. Folks can say what they want about "metric" or "Jap Scrap" bikes etc. as opposed to H-D, but I'm partial to Yamaha. There's not been a single day in 11 years where they failed to start. I've only been left on the side of the road once and that was for the 1st time approx. two weeks ago and that was due to battery that developed a bad cell causing me to lose all power in the electrical system. But, it was the original battery from 2012! I keep both bikes on a tender year round and it certainly helps prolong battery life. Good luck with your new bike, I'm certain it will serve you well.
Sean, told me about this video when I stopped to see him last month at his shop. I have a 2010 Strat. and I absolutely love it. Picked mine up for about 5G and it only had 11,000 miles on it. Great and fast bike with a lot of style. I’ve had Harley’s, Suzuki’s and even the reliable Honda’s too. Very pleased and impressed with this Yamaha. Great video and thanks to Sean I am now a subscriber too. I enjoy watching you both and keep them coming 👍 🏍
I have the first 2006 Stratoliner imported into Portugal. I saw the images for the bike on the internet, I printed an image out, and showed it to the local Yamaha dealer, and he had no idea what this bike was. I had to wait months for the bike to be delivered. Since then I rode through Spain, France, Portugal, Belgium, and Holland. My bike´s name is Pearl, and she is my friend and companion. She has saved my life at least 3 times. I keep her all stock parts. She is the most beautiful machine ever made. In every country, when I stop for gas, I always get people coming up and asking about her.
I've put about about 8k miles on mine since I got mine spring of last year. It's the stablemate to my R1200GS, and I daily drive both. The Stratoliner is one of the single smoothest V-twins I've ever ridden. I have a few holes drilled into the pipe, and it sounds incredible.
I have a Yamaha from around the same time period ('05 fz1) and it's so well though out. The engineers designed everything to make it easy to take apart, and wrenching on it is a lot of fun.
I know it is long ago, but this was a great and very informative video! You explained things thoroughly and clearly. I wish I could find more videos like this one! Thanks!😎👍
I've got an 06 Roadliner. Beats my friends on Harleys, even when they aren't too busy breaking down on the side of the highway. I take long trips, it's cheap and easy to maintain and super reliable. Starts everytime, and I know when I turn that key, it will get me where I'm going. Best bike I've ever owned
I love Harleys, but actually love Yamahas too. Always have. I own 2 Harleys, and will soon own a 2006 root beer colored Strat like yours. The Strat is Yamahas flagship and has all the fit and finish of your most expensive Harley. I won't sell my Harleys but I'm excited to become a Strat owner. Thx for this great video.
Love that 1900 VTwin. I've got the 2014 Raider S...The same bike, just more stripped down...Though I've added a fairing and some throwover bags. Thanks for sharing! Love seeing them big Vtwin Yamahas.
What a beautiful bike with all that chrome. I like the gauge cluster and the design. I know you will enjoy it Wizard. Congratulations and thankyou for sharing.
Congrat's. That bike looks new! I have the exact bike and trust me, it takes a CVO Harley to keep up with a tuned Strat. Depreciation means nothing if you NEVER sell. Harley matter's if you are the kind of guy that wants to buy tons of aftermarket accessories. With the Stratoliner, so much of the design is flawless there isn't much to improve on.
Congratulations ! Your enthusiastic description is contagious. I remember my new 1988 883 and indeed you can get numb hands on that. true story I went through 3 wrist watches before learning I better use a pocket watch on the piglet...ps I averaged of 30k miles in two years and sold it for what I paid but like you said "that's Harley"
Welcome to the family, Bro! I own a 2014 Strat S, and it's basically a Roadliner most of the time, and a fully touring Stratoliner when I need it to be. I have two different height windshields, (Memphis lowers for buffeting), and a full-face helmet for riding without one at all, obviously the sissy bar is detachable, and I made the bags truly detachable without that ugly ass bar underneath. With the back seat removed, it just looks like a monster, -especially after I lowered it-, and with aftermarket exhaust and updated intake this thing screams. I've told plenty of Harley dudes that if they want me to own a Harley so bad, let's race for pinks.
I own a 2006 Roadliner and I punked a Harley half my size. He lives in my neighborhood and he tried to punk me on the highway. I shot by him like he was sitting still. He had a shocked look on his face.
I am a Harley and Honda owner, bike is beautiful hope it provides you with many wonderful adventures. I had never heard of this model before. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Enjoy your media on youtube wizard keep the videos coming.
I love this bike, the artdeco styling that gorgeous speedometer , the power , I'm definitely getting one lol and I found about this from Sean's channel srkcycles too
08680868 I bought one new, 2008. 60000km, no problems what so ever. I strongly regret trading that bike in for a FJR. Nowadays, I drive a K 1600 GTL 2018, and a 2008 Road King Classic.
I have a 2014 Yamaha Raider! Your bike, with thinner lines and a slightly raked out fork! Same engine and drive train, same monsterous power plant placed on a stripped down chassis devoid of windshield, fairing, saddlebags,or any other weight downs! A real muscle cruiser!!! Love to go for a cruise with you...we have the same engine!!!
Nice retro art deco styling. I once had a Honda GL1000 Goldwing and it also drove as smooth as a Cadillac! My favorite ride nowadays is the 1984 Suzuki Katana popup. In those days a design revolution, and it still turns heads. Well done Wizard, enjoy your ride, it suits you well!
Had this same exact bike Car Wizard. Mine had a Corbin seat that was night and day difference than the stock seat for comfort. Would suggest that as the first upgrade. You are right, this bike has great power and rides so smooth.
Mrs. Wizard please keep Mr. Wizard on a short leash as he has the Bike of he desires, he goes well with the Art Deco styling of the bike and he's Bad to the Bone. I love the styling and will be looking for the same I've got a friend with a harley he keeps bugging me to get one. Harleys are great but The Wizard just turned me on to the styling of days gone by. Thanks to the Wizard , Wish yall would do 3/4 and 1 ton truck review as im in the market for one of them currently....Mad Props
Thanks for posting this. Recently found a Roadliner for sale, but sort of hesitate to trade my Honda Interstate. This is very informative and helpful for someone looking to buy one of these Yamaha's.
John Honda I am too! Started with YZ125, then a YZF600R, and then an R1. I worked for the largest Honda/Yamaha dealer in ATL for a number of years and always preferred the Yams over the Hondas (with the exception of the touring bikes and then it was the Goldwings, hands down).
Nice, I want one. my first and only bike was a 79 Yamaha 750 3 cylinder and had 45hp. I loved that bike put like 30,000 on it the first year I had it, 2700 out the door. Drove it off the showroom floor. Rode all over California on that bike. Would love another one but my body is too old now. Happy Riding.
I've got a blue '09 with 15k miles and had a sliver '14. Love these bikes. Wish they had larger fuel capacity though. Been cross country in them several times great bikes.

????????😔
2006 Roadliner S here. Love the bike !!!
Wizard having fun showing off his new toy.
I love the Car Wizard! He is the inspiration to my new automotive channel!
Awesome! Interesting how one man can inspire so many! (I'm talking about the Car Wizard!)
I bet you'll never want to buy a Harley again...congrats on buying a quality Japanese bike. They're fantastic.
Shawn is the man when it comes to bikes, and beards...
And so is the Wizard!
The Wizard is getting very good at presenting, he’s not choked up at all. Smooth as butter.
Gotta love the big cruisers. I considered a Stratloiner when I went to buy a bike. I ended up with a very similar Triumph. A 2014 Thunderbird LT.
Valkyrie. 😉🐝
I got my Stratoliner the first year they came out, love it the 2006 has never given me a problem!!
Enjoy you new bike David! I had an 2006 Stratoliner as well. It was a great bike. Reliable and comfortable with all the power you'll ever need.
Yes! More motorcycle content! I always love your videos man, they always put a smile on my face! Congrats on the new bike! Ride safe :)!
Wow, extremely good choice, Wizard! Excellent styling. Perfect harmony between form and function.
I put a transmission in one of those. I was really impressed with the torque it had, which is how the owner broke the trans.
Harley Davidson, make in Mexico, assembled in Milwaukee. Beautful bike Wizard!
Bwahahaha !! 🤣🤣🤣
Very happy to see you and your videos. Great person
I have a Yamaha from around the same time period ('05 fz1) and it's so well though out. The engineers designed everything to make it easy to take apart, and wrenching on it is a lot of fun.
Great video. You really did your homework!! I have a 2006 Stratoliner Midnight that I have had for 7 years. Love it.
I know it is long ago, but this was a great and very informative video! You explained things thoroughly and clearly. I wish I could find more videos like this one! Thanks!😎👍
After the 2001 Prelude disaster your daughter will really enjoy testing your new bike!
I just found my new favorite bike :) Thanks, Wizard!
Ahahahahahhhhh 😅😅😮😮😅
I've got an 06 Roadliner. Beats my friends on Harleys, even when they aren't too busy breaking down on the side of the highway. I take long trips, it's cheap and easy to maintain and super reliable. Starts everytime, and I know when I turn that key, it will get me where I'm going. Best bike I've ever owned
Indeed that has a lot of power and torque. I am glad that you will be doing videos on motorcycles now as well.
Beautiful Bike. It's so nice it looks like it belongs in a Museum. That headlight is aesthetically a work of art.
Love my '06 Roadliner. Such a beautiful beast from the East.
OMG OMG 😍😍😍😍 welcome to the stratoliner club
Those Stratoliners and Roadliners are beautiful bikes!
I really appreciate this video. Wizard, please do MORE bikes!
No thats a Sportster before they rubber mounted the engines. Now the are pretty great bikes.
no.....that's the beginnings of carpal tunnel syndrome
I did de-emblem mine. it's got enough of what I call Cadillac style already so I had to "mean it up" just a little bit.
I own a 2006 Roadliner and I punked a Harley half my size. He lives in my neighborhood and he tried to punk me on the highway. I shot by him like he was sitting still. He had a shocked look on his face.
I used to have a Yamaha Warrior 1700, they make great cruisers. You've made a great purchase Wizard, absolutely beautiful motorcycle.
Hi Wizard. After watching Shawn from SRK, I too bought the same exact bike you bought. I found a 2006 with 4900 miles! Love the bike!
Those Yamaha bikes are so STRONG ....sound so GOOD
This has to be the best video about the Roadliner /Stratoliner ever.I am convinced.I am seeing about buying one tomorrow. There are not many about.
I just bought one.2013 Midnight
I am a Harley and Honda owner, bike is beautiful hope it provides you with many wonderful adventures. I had never heard of this model before. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Enjoy your media on youtube wizard keep the videos coming.
It's not really my style of bike but I have to admit that's a beautiful example. Glad to hear you got your dream bike. Your clearly happy with it 👍
I have a 2014 Raider...just between us.....I would have never given your powerhouse away!! But glad you found a new one,!!!
This is a great explanation and display of a motorcycle. Nice job
I love this bike, the artdeco styling that gorgeous speedometer , the power , I'm definitely getting one lol and I found about this from Sean's channel srkcycles too
08680868
I bought one new, 2008. 60000km, no problems what so ever.
I strongly regret trading that bike in for a FJR.
Nowadays, I drive a K 1600 GTL 2018, and a 2008 Road King Classic.
Please make more videos on motorcycles and repairs on them! This bike is awesome!
One of the best bikes I have seen. Thanks for the great content
Im a Yamaha man through and through. (i get the irony of John honda though)
I prefer Yamaha over Honda also I have a 77 IT 175 85 IT 200 and a 96 TW200
best motor engineers on the planet i loved my first gen R1 built like a tank, light, and still reliable with a heavily built motor on the street.
John Honda LOVE yams. Started on yz and now up to xvs1100 and xv1600 and adore them
Dax Rollman my 2002 R1 STILL scares the shit out of me! Haha
I subscribed just because you bought this motorcycle. I'm taking my Roadliner S on a cross state road trip this weekend.
Very nice!! Always found the art deco styling to be unique and timeless. Almost got one before I found my Honda F6B. Gotta love a big bore cruiser!
Perfect vehicle combo to have. That Eldo, and this bike. Now that would be a sweet combo
I have two Stratoliners . 2006 and a 2009 . I love them.
Im on my second roadstar..2000 silverado...love these bikes...enjoy ur new toy!!
