Dean, I really enjoy your vids. Why you ask? 1. The sound quality is excellent. On some other vids the sound is so “produced” that the drums don’t sound natural. 2. Your playing is spot on. None of this “let’s see how fast I can go around the kit or cram all 26 rudiments while doing it!”😀🥁
Cheers, I use eq verb compression etc just to enhance the sound that the drums produce, with vids like this, I’m in between practicing and trying to be musical while I run thru things.

yeh i listen to live debates while I practice, um, it’s all easy stuff using basic rudiments, I try and keep it clean, I work on that a lot
Hi Dean, huge fan from Germany here. Please let me ask you a question: is your playing at such a relative low volume a part of your beautiful sound? And are your accents and backbeats on the snare always rimshots? Love your fluidity and great timing!
I do hit hard at times, altho it doesn’t look like it because it’s mostly from the wrists and I keep my heights low, there’s no need to hit hard, it doesn’t help the sound, just hit with intensity, i do use rimshots a lot in my backbeats too. I find playing quieter and low helps regulate timing and speed if you need it, less distance for the stick to travel.
