Doctor Who Review The Star Beast 60th anniversary special. After the video yesterday covering some of the main clips and Russell T Davies reasoning for making the episode like this in the first place. Now it's the full Doctor Who review breakdown, and boy, is there a lot to this one. While there were some good scenes, I couldn't enjoy them because I was always waiting for another sledgehammer of Russell's to hit me in the face and it always came. This was never intended to be entertainment, this was meant to feed you the new morality of Hollywood. The BBC is bad enough but now, it's in combination with Disney+, what a wonderful combination! But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)
I think I agree with Dave Cullen on this one. Just walk away. Don't watch the show. Don't complain about it. Let it get cancelled, and it will eventually.... and hope someone brings it back in a few years without " THE MESSAGE". Let the ratings speak for themselves. This horse is long dead. Lets stop beating it.
“Shame you’re not a woman anymore, cause she’d have understood” 🤢🤮 As a woman, I find this statement disgustingly condescending. Can we please stop portraying women as nasty and mean?
I agree. Its not even a good portrayal of a bitch. It's like these people have ever seen a woman irl. Chicks are vicious verbally but it's never blunt? On the nose? We do a lot of body language and tone or wordplay. Like Michele feifer in hairspray "oh! New clothes? You'll stop traffic!" Written doesn't look bad but seeing the scene it's bitchy as hell lol.
A nail? There are so many in the coffin I think it's become an iron maiden. If you put an ear to the wood you can hear Dr Who screaming to be let out... Oh, no. Sorry. It's just the Dr Who audience being tortured.
“That” line is literally the worst line in the series’ history and wow, just wow it really damages the character. This is a man who burned his own planet to save the universe (and then saved it). This is a man who spent a few billion years in a dial, punching through diamond to save his companion. I mean, no-one else in the universe can claim to have done more good than The Doctor. RTD has really misread the room.
This is also a man (literally the SAME man ) who sacrificed himself to save Wilf. Who as the 5th Doctor sacrificed himself to save Peri. Who as the 4th Doctor sacrificed himself to save the universe from the Master. Who as the 3rd Doctor sacrificed himself to save Earth and the universe from the Metabelis spiders. What has that smug self satisfied little twerp ever done?
Which you'd think Donna, of all people, would know, since they literally had the "Turn Left" episode for her where The Doctor dying under the Thames caused everything to start progressively going to shit, culminating in the stars themselves going out. She of all people knows how much good he's done, especially with her memories back, cause he saved the entire universe from the Daleks' Reality Bomb in her final episode.
Bravo! Not one person on Earth expected Robyn Hood to be good but Russell T Davies crushed the hopes of a large percentant of the planet. Doctor Who 2023 Special. Raising (lowering) the bar for Worst Show Of The Year.
Robyn Hood is still worse. Nobody stole anything or broke the law on a daily basis, on Dr. Who. Nobody was passing around a condom jar. I could go on, but I digress.
Just some notes. 1) his annoyance at Donna's husband seems totally manufactured and he's making crap up - a woman not wanting her husband's last name is hardly anything new. 2) "why are UNIT putting out flames" because it was on fire and shot through the sky to the point someone says it was a plane crashing.
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” ― George Orwell, 1984
At this point, I don't know why there isn't an award for "Best character annihilation" and "Best franchise annihilation" (the competition would be insane)
Nerdrotic had a good video for Top 5 Murdered Franchises a few years ago, Doctor Who was certainly in it though I can't remember if it took first place.
David Tennants 'staring at Donna and Rose' face is actually perfect. It is the perfect 'watching the house burn around you' disbelieving stunned horror meme face.
David Tennant is a good enough actor to KNOW that this is a bad script. And he's a big enough Whovian to KNOW this is the death of his legacy. But he's also woke enough to care more about the message. Truly sad.
"This is fine! Plus I have a daughter who is beautiful and gorgeous and if I haven't mentioned recently my daughter is a girl and beautiful and I have a daughter."
I'm not even a fan and that hurt me. I feel for you guys. I watched a bit during the Tennant run cause my brothers a huge dr who fan and would play it often and beg me to watch.
I'm so tired of seeing shows and movies that do this. It's just making all of us normal, reasonable women look like we're superior, men-hating assholes. It also shows lack of talent in writing if they have to resort to taking cheap shots at men in order to make the female characters look better, for no reason except that they are female. Maybe if they spent less time degrading and tearing men down, they could write some better female characters and more interesting stories to go along with them. Seriously, I'm sick of this pandering bullshit.
Just going to point out: up until this episode, the only ones who ever accused the Doctor of "knowing nothing" were the villains/antagonists. (Or their victims, but with despair). I would only expect companions to say that to the Doctor if he was an imposter and they knew it
I agree w Russel. Seeing Darth Vader as a child set me up for a lifetime of resentment towards people w COPD and burn victims. George Lucas is definitely on the wrong side of history.

I rarely actually scream at my TV, cuz I know the little people in the box can't hear me, but I broke from tradition and spoke in tongues like I was in small town Texas church as I screamed at the screen for a good minute or so when I saw that bit. Needless to say, I've had quite enough of this year's parade of shite.
David Tennants expression was actually perfect during that smug speech Donna and Rose gave. “You dumbasses are awfully smug considering you just did what I was about to tell you to do.
I'm glad RTD warned us about the real dangers. Now I understand why, every time I use my inhaler for asthma or feel that pain in my bad knee, I have to resist the urge to turn to the Dark Side
People with disabilities only ever became “evil” when they were bullied into it by people treating them different. I guess that says more about how RTD treated the disabled kids in his elementary school.
@@settame1 interesting that you mention that. I was remembering from my early school days (~4th grade?) A new kid showed up who was paralyzed below the waist, and he lashed out constantly, and often literally: hitting anyone ANYONE that came near him. But after a few months of nobody being mean to him, mostly just puzzled; there was a day it was like a switch was flicked and he was all happy and friendly. Since he used to be homeschooled with a neighborhood, well... i think it's sadly safe to assume they weren't good people. But once he got away and discovered kindness: flipped on a dime. 🤔 so, it's interesting that you bring that up...

Not a Dr Who fan, just here to lend moral support to the fans. I'm sure this is exact feeling that I had after seeing SW TFA, and then making such a mess of it. The absolute sadness at seeing a great opportunity WASTED. Bringing back iconic characters with their original actors, only to embarrass and destroy them, it's sick. These people are gross.
Thanks mate. My earliest memory of Doctor Who is from 1977, never missed an episode, to see it go the way it has been going for the last few year is 'disheartening'.
As a lifelong Star Wars fan, i can empathize as well. A Dr. Who fan watching this episode must have gone through similiar thoughts and feelings I experienced while I watched helplessly as Disney absolutely desecrated my favorite character, Obi-Wan Kenobi, IN HIS OWN SELF TITLED SERIES.. We as fans of these works, must band together, offer support to each other to stand up afainst these corporate outsiders who feign appreciation and respect of these properties intent to maliciously usurp the audience and loyalty of these beloved works, retcon the storylines, characters, histories etc., and forcibly inject their tired, uninspired, vapid, cookie cut, propagandish agenda and push "The Message" which, more often than not, outright failed to stand on its own merits or were flat out rejected many times over when pitched at face value, in hopes they will be granted acceptance, given all respect and accolades and garner massively positive viewership once they hijack an established franchise to get their "message" heard/seen. These people are cancerous and parasitic. Any and all of their attempts, regardless of the property, should be stamped out by fandoms across genres, as a whole.
Yeah, being a former Star Wars fan, all of this has become just another Tuesday. Current year I try to avoid and/or wet anything that involves nostalgia. It’s ultimately better to not have seen something than to get all your nostalgia ruined and abused for some quick bucks.
When I heard that “after that I wore a bow tie, after that I was a scotsman, after that I was a woman” I had to think about how Rose Tyler said “you sound like you come from the north” the Eccleston doctor just said “lots of planets have a north”. It’s just so different in the writing. It’s like now just things are said, expository dialogue delivered, that’s it. There’s no wit, no smirk, no smile, no confidence, no character to be found. It’s like skin walker imitating humans.
Yeah, the original writing would've had it "I've... been busy. Yourself?" and left it at that. Maybe a reference to "Well, I got married... to the woman who killed me - Ooh, I was a robot for a moment!" Hide the exposition by making it sound as absurd as possible.
@@RathkrynAnd we are talking time travelers here, so there would have been no issue with an older version showing up. But they had to change the rules for regenerations once more, just to make their point, which at this point must be „we hate the fans“.
@@davidgantenbein9362 we literally don't even know why the face came back, lmao. That's literally a plot point that's brought up a few times throughout the episode
I didn’t discover Doctor Who until the 2005 version and I found it to be utterly fantastic. I bogged down a little with Peter Capaldi but on second viewing I appreciated him much more. Then came Jodie Whittaker. It wasn’t her alone, it was the complete change in the dynamics of the show. For me, that marked the death of Doctor Who. Everything that they do now is just spitting on the grave.
Capaldi was my first doctor change. I started watching in Matt Smiths era. I didnt like the older doctor at first I was used to younger one but Capaldi really won you over. His time was the beginning of the end and the start of this new nonsense. We should have seen it first with Missy but Gomez was such a great actress that it was pretty good. We should have said no to that because that was the beginning of this crap.
@@douglashyslop2209 Missy was a lot of fun...she got really tethered and bland as a character in Season 10, but I found her a delightful villain and a great foil to Capaldi's Doctor.
I'm nearly 66 and I simply don't remember any actual instances of disability being considered evil, but it was a medieval trope, so we've been given a cure for a disease long cured. The issue was always one of not wanting disability visible, because it made the able insecure and uncomfortable, but again that's an issue that I've seen kicked into touch in my own lifetime. Seems to me Mr. Davies wants to put things back to how they were so he can 'solve' the problem all over again and feel relevant once more. It's a mid life crisis mate (like Michael Gove putting penmanship back on the Primary curriculum). Get over yourself.
The Davros trope was also a different one: the genius in a wheelchair not the disabled are evil. Davros is in line with Charles Xavier from the X-Men on the trope scale of things. He was always meant to be the mentally frightening evil as opposed to the physically frightening evil.
RTD is an operative with orders to divide people along imaginary lines and make them fight each others instead of uniting to defeat their oppressors. There you go, some facts.
The "don't judge a book by its cover" plot with the ugly aliens being the good guys and the cute one being evil was done already by the FIRST Doctor. Galaxy 4, Season 3, broadcast in 1965.
Actually, guys, "Beep of the Meeps" was originally published in a Dr. Who magazine in the early 1980's, and reprinted by Marvel Comics for America. This story followed the comic pretty much beat-for-beat, with no surprises at all ... just a bunch of modern politics.
Donna Noble in my opinion was an abrasive character who in her original stint in the show, had her own personality, and didn’t allow Ten to get away with anything. They had this cute friendship, that spilled chemistry. Now they created this ugly, spiteful character that allowed their kid to do something that should only occur in adulthood, and _only_ after a shite ton of therapy. Having to be told over and over and over how _beautiful_ her kid is. 🙄🤦🏻♀️ This show used to be so much fun to watch. As far as I’m concerned the series is dead, died after Twelve left. No political, gender, identity politics, or gender BS, we just want cheesy, low budget Sci Fi. And if RTD is incapable of doing just that, then he doesn’t deserve a writing career. As I said before, he’s a coward, will always be one. If he’s unwilling to retcon The Timeless Children, because his -boy- his bestie wrote. Then we can’t expect this series to continue. And I’ll enjoy y’all ripping the 15th Doctors stores to shreds. It will be glorious. 😂👍
@@Jiub_SNWell, it's hard to believe that if you watch the interviews and behind the scenes of making this with Davies.... I mean I suppose everything he said could be explained if it's just because he's so terrified of getting canned if he doesn't go along with this crap.
The 10th doctor was my favourite, so while I'm elated they brought David back, I am sad that it was so short and so poorly written. And BTW, we won't be able to criticize 15, because they will make us into racists, just like when we didn't like 13, we were called women hating pigs when all we wanted was a little bit more quality. But tbf after implying that I'm a horrible person for wanting to enjoy the show, I vowed not to watch her until there is a 14th doctor.
"Only adults should be allowed to do this" is a weak position. As soon as you let your society believe that women can be men and men can be women, its over. What did you think was gonna happen when you accepted the gender bender lies being pushed on adults? Did you really think the evil cult would stop at that? Of course they werent gonna do that. They never stop. They always push harder and further. They were always gonna come for the kids.
So the best part about the wheelchair and Newton's Law is that it wouldn't necessarily affect her... just the chair. So the chair goes flying and she is momentarily seated in the air like a loony toon, before slamming into the ground.
They did it, they did the meme! The unironically said "Are you assuming pronouns"! It truly boggles the mind that the fanbase said "Eh, we don't really like the focus on THE MESSAGE, and BBC said "Let's double down on THE MESSAGE, just bring back Tennant, they'll eat up that slop!"
I was astonished. I thought the plan was to use Tennant and Tate to rebuild the audience for Gatwa. I can see the sense in that. Giving them a script that’s the equal of Whitakers worst will cause many people to give up. I got through it, then the Special came on. When new Davros came on I just got up and walked out. Had enough.
I'm astonished as to how people don't get that scene was literally meant to piss off bigots. In case you didn't know: no trans person actually says that stuff in their daily life.
@@pirate1876 looks to me like pointlessly dumping his idiot views into a script, and the whole thing was designed to annoy normal people. Giving parts to people who cannot even slightly act because of their made up identity. Repeatedly calling a bloke in a dress beautiful, compared to what ?
I don't fault people for getting the "bag" as the kids say these days, but damn, wait until a finished script or have a contract with full creative control over your character or something. Seriously. Do these people know they could have died as legends, but are now gonna die as middling hacks?
Fans often make the mistake and confuse the actor with the character. David Tenant isn’t Dr Who, he just plays him. Maybe he is in for the money, maybe he thought the script is great, maybe he doesn’t care and wants to play Shakespeare instead or maybe he just loves The Message. Who knows, I don’t know the guy.
@@davidgantenbein9362 very true. Could be Tenant just wanted to resume a role he enjoyed playing regardless of the script. I think his legacy though won't be tarnished because over time this abomination will fade from memory just like many bad sequels to popular films are.
I am a doctor who nerd. I was excited to see the return of David Tennant. I didn't expect it to be bad. I couldn't bare more than the first 20 minutes.
It’s made me go back and watch the good old days. I didn’t even tune in for this because, deep down, I knew they’d do something like this. I just didn’t think it would be this IN YOUR FACE. My heart broke a bit when I heard him say “Allons-y!”. Like, I know acting is a job, but when you meet countless fans who love your work, how can you not stick up for them?
"We can give up the power because we're so smart and better than you." "You HAVE to give up the power because you'll die because your body can't handle it. Mine can." "That's just what a misogynist would say!"
When Donna had her mind wiped she resisted because she didn't want to forget her time with the Doctor - her best friend - and lose the life of travelling with him. It had nothing to do with not wanting to let go of the power of the metacrisis...
I've seen a lot of references to the horrible "The Doctor can't understand because his dangly bits identify as male" but I kept waiting to find out what grand, amazing revelation was hidden from him so well, yet could be easily understood by a person that merely says they're a woman and... it was that they could just let go of the power? Really? REALLY?!?! You don't think they would've tried that the first time? What in the fuck does that have to do with gender identity? Is this some sort of "all men desire power, it's a feature of toxic masculinity, so none could possibly fathom giving up power even if it kills them"? This is so much worse than I thought and they already redefined how low they could just with the setup.
Sulla became dictator of Rome, purged the Republic of most of his political enemies (creating a host of new ones in the process) and then just _retired._ Like “Okay, job’s done, you can have it back now.” But yeah okay that’s something _girls_ understand 🤣
@@jeremytitus9519 Sticking with Rome, Diocletian rose to power, became emperor, did everything he could to save the faltering empire, rebuilt the whole thing, was ruthless in many of his edicts. ...and then, stepped down and went back to his family farm in Dalmatia and raised cabbages for the rest of his life.
I thought the male 🐏 part about not letting go was a joke about guys holding it in 😜 While females let it go 💦 Even when the doctor was a women he probably didn't dance much 😎🇺🇸🦅
Because all the power that men have from inventing, building, and maintaining the entire world, needs to be given up and given to vvhamens. That's the insane message.
Plot twist when Meep heard the daughter ask about pronouns instead of 1000 other more interesting things that’s what actually turned Meep evil he just made up the psychedelic sun as an excuse.
Funny they dressed down the doctor for pronouns & then call him a male presenting time lord. did they just assume his pronouns? Just saying...RTD writing is pretty biased.
I would watch a show about the Meep and his zany misadventures as he tries to conquer various planets while insulting people. He could have equally-deranged alien accomplices and everything. Basically, we'd wind up with It's Always Sunny in Space.
Bringing David Tennant back just to belittle him is awful. The only thing I liked was the opening title sequence. The episode itself put me through a roller coaster of constant unanswered questions, irritation and boredom. And you're right. The Meep is actually the hero of this story
Wait, the bug aliens genocided the meeps, and we're not supposed to sympathize with the last surviving meep? Even if he's crazy/evil, I can't really blame him for trying to escape. 🤨
Russell T. Davies actively going along with this ruination after his acclaimed run on _Doctor Who_ is the equivalent of Chris Claremont coming back to writing the X-Men, not retconning all the mistakes that have been taking place after his run, embracing those mistakes, and saying that we need to give Mojo a spine because we can't associate deformities with evil. That's the best example that I can give for those who aren't _Doctor Who_ fans for how bad that franchise has become.
RTD wrote some good episodes like Bad Wolf, Left Turn, Midnight, Tooth and Claw etc but the 60th anniversary was appalling and he should be ashamed. I have packed my nu-Who (2005 onwards) DVDs away and I will never watch them again.
In the BBC’s own review of the show, it was described as “nothing more than a vehicle to deliver The Message”!! I feel bad for the old school fans, their last chance of a few good episodes of Dr. Who turned into this…
I don't feel bad for the fans, they enable this garbage. It's just like people who wine about loot boxes in video games, but still buy the games. I know it's not a perfect analogy, but it is similar. If you're not willing to dip out when it's headed south to send a message, then you're part of the problem imo. Whining on Twitter doesn't mean crap, they just ignore it. You need to send a message that hits them in the bank account.
@@readhistory2023 yes now they are, now that it's absolutely destroyed. My point is, people could have made a stand ages ago, and didn't. I can't be too upset or suprised consider most people are weak and/or stupid these days.
The best part of the show is the unintentional bit - trans ideology as an allegory for Donna’s memory loss. As long as we never recognize reality, everything is fine….
Russell T Davies falls to Roald Dahl Evil Grownup Syndrome - "I'm smart, you're dumb, I'm big, you're little, I'm right, you're wrong, and there's nothing you can do about it."
See, when I found out about and saw the Doctor (and her costume) regenerating into David Tennant, I knew it stank of desperation because the creators of the show knew they were losing their audience. Hell, they lost me after Kill the Moon. I wasn't going to watch the special, but at the last minute I changed my mind and decided to give it a go. I remembered that Bernard Cribbins died and realized Wilfred Mott, a beloved character played by a wonderful actor, wouldn't be in the show anymore, so I wondered how they were going to acknowledge him. David Tennant's performance in that scene when the Doctor mourns and pays respect to Wilf is superb. It perfectly expresses what the Doctor and a lot of the fans would be feeling. I can't compliment it enough. But then it's ruined when the writer makes it into a joke in which Donna and Sylvia nastily chastize him for having those emotions. In amongst the nonsensical plot and the Luke Skywalker treatment, that scene right there made it clear to me. Russel T. Davies has shown he has no respect for his art, his actors, his fans, or himself. I already knew this show was no longer worth my time, but there was a spark of goodwill left. Now, it's been snuffed out. It stings to feel my investment has ultimately been for nought. No more.
That scene feels like it condenses most of the worst tendencies of woke writing into a single moment. Here's the show building up an expectation and even emotions in the audience, only to slap them in the face and belittle them for having justified expectations and feelings. The one moment in the entire episode where the audience might have felt anything other than frustration and bitter disappointment, and they just had to subvert it. Because god forbid we give the audience what it wants.
and such an odd way to do it, RTD used to be famous for his soap opera style Doctor Who, bringing in emotions and feelings, but to do that setup and then pay it off like that, was an insult both to the character, to the actor who was a beloved actor in anything he appeared in, and had a long history in Doctor Who, something a 60th anniversary might have wanted to pay tribute to. It felt spiteful and I dont know why RTD would do that.
@awavey I have to admit that I lost my respect for RTD as a writer when I read his collected emails book. He seemed to treat writing as just a necessary duty. There didn't seem to be any care taken, he was ok with cobbling together endings just because they were an easy way to resolve the plot. Jack Warner used to tell his wroters, It doesn't matter how good a movie is, if the end is crap, so is the movie. And so many RTD stories seemed to turn crap in the last 5 minutes.
Claiming Wilf is alive as well when the Actor has passed felt wrong too, They did not do that with The Brigadier thank god, Moffatt had some decency there.
Does no one remember series 1? After Rose absorbs the Tardis the Doctor pleads with her to just "let it go" and Rose replies "Why, this much power, I cant" she just destroyed the Daleks and made Jack immortal and ultimately the Doctor had to take the power from her then he "lets it go". I get that this instance is the power of the Tardis instead of regeneration/metacrisis energy but the message is the same.
As for RTD being the Avenger of the Disabled, I believe it was Az who pointed out at least SIX disabled heroes: Professor Charles Xavier, Oracle / Barbara Gordon, Daredevil, Cyborg, Geordi LaForge, LUKE FUCKING SKYWALKER… Take a swan dive into a black hole, Russel.
Real fans that use a wheelchair would know that Davros’s life support system floats off the ground by modifying gravity in the lore. Should I feel like everyone sees me as evil when I’m riding around on my zero turn lawnmower?

I actually liked it, thought it was a bit cringe in some parts mostly just one but I can let it slide. Everything else was enjoyable. Idk why everyone says it's dead now. Thought it was a bit better than 13, only cause I wasn't falling asleep while watching an episode, I'd force myself to stay up or nap before continuing(sorry 13) . . Thank you for taking the time to put your hysterical and honest review. I am an American mom who hasn't been to a movie in four years. I just watch the new garbage through the filter of your perception, which makes it palatable and enjoyable.
I’m surprised they didn’t notice how hypocritical it is that the person with identity dysmorphia gets it fixed by having it replaced with someone’s else’s identity.
They also missed the extreme irony of having someone who’s still biologically male and always will be, lecturing someone who’s been biologically female in the very recent past and still retains those memories about womanhood. I, as a woman, would be significantly less offended if the roles were reversed in that conversation. In fact, I might have had my opinion of this episode drastically flipped if the doctor had given that manlet a good dressing down.
This is the best part about these people. They are so deep up their asses trying to teach others how to live that they would not hear anyone say they are up their asses.

From apocryphal media we know that TARDISes are living creatures that are normally basically mind controlled by timelords, except the Doctor figured out that was very unethical and stuff and fixed his TARDIS up with just manual controls. She just tossed a cup of tea into the control chip analogue that is basically stuck right into its brain. That's a great way to end an episode.

All the male heroes we grew up with, James Bond, Jean-Luc Picard, Indiana Jones, Hans Solo have all had the exact same abuse, women characters taking over their roles, and claiming that all their achievements were gained through privilege and not through merit and self-sacrifice, openly sneering at the heroes, but the female characters are depicted as misandrist, smug, petty and vindictive as if these are somehow better qualities than those the males represented. They even outright copied the last Raiders movies in having the woman gratuitously physically punch out the hero, just imagine if that was a male character punching a woman in the face and you see how this is just a grotesque form of inverted sexism, prformed with a cringe-inducing kak-handedness.
Instead of creating new good female characters that would be on par with Bond, Picard etc. filmmakers create shitty one-dimentional Mary Sues plus crap on the past heroes.
What do you mean "inverted sexism"? Its just sexism, if you even want to use that stupid neomarxist buzzword in the first place. The word was invented to silence anyone who speaks the truth about what the two sexes are actually like.
Has anyone else made the observation that they changed the Meep from its original bluish black colour to... White? It might seem like a stupid thing to point out, but this episode was so on-the-nose, simplistic and clumsily obvious with its ideological messaging that I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was a deliberate, politically motivated decision.
The Meep has ben all sorts of colours in various reprints and reissues. In various reissues _he_ was blue grey, purple, greyish pink, royal blue and a quite nice teal. *he* always had little pointy teeth (but we only saw them after *HE* came out as evil). Of course, hhhheeeee looked white originally because the comic strip was black and white in Dr Who Weekly. Very binary, how soooo 20th century. What they did unquestionably change was that _HE_ and *_his_* race turned evil when their planet was affected by The Black Sun. Edited for duplucation.
The original Meep was in a black and white comic strip. No colour. He looked white to me, in the original. I bought the Weekly during it's original run. I'm still wondering why they chose this classic comic strip to destroy.
Were they expecting the audience to be thinking of Rose Tyler when Donna was calling out for 'Rose'? Because they have announced this new Rose for over a year and there is no surprise at all
Such a greatly written character her daughter, seeing as she is; Beautiful. And shes beautiful. Simply gorgeus. very beautiful. Did i mention beautiful? just gorgeous. her journey from beautiful to beautiful, is just beautiful. Gorgeous.
Don't worry Mr Davis we understand exactly how you feel about the wheelchair situation because most of us mistakenly associated new Who, with it's amazing early episodes, directly with your own intelligence, common sense and sanity. We all have the opportunity to course correct and don't worry most of us have.
At first I was irritated because I saw that instead of it being shown on BBC America, like it always has been, it was only on Disney+. I don't have Disney+. But the more I hear about it, I think I'm glad that I wasn't able to watch it. I prefer to remember David Tennant how he was and not be subjected to a show that sounds worse than The Timeless Child. I'm only 44 seconds into your review and I'm already feeling sick at what they've done. The over the top disrespect to the Doctor - did they honestly think that was a good thing to give to the fans?
Why _was_ this on Disney+ instead of the BBC? What does Disney have to do with Doctor Who? Or did I miss how one of their rampant buying-the-competition-to-death attempts swallowed the BBC? In which case I'm sorry to the Whovians, revival and classical alike, for their loss.
As a rule, I won't watch reboots, remakes and sequels to movies and shows I actually enjoyed if I suspect it's going to be a shitty cash-grab or worse, a delivery system for the message. I find that if I do watch the crappy new stuff, I can't help but have that influence my attitude towards the old, even if I would much rather scrub those unpleasant memories from my mind. Oh sure, I'll watch reviews tearing the new thing apart, but I find it a lot easier to keep a wall of separation between the good stuff and the terrible new content if I'm only exposed to the latter through the medium of sneering reviews.
The Doctor never regenerated in Twice Upon a Time. It was tragic to see him die after meeting the First Doctor again and having his touching "reunion" with Clara and Nardole, but that was where Doctor Who ended. Yup. Nothing happens after that.
Man, imagine how cool it would have been to have Doctor Donna come back and gamble everything on figuring out how to regenerate? If she eventually managed to transplant the Doctor's DNA into her body and regenerate with it, sacrificing her very existence to give the Doctor 11 more regenerations? Damn.
My ending to Doctor Who: At the conclusion of ‘The Time of the Doctor,’ the 11th Doctor mistakenly thought that the Time Lords were granting him a completely new regeneration cycle. They weren’t. They granted him *one more* life to enable him to complete his work on Trenzalore and defeat the Daleks. During ‘Twice Upon A Time,’ the 12th Doctor is struggling with the decision of whether to regenerate or to refuse, unaware that this was his final incarnation. Ultimately, this decision is taken out of his hands. As he regenerates, the artron energy dissipates into the heart of the TARDIS. The Doctor has passed away. The TARDIS travels on and reconstitutes the Doctor’s personality and memories to create the being known in ‘The Day of the Doctor’ as ‘The Curator,’ an artificially generated being that is able to shape itself into different forms of the Doctor’s past faces (ie an older fourth doctor, maybe a younger first doctor, younger seventh doctor, older ninth doctor etc). It remains as a monument to the Doctor’s history and ensures that his work lives on.
I do find it rather hilarious that everyone treats. Donna's husband like he doesn't even exist. Because really he doesn't. His literal ONLY PURPOSE, is so that Donna can have a mixed race child. Also the whole lets be over inclusive yet treat people with disabilities with special attention/ treatment, which is exactly what they don't want!!!! They want to be treated like everyone else. Which means YES YOU CAN HAVE DISABLED VILAINS! and actually they usually turn out pretty fkn bad ass when done right and not through wokeness. They also talk about rose like she just appeared out of thin air. What is so wrong with reality?
@mrbeans2425 Prime example of your "pretty fkn bad ass" comment is the main man himself, Darth Vader. He's a walking torso with prosthetic limbs and a portable iron lung. And he is (before Kenobi, shudder) one of the most iconic, recognizable, and badass villains in pop culture.
Yeah, I was extremely confused by the Rose character. Did Rose have to become "female presenting" (as RTD would have it) on purpose or was there a sudden inexplicable change from boy to girl that they don't really want to talk about? And how is Rose different now that the power's been let go?
The fact that Donna's son ends up so messed up and thinking he's a chick is rather in line with how overbearing her character is. Her son must have *SO* many mommy issues, especially with how she demeans her husband.
Do you go out of your way to say the wrong gender for the character? If so, that's a lot more hate crime-y than simply disagreeing with the idea of trans folk. Deliberately disrespecting someone because you don't like the way that THEY are living their life. Yikes.
@sn0wfal676 I was referring to the character's biological sex and obvious mental illness, i.e gender dismorphia but sure, call me a hater. Whatever floats your woke boat.
@@sarasunshinemt4444 You don't even know what "Woke" is. It's just a silly buzzword for you because you don't understand change. Trans isn't a mental illness. There are studies from Cambridge (could be another one of the big schools) showing evidence of a biological connection that influences trans folk. The tldr of the study is that men and women have certain elements of their brain that is common to their biological makeup. Men have men brain, women have women brain, etc. The study showed that in every trans brain studied, if it was a female-born person then they would have the male's brain. Other way around if it was someone biologically male but wanting to transition into being female. It isn't an illness, it's just how some folk are born. And before you preach horse shit anywhere, please know your stuff. The pseudo-term is "dysphoria" not "dismorphia" ya goof. Even if you don't agree with it for whatever odd reason, why hate? Why poke fun of? Why disrespect? Like trans folk don't kill anyone by being trans, they just tryna live their life the happiest they can. What's so bad about that?
Not to mention the whole "if you were a woman, you'd have understood" sentiment only works if you assume that all women are the same and think the same way and reach the same conclusions - that is to say, it only works if you are stereotyping women before you even get to the whole "men are stupid" side of it. Identity-based ideology fails not only because it vilifies people based on their identity, but it also reduces the "protected" identities to stereotypes as well. In this case, it's sexist coming AND going.
"Put a strait whyte guy in a wh33lcha1r and make him ev1l" They d3let3d the first comment like this - absolutely unbelievable disreprect for non-hivem1nd thinking. Shameful.
Excellent way of putting it. If I actually watched this stuff first hand, I would probably be in a padded room like the end of In the Mouth of Madness.
Jokes aside, Bran does come off as a villain when you put some thought into it, he let so many people die, let Jon be exiled, kept so many secrets to himself, let theon be killed, made himself King by manipulation, had a link to the White Walkers their king. @@awavey
When talking about associating disability with evil Russell says: "Trust me, there's a very long tradition of this". If it's such a commonplace thing why do we need to trust him? Either it should be blatantly obvious or he should be telling us "Trust me, that's what _you_ think".
Honestly he's not wrong though, giving the villains some sort of imperfection to use as a visual cue that they're bad is a very old trope. Of course, subverting this convention by having the "ugliest" people turn out to be the nicest ones is also a very old trope (even Dr Who did this with Galaxy 4), so why RTD thinks this is still some kind of issue in 2023 is beyond me.
I can't believe they couldn't let Rose be her own original character. They had to taint her with this smug B. First, River replaced her importance as the first and rare love of the Doctor, now this one is taking her name. Couldn't Rose just have one thing to herself?
I must say I am surprised that there has not been more pushback and emphasis on the shot taken at "Male Presenting" in the special. Yes, it has been pointed out how this is "The Message" but I think it has been missed entirely that this is not "The Message" as many think. This has gone way past just targeting natural born men and male energy as is common in "the message" but now is attacking Maleness at all, even from just those who present as male (i.e. those born woman who wish to transition to or who identify as men). I thought this surely would have made a much bigger splash than it did. This is all involved saying unequivocally, "Oh your trans? You identify as female? We got your back. What? Your Identify as male? Get out of here, women are better." This is a whole new level of hypocrisy - They will advocate for trans rights and acceptance and have your back but only if you are male identifying as female apparently. Men, and all things identifying as men or presenting as men (those mannequins, anatomically correct puppets, some fire hydrants...) suck and are stupid in their eyes. This is not Diversity, Equity, or Representation, this is pure, unadulterated, Sexism and Hatred on open display. Sadly, these people also do not seem to get that you can not fight hatred with hatred, and you can not force acceptance, trying to do so only breeds bitterness, hostility, frustration, and forces all sides to draw battle lines. The ONLY successful way to dispel hatred is with patience, education, compassion, discussion, and compromises over time.
I think the reason is simple, So many people just gave up now and are not angry but just feel indifferent to the show, empathy has now filtered in and no one cares for Dr Who anymore. After this episodes that 5 million viewership number will likely begin to fall and then plummet when the 15th Doctor takes over.
It's also insulting to male presenting nonbinary people. I think RTD forgot the Doctor is nonbinary now and wrote that line still thinking he's a just man. If Russel can't be bothered to keep track of the terrible retcons, why should we? 🤦🏽♀️
You can't 'identify' as a man. It is not an identity, it is a biological characteristic. I get what you're trying to do, but you're using all their ideological language.
So the daughter is a trans, and I was right at first glance. Imagine that. The end of this 'episode' was the most sexist, bigoted experience I've ever had watching a television show or a movie. it was an entirely repulsive and disgusting end to a repulsive and disgusting episode.

Russel T drank the kool aid so bad he forgot not only the Doctor previous life was a woman but that the Timeless Child that he did not retconed was a bunch of minority women before regenerating into William Hartnell's original Doctor. Meaning that whole "you wouldnt understand because you are a male timelord" from Donna and "Rose" was a complete BS.
I think Gary mentioned it in his review that scene is all about telling the male fans, classic or nu, you dont understand because youre men, its not Donna and Rose really dissin the Doctor, its RTD using the show as the vehicle for the message again
@@awavey Yeah, I know, The Message was more important than making sense, might as well make Donna look right at the screen and adress the male audience instead of breaking their own continuity.
Relooking at the older RTD episodes, I did notice that some of their plots and writing are not as great as I remembered. Maybe overrated is the better word. RTD is just another establishment hack now, rather push the message and ruin a show, than create a memorable show.
@@RomanHistoryFan476AD True, RTD worked fine probably because he had restrictions back then, in this clown era though he had free reign to do whatever he wanted.

Woke Tenant Doctor: "Ah, so that's how you pronounce that."
I need RTD to give specific examples of that "long tradition" of associating evil with disability. I've been disabled since I was 15, and not once did anyone, in my weeks and months in rehab, ever give me a pitchfork and horns, and tell me my new role in life is to be evil because I have a disability. I'm 64 now, and in my experience, my disability seems to bring out the best in people, for which I'm very grateful. Therefore, I've concluded that Davies is projecting based on his own insecurities, and has the temerity to foist them off on those of us who don't share his personal problems. That's pretty reprehensible, really. Because all he's doing is trying to soothe hie own conscience.

"I have a daughter" Proceeds to show image of a male. Who is dressed as women have a preference to dress. Nope, no denial of basic reality there.............. edit: I've never called myself a "Dr Who Fan", but i can easily say i have enjoyed it a great deal. As a child Tom Baker was "The Doctor" and i enjoyed the early 2000s resurgence of the character. The mere existence of "Rose" countermands that.

These people are cancerous and parasitic. Any and all of their attempts, regardless of the property, should be stamped out by fandoms across genres, as a whole.
Yeah, being a former Star Wars fan, all of this has become just another Tuesday. Current year I try to avoid and/or wet anything that involves nostalgia. It’s ultimately better to not have seen something than to get all your nostalgia ruined and abused for some quick bucks.
the worst part is a lot of doctor who fans were also star wars fans, so we had to go through this with star wars as well. it's just so depressing.

_"I'm still dead. Another man gets up and walks away in my place."_ But hey, I can come back whenever I want apparently!
Yeah, the original writing would've had it "I've... been busy. Yourself?" and left it at that.

Capaldi was a great Doctor, sadly in a time of poor writing and when the agenda was beginning to be shovelled in full force.
Haven't seen Capaldi as the Dr, but he was was good as Cardinal Richelieu in the Three Musketeers
Capaldi was my first doctor change. I started watching in Matt Smiths era. I didnt like the older doctor at first I was used to younger one but Capaldi really won you over.
Do you not think kids should practice penmanship? Just curious.

I was astonished. I thought the plan was to use Tennant and Tate to rebuild the audience for Gatwa. I can see the sense in that.
It makes sense when you realize Chibnall's job was to destroy Dr. Who, and Davies' job was to urinate on its grave.

@awavey
I have to admit that I lost my respect for RTD as a writer when I read his collected emails book. He seemed to treat writing as just a necessary duty.
As for RTD being the Avenger of the Disabled, I believe it was Az who pointed out at least SIX disabled heroes: Professor Charles Xavier, Oracle / Barbara Gordon, Daredevil, Cyborg, Geordi LaForge, LUKE FUCKING SKYWALKER…

Also got to give Meep some sharp teeth to really drive the message home.

@@draketheduelist Disney are co funding it (As far as I recall. Someone will correct me otherwise).
Damn.
My ending to Doctor Who:
At the conclusion of ‘The Time of the Doctor,’ the 11th Doctor mistakenly thought that the Time Lords were granting him a completely new regeneration cycle.
@@KopperNeoman its ironic that they ended up using this type of idea except worse with the "bi-generation" thing
"The luckiest man in the world, would have a sandwich!" Hahahaha.
“They called me Mister Glass”
@@jeremytitus9519damnit! You beat me to it 😂
@mrbeans2425
Prime example of your "pretty fkn bad ass" comment is the main man himself, Darth Vader. He's a walking torso with prosthetic limbs and a portable iron lung. And he is (before Kenobi, shudder) one of the most iconic, recognizable, and badass villains in pop culture.
@@dragonmaster1360 facts
@@sn0wfal676 These kids have issues with reality and this is your take on it?
@@MarieAnne. Not sure if you mean the trans folk or transphobic folk. Transphobic folk definitely have issues with reality.
It's amusing everything they try to "fix" characters in shows they accidentally make them the most evil horrible people imaginable 😂
I genuinely believe that they think people like that are good people
Not to mention the whole "if you were a woman, you'd have understood" sentiment only works if you assume that all women are the same and think the same way and reach the same conclusions - that is to say, it only works if you are stereotyping women before you even get to the whole "men are stupid" side of it. Identity-based ideology fails not only because it vilifies people based on their identity, but it also reduces the "protected" identities to stereotypes as well. In this case, it's sexist coming AND going.
"Put a strait whyte guy in a wh33lcha1r and make him ev1l"
They d3let3d the first comment like this - absolutely unbelievable disreprect for non-hivem1nd thinking. Shameful.
These sort of shows are like Eclipses, and you are my box with a pinhole in it, allowing me to see them without going blind. Thank you. :)
Excellent way of putting it. If I actually watched this stuff first hand, I would probably be in a padded room like the end of In the Mouth of Madness.
I am glad that we are still 100% associating disability with EVIL.
Cause that was the aim of the show? Right?
It's the one tradition this show isn't trying to subvert, bless them.
Yup I'm now convinced wheelies are evil
basically Bran was the evil one in Game of Thrones, it all makes total sense now, the white walkers were just misunderstood
Jason had to steal her name.
At least he didn't call himself Sarah.
presumably she has the human doctor "clone" all to herself.
Just wait until Susan comes back to see how grandad's getting on in 2023. 😱
@@Lorkanthal The clone is not the Doctor. He sounds more like Donna.
Attacking all maleness is nothing new. Trans men were only ever tolerated by being ignored.
For folks supposedly against stereotypes yet they have no problem using them
What they really desire is not equality, but Power, the left want one sided power in their favour, allowed to be hypocrites and their enemies locked up. Tolerance is a lie for them since tolerance only means for their beliefs. @@pheunithpsychic-watertype9881
Especially since Rose is a dude too.
I am disabled and often require the use of a wheelchair. As such, I find it highly insulting that RTD would underestimate my capacity for evil.
Woke Tenant Doctor: "What are you?"
Cyberman: "We are Cybermen."
Woke Tenant Doctor: "That's not very inclusive now, is it?"
Cyberman: "What are you doing?"
Woke Tenant Doctor: "Installing pronouns with my Sonic Screwdriver."
Cyberman: "That's not where that should go!"
Woke Tenant Doctor: "All done. What are you now?"
Cyberman: "I am... a Cybermxn."
I hated Rose immediately because a 20 year old is not convincing as a kid that should be 15 years old max.
Wait they’re supposed to be 15!😂😂😂
@@camerondorsett3590 yes the character is a 15 year old trans kid. Gotta push that message
@@camerondorsett3590 If that... The End of Time aired less than 14 years ago. With 9 months of pregnancy, the "kid" should barely be 13, max. And that episode and this new episode had date references that make it hard to add extra time into it.
For me it was the complete lack of expression, even when supposedly experiencing emotional pain. Excepting the smugness at the "male presenting" bit.
