As an Arabic speaker, the experiences the former prisoner was telling you about sound even more harrowing when you hear it in his native tongue. He was talking about how he still carries the trauma of the prison gaurds knocking the cell doors, and how even after liberation, whenever a door was knocked at home he would revert to that same level of panic and fear. Rami did an excellent job of interpreting this story back to you.

Thats how I am whenever I hear people talking a room away or behind a door. Its instant panic and, even after damn near a decade, I still find myself having to talk myself down and remind myself that I'm safe. @yuzuchi5381

I'm a historian, and seeing this, it's just history happening in front of me (us)! But i couldn't stop thinking: we must archive all of that information that it's just abandoned throughout the prison itself. That way is the only way to preserve the memory of the grotesque actions that the Assad regime has done to its people. The detainees photos... if they're not preserved (archived), the future generations will not remember this. Great video!!

Indeed. ALL of the papers, photos and books should be scooped up, analyzed, documented and guarded. An example from history I remember, when the fall of Saigon happened, with the famous scenes of the US embassy evacuations.. Afterwards, All of the shredded papers left behind in were gathered up and meticulously pieced together.

@banas17 Syrians basically barely have any private possesions. The Assad rule robbed everything they could from them. That is the definition of what communism rule can become.
Of course they are mad and would loot it. But look, Damascus wasn't liberated by HTS. It was liberated by the Druze-led Southern Operations Command from Daara. These people were the longest opposition fighters to survive against Assad, being defeated in 2019 or 2018. Because Assad regime pulled back to defend Damascus and Homs, the Druze could seize weapons and March to Damascus. Symbolically the revolution firsy started in Daara and it was ended from the same ppl from Daara. HTS came few days later to Damascus after taking Homs.
HTS takes most of the credit for defeating Assad, at start of the revolution there were 800 different opposition factions. The revolution was organic and supported by no other government. When HTS came they guard government offices and the palace and such from looting, they issued a statement that all possessions stolen from the palace must be returned or those who are found will face consequences.
