    those old sea horse motors were so good that people often forget to maintain them properly ..one of the best small motors ever built imo....great buy for 200

    I tend to leave the plugs out to make turning it over easier while checking things like this. May also be worth checking the push to stop to make sure it's not grounding out and killing the spark

    My guess a bad condenser. Go ahead and do an ohm test on coils too. Can’t wait for next episode.

    I picked one up the other day. Flywheel wasn't bad, i got it off with a socket and pry bar then just lifted up by hand

    One check I would do early is replace old hard leads and old hardened plug caos.. I have seen a number of outboards where the spark was jumping down old spark plugs as it is cracked//Dirty/wet or leads have gone hard and inflexible..and spark tracks...

  • @gillgetter3004
    @gillgetter3004 Год назад

    They’re original plugs and I’d replace them. Put plug to engine block to check spark. Maybe coil? I replaced all ignition on a 71 same motor as yours ( much worse condition) . Rebuilt everything possible my cooling passages were packed with sand!!! Took motor completely apart. All parts gaskets ign impeller thermostat and housing etc etc etc about 200.00 initial cost of motor 50.00 giving it to someone who needs it to get out fishing 👍

    Once wheel puller is tight ,lightly tap the top of the big bolt. That’s why the impact wrench freed it flywheel. Fair winds!

    More than likely points and condenser. Sometimes the insulation on the coils can crack and cause issues.

    could it also be a bad cable?

      Hi JoshDoesStuff875 I have question I have the same outboard I cleaned the car did the water pump and it turns on right away I was just wondering it seems to smoke a lot wich lead me to believe it might be running to rich what would it be you're recommendation on how many turns to leave it with? Any help will be much appreciated thank you in advance

    • @JoshDoesStuff785
      @JoshDoesStuff785 Год назад

      @@paoloflores9772 While you are turning your rich/lean knob to more lean you should listen to hear whether it is runing smoother or not you may want to keep it going rich otherwise your motor can overheat but if when you are turning it lean and the smoke gets better and it runs smoother than you should keep it where you would like by the way it takes a few seconds for the ajusting to start to work

  • @barrywarren4221

    With the experience I have on outboards, I would just put a coil on it. Everything else looked good, so you said.

    • @WayneTheBoatGuy
      @WayneTheBoatGuy  Год назад

      Thanks! So you'd do that before buying an inexpensive set of points and condenser?

    • @gillesgomez3091
      @gillesgomez3091 Год назад

      Maybe you should change points, condensers and plugs. This is such an old engine. These parts are as serviceable as impeller is.
      But I agree on the possibly dead coil too.
