Throwback to my Jehovah's Witness days. can't thank them enough for my crazy zealot grandparents who poorly raised my mom who met an early grave because she was convinced nothing in this world matters, you'll just respawn after Armageddon and life the live you actually wanted. And thank you for making countless kids homeless because they started to think for themselves and their parents couldn't handle that.
I am currently 19 years old and was raised in an abusive cult that I was 17 when I escaped. It was absolute hell. My mind and body are permanently damaged because of the things they did to me.
This is the kind of video i would never think to search for, but it's really interesting learning about this! Some of these tactics I've heard of and some of these aren't as obvious. Cool video!!
I was in the Order of Nine Angles. I recognised some of these present but others not. Like a strong us vs them dynamic, I brought up many times that this was contrary to a core idea. I never got called a traitor or shunned or anything, I was highly praised for my knowledge of the beliefs and history. I was criticised by one person though for introducing a new style and not conforming to the traditional style of things even though I espoused the same talking points. I left them though. I went through a period of leaving and coming back. I occasionally see what's going on sometimes but I'm no longer involved with them.
Your journey and resilience are truly remarkable. Escaping the clutches of a restrictive upbringing is a testament to your strength. The impact of such experiences, whether from a cult or challenging family dynamics, can be profound. It's unfortunate to hear about the struggles you faced, but your ability to recognize parallels with corporate structures highlights the importance of fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for personal growth. Wishing you strength and healing on your path to rebuilding and creating a life of authenticity and fulfillment.
One of the cults that is insanely unknown but also interests me the most was the cult around Fikret Abdić and his micro-state during the Bosnian Wars. He, originally the head of the corporation Agrokomerc, started the small country around Velika Kladuša known as the Autonomous Province of Western Boznia, or the Autonomna Pokrajina Zapadna Bosna (APZB). This was practically a president-in-exile rather than a government-in-exile, as Fikret (also known as Babo) originally won the popular vote to become the head of the newly independent Bosnian government, but gave his position away to Alija Izetbegović. In their short existence from 1993-95, Babo was known to use many cult tactics like the ones shown in this video as well as Serbian military training in an attempt to fight Alija's government. In 1995, Operation Storm (a joint military action by the Croatian and Bosnian governments) sucessfully collapsed the APZB with Babo fleeing to Croatia. One war-crime conviction and one reduced sentence later, Babo is now the mayor of Velika Kladuša, Bosnia and Hercegovina. Weird footnote, I got sent feet pics of Babo by a Bosniak acquaintance over Discord once.
Reminds me of when I was convinced not being like that piece of garbage made me less of a man. And then I realized that he’s a literal scumbag and I’m more of a man than he’ll ever be.
Small footnote for 2:19 to 2:30 The branch Dravidians didn’t believe that the world was ending and it was their job to take everybody with them, their belief was that when the world ended it was their job to hold out against “the armies of Babylon” until the very end. This isn’t meant to excuse the actions of anybody involved this is just a footnote to elaborate on the apocalyptic doctrine comment

Charismatic: good leader Exclusive belief: secretive Manipulation: lies Authoritarian structure: golden member Exploitation: members used as tools Isolation: no other influence Fear: threats Groupthink: meeting Secrecy: trust issues Unrealist promises: bad lies
Cults employ a chilling blend of charismatic leadership, exclusive belief systems, manipulation, and exploitation. From fear tactics to mind control, these groups prey on vulnerability, creating an echo chamber of deception. Unraveling the web of deception and dismantling the illusion of unrealistic promises, cults leave a trail of shattered lives in their wake. Vigilance and awareness are crucial in safeguarding against the insidious tactics of such groups.
Funny just how many of these apply to the religion I was raised in. The one that I’m in the process of leaving at the moment. Excommunication is a scary thing.
Keep in mind that a cult may not do every single thing. Low level cults, for example, may not directly do isolation directly. Jehovah Witnesses, Scientology, and Mormonism are all varieties of low level cults that don't have the ability to do isolation, but still strongly control their members' actions through things like us versus them thinking. Growing up Mormon, we were always warned of anything that was anti-mormon, which included anything from protestors outside a temple or pageant to a scientific paper on Native Americans that didn't talk about the Lamanites. Other varieties of cults may include cults of personality, which are not strong cults as they have no rigid structure, but still fill out many of these systems. Homeschooling, mis-and disinformation, and leader worship are often definers of a modern cult of personality. A cult of personality can exist within a different cult as well, whether it is related or not.
As a believing Mormon, I've openly read all sorts of critical material, such as (but not limited to) the CES letter, No Man Knows My History, both of Dan Vogel's Joseph Smith books, and 'a letter to my wife'. I'm very open about the fact I've ready those things and I've never been punished or reprimanded for doing so. Moreover, I've also talked to plenty of other believing Mormons who have done the same thing. I think this may depend on which Mormon you're talking to.
Mormonism isnt known to "reprimand" really anyone about anything, Besides being incredibly creepy I personally believe they are one of the "less harmful" cults...but they are a cult nonetheless and cults don't belong in an intelligent and free society.@@danielstark8356
@@danielstark8356 Yeah I heard from LDS friends that they are encouraged to pray and ponder and have their own testimony of their church and Joseph Smith. And in the Book of Mormon it talks about agency (freedom of choice) so if it's someone's choice to think they're a "cult" they won't go gut you like any other cult but those are the Mormons I've been around and those are the one's I agree with.
"don't have the ability to do isolation" i was raised in a Jehovah's Witness family. they can isolate members. they have compounds called the "Bethels".
if you look closely, a good deal of popular religions seem very cult like. a “cult” is just a religious group dedicated to a certain object, person, thought system, etc. all religions are cults. not all religions are bad, but a great deal of them have a lot of discrimination towards people who dont follow that faith. people say “oh my religion wouldnt do anything like that!” religious persecution,(including the spanish inquisition or the crusades for example)lots of sexist beliefs and acts that only benefit men, slavery, etc. theres nothing wrong with being religious as long as you are self aware and know the things going on, good and bad.
