    Really interesting video. For what it's worth, I was suggested by RUclips your video "Everything I sewed this summer". I watched it, liked it, subscribed and watched other videos 😊

    Congratulations !!! I cant remember when I found you but it was several months ago - so pleased you're pleased! I watched a video by a painter a couple of years ago explaining all about how RUclips works - I changed the way I watch accordingly eg I always like and subscribe if I enjoy the content. I do get bored with people but dont unsubscribe. I never used to comment because I watched on my TV (usually while sewing) . Now the TV is playing up I watch on the laptop so I try to comment more often. I like your voice and your sense of humour - not things you can change I guess. Your style isnt mine - I'd never wear the clothes you make but as you said your videos are craft themed entertainment. I watch Kate Jackson from the Last Homely House more than anyone - Ive never made a quilt - probably never will - but there's something ASMR about her - and you....keep it up😘

      @alwaysinthecraftroom  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you so much! I really do appreciate every like and subscribe even if I can never bring myself to ask ☺️ It's fascinating to hear that you're not specifically interested in the actual clothes I make, but when I think about it, I'm the same. I follow so many sewing channels and many of them make clothes I would never wear, yet I still find it very interesting.

      @alwaysinthecraftroom you're welcome 😊 I am impressed by you and other vloggers that put themselves out there, being themselves, keeping it real. Personality has a major impact for me to keep watching. Some people are like listening to paint dry. Fridays are something I look forward to, it's my entertainment. ( sewing and crime vlogs) my son asked me, does it give me inspiration... I'm hoping he means the sewing!! 🤣. I'm a curator of sewing stuff and knowledge but don't actively sew ( I want to) xx

  • @TheWillowtreeGreen

    Great tips, I picked up on the thumbnail thing, I don’t think I have it down by any stretch but I keep giving it a go! Funnily enough I don’t even use hashtags when I search but I do add them to my vlogs. I’ve never asked permission 😮 Tip no 4 was a good one, I have had that issue myself with clicking the recommended video and I probably now give others that issue since I dropped my little song outro 🤷🏼‍♀️ I love your channel name it’s genius, I could not come up with a name and I don’t want to limit what I talk about as I actually do a lot of stuff and so I’m doing all the wrong things on that, for one it’s my personal account and the name means nothing to anyone but me😂

    • @alwaysinthecraftroom
      @alwaysinthecraftroom  Месяц назад

      I didn't think to ask permission until like a week after I posted and Jen was just like, nah, get on with it, so I really wouldn't worry 😂 I was worried about her with this storm, I was glad to see her recent video and hear that she is fine.
      Thanks, it was hard coming up with a name I liked that wasn't already taken. For what it's worth I find your name really memorable and a bit different! The ones I find tricky are when it's some combo of three random sewing terms and I never know which order they go in 😬

    I hope you make money, I have to say that when I started out a fair few years back it was very easy to make £100 a month. But then RUclips got wise and as more people joined it has gotten harder and harder to make anything. I have 6,700 subs and was eligible to make money for several years (but it was only really pocket money for buying fabric). It’s a hard thing to keep up with making content- especially when you don’t feel like sewing anything sometimes. I stopped because the effort of making videos was taking up quite a bit of time. When I decided to restart again earlier this year I was told they’d demonetised my channel and I have to start all over again (despite all the previous content still getting watch hours- one video of mine has 30k views) I’d advise you to make an Ikea video, organisational stuff. I wish you lots of luck, I like your content 😊

    • @alwaysinthecraftroom
      @alwaysinthecraftroom  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks so much for taking the time to tell me all this, it's really helpful! I had read that they could de-monetize you, but it sounded really rare, so it's kinda of scary to hear that happened to you. I'm sorry you have to start over, that must be seriously infuriating!
      I have been meaning to make a Craft Room Tour for ages but I've been putting it off, as it seems rather difficult to film without making both viewers any myself motion sick! I'm so sensitive to wobbly camera work 😂
      Thank you so much for the suggestion though - I have a lot of Ikea stuff in the Craft Room so I will be sure to use that in my Title / Thumbnail!

    ...didn't mean to post that yet.
    There are a lot of sewing video creators who are just not fun to watch or are hard to listen to. I love to sew and watch others who do, but I'm here for the entertainment and creative inspiration or tip. I'm not always up for a long video so the length makes a difference. Sometimes I go back later when I have more time or watch it on tv while I sew. When I watch YT on my tv, I don't "like" a video. Does that count for your monetization? Interesting video. Wishing you continued success.

    • @alwaysinthecraftroom
      @alwaysinthecraftroom  Месяц назад

      😂 I do always try to keep it fun and lighthearted. Not that I don't have grouchy days... I just don't film then 😉
      I feel the same about long videos. Sometimes I'm getting started on a lasagne recipe and love the idea of not having to select another video for a good while. Often I just want 10 or 15 minutes while I relax.
      I don't think the thumbs up do count (though I do appreciate them!) so don't give any thought to it, just watch on the device that suits you best. I was surprised that about a third of my viewers watch on a big TV screen... it's certainly good motivation for keeping the craft room tidy because you must be able to see every detail 😂

      @SonyaKinsey Месяц назад

      Congratulations Hayley! This was a great insight into how YT works at the beginning of the journey and I really appreciate you sharing your tips because I have been thinking about trying it too and you answered a lot of questions.
      I think I found you through your 5 things video and that was exactly what I was looking for as a beginner. I really wanted to know what I should be thinking about and what is a bit pointless and a waste of time and money at the start.
      So many other channels focus mainly on fabric hauls and unboxings which is great for them, but I live in a fairly remote part of British Columbia, Canada and I don’t have access to all those amazing fabric shops, it’s way out of my budget to order things online to be shipped here, and there certainly isn’t the same fabric choice here so it all felt a little show-off-ish and unachievable for me personally.
      What I love about your channel is that you're real. You don’t waffle on about how great a fabric is (thinking of your recent trip to Liberty). You talk about the reality of making things. What’s great, what went wrong, your frustrations, how you fixed it, what you’d differently next time. You also share a lot of new to new patterns and pattern companies which I also really love because it gets boring seeing the same “trendy” new pattern being made by everyone.
      I watch your channel while I’m sewing usually and it really helps to see others facing challenges and overcoming them, which is exactly what I’m going through as I sew too. So thank you for persevering and hopefully being able to grow your channel even more so you don’t have to worry about the day job so much!

    I started watching bc of that 6 things…. 😂😂😂 I am here for that. Thumbnails are important but also start your video strong. If the RUclipsr hums & haws and ask for subscriber or just talks fluff I click off. Just my two cents.

    I have to say since I started posting vlogs the amount of data RUclips throws at you is mind boggling! I have actually decided to stop looking as the subscriber numbers go up and down and that is so confusing, I’m assuming it’s bots being purged as I personally don’t unsubscribe unless the content goes wildly off topic and sometimes not even then, I’ll just not watch. I started by practically whispering through my first vlog I was embarrassed to talk to myself 😂 and personally for shorts I’ll just repost an instagram reel as I can figure those out. I had one video get over 3k views, no idea why. I did changed the thumbnail on that one because when I originally posted it I just stuck a home made channel logo on it. I have dropped my channel intro now as I hate it and I’m not a professional, this is a random middle aged (do the 50s count as the middle?) woman basically making a sewing diary online 😅 I’m not even sure why I’m doing this to be honest! Mostly I just wanted to stop dodging cameras and get more comfortable with myself how I look as my weight and shape have led to me being basically absent for a few decades worth of photos! I also get the odd dislike, fair enough people can click what they like, it just feels a bit mean like you hated my video that much? 😢 so that’s another stat I’m thinking of ignoring 🤣 I appreciate the honesty in this one, this is posted half way through as I’m getting a bit wordy! So may well post another comment 😂

    • @alwaysinthecraftroom
      @alwaysinthecraftroom  Месяц назад

      Hi Shelley, I'm the same, RUclips gives a ridiculous amount of info! Also the second I started a channel I started getting so much content about starting a channel, which is what inspired the video diary. It's been interesting watching it back as I had already forgotten what a huge difference changing my thumbnails made. I knew it was important but I had already forgotten how much it changed the course of my channel.
      It is so odd watching yourself back isn't it? I hope you're finding it's boosting your confidence, it's definitely helped with mine (and it's making me tidy up the craft room now I know how many people watch me on a big TV 🙈)
      The dislikes! Oh my goodness, why?! Just click away. I was shocked the first time I noticed them (so naive!) and now I just don't look.
