As a Christian, I REALLY appreciate that Reiner emphasized the difference between religious nationalism and evangelicalism apart from politics. Cause every Christian is not a white supremacy pawn. 👍🏾

When I listened to the monologue the first time, I thought it was flat compared to most if Lovett's monologues....when I heard Rob Reiner was there, I felt bad for Lovett. His response to Reiner was great and the interview/segment was one of the all-time best ever from the show.

Rob Reiner is one of my favourite Hollywood legend of all time.
I read a book a while back, to try to understand Drumpf supporters. It is The Authoritarians, by Bob Altemeyer. It said that Evangelicals and Christian Fundamentalists, are almost always Right Wing Authoritarian personalities. It helped me understand how religious folks could support, the most un-Christian person, that Iv'e ever seen. My disdain for all religions grew. However, Rob and Jon just reminded me; Not all Christians are Christian Nationalists. It still scares me how many have infiltrated our government, all the way up to the Supreme Court, in my opinion.

Try looking up Karen Stenner, a political scientist studying authoritarianism.Ultimately, she argues that authoritarians are best understood as "simple-minded avoiders of complexity rather than closed-minded avoiders of change.
Given how the right-wing Court has governed, I don’t think it’s opinion.

I completely respect and agree with the message of this film and I am a Christian. I not only fear what will happen if Trump gets re-elected but I also fear my blood pressure will shoot up to the sky and I won't sleep for the remainder of 2024 if I see this film.

My brother and I still believe Michael Douglas's speech at the end of "The American President" is the best monologue in film. And it's as relevant today as it was when the film was released. America IS advanced citizenship and too few of us realize that. I post a video clip to social media periodically to remind people. I also point out that you can substitute Donald Trump for Bob Rumson and it's still spot on.

I was so entertained by watching Jon be truly star-struck in Rob’s presence. He has been such a quiet giant in entertainment for decades. I would not have been able to speak to him in person. Every word would have needed to be printed on a card.

Fun fact: the people who they teach us, were coming to America for religious freedom, were actually kicked out of europe because they practiced religious extremism.
This is why the first amendment, came first. The founders actually witnessed what religious extremism did.
Yeah they were a faction of the nice folks who murdered the king of England because he was Catholic. I’m not sure about being kicked out of Holland, but they definitely left England because people were a bit spicy about the whole beheading-the-king, thing.
Their actual religion had very little influence on the later colonizers (in spite of legends). Later settlers were Congregationist, which emphasized decentralized organization and civic mindedness.

Regarding Holland: they willingly left Holland, partially because they realized their children were being influenced by the kids there and it apparently didn't take much convincing for them to get help acquiring ships and funding lol

I had an orthopedic surgeon who was a dead ringer for Kathy Bates. I ended up suing her for malpractice and winning. The sledgehammer scene gave me nightmares.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how this film gets received. I like it when he mentioned Phil Vischer because I watch The Holy Post every now and then and I can tell that they are all really good people who take the teachings of their religion seriously and help people. Even though I'm an atheist, I learn a lot from them and I think other people can learn a lot from them as well.
It was great to see Rob Reiner on this show. I watched All in the family for as long as it ran and repeats as well. It was the most brilliant couageous show on tv. It still rates way up there today. His movie's are fantastic. A great writer and director. I agree about his views on politics and white nationalists. Rob is right about evangelicals and not to judge them all the same but then its not good to judge anything or anyone the same. We need to use tight discernment. SO WE CAN LEARN HOW TO NEVER GET HERE AGAIN!!! Yuk, what a mess!

Also, Oprah Winfrey quietly removed everything abt & from those two extortionists & NEVER APOLOGIZED TO #MJ's Family & #ForeverFans .. bc she scared of standing up for the falsely accused, but not facilitating their "character" assassination. Thank you! I can't wait to see the film. Christian Nationalism is not even remotely based on the teachings of Jesus. And our founders certainly didn't want a theocracy. My locale, Ottawa County in Michigan, like so many other areas, has been taken over by far-right extremists. They demolished our local DEI and they believe our Public Health Department is demonic (you know, because of Covid restrictions 4 years ago.) Fortunately, there is a large group of us determined to turn things around this year. Greg Jaffe, reporter for the Washington Post, has visited us several times and has written great articles about what is going on. I'm glad more and more people are starting to understand the dangers of Christian Nationalism.

Norman Lear taught Rob everything he knew about real life and the people in it and it started with Archie Bunker. 🙂 Norman taught me my step father was Archie Bunker and helped steer me away from his prejudices. Historically, it brings to mind a very old church and a tall pulpit where the preacher is shouting "unworthy sinners" and "fear God" with some "fire and brimstone" thrown in. It takes the money of little old ladies that go to church everyday to pray for the sinners in her family. Little old ladies and their coins are the foundation of money that literally holds the church together. It's built upon their backs.
Humanity has a strong tradition of supporting and following narcissistic assfucks. There are some understandable reasons for this, among them being, said assfucks are often successful at convincing their followers of their efficaciousness, (primarily because their assfuck supporters want to believe). While short-term success often occurs, long-term costs are never considered, because human nature tends to gloss over that shit we'd rather not consider
