@iain2080 Yes, but since you're complaining that he didn't "properly showcase" him, going along with that line of thinking you should give his name for all of us who are unfamiliar with him. Unless you yourself aren't aware of his name.
Stoner puts a lot of importance on bass. Pretty sure they get a shit ton of fills, more solos than in other genres and straight up playing own riffs during guitar parts.
Ben's style of looking at the floor, spinning around in circles like a crackhead and occasionally yelling into a microphone has got be one of my favourites
I wondered when someone would mention Hookey. He started mid during Joy Division and ended up scraping the floor during New Order and Peter Hook and The Light. He's a beast as is his son Jack.
They probably meant they don't want no sideways flat brim hat wearing canoes with flames up their arms, not referring to the height the guitar is worn at 😅
Church of Misery is basically that bass fella, and a rotating cast of other musicians. He writes the songs, he runs the show. And he plays his bass crazy low.
@@digitaljanus my first sing I learned "for" bass was "Owner of a Lonely Heart" then I bought an electric during the Grunge Era because there were not many solos, although I DID have to learn "Hands All Over" because, well. . .it's an awesome song.
In a stoner festival, I once saw Tastu Mikami (the last bassist in the video) walking through the crowd during a concert, he seemed hurry. I just reached him and said to him that I loved his work and that he was a God for me. Then I just showed my hand to shake his, but instead he gave me a huge hug! I'm sure I will remember the scene forever! Go listen to Church of Misery! And if you already had, go listen again and again! Road to ruin would be my first choice with Killafornia, the bass works are insane.
I'm not even familiar with the guy or the band, but I had to give a like because that's such an awesome thing for anyone's hero to go out of his way to do without being asked to.
Fieldy from Korn absolutely deserves a mention, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone play an electric bass like he does. he plays it almost like an upright double bass, hung low and kept damn near vertical with the headstock right next to his ear
@@mayasol9850 Church of Misery. They've done a cover of War is our destiny. And even a cover of the german tv disco cover of paranoid, Der Hund Von Baskerville

Thank you for this video! As a new bass player, I was worried that my bass hangs a bit too high on a strap, but after watching this, I realized it is a matter of comfort and personal style.
Tatsu (who I knew this would be about! has an interesting playing style as well; he uses a pick as well as his middle and 4th fingers. Also as others have stated, Derek Boyer of Suffocation plays his even lower! A video on his tone would be great.
I love Church Of Misery and was fortunate enough to have seen the original lineup in Albuquerque New Mexico. The bassist and founder of the band, Tatsu Mikmai has some of the best bass tone I’ve ever heard and they are an excellent live band.
Why didn't you properly showcase the man? That's the bassist for Church of Misery, and no, no one slings it lower.
That's just silly. And you called Danny out for not showcasing that bassist and then you don't even give his name - lol
@@dmitryowens he gave the band he's in and you have google

Isnt there a tech death bassist who literally has a steel foot on his bass so he can mount it on the stage?
As a stoner/doom fan, it’s surreal to finally be recognized by the BEHS man himself 🤘
Kyuss rules
Love doom metal
Fuck yeah
Hell yes! Conan and Sleep for the win!
Stoner puts a lot of importance on bass. Pretty sure they get a shit ton of fills, more solos than in other genres and straight up playing own riffs during guitar parts.
With Chris Novosmith being that tall if I were to try on his bass it’d be on the floor.
I know, Chris is 6’7. SIX. FOOT. SEVEN.

I'll second that !
Ben wrote "Head Down" and "Half"
Love those songs

Peter Hook invented playing the bass at your knees.
@firecoroner and he has that trademark lead guitar tone as well using a BOSS Chorus effect.
Ah dammit I knew someone was gonna beat me to Hooky lol
I wondered when someone would mention Hookey. He started mid during Joy Division and ended up scraping the floor during New Order and Peter Hook and The Light. He's a beast as is his son Jack.
goth bassists were something else back in the day, weren’t they
Ryan Martinie at that virtuoso height making the craziest behs faces deserves a little appreciation.
The basist from Church of misery is SO good, legendary in the Doom genre
Wait til you see the bassist from Suffocation
Derek Boyer plays his bass like it's an upright bass
The alright chill out to Berthoud made me snort laughing.
Yeah that dude overplays everything and it gets old, fast
He's an incredible Bass player, but he could'nt play in a Band because of his ego.
Always love it when he picks on Charlie or Davie504, 😂😂
RUclips bassists are actual the worst.
I answered an ad for a bass player. It said " no chin strappers" 😐
Hahahahaha damn straight
They probably meant they don't want no sideways flat brim hat wearing canoes with flames up their arms, not referring to the height the guitar is worn at 😅

They really are. Their new album is a great comeback.
Incredible live too!
saw them live a few years back. absolutely killler
Ben Shepard leaves his Bass in the Basement and plays it from upstairs!
Behs in the behsment.
Ben Shepard from Soundarden use to play super low. But in the years that followed he has risen.

Ryo Yamada bass tone day 84
Somewhere between middle of the road and DeeDee Ramone is perfect 👌

Ben Shepherd from Soundgarden - some great videos of him playing with his bass practically around his ankles
I was privileged enough to open for Church of Misery once. In addition to rocking the lowest bass one can, he was a truly polite and kind gentleman.
Mark King is truly underrated in America.
Oh my days... I do love this guy he is funny as fuck. "Alright chill out" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
