In Michigan the law states officers can make a custodial arrest for a number of reasons and that making a custodial arrest instead of issuing an appearance ticket cannot be held against the officer. We hook them up and put them in the cruiser, check criminal history and check local reports to see if there are any pending cases against them. Most of the time they are released with citation but if they are repeat offenders we will lodge them. Especially retail frauds with open cases or long history of convictions.

In Riverside, they can arrest and book into county with a cite. The suspect is then released in 6-8hrs. With the cite signed.
