    • @julienielsen3746

It says to not mix wool and linen, not just any mixed fibers.
They don't sell wool and linen mixed fabric in fabric stores. If you mixed wool and linen it would not be a good fabric, because wool and linen shrink differently when they get wet. Possibly this meant any animal fiber mixed with any plant fiber would do the same.

Are you atheist or agnostic? If atheist why are you asking for biblically references? There was a general progression of laws. First in the garden was one commandment. Then ten after the exodus immediately followed by hundreds of commands on what to do and what not to do, then Jesus condensed them into two. The really important thing Jesus did was give a path to forgiveness and open the gates of heaven so we could return to God since we had been separated since the garden. God spoke to Peter and told him he has made unclean animals clean in Acts which throws out the dietary laws. Christ said divorce wasn’t of God but Moses for the hardness of man’s hearts in the gospels. Makes me wonder what wasn’t inspired but instead put in there for acceptance in that particular time? Keeping it simple didn’t help man follow God’s laws nor did providing hundreds of positive and negative commandments: don’t sleep with your uncle’s wife and rest the land every 7 years for examples. Jesus was not thrilled with the Capital punishment for adultery and not healing on the sabbath.

Hi Fr. Mike! One of my dearest friends is Orthodox Jewish- and we were talking this morning about the situation in Israel. People her brother has looked up to his whole life have been killed- and looking more into it, Anti-Semitism is rising across Europe in a way that seems very reminiscent of the 1930s. She even looked at me today and said, "people say the Jews control the media. If we did, don't you think they'd be hearing about this?" My heart breaks so much for her and her family- and Jesus was a Jew, Mary was a Jew, Saint Joseph was a Jew-- these are our brothers and sisters, our Faith has flowered from the roots of Judaism. What can we as Catholics be doing to help?

Be the change you wanna see in the world Sure that may be true, but as Jesus tells us we need to turn the other cheek and help. They are our neighbors, and we need to love them like it. Think of how many people would become Catholics if they saw just how much we care for them. As your own name implies if we want the world to be Catholic, we need to first be truly Catholic ourselves.

      Scriptures way.....
"Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
      Luke 1:28
[28]And upon entering, the Angel said to her: "Hail, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women."
      Luke 1:42
[42]And she cried out with a loud voice and said: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.(Jesus)
=="Holy Mary, Mother of God (Jesus), Pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
"She will give birth to a son. (Jesus)
      Isaiah 7:14
[14]For this reason, the Lord himself will grant to you a sign. Behold, a virgin will conceive, and she will give birth to a son, and his name will be called Immanuel.
"And it came about that Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. And she cried out with a loud voice, and said, "Blessed among women are you, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
      Luke 1:41-43
[41]And it happened that, as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
[42]And she cried out with a loud voice and said: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
[43]And how does this concern me, so that the mother of my Lord would come to me?
"One may argue that Elizabeth uses the phrase "my Lord" instead of "the Lord", so it means something else. This argument is weak at best. Elizabeth as a devout Jew recognized God as her Lord. The psalmists refer to God as "my God" and "my Lord" as in Psalm 35(34):23.
      Psalms 35:23
[23]Up, awake, to my defence, my God and my Lord, to my cause.
      "Birth to a Son.(Jesus)
      Matthew 1:23
[23]"Behold, a virgin shall conceive in her womb, and she shall give birth to a son. And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which means: God is with us."
"Now the procreation of the Christ occurred in this way. After his mother Mary.
      Matthew 1:18
[18]Now the procreation of the Christ occurred in this way. After his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they lived together, she was found to have conceived in her womb by the Holy Spirit.
"The holy one who will be born of you.(Jesus)
      Luke 1:35
[35]And in response, the Angel said to her: "The Holy Spirit will pass over you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. And because of this also, the Holy One who will be born of you shall be called the Son of God.
"They found the boy with his mother Mary.(Jesus)
      Matthew 2:11
[11]And entering the home, they found the boy with his mother Mary. And so, falling prostrate, they adored him. And opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
When Jesus had seen his mother.(Mary)
      John 19:26-27
[26]Therefore, when Jesus had seen his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son."
[27]Next, he said to the disciple, "Behold your mother." And from that hour, the disciple accepted her as his own.
"The denial of Mary as the Mother of God is a subtle attack against the true divinity of Jesus Christ and His Incarnation: "the Word was God [John 1:1] ... And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us" [John 1:14].
      John 1:1
[1]In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and God was the Word.
      John 1:14
[14]And the Word became flesh, and he lived among us, and we saw his glory, glory like that of an only-begotten son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

      Chill Goa
Short answer - We go to heaven immediately unless we have to go to Purgatory for a time, either of the two are immediate.
(That is, unless you aren't in hell, God willing)
Long answer - This idea of 'sleeping' in the grave until the second coming is actually attributable to a pope who was a heretic, his name was John XXII. He was the pope who canonized St. Thomas Aquinas, yet he held this teaching until he finally recanted it on his deathbed.
His heresy (which was a heresy because he held it after being corrected) was that souls did not enter the beatific vision (heaven) until after the second coming.
Fun fact: Pope John XXII was even condemned by a council.

28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to PRAY.
29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:
First, Jesus Pray. Then Jesus talk to Moses and Elias.
Mark 12:27 (KJV) God of the living, not dead or sleeping.
27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

Well, there are an awful lot of details in the Old Testament about just exactly how we're supposed to sacrifice live animals to God and we're talking lots of them. The penalty for doing this improperly was sudden death, in fact Aaron's son died a fiery death because of this. Ask those who practice Judaism why they no longer follow all those laws and get back to me, I'd love to hear what they have to say about it.

Hey, my kid keeps asking why Christians say that the laws of the old testament don't apply to them, and I told him that the pastor said that the new testament changes that, and he gave me this quote from Matthew, and I don't know what to say in response.
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and
teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-19)
Can anyone help me with this? Reading this, it really seems like Christians need to follow mosaic laws.

I think there is some ineffective methods and people who aren't up to speed on everything so they make false claims and it spreads. The best way is begin teaching ourselves with the advice of priests I think.

Basically they are not-- reread Acts 10 and Acts 15. The New Covenant makes clean ALL foods except a very short list. That being, "abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood". So to consume pork is certainly acceptable, though I'm not sure the exact theology/catechism that would surround foodstuffs like blood sausage for example.

Ok so if God said to have a speed limit in ancient israel, and ancient israel no longer exists, the priest concludes “oh great i no longer have to follow that speed limit because ancient Israel is no longer.” But doesn’t recognizing that God even wanted A speed limit in the first place, even IF that particular one isn’t around, indicative to us that we SHOULD have speed limits of some kind? I think it clearly does. This applies, in proportional measurement to all the OT laws

  • @bobbyrice2858

The key to understanding the relationship between the Christian and the Law is knowing that the Old Testament law was given to the nation of Israel, not to Christians. Some of the laws were to reveal to the Israelites how to obey and please God (the Ten Commandments, for example). Some of the laws were to show the Israelites how to worship God and atone for sin (the sacrificial system). Some of the laws were intended to make the Israelites distinct from other nations (the food and clothing rules). None of the Old Testament law is binding on Christians today. When Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15).
In place of the Old Testament law, Christians are under the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2), which is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39). If we obey those two commands, we will be fulfilling all that Christ requires of us: “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:40). Now, this does not mean the Old Testament law is irrelevant today. Many of the commands in the Old Testament law fall into the categories of “loving God” and “loving your neighbor.” The Old Testament law can be a good guidepost for knowing how to love God and knowing what goes into loving your neighbor. At the same time, to say that the Old Testament law applies to Christians today is incorrect. The Old Testament law is a unit (James 2:10). Either all of it applies, or none of it applies. If Christ fulfilled some of it, such as the sacrificial system, He fulfilled all of it.
“This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3). The Ten Commandments were essentially a summary of the entire Old Testament law. Nine of the Ten Commandments are clearly repeated in the New Testament (all except the command to observe the Sabbath day). Obviously, if we are loving God, we will not be worshiping false gods or bowing down before idols. If we are loving our neighbors, we will not be murdering them, lying to them, committing adultery against them, or coveting what belongs to them. The purpose of the Old Testament law is to convict people of our inability to keep the law and point us to our need for Jesus Christ as Savior (Romans 7:7-9; Galatians 3:24). The Old Testament law was never intended by God to be the universal law for all people for all of time. We are to love God and love our neighbors. If we obey those two commands faithfully, we will be upholding all that God requires of us.

Things like not shaving your beard could of been because the hebrews left egypt which males and females were known to dress as the other gender and were very deviate so it was important that in hebrew culture men were men and women were women. Also other laws like leaving a quater of your harvest so it can re grow just seems more like life advice not really law.

No, the sacrifice in the Mass is the one sacrifice of Christ on the cross, not a new sacrifice, and we receive mercy and grace by God's sacrifice on the cross, and abide in His mercy and grace through our works.
As St. James said: " You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone." (James 2:24)
And what Our Lord said: "For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink." (John 6:55)

The apostles were not following the dietary restrictions of Moses. The Pharisees challenged Jesus on why does he allow his disciples to behave like they were. Jesus said to the Pharisees “ It is not what goes into your body that defiles a person, it is what comes out of him. It is what comes out of your mouth not what goes into your mouth that defiles.” Later Paul had an issue in one of his churches. The Jewish Christians didn’t like the gentile Christians eating pork. Paul had to go back to Jerusalem to check with the elders. They concluded that the gentile Christians did not have to adhere to the dietary restrictions Orthodox Jews had to follow. I am glad, because I love lobster! GOD Bless!

Hello Father, I was waiting and waiting for you to state Christ's fulfillment of the laws; of the Temple, of everything else. He fulfilled them in His person, and it matters for discussing the nature of these laws AT ALL. Similarly important are the Church's documents on the Hebrew Scriptures, on Judaism, on relations with the Jewish People, whom the Church relates to *as continuing in a particular way in the covenant* that is important for lay people to be aware of (particularly from the Pontifical Council, Commission of the Holy See for Religious Relations with The Jews), such as "the Jewish People and Their Sacred Scriptures in the Christian Bible", by the Pontifical Bible Commission.

Jews have 613 commandments to obey. Gentiles have the Noahdine laws and Catholics have 10 commandments+ the social teachings in the Catechism. However, Christ said we must continue to obey every jot and tittle 'did not come to abolish the law but fulfill it' the new covenant didn't eradicate the laws.
