In typical news media, the term, "prodigy" is overused. I've seen a number of kids who are simply, "good" and suddenly they're on A.B.C. or N.B.C. news. This young lady INVENTED that term! I have seen Stanley Clarke 3 times, Victor twice, and Marcus Miller twice. When I first saw her, I was hoping one day she would meet Victor. Turns out they are friends, and he's a mentor! I CAN'T WAIT to see where Ellen will be in only one more year! ❤She has a GREAT DAD also, and the way he interacts with her is a model for modern parents!

Dave, thanks for this wonderful interview. You're a natural interviewer and you did a great job with a subject you could not have prepared for. I discovered Ellen only a few weeks ago. I have been turning to her videos anytime I needed a shot of sunshine along with monster grooves. I'm sorry to say that since her stuff ranges from around age 9 to now, I just don't want her to grow up. Her good humor and propensity to giggle we're so endearing that when you combine them with her talent, you just don't want it to ever end. I don't think she giggled once during this interview, an example of why I didn't want her to grow up (of course I'm half joking). The reason she wasn't giggling is that she did a fabulous job as an interviewee. But I would like to encourage Ellen not to lose that tendency. One of my sister's was a natural giggler and she kept it all her life: at the end of a sentence, it could be about anyting, she might throw in a quick little giggle, and it just made everything nicer. I know she was preoccupied with doing a good job, and I can't wait to see her next video when she's relaxed and doing what she loves. I also want to say that I will be a regular visitor here because though I am primarily a guitar player, I love to play bass and if the song isn't too challenging I can hold down a pretty good groove. You seem like a really nice guy and I hope to have something to contribute occasionally. Thanks and bye for now!

It might have been hard to hear each other, so she didn’t have a chance to let loose and really show her great personality. I could see she was almost ready to say some funny things, but kept it in. But still very entertaining. And we always look forward to seeing her laugh and smile.😝🤘🏻🎸🇺🇸

Ellen rocks! I've been following her ever since she was 8 years old and she did the Led Zep cover of "The Ocean" with teenage band members. At the time, Ellen was by far the youngest and tiniest, but she absolutely killed it! She fluently held the groove with the other band members, some of whom were nearly twice her age. Keep up the good work and keep on rockin' Ellen!

She's a sweet and great personality at her age, for years already, and it's clear dad and she have bonded over music. It's also clear that dad is actually a great musician. Less clear is that her mother must be totally "in" on this too, and probably plays an equally important role, while staying out of view of the cameras most of the time.

As a fan of the bass I'd like to think Ellen is going to stay on the musical path but she's still young and school is still a place in her life at least for the next few years. The closest thing to that is rock& roll . He is a classically trained musician . The bass is as important as the drummer. They keep the group in time and rhythm with the music.

I hope she doesn't lose her precociousness as an adult. Cute and talented are a good combo and she has a lot of both.BTW..I think Ellen plays the bass..not her father..Not a big fan of the interview but her answers were better than the questions. Ellen you are awesome!!

Jon I submmitted a (rather long-winded) comment and mistakenly called you Dave. I dont see it now, possibly it's being moderated. In any event thanks for a great interview. I m also a new subscriber.

@@ForBassPlayersOnly thanks for the nice reply!
I was thinking of her saying how she tried many instruments in the beginning, got bored and tried other instruments and then stuck with the bass.
I played violin at age 6 in a school orchestra.Dad was military so we moved 2 yrs later. No violin teacher at the new school, so I played a few brass instruments, accordion,, and started on bass in senior year of highschool (1967).
Played professional bass in a disco/funk band. Five years ago I fell in love with the cello after seeing Hauser but also kept my bass.
I was thinking this girl might catch a bug for a cello if her dad got her one.
I just joined your channel yesterday and plan on exploring your videos. YT is a good platform for exposure to play various instruments. Thanks again sir for providing the content you share.

I believe that for all of the reasons that Ellen's dad has her recite the artist, album, and year for her baselines is he wants to teach her how to provide due credit to the artist instead of taking all of the credit for herself.
Comedians who are ethical professionals will give credit for a joke that another comedian developed. Unlike Carlos Menstealia.

So you don't think that practice has anything to do with it, or sponsorship? Her parents both work for a living, they are not wealthy. Much of her gear is either gifted or sponsored - and that has to do with her abilities, not daddy's wallet.

More like most of the musical talented kids you see get media time got the luck of having family that are connected to the musical world in some way. So the kids get the best possible help to learn the skills needed to make it in that world. It ain't necessarily based the parents money, but about having the knowledge on how to give the best support. Ellen don't differ from that, her dad got his own musical career. SinaDrums here on YT have an dad that have been an touring musician and now runs a recording studio. Billie Elish mom have had her own small career as a singer/songwriter. Just to mention two examples. Another similarity with these kids is that they very often got very likable personalities and seems pretty smart for their age. Opposite the typical writer of envious sounding YT comments.

Do we detect a little butthurtism ? I think we do.
Having some backing and family type background, it isn't the kids fault if they take proper advantage of their situation. What's wrong with that? 21:27
