No, you didn't. You would assess the situation and try to first learn whether or not there were people in the house. And if there were, where were they located. And the officers in Uvalde knew there were children alive inside the school. They just couldn't get to them until they had the keys. Look at the timeline. Once they got the keys they went in. The doors were locked from the inside, designed to keep active shooters out.
I looked up the NFPA report for 2020. Local fire departments responded to 1.3 million fires. These fires resulted in 3,500 civilian deaths. Of these, 379,500 were residential structural fires which caused 2,630 civilian deaths. And how many firefighters died from activities at a fire scene? 26. Nearly all of these were not deaths inside of a burning building. Do you know what this shows? I am absolutely gutted the chief of police and officers alike did not make the right calls here. I do thank the USA border officers ignoring the chief refusing his orders going into the school to take the proper actions. In my opinion, the chief needs to be terminated and arrested held accountable on 21 counts of involuntary manslaughter charges just based on his call alone misguiding his officers. The officers should be made to do a mandatory *non paid* retraining course for their failure to override the chiefs orders in which each officer could of done the moment reports came in regarding anyone shot as deadly force was indeed justified at that time forward. The school resource officer on duty should be terminated instantly and face accountability much like the chief also.
Children should feel safe always at school and never face such terrible situations. As a father and as mentioned a former law enforcement officer. My heart much like the world's is broken over this situation may all impacted regardless if you known those murdered say prayers for all those whom lost loved ones of these little angels and may they rest in peace. Send condolences to the families as well.

      Just one example of many:
Seems like common sense: We hire police to protect us, and if they don't, we can sue them, right?
Well, one certainly can try to sue! But here's the sad, dark truth: Such a lawsuit is almost certainly doomed from the get-go.
In 2005, the Supreme Court settled whether or not citizens are entitled to protection from violence from the police with a resounding "nope, see you later."
This case also involves the murder of three small children.
Until folks realize that what they *think* cops will do compared to as what they will *actually* do and make changes to this, then no nothing will happen.
Educate yourselves on these things. And figure out a way to make a change.
Why do cops sometimes act this way as far as Uvalde? Fear. They also see it as they are not being equiped with what they need and wait for SWAT teams, border patrol who are more equiped for violent crimes.
Your average beat cop deals with mental issues, traffic detail etc. Rarely and some never deal with actual violence and certainly not at this degree. So they dont know how to handle this. And they are not equiped because they rarely see this type violence.
Not making excuses. Im stating there is an issue and a disconnect from what the public thinks cops are responsible for and what the laws ..the supereme court...actually rules. And why cops dont act many times.
So now we want to defund the police even more? No. But is arming them even heavier with oh idk how about a tank, missles and AK's the answer? No.
But there definitely needs to be a change.
Understanding this from both sides may faciliate this change.
Calling them cowards, stomping our feet etc etc...wont do a thing. Educate yourselves and start writing your congressmen about this issue. Demand change. If they dont? Vote em out of office and put someone there that will pay attention.
And stop handing out assualt rifles and 2000 rounds of bullets to kids. Get social media checks, look into backgrounds more. And do away with weapons to the general public that should ONLY be issued to the military.
You want cops to defend you? Then give them at least a fighting chance also. Otherwise you are asking them to go into a suicide mission.

Cops are human and they didn't sign up to sacrifice their lives in vain. It sounds like they couldn't get into the classroom without the key. It is unrealistic to expect a minimally trained officer with a six shot revolver to go up against a maniac with an AR-15 and hundreds of rounds. I wouldn't go so far as to call the cops cowards, they just aren't the heros that many like to portray them as. There is a spectrum between selfless, brave hero and sniveling coward and the officers that day fell somewhere in the middle.

To keep saying they believed the active shooter barricaded himself inside a classroom alone is FARCICAL! For the commander on scene, the severity of disciplinary action should match the severity of lives lost. Nobody cares how many officers did not get injured when you have unarmed teachers and children getting killed while officers stand there and listen. The blood of the innocent is on the hands of these officers as well as the killer, who kept killing the kids in order to engage officers who wouldn’t engage (because that’s how troublemakers think-they crave engagement).

Where were these videos on the day this happened and where was the truth on Tuesday and the days that followed? The world watches, in horror, as authorities lie to protect themselves. We watch as they scramble to spin the outcome of an investation that makes them look like they did their job. Parents are mourning & at the same time, finding out that the people they look to for protection; lied.
