This madam is amazing. Ive always loved to learn Islam from a non biased and educated point of view of a non Muslim. Its very refreshing and just simply educational. Inshaallah i see more of her talks in youtube.
For more info on the topic I highly recommend you read her book "After the Prophet: The Epic Story of the Shia-Sunni Split in Islam" especially the audiable version which is narated by her captivating voice.
I belong Shia sect of Islam I read book after the prophet Muhammad and it was true depiction of history and besides the how lezley interpreted the concepts are amazingly beautiful Right now we are at peace with our sunni brothers but sometimes due to minority of trouble makers things get cumbersome but not to the extent of violence against each other I am talking about Pakistan but still its sensitive point . Thanks for wonderful speech
Do you believe that Prophet PBUH was an Abtar as this woman writes? Do you believe that Aisha was a Whore? Di you believe that Imam Hussain PBUH was a weak person and Hassan PBUH too?
I can’t help it but to respect this women! How can someone be so neutral and look at history with such objective approach, and completely eliminate any subjectivity that arise from one’s own bias!! U must have a very deep understanding of own self to the level it create this unique form of intelligence She inspires me. I hope I can look at the Jewish tradition with the same eye someday.
Very picturesque narration of what happened at Karbala, the heart breaking sequence of events of the typical Semitic ruthlessness, division, a fate that befell all religions, that victimized Judaism, Christianity and Sanatan/Buddhism here in India, when the Kurus destroyed the Yadav tribe of Krishna and Semitic Hinduism destroyed Buddhism. However, Lesley's narration is the first chapter of an yet another incident, much more pathetic, for which the Muslims still pay the price for, rooted in the Shia/Sunni division. During the Abbasid period, Muslims started the scientific investigation, aimed at discovering the mysteries of creation as part of the tradition (to cultivate Iman [the essence of Islam]) to gather knowledge (for which the prophet directed the Muslims even to go to distant China) in an age when 'question everything' was the leading schism with the Sunnis, when Al Haytham discovered optics (leading Galileo to invent the telescope) and the Musa brothers invented the computer, besides gather a treasure strove of knowledge in all branches,i.e. mathematics, science, medicine, economics, philosophy, etc. But this flowering of Islamic culture was cut short by the fundamental Sunni schism, when Ibn Hanbal preached that the Quran is all the knowledge Muslims needed, from which the Muslims never recovered and remained illiterate and now are ridiculed by the west who amuse at Islamophobia. Otherwise today the whole world would have marvelled at the Islamic culture. I often wonder why did the intelligent designer opt for such ruthless fate to befall all his religions. Perhaps that is the divine formulae for evolution to be flourish, that benevolence and malevolence coexist.
Lezley hazelton is my idol ..as in i have utmost respect for her work. I deeply cherish her speeches and her effort and knowledge shows her respect of all the relegions !!
Having same lineage. From Abraham, Moses, Jesus and then followed by Mohammed (Rasool Allah). I wish there was no devide and the people of the book could stay together in peace and harmony. God bless you sister Dea
Wonderful lecture and display , a perfect blending of history and literature. The way the past is explained in English literature it's not that rootedly explained in the language where it originated. Simply adore the dedication and expressions yielded. God bless 💖 , I think you have rekindled the ache of past and help us acknowledge and readress the living experience in face of death, defeat and the remembrance of the strength to be able to say that From lord we are and to Him shall we return as the tradition of Hussain.
"The Muslim world, with its history and cultures, and indeed its different interpretations of Islam, is still little known in the West. The two worlds, Muslim and non-Muslim, Eastern and Western, must, as a matter of urgency, make a real effort to get to know one another, for I fear that what we have is not a clash of civilisations, but a clash of ignorance on both sides." ~ Aga Khan IV
True! Tell them many moons ago, when Europe and the rest of the world were basking in poverty, wars, killing each other and plagues, the Middle East and the Muslim World were flourishing with Science, Maths, Literature, Chemistry, Medicine etc and Christans, Jews, Chaldeans and other religions lived in peace amongst Muslims in Muslim countries. This is even before all these new developments and technologies appeared. It seem the West has either a very short memory and had amnesia!

Lesely seems amazingly conversant, eloquent and charismatic. I just loved her book After Muhammad pubh, and now I am curious to switch on to her The first muslim.
Speechless. Very informative. 'Forgiveness is abandonment of hope of a perfect past' - such a powerful saying ❤. Raised as a Salafi/ wahabbi, I recognize the very narcissistic orthodox approach on religious issues and history and looking at the ideology as perfect, I have learnt to step away from it, although I am not a highly practicing Muslim just very average. But yes, self righteousness and rigidity, are poisonous and fuel for fanaticism.
No she was more favourable to shiah islam than the sunnis, her whole talk was really about shia islam and its beginnings. She did not go into why Hussain was such a threat to the sunnis et al. I am not saying them killing him was the right thing to do but he could of avoided it. Also the sunni or their antecedents could of just held back, but of course they did not. Both wanted power one wanted religion and power to combine, the other wanted just power and no religion.
@@Mulberry2000 this was the political situation back then. So she does not need to be involved and give her personal opinion on the matter. Whatever she believes won't matter anyways.
@@Dorian2356She is giving a lecture on Sunni - Shia split but does not go in to the Sunni side. So by definition she is giving her own opinion. She missed one big half of the equation out. She should of given the talk titled the beginnings of shia islam. What Hussian did was a massive provocative move and him knowing who he was, it was calculated as such. The caliphates were known to be ruthless and only cared about power. As the prophet muhammad did in his life, he avoided needless deaths and violence, he should of took his grandfather's lesson to heart. If the Caliphate had not challenged Hussain, their rule would of been over big time. Hussian must of known this and must of known his death would of caused massive repercussions through time. The sunni rulers must of also have known what would happen if they had killed the grandson of the prophet but did not care. In other words the caliphate of iraq would never of have the sense or grace to hold back, too much was a stake for them. Hussian should of turned back, it was in his gift, he had a way out and did not take it. Damn foolish
@@Dorian2356 Groan what a load of crap, and weak argument. Hazelton went public and we the public are entitled to critique her presentation. So if we follow your way of thinking do not talk about the moon because you have not been there or more importantly trees do not exist. Hazleton is right about the period right after Muhammad was a mess, and hard core muslims regard it as a perfect time. If you point this out to fundis you get in top big trouble esp if your a muslim. You more likely get beaten or worst being labeled as a non muslim, which means death. For example someone attributed a saying to muhammad, where he has supposeg to have said - repeat these special words and it be like freeing 10 slaves if you say it 100 times. The point is the saying completely undermines the quran which says it is good to free a slave. Not only that but the saying lets off the slave owner by giving him massive rewards for saying some words but he can keep his slaves as well. But hey if you want to be a fanboy be my guest.

Lesley Hazeleton, Your honest analysis of the Karbala martyrdom is most important and how your treatment of the events flowed step by step, is beyond description. It seems like you are watching the tragedy of Karbala through historical imagination as if you were right there and making the running commentary. I am at loss of words to adequately describe your narration of ordeals experienced by the family of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh in Karbala. those people even prevented his sons from this right by killing them in different tragic ways and the other 9 descending grandsons killed too through generations
Slightly biased work... the stories is from Shia author... there are Sunni version but the end still same the tyrant Yazid cause the death of Hussein only.. the difference is plot and aftermath of these event..
Lesley Hazleton beautifully explained the pre-cursor events of the post-departure of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) that lead to the tragedy of Karbala. What she failed to highlight in this book is that it all started with Abu Sufyan ibn Harb who was a leader, and a merchant of Mecca, accepted Islam out of fear of death when Prophet Muhammad peacefully took over Mecca in the conquest of Mecca after the treaty of Hudaybiyya was breached by the Banu Bakr, allies of the Quraysh, attacked the Banu Khuza'a, who had recently become allies of the Muslims. Here my question to our Muslim brothers and sisters is that, after accepting Islam out of fear of death one would love the founder of Islam or hate him? Clearly, this hate was deliberately inculcated in the son and grandson of Abu Sufyan ibn Harb who schemed not only against the prophet but his progeny as well. This is well-documented Islamic history that leads to Karbala and beyond. Yazid the son of Muawiyah son of Abu Sufyan ibn Harb specifically took revenge of these defeats of his father and grandfather and to complicate the matter, some companions of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) did not take the will of the prophet referred in the hadith as “The Calamity of Thursday”. Although, the succession of the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) was already chosen by Allah, however, some companions deliberately not wanting to accept this fact and that’s why “The Calamity of Thursday” occurred just before Prophet’s departure. One thing is very clear to me that, it’s not up to man to choose the successor of a Prophet, it's up to Allah who He chooses as a successor after the prophet. Like other prophet came before Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH), and after him until the seal of the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his progeny). In addition to more than 300 verses, Allah directly revealed in the Quran in favor of Hazrat Ali (PBUH), the following hadith of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) clearly reflects that Hazrat Ali (PBUH) is the successor of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny). “Will you not be pleased that you will be to me like Haroun (Aaron) to Musa (Moses)? But there will be no prophet after me.” Regardless of Shia and Sunni scholars’ commentaries, it is my belief that our Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) would not have uttered above words if he is not permitted by Allah (God) - read Surah Najm (53). Finally, what our Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) did is to bring the people closer to each other, and in doing so, he did not step back from sacrificing his own life, he also sacrificed his family (progeny) in Karbala to save Islam from the corruption of Yazid and his thugs. Otherwise, today Muslim ummah will be openly doing what Yazid of his time had done so. Few examples are doing Jumma on Wednesday instead of Friday. Eating and drinking prohibited articles such as pork, and alcohol. Yazid made Kaaba a horse stable and a womanizer, and many more examples like these. To bring ummah closer to each other, I would ask the following questions and you all already know the answers. But you need to follow them through. 1. How can we resolve this conflict? • Do you want to choose a corrupt guardian or a “Just” guardian who listens from an ordinary person to a leader of a society? • If you choose a “Just” guardian, will you follow him to the letter or make shortcuts? • If you follow him to the letter, do you think society/ummah will be better or worse? • If you think that society/ummah will be better, then the guardian will not only a “Just” person but also a pragmatic one that will make no errors or mistakes to alleviate and elevate mankind to the next level. • Over the centuries invested world powers used this divide for their own benefits. Therefore, it is needed to get the truth out in the open and educate general masses of the purported lies that were spread by these invested world powers. • Imam-e-Zamana (a.s), the "Massiah" we all are waiting for will be that personality that will alleviate and elevate mankind to the next level. And to bring him back from the occultation as a leader of the ummah, we as a collective Muslim society must find “Just” guardians at every level to help Imam-e-Zaman in his ultimate fight against the evils in society. 2. Reconciliation of Sunni and Shia? • Please read www.ezsoftech.com/stories/mis65.asp. 3. Thank you for clearing, it is for sure she hasn’t read most of islamic books, The Ghadir event which perfectly clear the leader after Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and there are many event happened during Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) which showed the superior of Imam Ali Ibn Abu Talib (PBUH) to be the leader after Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
While sincerely appreciating Professor Lesley Hazleton’s efforts wrt her talk, as a Non-Muslim, to provide her perspective on the Great Divide between Shia & Sunni Islam, her discourse could be far more valuable, if attention was given to the events during the ailment & death of Prophet Muhamnad (PBUH) as well as his last year alongside the events leading to accession of Abu Bakr to caliphate, to gain true and proper perspective in this regard but since “Everything is paradox,", therefore, her remarks at the start of discourse (Muslim History of the time written/compiled during Omayyid Rule portrays Sunni version with wee bits of sporadic truth not hard to find/discern for a keen eye) become indicative of: “The danger is one-dimensional thinking" 🙏
One correction: Our Prophet had 3 sons - 1. Qasim 2. Abdullah (Born pre prophet hood) and 3. Ibraheem (Born final phase of Prophethood) but all three Allah didnot let them to Adults.... he took them away early...
Lesley just one correction is that prophet Mohammed (PUH) actually had 3 sons, Qasim from his wife Khadijah who died before the prophecy at the age 2 years, Abdullah and he died as an infant baby during his prophecy from his wife Khadijah, and Ibrahim who was the only son from another wife other than Khadijah her name is Marie Alqiptiya and he died after his prophecy at the age approx 2 years old.

15 Astonishing facts About Islam That you Really don't know ! 1) “Islam” means “surrender” or “submission” . “Salam” (which means “peace”) is the root word of “Islam”. In a religious context the word “Islam” means “the surrendering of one’s will (without compulsion) to the true will of God in an effort to achieve peace”. 2) “Muslim” means “anyone or anything that surrenders itself to the true will of God”. By this definition, everything in nature (trees, animals, planets, etc.) are “muslims” because they are in a state of surrender to God’s will. In other words, they are fulfilling the purpose for which God created them. 3) Islam is not a new religion or cult. It is a universal way of life and civilization. Again, Islam is not a new religion, rather it is the same message preached by all earlier prophets such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all). But God’s final message to mankind was revealed to the last prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him), as a revival of lost teachings of previous prophets and as a reconfirmation of the eternal message. Studies show that between 1.5 and 1.8 billion people in the world identify their religion as Islam. Along with Judaism and Christianity it traces its roots through Prophet Abraham and back to the first humans Adam and Eve. 4) There are five pillars of practice in Islam. These practices must be undertaken with the best of effort in order to be considered a true Muslim: A) Declaration of faith: A statement proclaiming the belief in One God and that Muhammad is a prophet of God. To become Muslim a person simply recites this statement publicly, and in Arabic. B) Formal prayer five times a day. C) Poor-due tax: 2.5% of one’s excess wealth given to the needy once a year. D) Fasting during the daylight hours in the month of Ramadan. E) Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once, if physically and financially able. 5) There are six articles of faith in Islam. These are the basic beliefs that one must have in order to be considered a true Muslim. They are belief in: A) the One God. B) all of the true prophets of God. C) the original scriptures revealed to Moses, David, Jesus and Muhammad. D) the angels. E) the Day of Judgment and the Hereafter. F) destiny. 6) Muslims believe in the one Creator of the Universe, referring to Him as “Allah” which is the Arabic word for “God”. Muslims worldwide, even English-speaking Muslims, frequently use the Arabic word “Allah” because Arabic is the language of the Qur’an. But Allah is no different than the God of Abraham, Moses and Jesus. The Creator is the Creator regardless of what people call Him. In the English language He is most commonly referred to as “God”. Yet Jesus spoke a different language, referring to God as “Eloi” in Mark 15:34 of the New Testament. Are “God” and “Eloi” different gods? Many Hispanics call God “Dios” and many French say “Dieu”. It would logically follow then that people who refer to God as “Allah” in the Arabic language are referring to the very same God. In fact, many Arab Jews and Arab Christians call God “Allah”. And the word “Allah” is written in Arabic script on the walls of many Arab churches and on the pages of Arabic Bibles. So while the understanding of God may differ between faith groups, the various names used to describe Him does not change the fact that the one Creator of the Universe is the God of all people. This is Allah Almighty, The Creator, the one and only true God. He is my God, our God: "Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi (Throne) extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great." (Quran 2:255) {Say, “He is Allah, the One. Allah, to Whom the creatures turn for their needs. He begets not, nor was He begotten, and there is none like Him.” } (Quran, 112:1-4) Allah Almighty says in the Quran: "Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." [Quran 39:53] 7) The Islamic concept of God is that He is loving, merciful and compassionate. Islam also teaches that He is all-knowing and the perfect judge of affairs, and will punish (or forgive) accordingly. However, Allah once said to Muhammad, “My mercy prevails over my wrath”. So Islam teaches a balance between fear and hope, protecting one from both complacency and despair. 8) Muslims believe that God has revealed 99 of His names, or attributes, in the Qur’an. It is through these names that one can come to know the Creator. A few of these names are the All-Merciful, the All-Knower, the Protector, the Provider, the Near, the First, the Last, the Hidden and the Source of All Peace. 9) The Christian concept of “vicarious atonement” (the idea that Jesus died for the sins of humanity) is alien to the Islamic concept of personal responsibility. Islam teaches that on the Day of Judgment every person will be resurrected and will be accountable to God for their every word and deed. Consequently, a practicing Muslim is always striving to be righteous while hoping and praying for God’s acceptance and grace. 10) Muslims believe in all of the true prophets that preceded Muhammad, from Adam to Jesus. Muslims believe they brought the same message of voluntarily surrendering to God’s will (islam, in a generic sense) to different peoples at different times. Muslims also believe they were “muslims” (again, in a generic sense) since they followed God’s true guidance and surrendered their will to Him. 11) Muslims neither worship Muhammad nor pray through him. Muslims worship the Unseen, Omniscient Creator, Allah. 12) Muslims accept the original unaltered Torah (as revealed to Moses) and the original unaltered Bible (as revealed to Jesus) since they were revealed by God. But none of these scriptures exist today in their original form or in their entirety. Therefore, Muslims follow the subsequent, final and preserved revelation of God, the Qur’an. 13) The Qur’an was not authored by Muhammad. It was authored by God, revealed to Muhammad (through angel Gabriel) and written into physical form by his companions. 14) The original Arabic text of the Qur’an contains no flaws or contradictions and has not been altered since its revelation. 15) Actual 7th century Qur’ans, complete and intact, are on display in museums in Turkey and other places around the world. 🔹️ EVIDENCE ISLAM IS TRUTH The following are Scientific, logical, and historical proofs that Islam is the Truth: www.islamreligion.com/category/33/evidence-islam-is-truth/ 🔸️ For more information about Islam: www.islam-guide.com 🔹️ The Prophet of Mercy Website (Everything to know about the Prophet of Islam) www.mercyprophet.org/mul/ 🔹️ "Myths about The Prophet of Islam" www.muhammadfactcheck.org 🔹️ Islam and Racism Islam with its universal concept of brotherhood rejects all artificial and man-made marks of distinction. (Quran 49:13) No one can claim any superiority over the other based on race, color, language or wealth and this is emphasized in the last sermon of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) showing high regard of humanity irrespective of color or race: "“All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor does a black have any superiority over a white except by piety and good action.” 🔹️ How to convert (revert) to Islam Basically to become a Muslim is very simple.. you need to say the decleration of faith oraly while you believe in it by heart with a firm conviction and unshakeable faith. After watching the video and reading the comments I would like to clear up some things. As a sunni muslim this is not the first time I heard this story. Most of us also learn about the injustices that happened to Hadrat Hassan and Hadrat Hussein. We also despise Yazid. We love Hadrat Ali and Hadrat Fatima as well as the Prophet’s PBUH grandchildren. However, what was not explained is why some Shias promote so much falsehood and hate for first 3 caliphs. These stories are so hateful that any who believe them could not possibly imagine any unity with sunni muslims. I dont know how many Shias believe this (some of my friends are Shia, but they never mentioned this to me) but, they claim Hadrat Umar is responsible for Hadrat Fatima’s death or that he even tried to marry her. That he used violence on women, that he constantly intimidated Hadrat Ali into silence. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Given that Hadrat Abu Bakr and Hadrat Umar loved the Prophet’s PBUH family more than any Sunni or Shia, it is impossible that they would harm any of them. Hadrat Umar often took to council before making decisions. He would first seek advice from those who knew the most Hadith, then those who memorized the Quran, then from Hadrat Ali. He often followed this method of what would the Prophet PBUH do? What does the Quran say? What does Ali say? In regards to what he is allowed from the treasury he followed Hadrat Ali’s suggestion because it was the strictest one. This also implies he might consider Hadrat Ali his successor. He also named Hadrat Uthman and Hadrat Ali as to who should be next caliph and that the council should choose. He also told them strictly not to choose any of his own sons because he didn’t want to be accused of making the caliphate hereditary. He once asked the Prophet PBUH if he could ask Hadrat Uthman to marry his daughter Hafsa. The Prophet PBUH replied that he would find a better husband for Hafsa and a better wife for Uthman, then the Prophet PBUH married Hafsa and married his daughter to Hadrat Uthman. (This is in response to claims Umar wanted to marry the Prophet’s daughter, but was refused and somehow forced the Prophet to marry his daughter) Hadrat Umar married Hadrat Ali and Hadrat Fatima’s daughter Umm Kulthoom. Claims that Hadrat Ali was forced to do this or that Hadrat Ali would marry his daughter to her mother’s killer only make Hadrat Ali seem like a terrible father which is untrue. Hadrat Ali could not be forced or intimidated to do that to his own daughter. He agreed because Hadrat Umar told him that no man would treat his daughter better. Hadrat Umar used to call Hadrat Ali “Abu Hassan” out of love. Al-Shaykh al-Tusi and al-Saduq both narrate accounts of ‘Umar’s dissatisfaction with anyone who would in any way speak ill of Imam ‘Ali. In one such instance, someone denigrated ‘Ali in the presence of ‘Umar. Pointing at the grave of the Prophet, ‘Umar said, “Do you know who is buried here? Do you not know that his name is Muhammad ibn ‘Abdillah ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib and his is ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib? Woe to you! You should not speak of ‘Ali but good, for if you slight him, you have hurt whom is buried here.” (I found this source that refers to Ali as Imam Ali, so it seems even some Shias do not believe in disrespecting the first 3 caliphs) To explain the first 4 caliphates as “perfect”… its not so much perfect, its the belief that it is all the will of Allah. This is hard to explain to nonmuslims, but even though we are saddened that they were martyred we also believe in fate. Everyone has a fated time when they will die. We grieve, but we do not remain in a constant state of suffering. This applies to the hard times we face in our own lives, we respond by saying “it is the will of Allah” and try to get through it with patience. To become bankrupt or ill or lose someone and proclaim that an injustice was dealt to us is not the way of a muslim. This life is temporary and we need to be thinking about the afterlife. Martyrdom is an honor and we believe they were martyred because they are honorable people and we believe they will receive what is promised in the afterlife. But of course muslims extremists and rulers like Yazid anger us. I did not know the story about the horse and the doves and I at least gained some perspective on how “sacred”, as Lesley hazleton put it, the Shias see Hadrat Hassan and Hussain. Like she said this is where muslims divide into Sunni and Shia. Though we love and respect the first 4 caliphs and the Prophet’s PBUH family we can not see them as sacred. This is an attribute only belonging to Prophet Muhammad PBUH, that is why we are called “Sunni” meaning Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. In our view to see anyone after the Prophet PBUH as sacred would be against Islam. For any Shia and even Sunni reading this I would like to make clear that our religion in no way does not love and respect the Prophet’s PBUH family. For any Shia who wants to grieve Hadrat Hassan and Hussein you can do that as a Sunni muslim, but if you see them as sacred then this is where we disagree. I think another difference is that we do not believe it is okay to cause self harm or grieve in that way, we believe the Prophet PBUH told us not to do that. When it comes to religious beliefs we do not follow anything after the Prophet PBUH, we also believe that the first 4 caliphs are rightly guided and did not do anything in their rule against what the Prophet PBUH taught. The Prophet’s PBUH family is also rightly guided, but unfortunately rulership was wrongly taken from them. I was taught that Hadrat Hassan and Muawiya came to an agreement that Hadrat Hassan would become Caliph after Muawiya’s caliphate ended, Hadrat Hassan agreed in order to end more bloodshed. Muawiya ruled fairly, but was unaware of his son’s plotting. Muawiya’s son Yazid plotted to have Hadrat Hassan poisoned before his father’s caliphate ended so that the agreement would become void. This is exactly what happened. With Hadrat Hassan no longer living Muawiya gave the Caliphate to his son. This was his biggest mistake, not seeing the evil that Yazid was, showing favoritism by giving his caliphate to his son which no caliph had done before. He knew the Prophet PBUH’s grandson Hadrat Husayn was alive and should have rightfully given the caliphate to him, but being a father blinded him from seeing Yazid for what he was. And then the tragedy ensued under Yazid’s rule. After learning some of the things Shia muslims believe in after the tragedy I have a better understanding and I respect what is sacred to them. I only wish they would respect what we respect and not spread this hate for the first 3 caliphs because its completely false. I dont exactly know what Extremists on the Sunni side say because I dont accept that they are Sunni, but most Sunni muslims do not disrespect the family of the Prophet PBUH at all. We do not see them as sacred, but I dont believe this is the same as disrespecting or discrediting them. I still have a question about when exactly did the Shia Sunni split occur? If both agree on the tragedy of the Prophet's PBUH family then the disagreement is on the sacredness of his grandchildren. So at some point after the death of Hadrat/Imam Hussain at the hands of Yazid would have to have been the discussion on whether they were sacred or not, and probably at the same time when concerns over Hadrat Ali's rightful succession was discussed too. Those discussions that we have today about hadith and Quran verses that imply Hadrat Ali or the Shura.
@Aprils Shiasm is based on hatred...they have lots of man-made stories; That's an entirely different religion than actual Islam. We believe in Qura'an & Sunnahs.....bks of Ahadeeth, Siha sitta.....the most authentic books....shias don't believe in any of them. Their book is Najul balaghat....and it's credibility is questionable!! They curse out all the Sahabaan e Karaam, not only the 4 khalifa as. They are blasfamous about Ayesha (R) . There are many discrepancies in their Aqaa' id; Their prophet is Hazrat Ali (R) mainly ; besides the' panje tun' they do not acknowledge any Islamic Top Notch figures.. They even made changes in the Qura'an ( Nauzu billahi min zalik). That's pretty screwed up cult😢
About Shia Sunni divide one must admit the fact that Prophet Mohammed was the last and seal of Prophethood. The message and guidance Allah wanted to convey to the humanity was completed before the demise of the Prophet Muhammad. Prophet Mohammed was not a monarch that he should have a successor. If only we could understand that Prophethood ended and concluded with Prophet Mohammed and the political strife between Prophet Mohammed's comrades and his family has nothing to do with Islam and no way part of it.. It is high time that Muslim should only focus on Quran and Prophet Sunnah and stop there. The comrades and Prophet family were humans like us and whatever good or bad they did they themselves are answerable to Allah. We are not judge but Allah alone is.

Allah (S.W.T.) in the Holy Qu'ran forbids Muslim to divide into sects (30:31-32 & 6:159). Rasul Allah (S.A.W.W.) forbid Muslim to divide into sects. Hon'ble Imam and Caliph Ali (A.S.) forbid sectarianism. Rashidun Caliphs (R.A.) never preached sects. Hon'ble Imam Hussain (A.S.) cursed his enemies to divide into sects.
My brother..v are not referred as Shia sunnies rather v should be momins. .n v are Muslims but more importantly v are humans n v should be a momin. .let's pray to Allah to guide us to be momins
The biggest difference between Shia and Sunni sect is that Shia Refers to Ahlebait (family of Prophet pbuh) while Sunnis are more inclined to sahabas after Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Allah does what He wills, every martyr is the luckiest amongst us! lets focus and rise above, we wont be questioned about what happend in the past, we will be questioned about our deeds and our sins. How many people we hurt and how many people we helped, and the Quraan that was suppose to unite us... how much of it did each of us read, understand and follow in our lives. There is a reason Prophet Muhommad SAW didn't have a son, it was to prove, that your lineage is irrelavant, you can be black slave like Bilal R.A but if you have the love of Allah in your heart .... Thats what truly determines your value in the eyes of Allah, and if you truly ask Allah for guidance Allah always shows you the correct way. Allah knows the best, a leaf cant move w/o His will.
Ms. Hazelton is referring to the Jewish temple in Jerusalem which is three thousand years old. She acknowledges that only the doorsteps are still there but not the rest of the temple. But this is not true. In Jerusalem today there is only Al-Massjid Al-Aqssaa, the third holiest Mosque. Israel has been digging for any ruins of a Jewish temple, but has failed miserably.
Love her articulation but she omitted the whole abu baker and Omar and how they play a huge role in shia hating Sunnis. This seems to be a poetic tribute to Hussein.
@@muhammadasimansari597 may you come out of the books written by yourselves. Most of the sunnis don't really know anything, as mentioned by the lady herself. All of this doesn't mean that the stories rawafidh invented about the caliphs and others companions of the Prophet saww are true. I have researched all my life and found them all to be either misquoted or utterly fabricated. Of course, the lady cannot understand the complexity with which the stories were made because she has not LIVED the conflict as WE do.
@@thesoulsplitter brother, nobody is an eyewitness of many Sunnah of prophet Mohammed pbuh and that's what is used by many anti Islamic forces to create divide. So please don't say that we think, we r the eyewitness of the tragedy of karbala. I am also researching and have been since long now but only to conclude that I know nothing. It's good that you think that you know a lot but be careful of Satan. All I say is I am not a decendent of prophet Mohammed pbuh and hold any biases towards his family. But somewhere I think that nobody retaliates against the assassinations of such a great personalities except for Shia's. Are you so inconsiderate of your revered personalities that you don't speak anything against killings then nd now? Think about that please. Why are we sleeping?
Big questions: Did Ali himself claim Calif status straight after Muhammad? Did he teach a different (Shia) form of islam? Was the religion taught differently when he became calif? Was there a different teaching and belief system claimed by the two parties at the time of Ali? None of this was answers and these are the most important questions when it comes to Shia/Sunni understand. These are the questions mostly unknown or talked about.
The Shia sunni conflict is basically between people who supported different candidates to inherit the leadership. This did continue into Husain's times. There have been eruptions of scuffles everywhere. Yet the first question talks about the Shia sunni divide in the gulf countries even today. No one points out that despite living together from centuries sharing the same heritage. How do we forget that the problems are compounded today by the western people for the control of oil. She mentions the oil in the introduction but doesn't follow it up later. However, she tries to be unbiased
I always thought that the differences of sunni and shia is rooted on their view and recognition on the order of caliphate succession; purely political. How they worhsip the god is not my business and most are similar (not flagelation though, self harm is forbidden).
Shia Sunni or Protestant catholic or any other denominations of a belief system is rooted in human condition..What concerns me is that in these very powerful traditions we are losing the truth somewhere and there is a certain definite truth otherwise these would have vanished if these were only figment of human imagination...
I dont know who the sunnis here are? May e Middle Eastern ones?..as a sufi pakistani ..karbala and ashura is the greatest day of mourning for sunnis .. we do not celebrate weddings and birthdays as the story of karbala are told and we grieve ...
After the death of the Prophet (pbhu), two cities Damascus and Baghdad drew the surviving descendants, the Quraesh sided with Damascus while the Prophet's descendants sided with the Shia of Baghdad. I would like to see Lesley write the theology of Shia (never published) that blessed them with divine knowledge that turned them masters of Golden Age of Islam (when Musa brothers made computers 1000 years before the modern ones, when Mu'tazila (question everything) was abandoned by fundamentalists and the Muslims were shoved to the back ranks, by Christianity and Judaism (no fault of theirs).

No, Hussain didn't BEG for water. He said: "this 6 month old baby is thirty. If you are not Muslim , at least act humanely and chivalrously" But Harmalah answered with a 3 pointed arrow which sat on the throat of the baby. Shed plenty of blood from the baby's throat and Hussain (AS) kept his hands under the pouring blood and threw it into the air. As narrated no drop of that blood came back from the sky onto the ground. Hussain took the baby to the back of the tents and dug a hole with his sword, then burried the baby. NO ONE CAN EVER IMAGINE HOW A FATHER MIGHT BE FEELING AT THAT MOMENT. May God damn the Jews who caused this greatest catastrophe in human history.
Very well spoken but with some inaccuracies. Hazrat Khadijah r.a.did not bear four daughters and a son. Only one daughter. The other three “daughters” were of Hazrat Khadijah from her earlier marriages. The “son” was not from her either. He was from another wife, who was a convert from Judaism. Also, this story is very incomplete without the mention of “the Calamity of Thursday” and “the Event of 18th Dhul Hujjah”.
Truth Seeker I’m assuming you are a Shia. What proof do you have that Khadijah RA did not bear any sons. It’s recorded in your Shia Hadith books that the Prophet SAW had 4 daughters and 2 sons from khadijah RA and one sons Maria al Qittibiya RA. Do you even consider the sons of the Prophet ahlul bayt.
@@wiser9233 I am neither Shia nor Sunni, just Muslim willing to find the truth, no matter how unpleasent it might be. As far as I see, there is confusion on how many children the Prophet had through Hazrat Khadijah r.a. She was married before and had children from her previous marriages. Children who survived to adulthood was Hazrat Fatimah r.a. Apparently he had a son by the name of Al Qasim through Hazrat Khadijah but he died in infancy. He had another son by the name of Ibrahim through a lady called Hazrat Maria bint Sham-un r.a. but he too died in his infancy. As for who is considered as Ahlul Bait, there is clear reference in the Quran, Sura Al-Ahzab, Ayat 32-34. Having said that not all of the "household" were purified as were the members of Ahlal Kisa. Members of Ahlal Kisa are only Hazrat Ali a.s, Hazrat Fatimah r.a, Hazrat Hassan, r.a. and Hazrat Hussain r.a.
There is no difference now in these both sects. In Pakistan now they are living peacefully because they have understood their real enemy. Even marriages between both communities are becoming common.

"forgiveness is abndoning of all hopes of a perfect past"
But there will be no prophet after me.”
Regardless of Shia and Sunni scholars’ commentaries, it is my belief that our Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) would not have uttered above words if he is not permitted by Allah (God) - read Surah Najm (53).

These practices must be undertaken with the best of effort in order to be considered a true Muslim:
A) Declaration of faith: A statement proclaiming the belief in One God and that Muhammad is a prophet of God.
They are belief in:
A) the One God.
He is my God, our God:
"Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."
(Quran 2:255)
{Say, “He is Allah, the One. Allah, to Whom the creatures turn for their needs. He begets not, nor was He begotten, and there is none like Him.” }
(Quran, 112:1-4)
Allah Almighty says in the Quran:
"Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
[Quran 39:53]
7) The Islamic concept of God is that He is loving, merciful and compassionate.

Allah Almighty says in the noble Quran:
"O mankind, indeed We (Allah) have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted."
(Quran 49:13)
No one can claim any superiority over the other based on race, color, language or wealth and this is emphasized in the last sermon of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) showing high regard of humanity irrespective of color or race:
"“All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor does a black have any superiority over a white except by piety and good action.”
🔹️ How to convert (revert) to Islam
Basically to become a Muslim is very simple.. you need to say the decleration of faith oraly while you believe in it by heart with a firm conviction and unshakeable faith.
The decleration of Faith in Islam (The Shahada)
The Shahada (in Arabic) can be declared as follows :
“ASH-HADU ANLA ELAHA ILLA-ALLAH WA ASH-HADU ANNA MOHAMMADAN RASUL-ALLAH”
The English translation is :
“I bear witness that there is no deity (none truly to be worshipped) but, Allah, and I bear witness that Mohammad is the messenger of Allah.”
However, it would not be sufficient for anyone to only utter this testimony oraly either in private or in public; but rather, he should believe in it by heart with a firm conviction and unshakeable faith. If one is truly sincere and complies with the teachings of Islam in all his life, he will find himself a new born person.

(This is in response to claims Umar wanted to marry the Prophet’s daughter, but was refused and somehow forced the Prophet to marry his daughter)
Hadrat Umar married Hadrat Ali and Hadrat Fatima’s daughter Umm Kulthoom.
Woe to you! You should not speak of ‘Ali but good, for if you slight him, you have hurt whom is buried here.” (I found this source that refers to Ali as Imam Ali, so it seems even some Shias do not believe in disrespecting the first 3 caliphs)
To explain the first 4 caliphates as “perfect”… its not so much perfect, its the belief that it is all the will of Allah.
@Aprils
Shiasm is based on hatred...they have lots of man-made stories;
That's an entirely different religion than actual Islam.
There are many discrepancies in their Aqaa' id;
Their prophet is Hazrat Ali (R) mainly ; besides the' panje tun' they do not acknowledge any Islamic Top Notch figures..

Ms. Hazelton is referring to the Jewish temple in Jerusalem which is three thousand years old. She acknowledges that only the doorsteps are still there but not the rest of the temple.
What would the thesis statement be for this book im having trouble.
The Shia sunni conflict is basically between people who supported different candidates to inherit the leadership. This did continue into Husain's times. There have been eruptions of scuffles everywhere. Yet the first question talks about the Shia sunni divide in the gulf countries even today. However, she tries to be unbiased
I always thought that the differences of sunni and shia is rooted on their view and recognition on the order of caliphate succession; purely political. How they worhsip the god is not my business and most are similar (not flagelation though, self harm is forbidden).

He said: "this 6 month old baby is thirty. If you are not Muslim , at least act humanely and chivalrously"
But Harmalah answered with a 3 pointed arrow which sat on the throat of the baby. Shed plenty of blood from the baby's throat and Hussain (AS) kept his hands under the pouring blood and threw it into the air.
