You can buy spring loaded ice cleats for your boots. You just snap them on when needed, I use them at work when needed.

We've had our wood storage right next to our house for years. Our driveway gets very icy, so we buy bags of sand from the big box store or building supply store. Pour into a 5 gallon pail with a cover and use a tin can to spread where needed. Apply as needed. ❤

We use a sandy gravel mix for the icy days like yours. No salt or chemicals, just a bit of grit to help with traction.

I think it’s a good idea to put the wood closer to your house. I heard at least 10-15 feet but check with zoning. Also Opening a shed to the east is by far the most common from what I hear. As a general rule very little weather comes in from the east. So storing wood within your east-facing shed will be very well protected from the elements. My dad heated our home with wood and coal. During the winter he would clean the wood stove and toss the warm ashes in our driveway to melt the snow. You have a long path to the animals homes so maybe a few bags of Ice Melt would help melt the snow and the ice. By the way your tub does look so much better.

As long as it’s not against the house, few feet away. Although yes you will get animals.. even though I read the basement /animal reply lol just hope weasels, skunks don’t decide to live there. Tub looks fantastic! You will so enjoy your first soak staring at the stars.

I vote yes to having your wood source closer to your house.
I couldn’t help but chuckle when your pigs were crunching on those fruits and veggies, and the other sounds their mouths and snouts were making. It reminded me of when we were little kids and just starting to have better manners, Mom would tell us that we sound like little piggies eating. 😁
I am so thrilled for you that after all your labor even just one coat of the marine paint made such a tremendous effect on that tub. It’s going to be amazing!! I am very proud of you. ❤

I don't know if this is a good idea but I think in Michigan we used to put some ash on the snow so that the dark color would help the sun heat and melt the snow..

We used to used salt on the ice but someone told us use granular fertilizer and it worked too and the grass beside the driveway benefited from the fertilizer in the spring and didn't kill it like the salt did.

    • @ElysiaEnglish

we try not to use anything on the driveway or paths to melt snow because we dont want anything to run into the land. Reason being we have animals that eat the grasses that will grow and we dont want any chemicals or bad things leaking into their grass food

Maybe I can help you with your meat bird decision. Every year we raise 150 meat birds for ourselves and our grown kids families. The first year we git the chick's in April and had to keep heat on them for a month. Then when they got big it was so hot that there were days when we lost 7 to 10 birds from the heat. So, now we get the chick's in August when it is warm and they need to be warm and it is cool when they need it cool. It works out way better with very little losses. Oh and we are in haliburton, so sane as you Barrie weather.
I think you should do it, it's the best chicken you will ever have. You will never want to buy store bought again. Good luck

How to kick up the outside of the tub a notch! Paint a base coat of white. Buy a fancy stencil. For the paint for the stencil, use white paint and add a texture media to the paint and stencil this mixture on. When dry, dab on GOLD paint or gold wax onto the raised textured part. Kascha has details on her RUclips channel how to do this process. It's fabulous looking!!

Not sure how the layout is at your home so this might not work but my idea is to use that wall in the pantry that has the window behind the place where you once had the covered freezer. .. put your wood outside that wall and have a opening inside the house with a barn door idea where you slide the door and there is your wood. No need to go outside and you can make the opening draft proof and a sloped roof to keep the wood dry.

I don't know if you know about "flapper discs " they are for angle grinders they have several layers of sand paper they can metal ,ceramic wood to bear metal etc if that's how far you want to go. While typing you are about to paint but if this fails try flapper disc less hours in work in Australia it cost
$ 7.00 a disc but seem cheaper man man hours are less do you say woman hours if you do it.
My lawyer man told me about it when I was bringing plough discs to bear metal so they could be welded into a flower pot/ stand. After that I used rust kill base and top to turn from rust to pillar box red. To sit amount my garden (green) and red stood out brilliantly
Even if you buy only one and try it out on junk to see how it works so well

Also the tub is looking great. Glad to see you using a mask while doing that sanding but don't forget to protect your eyes. Keep up the great work.
