Excellent review! Great comparison with the Rasman (which I have not ridden). When I'm not riding Orcas, I've found the T.Rice Pro is my daily. Looking into the Apex Orca just to complete a pawwwwd. I appreciate the thorough review!
Hi James I'm really torn between sizing on this one ... I already have a 153 orca and mc wayfinder ...I'm about 191 to 193 lbs with my gear on and us size 10.5 thirty two lashed and mullair xd3 boots .... i feel the 153 might be too small but then I had the original 158cm goldmember and think that's alot of board ... I've also got the 152 dancehaul so I've got no problem with wide boards ... just wanna make sure the 157 is my best bet
@@thegoodridesnow same dilemma I have with the ride shadowban .. to go 155w or 157 .. it seems a touch narrow on the 157 but an all mountain for me 155 is too short ... I guess ducked out the 157 might be ok as I'm happy riding ducked out 15 15 on twins and directional twins
@@thegoodridesnow also to note ive got lots of park boards , use the gnu gremlin for ripping carves on icey hard pack , and got quite a few directional pow boards , was looking at the golden and the RIde Shadowban as a sort of quiver killer on days i cant be bothered bringing 2 or 3 boards hahaha, Guess im a bit of a gear whore like you James haha
I know it’s a significant different board but how does this compare to a mercury? I currently have a Mercury and wanting to add this my quiver but afraid they might be similar.
There is nothing similar about these boards so it would be a good addition to your quiver. Especially if you want a different camber profile, way different feel underfoot, a much more directional board with a good bit of taper. Your Mercury is almost a directional twin so getting this will be a massive change up.
Hi James, I’m 5’5, 100 lbs and size 7.I’m using 144 orca, it prove me a lot with this board, it makes me really like libtech’s board, I wanna buy golden orca for my next level snowboarding, but the shortest length is 150cm, 150 golden orca’s stand distance can fit me, I’m miserable that should I buy golden orca? Could you please give me some advice, thank you! By the way, I’m proving my carving skill and usually I’m snowboarding on piste.
So I would not buy a Golden Orca. Too big for you. You want to ride the Golden Orca a little bigger but not 6cm bigger. You will have trouble turning that. Hit me up here so we can do a deeper dive and I can help you properly. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
They for sure work if you sized the board right for your specs. If you have the Strata's already I wouldn't upgrade. If you haven't bought them I would also consider the Falcor and Atlas.
@@thegoodridesnow Appreciate the reply thanks! Yes, Stratas are from my current setup. I may be a little underweight for the 161. (205lbs)… but I got it from a friend for a great deal! I’m guessing I should get a stiffer binding to better drive the board?
Hi I am 5'9" 160-165lb with a size 10.5 boot. I'm looking into riding some powder, but need something that I can still do some 180s/360s with just off the little humps in the terrain as well as riding the rest of the resort without having to switch boards. I feel like the golden orca is the board for that. I currently ride an all mtn libtech on the shorter side (154 skate banana) for my weight/height so those ground tricks are easier, but the board is not fast. I know you said this board isn't fast either, but I was wondering if I got the 157 if it would give me that speed on groomed trails while still getting good powder performance, or am I sacrificing something by getting a longer board and I should just go with the 153?
The 153 GA is a lot more board vs the 154 Skate Banana. It is wider and has more surface area so this would be a decent upgrade. I would say go 157 if you want a good bit extra float and a much faster ride than what you have now. 10.5 boots will control it well but it will feel like a lot of board for 160-165lbs on groomers compared to what you are used to. I would go 153 if ground tricks are more important and 157 if float and more speed is more important.
It's going to be pretty wide for your specs. It depends on what you ride now and what you are used to but yeah I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending it based on the info I have. Hit me up here if you want to get into this more. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Hey, Beastie! Just a general / rando ? ----- Why does Mervin do this hybrid-rocker profile (for the Orcas) as opposed to just a straight-up camber profile? What is the advantage of going camber zones under each foot / but then having that flat middle zone (?) ---- Ha, I've always been a disciple of straight-up camber... and I guess I'm just wondering why Mervin goes with this camber/flat/camber combo (is that something that Travis insisted on)? That's my biggest hesitation in not picking up an Orca (that strange flat section that basically disrupts a true arc of traditional camber)... So, ha, yeah, just wondering if you have any insight as to w h y Mervin does this profile over trad camber
It's just their thing and average riders seem to like it but don't know for sure. I'm not in their internal meetings. One thing though. Its more a mellow elliptical camber on the front foot, rocker and then a pretty abrupt camber on the back foot. Mervin (Lib/Gnu) does have the Gremlin for riders like you that want something like the Orca but that rides like full camber. If you want a camber Orca that's the best route. Or If you want to get into it more hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
hi, im 6 foot 180 lbs size 10 boot. for golden orca sizing im looking at 157/161. im considering going bigger at 161 for better upper end performance in bigger terrain and deeper pow. do you think that makes sense? or is it gonna be too much board for me?
I would not do the 53, 157 is a much better fit for this board. The 61 is a little questionable because its a little big for you 10 boots and weight. If you want really deep powder peformamce the 153 regular orca has more set back and directional float than the 57 golden orca.
What I should do? I have 9 boot size and I love how this board rides in 153 but it's too short for me... Normaly I ride 160... Could I have an equivalent board? Maybe Lib Tech RASMAN 161? In Golden Orca 153 we have 26.3 weist and 8 side cut and in RASMAN 161 we have 26.1 weist and 8 side cut... But I dont know if this board has preaty the same shape ?
Rasman is a little too wide too for size 9's. I rode it. Review is coming but its a softer less tapered version of the Golden Orca. These boards are mid-wides made for 10 plus so this isn't an ideal option. You will have to force it and ride a wider board for your boot size if you want one of these boards. I think I'm missing a lot of info here to help you properly. Hit me up here if you want real advice. thegoodride.com/snowboard-binding-and-boot-advice/
The only thing stopping me from buying this board is that I hear it’s more chatter on hardpack or groomers than the regular orca. I don’t think I want to pay more for a harsher ride when in the north east I don’t get the best POW conditions. Does anyone have a feedback on this?
@@TDenaPhanthis is a little late, but the 150 should be more than enough. I’m 5’9” 150 with 11 1/2 boots & I ride both the 150 & 153. 153 handles speed & deep powder better for sure, but both are fun!

Trying to decide between the Orca, Golden Orca and Arbor Satori. I am 5'9, 150 lbs and size 11. Would the 150 Orca work for size 11 boots? I am thinking I'd go for the 150 orca, 153 golden orca or the 151 or 148 Satori. I'd love to hear your thoughts on my take on this
All three are fun rides in different ways. The Satori will take some getting used to on Groomers. The lifted contact points really makes it different and it is also the most centered on board. (review is coming). The Golden Orca is a little more set back and the Orca even more. It really depends on how you like to ride and what you have now. For sizing you can pull off the 150 with 11's. The 153 would be better for 11's but the 150 better for your weight. I like your plan with the Golden Orca and Satori 151. All three are very forgiving. Does the C2 camber profile ride the same or similar as the Flying V camber profile?
Pretty similar but I prefer the C2 over Flying V. Especially the Magnetraction that comes with C2.
Whats the side edge factory bevel? 89 or 90? Need to sharpen edges.
Not sure. Best to ask Mervin (Lib & Gnu) that. Sorry.
