  • Hey guys I wanted to show you how to quickly change the CCV filter on a 6.7 Cummins diesel! this is something extremely important to remember to change. The internal pressures can wreak havoc on your seals, I recommend to change the CCV every 40k to be safe.

    When you vent the crankcase into the atmosphere you need to take all the filter media out and have just the filter housing in there. On problem is the filter cloggs prematurely because the turbo does put a vacuum on the filter like one guy mentioned here. When that filter is all clogged up the pressure has to go somewhere and usually results in pushing out the weakest seal/gasket. Just some tips I have learned.

    From my understanding the turbocharger provides vacuum along with the filter to help vent crank case pressure

    Nice truck. Good quality video. I couldn't stop laughing when your phone rang and you got frustrated because the same thing happens to me, usually when I have oily gloves on!

      Thanks brother, that's usually how it goes for me as well. I edited out the other 3 times it went off lol!

      @@BuyFixFlipwill a clogged ccv trip the check engine light? Mine light is on. I unscrewed my cap it popped up then settled down did a slight moving I think from vibration of the engine running. But when it popped I did see a puff of vapor and you could smell a wif of diesel exhaust. 78,000 miles I was thinking it might be the filter. When I had 36,000 on it the light went on then I got a message service engine soon on the display. Immediately went to dealer and the code was positive crankcase pressure so I got the filter and replaced it then.
      Now I only got a check engine light. I'm thinking the filter is clogged again on my 2017 6.7. I'm just a little concerned because I've been so busy the last six weeks I've been driving it. I'm disabled and can't afford to pay to have this done. This was my dream truck my last vehicle I would buy. I got tears running because I'm fearing what I may have caused because I'm literally just making it month to month I can't afford catastrophic failures. May I have your opinion please if it could just be the filter. F now I'm worried dam it.

    just replaced mines today, once they clogged up it'll be all kinds of shxt that the engine does i.e. high idling, dieing out at stop sign or stop light, low performance, a puff of blue smoke & etc .. once my truck shot out a puff of blue smoke I knew it was the blow-by management ( ccv filter) that was clogged, changed it and engine runs new again.

    I replaced mine last Weeknd , I thought it was harder to do. My mechanic was backed up for a week. So I decided to change it myself

    So “CCV” filter can be removed “from what I’ve heard”… and like all cars prior to BS treehugger things it can vent naturally with the same “drip” line.

      Exactly my 12 valve cummins just has a drip line that's it. Same with the egr all stuff to screw them up.

    Why did you rule out piston rings or turbo sealss? I'm aboot to buy one and Im a little scared since ot has the dancing cap. It has 320K miles 2019

    • @BuyFixFlip
      @BuyFixFlip  5 месяцев назад +1

      Dancing cap is usually piston rings. When it's the CCV it will have a rush of air right when it's open and then settle down a bit, in a cummins visible blow by is usually present when the cap is dancing from rings.

    Would a clogged filter cause the truck to haze and smoke whitish when revved?

      Sounds to me like injectors.

    Leave the system in place and change out your crankcase filter about every 40k. Simple
    As that.

    Ok so how long can a 6.7 run with lots of blowby?

    • @BuyFixFlip
      @BuyFixFlip  2 года назад

      If you have real blow by after you changed your crank filter it's a bigger issue. I know just from the crank filter not being changed in a while they can push out the rear main seal which costs about 1000 to replace atleast.

      @@BuyFixFlip damn !! It’s a risk cause there’s a guy that’s selling me a 2019 6.7 and he said they told him at the shot it need it a new engine or injectors but the truck is brand new and has about 230k miles. I think the shop is just trying to make money out of this guy

    • @BuyFixFlip
      @BuyFixFlip  2 года назад

      @@victordelarosa589 I would definitely look it over, it's worth spending the 70 bucks to see if the blow by goes away. I've even seen it where the crank filter tube that goes to the intake is clogged and won't let the engine breathe. Visual blow by (steam/ vapor) means less to me than actual pressure. If that oil cap it flying off of there with a fresh CCV filter then its days are numbered. Although that could still be another 200k!

      @@victordelarosa589 I'd buy it if you can get the price right! These Cummins engines can be re-ringed with the engine in frame over a weekend. Worst case scenario is it needs a top end refresh. Remove the head, loosen motor mounts and elevate engine with a jack in order to remove the oil pan and then get to work. You can remove the pistons with rods, run a brush hone and install with new rings and even install new rod bearings while you're at it. Lot's of videos out there showing this.Not the easiest thing but definitely not the hardest either. Cummins engines rule!

      This truck was purchased from a pipeline Welder, the video was taken the next day, the inside was pretty rough! You can only see maybe 10% of how dirty that truck actually was!
