    I had this lens and I think it's a very good value. Try stopping it down to f11 when fully zoomed in to 210mm. It will improve the sharpness.

    Great vid as always, Kyle. I'd been looking at this lens recently and it's amazing how many popular reviewers don't show a comparison of the same shot at 55mm vs 210mm, i.e. showing how much the lens actually zooms in.

    It's a damn good lens. Sharp as heck and fast focusing for the price. Only downsides is the slow aperture and tendency to form permanent dust spots on the inside. I have it as well and if you have a tracker it's a very good lens for entry level widefield astrophotography. I'm actually impressed I can autofocus even in astropotography moreover on Pleiades that isn't that bright(compared to city sky atleast). I'd recommend getting this lens if you can be delicate and gentle with this lens.

    I got one for $100. Open box. Never used. Crazy. I actually love it. I think it's WAY underrated. I am using it a lot on a documentary I'm currently working on, and it's working so well for me. On the a6400, even when I crank up the ISO, it produces great shots in low light. But for daytime stuff, yeah... it's awesome. I feel like it has great character. Doesn't feel like a compromise at all when I use it. Thanks for the awesome review.

    This was the first lens I purchased for my A6000 back in June this year. I have to say I was underwhelmed. It isn't a very sharp lens, and obviously the further out you zoom, the more the quality suffers (which I know is true for all zoom lens). However, for a zoom lens, it is cheap. It has a far reach and you can have a lot of fun with it. I have managed to get some pretty acceptable shots of birds in flight and I managed to get a pretty decent shot of the moon, although it needed a lot of editing in post production e.g. crop and light editing. If you're on a budget and you would like a zoom lens, this is the one to go for.

    • @Energine1
      @Energine1 3 года назад +2

      Dean Faccini This was my EXACT experience with this lens on a6400... for me it was a stepping stone.. a bit of a tease really as it always ALMOST got what I wanted... That said, what it was really good at focusing was my desire for a great telephoto lens as I wasn't sure at first but became completely addicted to :)

    I`m an enthusiast, nothing more and bought this lens new along with the A6000 a year ago and use it for landscapes mainly .I`ve been pleased with the image quality along the focal length .I have found that with the OSS I can get sharp images in many situations without needing to use a tripod .For me F8 to F11 is the sweet spot .Along with the in camera filters and settings I`ve tried ,this lens can produce images I am pleased with that rely on very little basic (Windows Photos ) editing.

    Got my a6000 a couple of years ago on Boxing Day with the kit lens. But I didn't use it much until covid started and there's not much to do after work. I always enjoy watching sunrise, sunset and moonrise... I was like why not get a telescope lens and start to shoot the sun and moon. I searched online and found this lens. Purchased a used one and I just LOVE it. Not only because it does the job for sun/moon photography at 210. I also love it at 55 (I ended up using 55 more...lol...) for portraits, landscape and random stuff. It's hard to fit everything in the frame sometimes but that's also what inspired me to be creative to see what CAN fit in the frame. The imagine quality is great for the price. It was this lens got me hooked on photography! Now I'm ready to upgrade my kit lens, deciding between 35 1.8 and 16-55 2.8.... I need a fast lens for the wide end. lol

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  3 года назад

I was so surprised at how well the shots I took with it were and how versatile combined with the 16-50 kit lens made this package. Wouldn't the kit lens be good for portrait as It can go up to 3.5 aperture while this only 4.5?, sry im to new to the world of photography

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  Год назад

      The kit lens can only go to 3.5 at 16mm. When you’re shooting portraits, 16mm is wide, and it also gives people’s faces rounded shape. As you go to further focal lengths the shape of people’s faces distort less. That’s why 85mm full frame, or 50mm for the a6000 series is considered “portrait” focal length. 👍🏻

    I have this lens when bought a6000 package 7 years ago. Only used it for twice. Recently try to use it again but find it has slow focus problem when put on a6100. the lens motor seems not fast enough to keep on the a6100 focus speed for the moving object (bird in the air) therefore all my shots were out of focus. Plan to sell this lens and maybe think about the new 70-350mm after couple years.

      55-210 is far too short if you want to be able to get close to your subjects and its focus is too slow.
      70-350m on the other hand is perfect as you will be able to get close to the players, but to record video
      with this lens I would not recommend.
      Because it will get shaky very quickly, if you intend to hold the camera for a long period.

    I just scored a mint a6000 and want this lens for wildlife photography while hiking... In the last month I've had excellent opportunities to photograph a great horned owl, GBH, and Bald Eagle all in sunset light, and by the time i dug out my phone with the 3x optical zoom, my images were poop... In particular the owl shot because he was on the top of pine tree's doubled over top stem, and it was dark enough its eyes were glowing in the sunset... If I only had a real camera for it.... Ty for the infoz on the lens.

    My wife and I are complete newbies. We want to do Wildlife & family photography. I just bought the Sony A6400 with the 16-50 kit lens a few days ago. I also just ordered tnis 55-210 lense from eBay. It was a new open box deal for $145. Is this a solid Wildlife camera & lense setup? Im also going to buy another camera soon, for my wife. Should I stick with the Sony A6+++ series camera's for wildlife and family photos or go a different route. I was planning on getting another Sony alpha camera, so we could share lenses & stuff. Or should I go another route for her camera, for wildlife and family events? We also are into drone Videography, & have several DJI drones. We are currently studying for our part 107 commercial drone certifications. We wouldn't mind turning our hobby into a small business someday. But besides taking photos & videos with our drones, we have no experience in photography whatsoever.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  5 месяцев назад

      That’s cool you guys do drone stuff! I have an old mavic pro I used to fly from time to time. Just never developed a love for it. The a6100, a6600, a6700 have animal eye AF which can come in handy. The 55-210 is the perfect starter lens, and used is great deal - as you got one used. The biggest reason for wild life to use a6k cameras would be weight / price. You’re camera and lens will be more manageable walking around, and cheaper overall compared to full frame cameras/lenses. My wife and I had a6000’s for a while and loved swapping lenses back and forth. With wild life as you go you may find you just want more and more reach. Experiment with the 55-210 first, then see what you’d want.

    I bought my a6000 with this lens and the 16-50 and that's all I've needed. I still want to get a fast, fixed lenght lens for those low light situations, not that I've lost a shot because of that. So, I absolutely love the 55-200 these are some of the shots I like to use it for:
    Travel, portrait, close-ups. I find it has a very interesting DOF which allows me to focus the attention on my subject, it's wonderful for far objects, either be able to get them, or get a more natural look when shooting from a distance and not being intrusive. Also I have used it for "macro-like" photos, of course I have to stand further but I get very nice pics of small subjects filling the frame. I did also make pictures of a couple of lunar eclipses with this lens.

      you'd have to rebalance if you zoom in and out, probably not the best for a gimbal. If you balance it once, at say 55mm, it can work. The lens will make the camera front heavy.
