whoo hoo! Always excited for a new video - so entertaining! The Fall colours were amazing. Wondered if the hiking reminded you of running the Amazing Race Canada 4?
I've done this before and I can almost guarantee you that they're carrying too much shit they don't need. I can tell by looking at their packs. That dangling sleeping bag bouncing off the back of her legs @ 6:00 ? THAT will get on your last good nerve in no time and it's not stable. In the pack? Shelter(divided in half by weight if you have a partner), sleeping bag, ground mat, Maglight, trail map, compass & protractor, folding shovel, first aid kit w/ a tick remover, small sewing kit, 5 pairs of socks(change them EVERY day!), clothes(2 days plus what you're wearing including at least 1 pair of long pants), sturdy folding knife like a Buck Model#110, Gold Bond foot powder, Gore Tex outerwear, water purifier tube and drops or tablets, freeze dried food/energy bars/powdered drink mix w/ electrolytes, fire starting kit, 1 pot to cook everything in and eat out of plus a tablespoon, toilet paper, strong-as-fuck bug repellent(look for something with DEET in it), 1 roll of duct tape, 1 book to read(buy a new one in town if you're almost finished, boredom sucks), phone charger, 2 ink pens(and a blank journal if you're so inclined) and as much WATER as you can reasonably carry without overloading yourself. THAT'S FUCKING IT! You do NOT cook on the trail(Bye Bye, cute little stove and propane tanks), you hydrate it and eat it cold unless there's a fire pit. Always maintain $100 cash at ATMs, along with a Visa card, drivers license and insurance card. You will buy more trail food and eat hot meals at restaurants in town, when you come to one, as well as buy supplies and do laundry as you go and last but not least, FORGET about wearing running shoes(nothing Nike)! A solid, well made, ankle-high, FULL-GRAIN LEATHER, pair of backpacking boots(yes, there's a difference), preferably made by someone like Vasque, Danner, Zamberlan, Garmont or Lowa. Yes, they will cost you between $250 - $350 but this is a 'must' INVESTMENT for something like the Appalachian Trail. Money well spent, I promise and be sure to break them in WELL BEFORE you start your hike. Blisters hurt, get infected and will ruin your experience for sure.
