I met him and Scott on the trail about 11 miles from the finish...we cheered him on. He had a long day that day and it was about 10 PM if i remember correctly. So he ran several more hours that night to finish. So cool to wintess history first-hand!
Amazing that Karl helped Scott set his record and Scott assisted Karl in breaking that record.
Yes, that is true. You can read abt it in the book North.
Average of 48.6 miles per day. Let that soak in: average. That is almost 2 marathons of distance a day.
Long may you run! Great job, Karl! As a former ultrarunner and holder of the PCT record, I share in your joy at such an accomplishment. You had an amazing crew! Take a look at The Pacific Crest Trail: Its Fastest Hike to see the issues that confront someone who is unsupported on a trail that wasn't well marked. I was back on the AT this year in VA and ME. What a wonderful national resource! Good luck in your future adventures and thanks for sharing this amazing video!
I have 100 K to run this summer. Videos like this help me to keep going
Nearly 2 Marathons a day over that terrain !! A true inspiration. Take a bow !!
Ultra Runners... Didn't know that was a species.
Such an inspiring journey to be made! Thank you for that. I wish you all the best!
This is incredible..just the 100 mile wilderness was so challenging for me.this is inspiring..
Awesome video!
Congrats on 3rd times a charm for SOBO record Karl. Nice to see NOBO AT record holder Scott there to congratulate your accomplishment.
Came here after the david goggins book
So inspiring
My birthday Aug 3..57... i have hiked in Mt, Kathidan.. lol interesting... I have only ran down south rim grand canyon to the river and back up... in the heart of august.... nothing like this...
Awesome
Great job and accomplishment. What's the hiking record for hiking and sleeping on trail?
Im doing it in 2018. I will just be happy to summit Katahdin. Dont care if it takes me 6 months. Your an inspiration. Im going solo. My nearest backup is 46,000 ks away. Can i borrow your dad?? Lol
How did it go?
Wow
Perfeito
At least he didn't run the whole thing and finish 6 seconds behind the time like that guy at Barkley.
This is awesome though
Brandon McDonald 6 seconds didn't matter anyways. Gary went off course and returned from wrong trail.
dose anyone no the track at 25.43 on the netflix documentary????
Scott is a good dude
Awesome achievement!!😎🐓🐓🐓🇬🇧
Wonder if David Goggins could be talked into trying this?
Yes, lets messaged him over and over again about it!
Let's do it
Karl is a whole other level than Goggins
@@JR-rn5sh lol goggins literally can't be broken. Meltzer started losing motivation after just a day. Goggins would never give up and would probably run for a year without giving up
@@goo5976 i beat goggins in every race ive done and so has meltzer. Were at another level than him. Its easy to walk everything
I 'ran' the AT with a support crew! Grandma Gatewood did it with a cloth sack, leather shoes, and no support crew and no 'trail magic' or camera crew.
No van to sleep in every night, no cooking, literally all he carried was water zero extra weight. Supported FKT are just garbage.
What brand of shoes 👠 worn on the trail? How many pairs changed during the trip?
Thanks much!

Thanx @@brianogrady9883
@@paulkuzmenko4411 Most welcome
45 days of your life is not that long. No. Agreed. I am also an ultra runner. However, it takes years of training. Years, years and years.
Long live Stringbean! Stringbean best this record and he did it UNSUPPORTED.
how many trees does one person see on the AT?
Devan Smith a little over about 8 trees
Devan Smith a

Way to take something amazing, spiritual , beautiful and peaceful, and lower into a race where you appreciate nothing.
This isn’t interesting to me. I’m interested in the unsupported record.
West Coast trail is WAY better. More challenging, more beautiful and more rewarding
first
I lost you in the 1st minute when you said you spent 45 days of your life on the AT and and had to "jog" your memory to remember the experience. You failed bro... F-...
He wasn’t there for the trail, he just wanted the glory. A team of 5 people make sure 1 man finishes an established trail for clout and clout alone.
Anybody can do this if you're rich . And got plenty of time to practice exercising running, climbing, etc...
Steve Johnson and willing to swallow the pain.
Lol. This is not watching Netflix on couch eating banana chips. Or watching RUclips and commenting. Lol
This guy is not rich
The attempt did cost over 100K...per jennifer pharr davis book.
But that cash didnt carry his weight, he did.
Oh boy... Little do you know about stuff like this...
