I met him and Scott on the trail about 11 miles from the finish...we cheered him on. He had a long day that day and it was about 10 PM if i remember correctly. So he ran several more hours that night to finish. So cool to wintess history first-hand!

Amazing that Karl helped Scott set his record and Scott assisted Karl in breaking that record.

Average of 48.6 miles per day. Let that soak in: average. That is almost 2 marathons of distance a day.

Long may you run! Great job, Karl! As a former ultrarunner and holder of the PCT record, I share in your joy at such an accomplishment. You had an amazing crew! Take a look at The Pacific Crest Trail: Its Fastest Hike to see the issues that confront someone who is unsupported on a trail that wasn't well marked. I was back on the AT this year in VA and ME. What a wonderful national resource! Good luck in your future adventures and thanks for sharing this amazing video!

I 'ran' the AT with a support crew! Grandma Gatewood did it with a cloth sack, leather shoes, and no support crew and no 'trail magic' or camera crew.
