This might be the only video of this kind that I feel truly captured the totality of a band. I've seen dozens and you got it right. Original riffs, but at the same time, Crowbar sounding
Kirk seems to use drop A a lot more these days. Crazy that you have one of those old Randalls. That is the sound for sure. EMG pickups + Randall=New Orleans Doom tone. Fantastic tones, and I love Crowbar as well. Being from New Orleans, I don't understand why they don't get more recognition as a New Orleans band. They have been around in some form for over 40 years and created a sound that has influenced so many musicians. All hail Crowbar!!! These guys don't get nearly the props that they should in the history of New Orleans music.
I have recently rediscovered Crowbar. I have pretty much always known about them, and have heard a few of their songs in the past ( here and there), but never truly listened to them. I'm more of a huge Death ( the band of course) fan, and lot of bands have taken the back seat per day. I have been on a huge Down kick here lately and that sparked my interest to check Crowbar out again, and COC of course. It looks as if I'm gonna have to set my guitar up and down tune to B. I'm glad I have a Floyd Rose....that will make down tuning easy ( and adjust my neck).....well for me it will be easy.
I have also had the same rediscovery of crowbar.. Mostly bcz i finally got myself a bass, being a guitar player. Bass has been extremely awesome.. My guitar is tuned to B bcz of crowbar
so glad I found this, maybe a half step lower on the strings besides low B, but i’m so glad this got recommended to me, more people gotta know crowbar! and Brokenlevel
I´ve been into Crowbar since the legendary Metal Hammer 1996 vhs tape in Germany, featuring Existence is Punishment. Nice riffs and sound you got there! You would be my first choice to jam with! Greetings from Chile, South America!
Kirk is one the nicest guys on the planet. I've seen them at least 5 times and am proud to be from Louisiana where I can see them on a pretty regular basis. Ive got 2 signed vinyl records and a signed 7 string schecter that I call my "Crowbar" guitar. You definitely nailed the tone. Did you use the Boss Metal Zone pedal as a boost like Kirk does or are you using modeling software?
Right on man! Met him a few times myself, super nice guy. No modeling here, all amp, metalzone(yes, as a clean boost), and cab simulation with Two notes wall of sound.🤘
I just purchased an RG80es head!! Definitely can’t wait to use it. I also have a 1991 RG170 which was the prototype/precusor to the Century170. It’s a decent amp. I can’t wait to boost it with a metal zone.
Cool video. Solid playing. You are actually close to the traditional Kirk setup. I don't know how much I am allowed to say, but he has switched amps a few times over the years although he does tend to return to the old solid state Randalls. In that particular setup, he likes to use old Boss Metal Zones with the gain at minimum and the volume at maximum similar to how a lot of folks use Tube Screamers. When Crowbar plays overseas, he prefers using a Kemper with a setting designed by Vinnie LaBella from Exhorder.
Bad ass dude, saw them a few times back in the esrly 90s and recently in 2022 or 23 in new Orleans literally front row getting blasted. There is none heavier. Do you know anyone to drum cover albums that featured Craig Nunenmacker, whicj was their first two albums with the original lineup? Not much on RUclips.
Hey mate checking out your channel from your insta account, sweet vids! Things I wish I still had, my old Randall g200 and RD100 heads, so much bang for buck!
@@brokenlevelmusic the 200 went because I got the rd100, then I sold that as I went all digital at the time. Love Crowbar, but new to the guitar. I have a PRS Mark Holcomb but considering buying a Gibson SG. Thoughts on an SG to get the heavy New Orleans sound of Crowbar, Eyehategod etc?
@brokenlevelmusic I will be looking at a Gibson SG standard. The humbuckers, if not what I'm after, could de swapped out for the Bill Kelleher (Mastodon) customs.
@@brokenlevelmusic sweet thanks man! What would you put the settings at on the amp? I know the metalzone the level is cranked and the drive is at 0 and the eq at noon but I’m not exactly sure his Randall head settings
Kirk and Sam both used the MT2 as a boost pedal
Drive down, Volume up and everything else at noon. 👍🏾
What about the tone POTS. Setting at zero gets me Celtic Frost
yeah what about the tone paaaawts dude!

Right on Kris! Never much got into Acid Bath but yes Crowbar is the shit🤘

Bad ass. You need to form a Crowbar style band!
I’ve got a lot of material, heavy Crowbar influence at times, its coming🤘
Great vid! It is also worth mentioning how they like to harmonize in 3rds in the natural minor scale. They do that a lot.
Absolutely, too nerdy for me though🤘😝
Sounds great! Crowbar will always be my favorite band.
Amazing vid brother! Crowbar has one of the best guitartones ever:D

It allows you to play appropriately loud because you won’t fall over.
