This video seems so much simpler than what my Graphic Design instructor tries to get at. I've got much a clearer picture about the basics through this than the countless projects done in class.
I still feel like schools for Graphic Design learners are a HUGE ripoff. On top of being so expensive, you can get professors that either doesn't put their effort in teaching or makes things so complicated. Better off doing research on it instead.
Hi - I've studied and taught typography for years as part of IT programmes. And I have to say that his video is a little gem - you've captured all the basics of the subject, and more, in a nutshell with very engaging graphics. Well done - and thank you very much!
This is called motion graphics, find tutorials on that, and practice. This style of motion graphics is very common nowadays, so you'll most likely bump into tutorials on that.
Every element of these videos are so well done! As a designer, this makes me want to share this with the people I work closely with that don't have the designer role, so they can get a better understanding of the work I do, the attention to detail I give, and why it all matters. Great work, and thank you!
yes !! I've been updating layouts for non designers looking to improve their work, however they are all reluctant to change. I would love to share these videos to help explain how a design overhaul can greatly improve their work. One client insisted I stick with the Papyrus font and was not sure why I was so against his love for the font.
i like how she interacts with the viewers and the little encouragements she give out. It actually means a lot! Learning can be fun and UNintimidating if the teacher knows how to openly, swiftly engage the students throughout the lesson! 💓💓
You explained everything I need to know to start in 9 mins why almost every one else keeps blabbering way and wasting your time making it even more difficult to understand. Thanks so much, looking forward to more
I have been aggressively binge-watching your videos just now! I just watched The Basics of Design, Color and Typography and I'm SYKED. You explain the basics and certainly fill up pretty important holes in my knowledge in them and make me more aware of what I've been already doing by intuition. Now I'll know how to approach a problem or intently make a design more interesting when I have no specific idea! I've decided to try blogging and some other projects for which I'll need to up my game in graphic design and illustration. I've just found the perfect starter pack, basics that _expand_ to teach us useful concepts and practical tipps! Thank you!
note for self: -Leading: the space between lines -Tracking: the space between characters -Kerning: the space between specific characters thank you! i learned some new things in a short space of time. very well made video
Ever since becoming a design student, I started to look at things differently... Other people: a McDonald's coupon book. Me: OH WOW that cursive matches that sans serif underneath so well! (I'm pathetic, I know)
I'm an artist, so when people look at a drawing or something, I think, "wow, the shading is great! and that color pallete is on point!" I'm such a nerd -_-
youre not alone. most of the time I always ask "how made this work made attention to people/viewers? why?" on every thing that I see. Curiosity is love =)
This video is just perfect. The graphics, the content, the voice; everything just fits together perfectly. It's 2020 and this is still one of the most relevant videos about typography, great stuff.
I'm currently training as a visual story artist, so I normally utilize lighting, colors, shape language, and perspective to create concepts, designs, and storyboards. I find it so interesting that typography exists as an art form dedicated to texts and lines that utilize color and shape language (lots of overlapping fundamentals) to create an emotional response from people. It's awesome to see how the fundamentals of color and design are used in a completely different way that it makes me feel like a total beginner again! Gotta love art! 😁
Iam a Visual Communication Design student and this is one of my favorites courses . Kerning leading hierarchy is some rules to make a good and perfect visual design of typography, you cant see it much but you can feel it
This video taught me everything I need to know for my InDesign class in terms of typography in less than 7 minutes while it took about 7 hours in class to explain everything. THANK YOU!
I loved this video; it was clean, easy to comprehend and covered the vital points within minutes. I especially enjoyed the motion illustrations; they invited me to understand the concepts without insulting my intelligent. You guys even chose the perfect voice overlay she projected a friendly tone….thanks great job!!
We're so glad you enjoyed it! We've also just published the next video in the series, which focused on Color: ruclips.net/video/_2LLXnUdUIc/видео.html. We hope you enjoy this one as well!
LOVE your illustrative thoughtfulness, by giving intuitive examples of everything you try to convey, it's effortless for us viewer to take in and yield the treasures inside the Art Piece. Thanks
I've seen two videos so far, colour theory and this and loving them so far. It's not only aesthetic but the information is clear and easy to understand (the visuals really help!) I'm not a designer but would like to learn the basics and these videos seem like a great place to get started I was trying to find books to look at next but I haven't found one with all these different topics (they're specifically only typography, or only layout etc.) and with good aesthetics too
Hello, I just wanted to say that you have a very soothing and pleasant way to speak and I love your videos! I just found it a few minutes ago and subscribed right after watching the first one about color studies! I never knew graphic design could be so interesting if it weren't for your videos and I feel like I could enjoy my three years of graphic design at college thanks to you!
What is this sorcery!! As interesting as some videos get, I often phase out sometimes when it's not engaging enough but I without even realizing it, stayed engaged the whole video. So informative, but not overwhelming! I wish my teachers back in school explained things like this.
Typography is something that comes natural to me. I love fonts. Even tho I probably won't be majoring in graphic design anymore. I plan to putting type into my artwork.
God, I wish I have seen your videos earlier, this could have helped me last year. You taught this only in 6 minutes while my Teacher taught us last minute.
Excellent video, funny how I walk around looking at signs and try to guess what font they used now, thanks to this video, I've learned about Kerning. Thanks! Keep up the good work.
What a great clip!!! I am an animator and illustrator, and sometimes do graphic design work but I am not as confident when doing so, but after watching this clip, I feel I can do better! So thank you for sharing!!!
Love it.. simple, neat and reference that I saved. Small suggestion if may I.. to do a PDF version of this content,. And that really be a worth to spread .. thank you dear
You are welcome to spread the word this way! We also have a text-based version of the video, which you can access here: www.gcflearnfree.org/beginning-graphic-design/typography/1/. Thanks for sharing us!
These videos are fantastic! The editing, the graphic design everything! I'm an industrial design student but I need to know graphic design for layouts in portfolios. This channel is so helpful
Bravo. Again, excellent knowledge. The title does read - Beginning Graphic Design: Typography. So to me, it is a very good video with great flow, good Beginning information and appealing in its design, everything is in there. Sad that there are dislikes heh but really, good work. Please make more, keep at it. Thanks for sharing.
I'm taking this class in fall 2022 so seeing the comments I'm now will be following and gain as much info as possible so I'm not lost and fail my class it's 16 weeks instead of 8 I heard this class is tough so I'm going to take advantage and follow
I was studying graphic communication in high school and I loved it but I decided to change and I took a to take a complete different major in college. I just found out about all these videos, that reminds me of what I learned in high school and that makes me miss aha Anyway, really great series of videos, good job !

We're so glad to hear you've enjoyed the video!
This was like a college education in 6 minutes.
and easily explained and not drawn out over a boring professor who is also worn and burnt out
I think the amount of knowledge that college education provides is even less than in this video.
Agree
Micah Buzan istg😂
I'm actually watching this in college right now.
At this point, forget Typography! Tell me how to edit videos so fluidly like that!
yesss
This is called motion graphics, find tutorials on that, and practice. This style of motion graphics is very common nowadays, so you'll most likely bump into tutorials on that.

I know, right? So much goodness in the vid.
so well written! When the font goes bad, Goldilocks gets frazzled and the bear pops up behind her bed. This is golden teaching! ha!
Hey! This is a comprehensive video on typography - yet I don't feel bored at any time during the vdo. Great work!

I love how you combine visual audio and content congruity. What you day matches perfectly what is shown. Amazing!!
Lol, I sometimes feel really sorry for comic sans. 😂
Same, I even used to love it in the past :(
Watch vsauces video
Comic Sans = for designers that live on the edge ;)
Comic Sans = for designers that are not
Haha me too! Curls and Papyrus is horrible too 😂
i like how she interacts with the viewers and the little encouragements she give out. It actually means a lot! Learning can be fun and UNintimidating if the teacher knows how to openly, swiftly engage the students throughout the lesson! 💓💓
