This isn't just a good looking game, the movement and navigation, the exploration feels much better than typical ubisoft open world games and you feel much more involved while playing. I just don't understand why people hate it so much...
I think people went into it with 1. I don’t like Ubisoft and 2. I don’t like Avatar. Which is fine, but for people who just want to play a good game, Avatar is really special.

@PhotoModeReviews I have this weird relationship with Avatar where I tend to really dig it when I choose to consume it, but the sequel/Marvel mania kind of made me instinctually just ignore it after the hype of the first film dropped off. So I had no interest or expectation on this game until I saw the initial reviews (post launch). And all of a sudden I decided to give it a shot and am loving it. I think the meta behavior for internet commentary is to just dunk on stuff, and Ubi is pretty easy to target. To the point where I saw one review that was titled to the effect that the game is meh/mid, yet the commentators sound like they're having a blast with it.
You wanna play a much better game with all this mechanics improved ? Play far cry 4, this avatar game is utter trash i watched enough trustworthy reviews and played enough games on my own, bunch of fools wasting full price on this garbage
When I first stepped out into Pandora I just….I cried. Like a total undoing moment that’s kinda rare for me when it comes to media…especially just walking out into a Forrest. The emotions that arose within me when I walked out that tunnel and saw this world that I’ve been DREAMING of were so powerful. I’ve been wanting to explore Pandora since I was just a kid, and now I get to. And it IS Pandora. It’s not some generic reskin or whatever of some regular Forrest, it FEELS like Pandora specifically and tbh that’s the biggest thing I was worried about. As someone who doesn’t game often(been like 3 years and i still never played much) I wasn’t too worried about other stuff. I would’ve been happy just running around with a bow. I’m glad the game is as enjoyable as it out outside of that aspect too.
Exactly this!! For me it was when I first rode the Ikran, I actually felt teary eyed. Pandora has always been a dream to be inside of and this game nails it. So glad you're liking it!!
Only downside is that the story isn’t hooking the player I forgot the majority of the characters or know them vaguely like I think etuwa is the daughter of the Chef at the home three but I’m not sure. You know what I mean ?
I agree with you 100% , I have spent way more time gazing at my surroundings than actually trying to pass the game, every new area I am mesmerized , anyone who is a fan of open world games I feel would appreciate this game, whether they are an Avatar fan or not but if you are then this experience is like no other. The lead up to bonding with my Ikran was so special , I don’t remember the last game that made me feel that moved and emotional, the way this one did!
Me too last time I played I passed like 50 minutes getting to a point on the map and I was getting fruit hunting and doing just that and I was enjoying it, it wasn’t boring I was just navigating trew the jungle for 50 minute
My favorite quote is “Happiness is simple” in the beginning of Avatar 2. That whole introduction really makes you feel like they've been living in peace and harmony for years before the second wave of people came. That whole sequence reminds me of the Hakuna Matata sequence in Lion King except it's in the beginning of the movie, this long period of peace and not in the middle. It really made the action packed scenes more impactful!
The one negative with the ikran is it can take you away from continuing to immerse in the forest A player may jump on ikran to save time but then make it a habit and come to completely ignore the ground traversal. So im only calling my ride when ive come to face a cliff or waterfall without an obvious way up
Same! I really like being right on the ground floor and really only do Ikran travel for super far distance. It's kind of my immersive version of fast travel.
I just flew my ikran everywhere through the foliage, it’s actually pretty open to fly around in rather than over. I also learned animals can knock you off your ikran doing that lol, the animation is pretty silly.
All the people saying its a farcry ripoff are the ones that were too broke to buy the game. Ive played 3 of the farcry games and this is far from a reskin. Im 60 hours in doing all side missions and taking my time and im still not tired of it. Are their outposts? Yes. But theres so much more side quests and things to do the outposts are only a small part of the game. 9/10 game imo. Also ive seen the movies and was never too into them and still highly enjoyed this game
100000% this. I honestly wouldn’t even have minded a Far Cry rip off, but this is way beyond that. The game is much more intentional, less action movie, and a bit more slow paced and methodical really sets it apart. I’m in love!
When I was climbing the floating mountains to get my Ikran, I was getting emotional, when I took that plunge and my first flight, I cried. I'm 34 years old. I saw the first Avatar in theaters 36 times, always 3D, because I knew something like this wouldn't happen again, BOY WAS I WRONG, WAY OF WATER BAYBEE!
The co-op with my wife is a total blast! We loved the movies and to be able to explore Pandora together is amazing. Also, as a game dev, I find myself not trying to overthink this one or find flaws in the gameplay. I just to immerse myself and enjoy it for what it is. Great video, love the positivity.
Its so satisfying to see the thunderstorm rolling in, and when it hits you just fly up thru the thunder clouds and theres beutiful clear skies, and then you look down and can see the thunder and Lightning from above. Amazing just amazing. I have never felt more in the game than in this game.
It’s a shame people will link this game with Ubisoft, since it is a Massive one. It is excellent, underrated, a graphical wonder and just enjoyable to play. I actually love collecting and do “fetch quests” unlike other games, because of sound design and graphics.
You touch on something I never mentioned-- the sound design and simple pleasure of walking through the woods is really something else. I hardly fast travel because of how much I like going from point A to B.
i was worried about ubisoft even being involved with avatar but honestly massive entertainment really put their heart and soul into the world of this game and it just feels so alive. Avatar deserved a really good game adaptation and as of right now i think it got one. This is one of the games where i actually dont just speed through main quests and finish the game. i have 21 hours and have only just moved from kinglor forest. But when you first jump onto the ikran is where it really hit me... the music queue is just perfect.

Love your review. This game has left me speechless! They knocked it out of park, in a way I wasn’t expecting, especially with all the hand wringing, and comments about farcry and Ubisoft. I was going to be happy just walking and flying around Pandora, instead we got a technological tour-de-force, a truly next-gen experience. Everything in this game just works flawlessly, transversal, combat, stealth, resource gathering, progression. Everything Is drop-dead gorgeous, the world, the characters, the vistas, the creatures, and like you mention, the music. I feel like I am truly there, everything reacts to you, even the water given different resistance in different places. When near a waterfall you get pulled hard! Those who have given this game a negative or lukewarm reception probably have an agenda, are not fans of this genre of games or simply don’t like the avatar world, probably for dumb political reasons. For me this is a game of the ages and will go right next to horizon zero dawn as best games of all time. Ok, back to crushing the little sky people with my big blue foot 😂

Yeahhhh I really feel like a lot of “I don’t like Ubisoft” bias went into this game. I can almost guarantee if another studio was behind this it would’ve been getting 8-10s. The funny thing is Ubisoft practically invented the open world genre that so many games (Witcher, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, Cyberpunk) just copy anyway lol.

I went into one guys video who was s**ing on the game and turned all the comments against him, a lot of people do love the game. I'm going to get another copy for my gf at xmas so we can play co op together.
The first time to I managed to fly above the clouds, breaking into the sunlight with more beautiful sweeps of clouds and sunlight…I was breathless. EDIT: Also, I love your interpretation and it’s the idea that the way the designers designed layouts and details to guide the players along (ex. Lighting, plant placements, etc.) being canonically Eywa guiding the player along is SO COOL.

Lifelong avatar fan. Favorite movie of all time(first one).. been waiting on a game like this ever since I played the Wii version of avatar and seeing the extremely detailed world of pandora was a dream come true. My last stuffed animal left standing is even a thanator 😭.. my only complaint with the game is that I wish there was a more advanced way of attacking with the Ikran as I could swear there was more combat interaction using the ikran in the Wii version

They actually already have two more stories for the game that will released next year, theres no information about location and plot for those as of right now but it is confirmed.
@@paint_0f_heart554 That's not actually accurate, it's currently confirmed that in AFOP: Secrets of the Spires expansion that we'll be getting a new large area like the upper plains, clouded forest and the kinglor forest. There is even concept art of it, we can expect it to be a very open area like the upper plains but with foliage more similar to that of the clouded forest, so a lot of orange, red and purple-ish colours, but without the trees. Secrets of the spires is the last announced expansion to release but also the only one that has a confirmed new area. Frontiers of Pandora has been in development for over 7 years and has also been made to be able to keep up with graphical standards for the next few years, for example there's a hidden graphics setting that takes it even further. I believe that they aren't going to make a sequel but rather release game sized expansions that brings hundreds of hours worth of content to the game. I believe this game was designed to grow with the franchise.
Finally a positive review! Ive been an avatar fan since i saw the movie when i was a teenager. And i heard rumors of a open world game, i finally saw the trailer last spring and was so excited. But when it launched everyone i saw said its ubisoft trash, corporate garbage. That its mid at best. I said screw it and downloaded it 3 days ago. And holy molly this game is great! The visuals, music, attention to detail. I feel like im in pandora. I lose hours of time in this world. Its the experience ive been longing for. I love it and cant wait to see the endgame. So happy i found someone who gets it and is not bashing this game.
Best looking game I’ve ever seen it’s incredible I love that they put in a in-game photo mode because I’ve never taken so many pictures in a game that I later use as wallpapers the whole game is so cinematic

My biggest issue with avatar is definitely dialogue especially the THAT one chick. Sounds like that one fake ass friend girl that's too excited for everything and comes off inauthentic. And I kinda hate how our character has perfect English while our brothers and sisters still have an accent.
I think there is an overall unhealthy relationship between hype and game releases - and it comes from both gamers and marketing promises. When you set expectations you tend to be disappointed. I understood from the beginning this game wouldn't be the next biggest thing in videogames, but even with the flaws I have immensely enjoyed it. Just enjoy what it offers instead of looking for what is lacking and you will be surprised :)
Yeahhh Cyberpunk was my wakeup call that I can no longer over hype a game myself lol. I literally thought it was impossible for that game to be bad on launch.
I bought the game on release and haven’t been able to play it yet because of my job. I drive trucks.. very much looking forward to gettting home for the holidays and grinding through this world.. great video and perspective
If you’re OTR just bring your system in the truck with you man I always have my laptop or PS5 with me and when you inevitably get hours of downtime that’s game time
This game is really special if you play with no hud, turn off markers and use the text based quest mode. It has the best exploration and environment design of any game I've played in a long time. A lot of the people bombing it are just zipping from point A-B via markers designed to make the game accessible to children. Its a whole different expereince when you actually have to follow paths and use logic to navigate around such a ridiculously dense world. *playing with high damage dealt and recieved also feels awesome. They definitely nailed the feeling of fighting a guerilla war against a technologically superior species.
I think we are playing the exact same way!! I have limited hud, full on exploration mode, not using fast travel often, and really relying on context and world clues. I also have the damage set that way!

If you like games with cringe moments, no original quests, unsatisfying action, poor manichaean writing and a boring useless perk tree, then I guess its fine... I mean yeah the graphics are good, the world looks like Pandorra but honestly that's it and it's the bare minimum. Even the world doesn't feel that alive, it's just different that what we are used to see. To everyone, I get you all seem to enjoy the game but it doesn't make it good, I enjoy eating fast food every once in a while but it doesn't mean it's good food. Anyway, the game was very mid and after those 20 hours of gameplay I'll just forget it. (70€ for 20 hours of boring gameplay really hurt but it became a standard in modern gaming so I'll just shut up and die). Glad you enjoyed the game, ciao.
I don't think this game is a simple cash-grab to capitalize on a popular movie franchise (like one could argue Avengers is). There are areas where I can see a lot of effort has gone into the game. Music is great. Visuals is great. Movement and combat is fun. There is one major area that I find lacking and that is cohesion for the story. The game has several moments where we meet a new character/concept/area and there just isn't a cohesive progression from us not knowing who or what this is to knowing who or what we are dealing with. I.e. characters get introduced and we are just expected to know what their role in Na'vi society is. Our character seems to know (which doesn't make sense) but we don't necessarily know. So there's this disconnect where it almost feels like we as a player are being left out of the conversation. For example, what is a Tsa'hik? In the Aranahe clan, we are told at one point that the Tsa'hik is waiting for us at the top of the tree. Then we get there only to find out it's Etuwa. And it just instantly goes into the quest she gives. It should properly introduce us to Etuwa. Who she is, what she does and how she fits in. The game just expects us to know who these characters are and how they fit in. Reading the codex should be required for simply being able to follow the story. Surprisingly, the game doesn't actually feel like Farcry with blue people! Even though that's essentially what it is 😂 This feels different in a good way. I have some other gripes with it but this comment is long enough already. Overall, I enjoyed the game and look forward to expansions!
What I find hilarious is every time a Ubisoft game comes out I know it is going to be bad. But I knew this would go well because Ubisoft is bad at their own IPs but has a history of releasing kick ass licensed games. It is weird it is like between licensed IPs the good devs go into hibernation and then when Ubisoft get a license like this the good devs wake up and the gloves come off. I my main critique is they made a stellar OST but they don't use it enough in the open world outside of missions. So I play with all the avatar albums popping off in the background. First 5 minutes in-game I was like - yep they smashed it "lets boogie". When I was face to face with the mining laser at level 4 is was like "lets get it done".
I kinda lost faith in the "internet gamers", people calling this a bad game while purchasing and playing the day before....I know its not same target audience but, I can't help. lol
The game has some beautiful areas, but tbh, that's also where my agreements stop. I genuinely just think it lacks too much for a modern open world game. Most activities are boring and the enemy variety is almost non-existent

I like the game and im glad it exists. My biggest Negative is that there are no NPC open world battles - Its just yourself fighting in the open world . I wish it could have copied the 2009 Avatar game with NPC faction battles between RDA and Na'vi occuring on the map - Maybe even convoys from factories that you could ambush as they travel to different factories. Also NPC RDA Workers in Bulldozers in sections of the maps would have been great. If they Copied Far Cry Primal NPC paths and Faction battles this would be one of my favourite games ever
Yeah I would like to see more of that as well. Maybe in future DLC? I know the clans you meet in the main game are pretty averse to fighting except for a few, but it would be cool to see more of that in the future.
Music is just so good, I personally loved it. You can't beat climbing on the Floating Mountains to finally get your Ikran and then when the song drops once you fly. Incredible.
Ngl I even teared up a little from being so overwhelmed with sheer joy and excitement while doing the First Flight quest. I had the biggest grin on my mug the whole time. Wonderfully and masterfully crafted sequence. And same, as a huge OST buff I immediately said to myself that I'm gonna listen the shit out of this soundtrack on my stereo system it is that good (would buy it on vinyl the second it was announced)
It's far from perfect, but it's a pleasant surprise. I dont really care for any characters or the story because ubisoft throws to many characters at me from every angle. I think they need to fix the cutscene transitions in the next game. It completely takes you out of it with the fade to black screens. Id also like them to get better at integrating ai into the gameplay and story together. People just pop in for a cutscene then dissappear again. The world and sound design is one of the best there is. The movement is addictingly fun and its a very good 8/10 game.😊

First time really playing an Ubisoft game; and beside Skyrim and San Andreas WAY back in the day, I've never sunk a lot of time into any open-world game. But I'm hooked! I will admit, some of the encounters are a little "samey." However, I've come to accept the fact that this is more of a chill and vibe type of game than, for example, a super action-oriented one. And honestly, I'm fine with that. It's nice to just chill and immerse yourself in such a beautiful and captivating world. I'm taking my time with it. Excellent video BTW. 6:03 totally got me, lol. You deserve a lot more subscribers! :)

Used to games like farcry god of war and horizon. I would say horizon is one if my favourite games and got nothing bad to say about it.. But ehh i played the same amount of time in a week in this game than i have played in horizon in. a .. month. That inclusdes doing multiple new game's plus. iImean this game does not even have ng+ and STILL clocked an insane amount of hours in this game in sutch a short time. And i cant wait to get back on tomorrow. I literally make up any excuse (in game) to keep playing.. like optimising gear or helping others. I have become known as the guide to pandora on the discord at this point. So i could not agree more. Its not all rainbows and sunshine thoh. unlike horizon forbidden west.. i indeed have some drawbacks i can point out for this game. voiceacting is a bit mid to me. Some gameplay is off but other parts totally amazing. And ikran riding could be better as well (thats coming from a guy who played horizon forbidden west and ark survival evolved before) so i could just be spoilt with raising up your own creatures and first person flying riding and fighting with them. used to more interaction. And in horizon the flying mount is about as well done as in this game but it also has a really cool ground baced mount too. But honestly i cant say that i have ever seen sutch a dynamic and unexaustable world like this before. i know evreything there is to see and i have been in evrey corner of this world already. But i still turn evrey corner in awe to its beaty. And i am also not used to raytraced lighting graphics and sound like this. Still going strong in the world of pandora. I have completed evreything there is to do now 100 efficient clearing min maxed all my gear explored evrey corner challenged evrey beast, fight and enemy, turned evrey stone , gathered evrey plant and resourse with all the skill i could muster up. Truely peaked in this game and STILL NOT BORED. Still damn addicted, and still sad when i have to call it a day again. man what a piece of art this world is GOD DAMN.. It only makes me a bit sad that there is (feels like) so little gameplay and content. apart from the filler stuff of course. But the stuff that is there is not bad at all. Compared to most games i played its is verry mutch in depth. there is high quality even thoh it might seem simple on the curface. but trust me. it shure aint. its is truely solid. The weakpoint mechanics alone for example. Its truely horizon level quality. thoh its a lot simpeler, it is well executed. Same goes for stealth and brawling combat. If the game seems too simple, its in my expeience: the player itself , not the game. try something diffrent. For example i got to the point where i stealth clear baces using all the mechanics there are. from sniping to weakspots directional explosives and even using rocket launchers in stealth. Maticelously killing off diffrently tiered enemy's in a desired order. humans turrets amp's 3 simple enemys that have simple veryitys. but no matter how simple they are, thay ask of you to play entirely diffrent. you CAN just long distance kill evreything slowly. or sneak by evreyone. but why not use a bit of evreything evreywhere. I go from shortbow to longbow to melee killing all normal soldiers. Then i switch to luring em in diffrent paths where i then try to find an rpg and kill clusters of amp's that are no longer supported by footsoldiers to call in reinforcements. after that i no longer have an rpg. then i move to making a chain reaction of explosives , briding the gaps using mines if needed, luring em all close to anything colored red and there it all goes. then there is just pusing some buttons and switches left. I do this while sliding crawling sneaking flying climbing or jumping trough the air with a damn rpg bow rifle chotgun with all kinds of ammo types and strategies. But you can also go full on spec ops using the hacking tool on enemy's and turrets if you are not powerful enough. i can keep on talking but.. just experience it. And dont stop trying diffrent things. I'll try to explain the gameplay i trend to love in this game: today i had a guy (coop player i was helping out) looking at me in awe calling me a walking talking exploit. Seeing me break down an enemy bace piece by piece strat by strat and with speed and accuracy. That what this game still allows you to do, OH MAN what did that make me feel good ! My coop partner just lauging at how rediculous it all looked. rokcet jumping killing 3 AMP's in one shot landing, sliding away from a heap of scrap and embers under some pipes and up in the air went evreything behind those too with my remaining rpg ammo. I cant do that in farcry.. not like that.. truely..a game.. of mass and finesse. This has been a bit ehh carried away. Its quite simular to my experience of this game. I just dont notice how mutch i am actually enjoying it, and here we are. Half a damn book later. still speaking about what i think of the game.. Do i like in game store, no... do i like that there is no new game plus, no... do i like simple gameplay no... But i damn sure like solid quality where its needed. Somehow still being refreshing after having played 6 farcry games now. Racking up playtime like no other. And my main story has long since been completed. Trying to find anything to do, any one more objective just to stay and enjoy a little longer. After i was done baceline clearing the map and missions i started playing with others. helping out others and sharing knowlage sills expeiences. I would NOT say this is the best game i ever played.. YET my intrest in it and my absurd playtime just prooves me wrong, so the only thing i can say is: this gameme is amazing and the best open world game out there. god damn this SLAB of text is getting out of hand quick ! but evrey time i just keep typing. this damn comment will surely do your algorythem good my guy XD Thx for being one of the few people to plain admit that this games actual features outweigh its shortcomings by a fat mile. I bought the game upon release and have been enjoying myself immensely. Ubisoft's deep commitment to the world of Avatar is clear. HOWEVER, I have been rather annoyed by the sheer number of bugs, including game-breaking ones. One of them was so bad that I couldn't progress in the storyline until the update was released last week. My game on PS5 has also crashed, which has never happened to me before. I am, admittedly, a selective gamer, so perhaps these things are more common than I realize. That said, I wish they had spent slightly less time on aesthetics and more on making sure the game is actually playable.

I think the meta behavior for internet commentary is to just dunk on stuff, and Ubi is pretty easy to target. To the point where I saw one review that was titled to the effect that the game is meh/mid, yet the commentators sound like they're having a blast with it.
You wanna play a much better game with all this mechanics improved ? Play far cry 4, this avatar game is utter trash i watched enough trustworthy reviews and played enough games on my own, bunch of fools wasting full price on this garbage
When I first stepped out into Pandora I just….I cried. Like a total undoing moment that’s kinda rare for me when it comes to media…especially just walking out into a Forrest. The emotions that arose within me when I walked out that tunnel and saw this world that I’ve been DREAMING of were so powerful. I’ve been wanting to explore Pandora since I was just a kid, and now I get to. And it IS Pandora. It’s not some generic reskin or whatever of some regular Forrest, it FEELS like Pandora specifically and tbh that’s the biggest thing I was worried about. As someone who doesn’t game often(been like 3 years and i still never played much) I wasn’t too worried about other stuff. I would’ve been happy just running around with a bow. I’m glad the game is as enjoyable as it out outside of that aspect too.

I agree with you 100% , I have spent way more time gazing at my surroundings than actually trying to pass the game, every new area I am mesmerized , anyone who is a fan of open world games I feel would appreciate this game, whether they are an Avatar fan or not but if you are then this experience is like no other. The lead up to bonding with my Ikran was so special , I don’t remember the last game that made me feel that moved and emotional, the way this one did!
That entire first flight mission is my all time favorite moment in gaming. Absolutely unparalleled.
Me too last time I played I passed like 50 minutes getting to a point on the map and I was getting fruit hunting and doing just that and I was enjoying it, it wasn’t boring I was just navigating trew the jungle for 50 minute
My favorite quote is “Happiness is simple” in the beginning of Avatar 2. That whole introduction really makes you feel like they've been living in peace and harmony for years before the second wave of people came. That whole sequence reminds me of the Hakuna Matata sequence in Lion King except it's in the beginning of the movie, this long period of peace and not in the middle. It really made the action packed scenes more impactful!
Love that whole scene. They also reprise a lot of the music from the first film which really brings it together.
The one negative with the ikran is it can take you away from continuing to immerse in the forest
A player may jump on ikran to save time but then make it a habit and come to completely ignore the ground traversal.

Same! I really like being right on the ground floor and really only do Ikran travel for super far distance. It's kind of my immersive version of fast travel.
I just flew my ikran everywhere through the foliage, it’s actually pretty open to fly around in rather than over. I also learned animals can knock you off your ikran doing that lol, the animation is pretty silly.
All the people saying its a farcry ripoff are the ones that were too broke to buy the game. Ive played 3 of the farcry games and this is far from a reskin. Im 60 hours in doing all side missions and taking my time and im still not tired of it. Are their outposts? Yes. But theres so much more side quests and things to do the outposts are only a small part of the game. 9/10 game imo. Also ive seen the movies and was never too into them and still highly enjoyed this game
100000% this. I honestly wouldn’t even have minded a Far Cry rip off, but this is way beyond that. The game is much more intentional, less action movie, and a bit more slow paced and methodical really sets it apart. I’m in love!

When I was climbing the floating mountains to get my Ikran, I was getting emotional, when I took that plunge and my first flight, I cried. I'm 34 years old.
I saw the first Avatar in theaters 36 times, always 3D, because I knew something like this wouldn't happen again, BOY WAS I WRONG, WAY OF WATER BAYBEE!

The co-op with my wife is a total blast! We loved the movies and to be able to explore Pandora together is amazing. Also, as a game dev, I find myself not trying to overthink this one or find flaws in the gameplay. I just to immerse myself and enjoy it for what it is. Great video, love the positivity.

Its so satisfying to see the thunderstorm rolling in, and when it hits you just fly up thru the thunder clouds and theres beutiful clear skies, and then you look down and can see the thunder and Lightning from above. Amazing just amazing. I have never felt more in the game than in this game.

It’s a shame people will link this game with Ubisoft, since it is a Massive one. It is excellent, underrated, a graphical wonder and just enjoyable to play. I actually love collecting and do “fetch quests” unlike other games, because of sound design and graphics.
You touch on something I never mentioned-- the sound design and simple pleasure of walking through the woods is really something else. I hardly fast travel because of how much I like going from point A to B.
i was worried about ubisoft even being involved with avatar but honestly massive entertainment really put their heart and soul into the world of this game and it just feels so alive. Avatar deserved a really good game adaptation and as of right now i think it got one. This is one of the games where i actually dont just speed through main quests and finish the game. i have 21 hours and have only just moved from kinglor forest. But when you first jump onto the ikran is where it really hit me... the music queue is just perfect.

Love your review. This game has left me speechless! They knocked it out of park, in a way I wasn’t expecting, especially with all the hand wringing, and comments about farcry and Ubisoft. I was going to be happy just walking and flying around Pandora, instead we got a technological tour-de-force, a truly next-gen experience. Everything in this game just works flawlessly, transversal, combat, stealth, resource gathering, progression. Everything Is drop-dead gorgeous, the world, the characters, the vistas, the creatures, and like you mention, the music. I feel like I am truly there, everything reacts to you, even the water given different resistance in different places. When near a waterfall you get pulled hard!
Those who have given this game a negative or lukewarm reception probably have an agenda, are not fans of this genre of games or simply don’t like the avatar world, probably for dumb political reasons. For me this is a game of the ages and will go right next to horizon zero dawn as best games of all time. Ok, back to crushing the little sky people with my big blue foot 😂

Yeahhhh I really feel like a lot of “I don’t like Ubisoft” bias went into this game. I can almost guarantee if another studio was behind this it would’ve been getting 8-10s.
The funny thing is Ubisoft practically invented the open world genre that so many games (Witcher, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, Cyberpunk) just copy anyway lol.

This game is a cure for those who suffer from depression due to not being able to live on the planet of Pandora.
The first time to I managed to fly above the clouds, breaking into the sunlight with more beautiful sweeps of clouds and sunlight…I was breathless.
EDIT: Also, I love your interpretation and it’s the idea that the way the designers designed layouts and details to guide the players along (ex. Lighting, plant placements, etc.) being canonically Eywa guiding the player along is SO COOL.

Lifelong avatar fan. Favorite movie of all time(first one).. been waiting on a game like this ever since I played the Wii version of avatar and seeing the extremely detailed world of pandora was a dream come true. My last stuffed animal left standing is even a thanator 😭.. my only complaint with the game is that I wish there was a more advanced way of attacking with the Ikran as I could swear there was more combat interaction using the ikran in the Wii version
Yeah I am interested to see if that is expanded. One of the season pass DLCs is all about air combat, so I imagine they add more there.

They actually already have two more stories for the game that will released next year, theres no information about location and plot for those as of right now but it is confirmed.
@@paint_0f_heart554 That's not actually accurate, it's currently confirmed that in AFOP: Secrets of the Spires expansion that we'll be getting a new large area like the upper plains, clouded forest and the kinglor forest. There is even concept art of it, we can expect it to be a very open area like the upper plains but with foliage more similar to that of the clouded forest, so a lot of orange, red and purple-ish colours, but without the trees. Secrets of the spires is the last announced expansion to release but also the only one that has a confirmed new area.
Frontiers of Pandora has been in development for over 7 years and has also been made to be able to keep up with graphical standards for the next few years, for example there's a hidden graphics setting that takes it even further. I believe that they aren't going to make a sequel but rather release game sized expansions that brings hundreds of hours worth of content to the game.
I believe this game was designed to grow with the franchise.
That would be very interesting and I can see it.. AC Valhalla basically had like 100 hours of extra content put into it over the years.

Finally a positive review! Ive been an avatar fan since i saw the movie when i was a teenager. And i heard rumors of a open world game, i finally saw the trailer last spring and was so excited. But when it launched everyone i saw said its ubisoft trash, corporate garbage. That its mid at best. I said screw it and downloaded it 3 days ago. And holy molly this game is great! The visuals, music, attention to detail. I feel like im in pandora. I lose hours of time in this world. Its the experience ive been longing for. I love it and cant wait to see the endgame. So happy i found someone who gets it and is not bashing this game.

My biggest issue with avatar is definitely dialogue especially the THAT one chick. Sounds like that one fake ass friend girl that's too excited for everything and comes off inauthentic. And I kinda hate how our character has perfect English while our brothers and sisters still have an accent.
I think there is an overall unhealthy relationship between hype and game releases - and it comes from both gamers and marketing promises. When you set expectations you tend to be disappointed. I understood from the beginning this game wouldn't be the next biggest thing in videogames, but even with the flaws I have immensely enjoyed it. Just enjoy what it offers instead of looking for what is lacking and you will be surprised :)
Yeahhh Cyberpunk was my wakeup call that I can no longer over hype a game myself lol. I literally thought it was impossible for that game to be bad on launch.

This is my GOTY and this game is better than any other game released in 2023
This game is really special if you play with no hud, turn off markers and use the text based quest mode. It has the best exploration and environment design of any game I've played in a long time.
A lot of the people bombing it are just zipping from point A-B via markers designed to make the game accessible to children. Its a whole different expereince when you actually have to follow paths and use logic to navigate around such a ridiculously dense world.
*playing with high damage dealt and recieved also feels awesome. They definitely nailed the feeling of fighting a guerilla war against a technologically superior species.
I think we are playing the exact same way!! I have limited hud, full on exploration mode, not using fast travel often, and really relying on context and world clues. I also have the damage set that way!

If you like games with cringe moments, no original quests, unsatisfying action, poor manichaean writing and a boring useless perk tree, then I guess its fine... I mean yeah the graphics are good, the world looks like Pandorra but honestly that's it and it's the bare minimum. Even the world doesn't feel that alive, it's just different that what we are used to see. To everyone, I get you all seem to enjoy the game but it doesn't make it good, I enjoy eating fast food every once in a while but it doesn't mean it's good food. Anyway, the game was very mid and after those 20 hours of gameplay I'll just forget it. (70€ for 20 hours of boring gameplay really hurt but it became a standard in modern gaming so I'll just shut up and die). Glad you enjoyed the game, ciao.
I don't think this game is a simple cash-grab to capitalize on a popular movie franchise (like one could argue Avengers is). There are areas where I can see a lot of effort has gone into the game.
Music is great. Visuals is great. Movement and combat is fun.
There is one major area that I find lacking and that is cohesion for the story. The game has several moments where we meet a new character/concept/area and there just isn't a cohesive progression from us not knowing who or what this is to knowing who or what we are dealing with. I.e. characters get introduced and we are just expected to know what their role in Na'vi society is. Our character seems to know (which doesn't make sense) but we don't necessarily know. So there's this disconnect where it almost feels like we as a player are being left out of the conversation.
For example, what is a Tsa'hik? In the Aranahe clan, we are told at one point that the Tsa'hik is waiting for us at the top of the tree. Then we get there only to find out it's Etuwa. And it just instantly goes into the quest she gives. It should properly introduce us to Etuwa. Who she is, what she does and how she fits in. The game just expects us to know who these characters are and how they fit in. Reading the codex should be required for simply being able to follow the story.
Surprisingly, the game doesn't actually feel like Farcry with blue people! Even though that's essentially what it is 😂

What I find hilarious is every time a Ubisoft game comes out I know it is going to be bad. But I knew this would go well because Ubisoft is bad at their own IPs but has a history of releasing kick ass licensed games. It is weird it is like between licensed IPs the good devs go into hibernation and then when Ubisoft get a license like this the good devs wake up and the gloves come off. I my main critique is they made a stellar OST but they don't use it enough in the open world outside of missions. So I play with all the avatar albums popping off in the background. First 5 minutes in-game I was like - yep they smashed it "lets boogie". When I was face to face with the mining laser at level 4 is was like "lets get it done".
I kinda lost faith in the "internet gamers", people calling this a bad game while purchasing and playing the day before....I know its not same target audience but, I can't help. lol
The game has some beautiful areas, but tbh, that's also where my agreements stop. I genuinely just think it lacks too much for a modern open world game. Most activities are boring and the enemy variety is almost non-existent

I like the game and im glad it exists. My biggest Negative is that there are no NPC open world battles - Its just yourself fighting in the open world . I wish it could have copied the 2009 Avatar game with NPC faction battles between RDA and Na'vi occuring on the map - Maybe even convoys from factories that you could ambush as they travel to different factories. Also NPC RDA Workers in Bulldozers in sections of the maps would have been great. If they Copied Far Cry Primal NPC paths and Faction battles this would be one of my favourite games ever
Yeah I would like to see more of that as well. Maybe in future DLC? I know the clans you meet in the main game are pretty averse to fighting except for a few, but it would be cool to see more of that in the future.

I dont really care for any characters or the story because ubisoft throws to many characters at me from every angle.
I think they need to fix the cutscene transitions in the next game. It completely takes you out of it with the fade to black screens.
Id also like them to get better at integrating ai into the gameplay and story together.
People just pop in for a cutscene then dissappear again.
The world and sound design is one of the best there is. The movement is addictingly fun and its a very good 8/10 game.😊

What can I say that hasn't been said already? I absolutely love this game. First time really playing an Ubisoft game; and beside Skyrim and San Andreas WAY back in the day, I've never sunk a lot of time into any open-world game.
But I'm hooked! I will admit, some of the encounters are a little "samey." However, I've come to accept the fact that this is more of a chill and vibe type of game than, for example, a super action-oriented one. And honestly, I'm fine with that. It's nice to just chill and immerse yourself in such a beautiful and captivating world. I'm taking my time with it.

im doing just fine. no need for a giveaway for me. i already got the 130 $ verion on ps5. i ehh have to admit to most of what you said. on the one side it seems a bit mid. but on the other... i already clocked over 180 hours in this game... i cant say the same for farcry 6 and that game also felt veery long but still really good. with this game i dont feel like i played for that long. proving your point. i am totally addicted to this game and dont even notice spending over 100 hours in the game.
Just having a verry good and dense world to explore OH MY GOD LIGHTING MUSIC AND SOUND AHHHHHHHHH !!!!. it just vacuums up my days.. and counting... i dont get tired of the world.. i just dont. taht's a first for me. Used to games like farcry god of war and horizon. I would say horizon is one if my favourite games and got nothing bad to say about it.. But ehh i played the same amount of time in a week in this game than i have played in horizon in. a .. month. That inclusdes doing multiple new game's plus. iImean this game does not even have ng+ and STILL clocked an insane amount of hours in this game in sutch a short time. And i cant wait to get back on tomorrow. I literally make up any excuse (in game) to keep playing.. like optimising gear or helping others. I have become known as the guide to pandora on the discord at this point. So i could not agree more.
Its not all rainbows and sunshine thoh. unlike horizon forbidden west.. i indeed have some drawbacks i can point out for this game. voiceacting is a bit mid to me. Some gameplay is off but other parts totally amazing. And ikran riding could be better as well (thats coming from a guy who played horizon forbidden west and ark survival evolved before)
so i could just be spoilt with raising up your own creatures and first person flying riding and fighting with them. used to more interaction. And in horizon the flying mount is about as well done as in this game but it also has a really cool ground baced mount too.
But honestly i cant say that i have ever seen sutch a dynamic and unexaustable world like this before. i know evreything there is to see and i have been in evrey corner of this world already. But i still turn evrey corner in awe to its beaty. And i am also not used to raytraced lighting graphics and sound like this.
Still going strong in the world of pandora. I have completed evreything there is to do now 100 efficient clearing min maxed all my gear explored evrey corner challenged evrey beast, fight and enemy, turned evrey stone , gathered evrey plant and resourse with all the skill i could muster up. Truely peaked in this game and STILL NOT BORED. Still damn addicted, and still sad when i have to call it a day again. man what a piece of art this world is

It only makes me a bit sad that there is (feels like) so little gameplay and content. apart from the filler stuff of course. But the stuff that is there is not bad at all.
Compared to most games i played its is verry mutch in depth. there is high quality even thoh it might seem simple on the curface. but trust me. it shure aint. its is truely solid. The weakpoint mechanics alone for example. Its truely horizon level quality. thoh its a lot simpeler, it is well executed. Same goes for stealth and brawling combat. If the game seems too simple, its in my expeience: the player itself , not the game. try something diffrent.
For example i got to the point where i stealth clear baces using all the mechanics there are. from sniping to weakspots directional explosives and even using rocket launchers in stealth. Maticelously killing off diffrently tiered enemy's in a desired order. humans turrets amp's 3 simple enemys that have simple veryitys. but no matter how simple they are, thay ask of you to play entirely diffrent. you CAN just long distance kill evreything slowly. or sneak by evreyone. but why not use a bit of evreything evreywhere.
I go from shortbow to longbow to melee killing all normal soldiers. Then i switch to luring em in diffrent paths where i then try to find an rpg and kill clusters of amp's that are no longer supported by footsoldiers to call in reinforcements. after that i no longer have an rpg. then i move to making a chain reaction of explosives , briding the gaps using mines if needed, luring em all close to anything colored red and there it all goes. then there is just pusing some buttons and switches left. I do this while sliding crawling sneaking flying climbing or jumping trough the air with a damn rpg bow rifle chotgun with all kinds of ammo types and strategies. But you can also go full on spec ops using the hacking tool on enemy's and turrets if you are not powerful enough. i can keep on talking but.. just experience it. And dont stop trying diffrent things.
I'll try to explain the gameplay i trend to love in this game:
today i had a guy (coop player i was helping out) looking at me in awe calling me a walking talking exploit. Seeing me break down an enemy bace piece by piece strat by strat and with speed and accuracy. That what this game still allows you to do, OH MAN what did that make me feel good !
My coop partner just lauging at how rediculous it all looked. rokcet jumping killing 3 AMP's in one shot landing, sliding away from a heap of scrap and embers under some pipes and up in the air went evreything behind those too with my remaining rpg ammo. I cant do that in farcry.. not like that.. truely..a game.. of mass and finesse.
This has been a bit ehh carried away.
Its quite simular to my experience of this game. I just dont notice how mutch i am actually enjoying it, and here we are. Half a damn book later. still speaking about what i think of the game.. Do i like in game store, no... do i like that there is no new game plus, no... do i like simple gameplay no...
But i damn sure like solid quality where its needed. Somehow still being refreshing after having played 6 farcry games now. Racking up playtime like no other. And my main story has long since been completed. Trying to find anything to do, any one more objective just to stay and enjoy a little longer. After i was done baceline clearing the map and missions i started playing with others. helping out others and sharing knowlage sills expeiences.
I would NOT say this is the best game i ever played..
YET my intrest in it and my absurd playtime just prooves me wrong, so the only thing i can say is: this gameme is amazing and the best open world game out there.

Thx for being one of the few people to plain admit that this games actual features outweigh its shortcomings by a fat mile. It has both shortgomings and features of course yes but there is only one of the 2 i really notice.
I read the whole thing! Appreciate you thinking so deeply about the game. I feel like we are in a similar boat: is it the best game ever? No. Does it have me totally and completely sucked in? Absolutely. I bet you're excited for the DLCs to come out!
I bought the game upon release and have been enjoying myself immensely. Ubisoft's deep commitment to the world of Avatar is clear. HOWEVER, I have been rather annoyed by the sheer number of bugs, including game-breaking ones. One of them was so bad that I couldn't progress in the storyline until the update was released last week. My game on PS5 has also crashed, which has never happened to me before.
I am, admittedly, a selective gamer, so perhaps these things are more common than I realize. That said, I wish they had spent slightly less time on aesthetics and more on making sure the game is actually playable.
Dang sorry to hear that! I haven't had any crashed or breaks on mine yet. Some texture pop in is the only issue I have noticed.
