AK is gritty and is probably a love letter to Tim Burton’s 1989 darker batman movie, Whereas Suicide Squad is a love letter to “campy & bright“ super hero comics, films etc, Which was a bad decision obviously as the gritty & believable underbelly of Gotham and it’s villains was way more interesting and amazing to behold visually.

5:50 EXACTLY! Metropolis felt like this fairytale disneyworld candyland. Gotham in AK felt like an ACTUAL city that had actual people living in it at some point. Despite being (mostly) empty, it felt so alive. The visual aesthetic and style, the little DC easter eggs and references, the constant thug chatter, the militia patrol... just thinking about it makes me want to replay the game.

Even if I think Arkham Knight is the weakest game in the Arkham quadrilogy, it is leagues ahead of Suicide Squad due to it having a clear focus on a character. Suicide Squad feels all over the place, and we never really see the characters change or grow substantially through the story. Knight at least tries, and that's the main difference in how invested I am in the story. I will disagree on one of your points regarding DC needing to lean more into dark and gritty atmosphere. I'm of the mind that "DC is darker, Marvel is lighter" is a tiring attitude towards both properties. What DC needs to do is just do whatever they want and thinks is appropriate for the characters. Be SINCERE. Don't try to copy Marvel or whatever else. That's why The Batman and Joker worked; they were different not for the sake of being different, but because it felt like the filmmakers had something to tell and the tone directly facilitated that rather than just in spite of Marvel. Shazam and The Suicide Squad works because of that as well; they feel more like bright Marvel movies not to copy them, but just to tell a story that works with a lighter tone. In terms of video games, go back to Asylum and City and just have fantastical concepts without coming up with technical explanations for them. Let the worlds breathe without shackling them to reality. Asylum flourished because its atmosphere perfectly fit from the comics. Spider-Man suffered from this a bit with some of its villains and overall worldbuilding. Hopefully the Wonder Woman game follows this as well. Either way, really good analysis highlighting the visual storytelling between the two! I didn't fully realize just how much the HUD design impacts the world and storytelling until this video. (And thank you for including Origins)

Nothing annoys me more than how hard it is to take good shots. The controls just seem totally nonsensical. Made by someone that has never held a controller in their life. While it's not my ABSOLUTE favourite photo mode, Spider-Man(1, 2, and MM) still has the best controls in all photo modes. A child could learn how to use it. But TLOU2's photo mode just makes me too frustrated to even take the shot after 5 mins of trying to get the lighting right.

The filters remind me of Gotham Knights. Perhaps has something to do with the fact that both games are WB published?

Been playing this game on four different platforms for nine years.

The Arkham Series will forever be timeless because of the relaxing gameplay, thrilling stories, and beautiful atmosphere. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League lacked all of that. That's why I hated it. It's a massive downgrade from the Arkham Series. It's just lazy and soulless. There's no heart put into it. You can tell it's nothing but a cash grab. I miss when studios actually cared about the projects they released.

Arkham Knight had interesting side quests,story and gameplay variety Actual challenges. Suicide squad is a boring grind with an unfinished story on a live service game

Hi man, you did a great job with the video! You got my like and every other support, but for real, nice analysis, for the camera 8:15, I believe it's cuz of course one game is signle player meanwhile the other one has 4 characters and since they're all together, they didn't wanna really leave anyone out of the scenes. Matter of fact, Idk what game that has 4 players has good cinematics tho, what comes to my mind now is Dead Island 1 & Riptide, both games's cinematics are bad AF even tho gameplay is 10/10

Can you do Cyberpunk?

I don't know why but when I was redeeming my rewards I thought it looked like you could put your photos up in the room of requirement. Unfortunately not. Also on Steam Deck one of the fillers is bugged. I get lines going down half the screen.

I'll have to revisit this game in a few years and play with the photo mode, I got the platinum trophy when I played it so I basically left no stone unturned which I think would spoil another playthrough so close to the first one

I admire your passion for photo modes in games, I have grown very fond of this photo mode and its uses. However there are some minor issues. My major problem is that once you choose one of the various filters it starts to appear some sort of spots on the screen which kind of blurr the parts of the picture. For an example if you choose the filter "Gryffindor". Have you managed to find some sort of solution to make those go away?

This was a great first look at the photomode. It looks like it has a lot of features; a good depth of field, seasons and time of day. It's nice to see they've put some thought into it

Too bad they limited the camera range in interior spaces 😔 I guess they were afraid the camera can be stuck somewhere (bad/clunky collisions of walls and assets). I'll definitively try this photomode, I currently waited for a "good" reason to play it and there is it! Aside note, we patched Banishers limitations, it should be better now 😋
